Small Room & Sore Eyeballs
Our room was the last one at the end of a very long hallway. We reach our door, Buzz unlocks it and holds it open for the kids while we attempt to get the luggage in. LeeAndra comes running back out yelling, Theres something wrong with our room! Its not all there! Wheres the rest of it???
They were so confused-they couldnt figure out that it was a regular hotel room and not a condo like we usually get. Some of the places we stayed are bigger than Buzz and my first house (prior to having kids). Trey & LeeAndra arent used to this and its amusing to me! LeeAndra keeps asking me how are we going to sleep in only 2 beds? Where are we going to watch t.v.? Wheres the bathroom? Where do we put our clothes?
I calm her down a little and get her oriented to where everything is, explain the sleeping arrangements: Buzz and me in one and her & Trey in the other bed. She promptly changes that. She and I in one bed and Daddy & Trey in the other. Ok, thats fine.
We unpack just enough to change into shorts. I put my contacts in but my right one is so painful I immediately take it out and re-clean it. I put it back in and Yowch! Not any better! I figure the last time I wore them, I must not have cleaned them very well. So I re-clean it about 5 times and its still not any better. I got 6 pairs a year and a half ago and Im down to my 2nd to last pair. I have a severe astigmatism so my contacts are pricey and hard to get.
This is the first time Ive ever had ones you only wear for a month and then throw away. Even though the doctor told me to chuck them after one month, even if Ive only worn them once during that month, I just cant bring myself to do it. I get rid of them when they hurt my eyes. I think its time for these ones. I did bring my last set with me, but the troops are eager to get out and were pretty hungry so I will throw them away and make the switch later.
Were so excited and happily chatting on the way down. My eye is stinging like crazy and my contact feels gritty and gravelly, but I press on. Its hard to give in to the discomfort because we definitely have Disney Fever.
From our previous trips to DLR, I dont remember anything about Downtown Disney except Wetzels Pretzels, which we ate for lunch nearly everyday. I see it and get a warm fuzzy feeling. Im just so happy to be there. We see a neat looking restaurant, called Catal, check the menu to make sure we can all eat the food and ask if they can seat us. They seat us right by an open window with a nice breeze blowing through it. Ahhhh. Buzz orders a beer for himself and a wine for me. This is vacation. We feel it.
We also feel that wind pick up and get stronger. Pretty soon it gets downright chilly so Buzz asks if they could close the window and they do. I notice outside there are cheerleaders everywhere. They must be having some sort of cheerleader meeting, I figure. I saw some with a huge trophy! Pretty neat!
I cant tell you what we ate for lunch because I dont remember. I think I had chicken. We were all so hungry, I think we wouldve eaten anything at that point. But this lunch was good-I remember that! We finished up and I informed Buzz my first priority was to get sunglasses. My Mickey ones broke about a month ago and I needed new ones.
The sun was bright and I was getting a slight headache. So we go to World of Disney and look at sunglasses. LeeAndra picks out a stunning pink pair. Trey grabs a Tinkerbell pair! I grab 2 pairs, try them on, Buzz tells me which ones look better so I chose those and we go check out. He hates shopping.
Trey grabbed ones that were too small for his head so I quickly rush him back to the sunglasses rack and frantically begin trying them on him. The kids ones were all too small for his melon and a line was starting to form behind us now so I yell to Buzz to just forget it-wed get Trey some glasses later. Hed need an adult size and I didnt want to hold up the line trying glasses on him. Plus, I could tell Buzz was impatient with me.
We head back to our hotel and walk around the grounds a bit, spy the swimming pool and decide to get our suits on and get in. So up we go to our "small" room to change and hit the pool!
Next up: The first of our encounters with the Mean Lifeguards!!
