Trip Report started.
Looking forward to all the excitement from DL. I have never been.

I got teary eyed reading this. I am Daddy's Little Girl. Thanks for sharing this. Your Dad has left a wonderful legacy.

He was a good guy! This is weird but sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and feel like someone is in my room and I'll think (or even say out loud), "Oh, Dad." Then go back to sleep. I dream about him a lot. Maybe that's why. One time though, Buzz was out of town and I swear I felt a hand touch my cheek. I woke up and just had the feeling of my dad. It was weird but comforting. I'm happy to dream about him-I get to "see" him that way.

Ssshhhhhh don't tell anyone we went out Friday night for a chicken dinner at the Plaza Inn.

It was a totally therapeutic trip, Boot Strap was there providing his normal comical entertainment

I don't blame Buzz for getting ticked. That's always annoying.

It is annoying. And Buzz is so loud...

OH, I would LOVE to stay at the Grand Californian! It looks so pretty!

We were at the Tropicana at the other side of the esplanade... It worked though!

Gosh, I miss Disneyland!

Hope you made Nemo. WE were there last year when it opened, and the lines were over 4 hours long. So... needless to say we never rode it!

It was very pretty-we loved it! We thought about buying DVC points there, but we didn't like the life guards-yep they were that bad. It soured us on buying in there.

Hey Lin great start. I have been on one of those flights where the plane dropped so far and fast that a hand full of the people got sick.

Gotta luv those rental cars.


Are the CM at DL not as friendly as at WDW??? I can understand Buzz's anger. Sometimes I thing those people are BRAINDEAD!

Yikes-this drop wasn't that bad, but it scared everyone, well everyone but my kids.

The CM's were ok at DL. I commented I didn't think they were as friendly, but Buzz felt they were so I didn't mention it again. He likes to be right ya know!

Great update, Linnie! You've almost caught up with Buzz already!!

So, LA didn't like the smallness of your room, huh? I'm afraid that will happen with our kids. If we ever have to stay in a studio or a regular hotel room, they'll think something's wrong!

Their reaction was so funny! We laughed so hard!
Buzz TR is snail slow. I can't wait to see how many times they shut him down!

Nice. My kids always announce that they have to go as soon as that light goes ON. Or as soon as they have the cart jamming up the aisle.

All of this talk talk talk ... but where are the pictures to prove your messy popcorn experience, the quick stop on the freeway to close the hatch, entering the Grand Californian. Come on woman!! Post your pictures!!! Please.

I know, I know. See I didn't get a new camera so guess who was in charge of the pictures with his camera. And he didn't bring the charger so we had to conserve. Stoopid Buzz. He just bought a new camera yesterday and gave me his old one so from on, I'll be taking my own pictures on vacation. I'm better at it anyway. Hang in there-pictures on the way!!

I fell in love with the GC when we were there. I hope you have pictures.

I wouldn't have wanted that cleaning woman's job. She didn't look pleased. Ooooh donuts! I love donuts. I wonder if I can fashion some sort of low carb one.

Ok, I gotta get this TR going, I'm planning on having surgery next month so I want to be done before then. Reconstructive surgery-not a big deal, but I'll be laid up for awhile.


We finally land and everyone takes a bathroom break. We walk towards the gate with about an hour to wait. As we’re walking, the delicious aroma of popcorn comes wafting our way. The smell is too much for our starving crew. We settle in at the gate and Buzz goes to get some. He comes back with a large box of popcorn. Thinking this isn’t going to be good for my G.I. system, I do not indulge.

Buzz and the kids are on it like a pack of vultures. They’re carrying on about how yummy it is. Finally, I gave in and took a few handfuls, saying, “This is all I’m gonna eat.” After I ate about 20 more handfuls, I notice the bottom of the box is caving in and little bits of corn are falling out all over the place. Yeah, we eat like pigs.

I also notice a cleaning woman giving us the evil eye. No matter, we kept munching and spilling. Soon, our area looked like a hurricane hit it. To entertain himself, Trey is busy munging up the shiny silver pillars. They're so shiny-that definitely attracted him to them. That kid has the messiest hands ever, plus he's eating popcorn with butter so he's making a heck of a mess. The crabby cleaning woman keeps wiping the pillars off whenever he lets go of them to come get more popcorn to eat and spill.

Before too much longer, I see her coming our way with a broom and dustpan. She’ll need more than that to pick up our mess. We just sit and watch her work, still eating. They announce our flight is boarding so we gather our things and head for the plane, leaving the scowling woman to clean up after our disaster.

The flight goes relatively smooth. We hit some turbulence, which the pilot warned us about. LA announces she has to go to the bathroom so I go up there with her. As soon as we get to our seats they put the seat belt sign on. That was the most perfectly timed bathroom break ever!

We sit down and settle in with a coloring book and WHAM!! Our plane drops a significant amount, scaring everyone! People are shrieking and looking panicked. My kids are laughing and saying, “Whee! That was fun!” They have huge smiles on their faces-it’s like a ride to them.

We land safely and pick up our bags, with Buzz grumbling because ours had a priority ticket on them, but they were last getting off the plane. Oh well. We picked the funkiest looking rental car. We have no pictures of it because we put it in Valet Parking and didn’t see it again until we left Friday morning. But it was weird looking-kind of like a PT Cruiser, but a little different.

We throw our stuff in the hatchback and are on our way. We’re speeding down the freeway, excitement is in the air. We’re all chatting happily and all of a sudden, the light comes on that the hatch is open. After a minute of silence, Buzz decides to pull over but he’s on the driver’s side and doesn’t want to risk getting hit by a speeding car so what the heck. He risks me. I jump out, slam the back shut and get back in the car intact. It was quite scary to be so close to cars going 70 and 80 miles an hour. I spent the rest of the way to the hotel (another 30 mins) protesting to Buzz that I really did shut the stupid hatch. I even double checked it-it just didn’t get shut all the way. The rental car was actually pretty rickety so it might’ve even worked its way open. Who knows. Buzz swore I didn’t shut it. I swore I did.

We got to our hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian and it is beautiful! There is only one person in line ahead of us so 2 CM’s checking people in decide to take their break right then. This does not sit well with Buzz. He loudly says, “Well, that was great timing.” I didn’t know what was going on because I was looking all around at the beautiful decor. However, Buzz continued saying it until I asked him what was great timing. Even louder now, he tells me how the women took a break right then. Pipe down Buzz, it's not the end of the world!

A CM comes over to the guy ahead of us in line. I’m not sure what this CM’s job is, but I want it. He asked the guy in line his name and stood there with him. When a CM behind the counter was available, he walked up there with that guy. Then he came to us and asked Buzz our name. Buzz is still griping about the poorly timed coffee break so the guy stands a little away from us. I don’t blame him. When it’s our turn, he walks with us up to the counter and that was end of his job from what I could see. I would love to do that! “What’s your name?” Then stand there til it’s their turn to get checked in! Except for encountering crabby travelers like Buzz, it would be a cake job!

The CM checking us in was really nice and gave some important tips that would come back to haunt me. She stressed the early hour entrance for those of us staying on-site: Tuesday and Thursday, DL opens one hour early and if you want to see Finding Nemo, get there right at 9:00 or it’ll be too late. I also read in my DL Unoffical Guide book that it’s the number one attraction at DLR so I make a mental note for later.

She gave us all kinds of goodies, free pins, stickers, just tons of stuff. I love the freebies.

Our room was ready so we went right up to the 4th floor on one of the fastest elevators I’ve ever seen in a hotel.

Next up: “There’s something wrong with our room! It’s not all there!!” (from the mouth of a 6 year old)

This is all pretty accurate. Buzz gets a little "testy" while traveling.

The car was a Chevy HHR:

Ours was white though.

I pulled over and Lin shut the hatch on the back because a warning light told us it was still open and she was the LAST one to close it.

I didn't want to get out because the spot we pulled over was very narrow so I was sticking out in the freeway (60) with 8 lanes of LA traffic zooming by us. Lin lived.

We did gets lots of freebies but the idiots forgot to give us our $150 gift card and I was too frazzled to remember it.

The check in lady cheered me up. She was gud.

The balcony was nice as it was in the sun in the afternoon so we could dry the swimming suits.

Our balcony view was of a roof of another building. Not gud, but didn't matter, we barely use the balconies where we stay. Not sure why...

That room was dark. I thought it'd be hard to get used to a smaller room when we always stay in bigger ones, but it was actually pretty fun.

I'm glad you all enjoyed the room - I'm kinda sorta a bit worried about staying at ASMo, but I'm so outnumbered it's not even funny!
