This definitely shouldn't have been its own thread AND I’m a loser who fell out of love with Disney so I’m outta here

Same, but some benefits are available as a result of lax policy.

If a CM asks if you are entitled to a discount then you should honestly answer "no". However, if they ask if you are a DVC member then you can honestly answer "yes" and show them your DVC Member number in the MDE app. Nothing on that screen indicates your status.

It's not for you to guess whether they are making an error or offering some extra Pixie dust. I assume the latter because that's the way TWDC rolls.

I can't remember remember how it's been phrased to us. I'll have to pay attention.

Are resale members allowed to buy DVC merch? Because I don't think I've been asked if I was a member or anything for that. Even for pins that were being kept behind the counter.

May: "I can't believe all you direct buyer suckers! I saved so much money by going resale, that all the so-called "perks" mean absolutely nothing to me. I saved $357,000 on my 150-point VBR contract and couldn't be happier! You can have your discounts and your silly "Blue Card". I get discounts anyway! I saved thousands!"

December: "So just because I'm a resale buyer, I can't attend Moonlight Magic, buy a Sorcerer Pass, or visit the lounge in Disney Springs? Now I have to show my DVC card just to get a discount? And I can't book a room at Riviera or Disneyland Hotel? That's just ridiculous. DVC obviously really doesn't care about me. I pay dues just like everyone else, so why can't I do those things? Don't my dues pay for them too? It's discrimination and Disney is creating a two-tiered membership and I'm tired of being nickel and dimed to death. I'm out of here."
It cracks me up when people say stuff like this. I will just put this here I don't care about the perks but if I ever decide I do care about the perks I'll just buy direct. Bought resale and knew what I was getting into. It's weird that people get pissy about what they don't get when the info is clearly out there.

It's weird man.

I bought resale and I'm quite happy with it. Of course, I did research beforehand to know I wouldn't be getting the "direct benefits" so I'm fine with it.
If we were interested in the newer resorts we would have bought direct. We though love SSR and OKW, we are old and boring and like peace and quiet so resale at SSR made the most sense for us. If I was young with young kids I would buy direct. We've directed friends to buy direct because it makes the most sense for them.

I still think it's funny that we have people on these boards who are on here for like 10+ years and have left thousands of messages with lots of useful contributions and they don't bother to say goodbye. They just vanish into thin air. Then you have this guy who has posted less than 100 comments and hasn't said anything for the past 7 months and then feels the need to announce his departure 😂

The "nickel and dime' comment is always a good declaration of knowledge (or lack thereof). If you own a second home (or primary) the cost of ownership goes up every year- taxes, insurance, maintenance, remodel etc.
In relationship to value, the value of your DVC goes up every year relative to a hotel room, as the cost of dues on a contract increases at a lower dollar amount relative to the comparable hotel room each year. So if visiting Disney on a regular basis is in someone's life plan, then DVC is worth it if you can afford it.

Anyone can buy that merch - it's all money into the coffers.

But the better question is Why would you want to buy that merch.

This is us as well and actually like that the BCV building is tucked away in the back of the property.

That is odd unless something happened to them (i.e. death).

Sometimes the challenge is the reward.
It is not easy to find the holiday DVC pins .
I have found them twice at the Fancy Gift Shop inside the Grand Floridian Lobby . Someplace you normally would not wander into .
I’ll try to remember to post pics when I return home tomorrow .
They are very limited… and very special to collect.

Grand Cal store & Frontierland Pin store by the shooting range both have a number of them.

Buying direct vs resale is definitely a 'buyer beware' sort of thing. In the resale contract we signed a couple of months ago, it stated very clearly that in buying resale, we are NOT eligible for any of the supplemental benefits. AND even if you DO buy direct, Disney makes it very clear that they can take away or change any of those extra benefits at any time.

AND if you really really really don't want to miss out on any of the possible future extra/supplemental direct benefits, then you should buy direct.

Of course, buying direct is more expensive. :-) There's pros and cons to each option.

What amazes me is people buying into DVC whether resale or direct without fully understanding the product. I dont see it as often here but I do on facebook. I cannot spending that kind of money and not doing a ton of research but it happens.

Some of the stuff I've read on FB is truly wild. People that don't understand the product AT ALL. They don't know how far their points will go. Or what their use year means. Or which hotels they can book when. It's crazy. I mean, I purchased after only researching for a month or so but I read a LOT beforehand.

For sure. Of course this isn’t limited to DVC by any means. There’s all sorts of crazy stuff on Facebook.
