The Wilderness Lodge FAQ (Part 6) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

hi there, I'm new to the WL FAQ board...I just booked my trip two days ago and I'll be there in eight days! I won't have time to read through the whole thread, so I apologize if these have been asked before. I booked a standard view room. I am looking for a quieter room. When I check in, is there a particular wing or section of the resort I should request? I will also be traveling solo with DD3 so convenience is a must too. Where would I request to be closer to restaurant and/or pool?

I also just read that the ELP goes by the WL. What time does it go by, and how long does it last? Thanks for your help, I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions before my trip arrives!

Congrats! Only 8 days away, how exciting. You're going to have a blast with your DD.

The current schedule is that it arrives at the WL at 9:35 and moves to FW by 9:45. You can always check w/the resort, too, to make sure that there aren't changes for any reason.

HTH! :)

I am going to be staying at the WL in a little over 3 weeks :cool1: , my question is do standard rooms have dvd players?? They last time I was there we got upgraded to CL and they had dvd players in those rooms. I am just trying to figure out if I should bring my sons dvds with us.

Another option is if you have a portable DVD player that you are taking with you make sure to take your av jacks with you and you can just plug it into the tv in your room.

I have read some of these posts, but just don't have time to read the whole thing. We have 3 kids and every date I have plugged in for dec-end of jan says only thing available is a suite. Is this right? Can a family of 5 NOT get a regular room with a daybed/trundle or something? My kids want to stay here or at the Poly. I guess we'll have to do Poly if nothing is available. I like the Poly, but we've never stayed here and wanted to give it a try. also, we do not want to spend $500+ a night--we can get a room for 5 at the poly for around $350,so that's great!! Just curious about these rooms.

The standard WL rooms don't have any way to sleep more than 4 (unless you have a little one in a pack & play). The Poly, the GF, CR, and Epcot deluxes have daybeds for a fifth person; there's just no room for them at the WL or AKL because the rooms are smaller (340 sq. feet), and they don't have trundle beds (like they do at POR).

If you do a deluxe room (junior suite) at the WL, you'll have sleeping for your 5 -- two beds in the bedroom and the fold-out couch in the sitting room. If you don't want to go that route, then the Poly is a great option. :thumbsup2

We just returned from WL last night & loved it. Although we had to deal w/4 straight days of rain from TS Fay, we had a great time. Didn't even get in the pool or see EWP...2 things I had wanted to do, but with so much rain, by the time we got back to the resort....all we wanted to do was stay dry. We had an inner courtyard view. Highly recommend the lodge to anyone.

Wow, thanks so much for these maps and pictures! Really helpful. Looks like there's only one wing for standard rooms anyway, right? I think I saw one floor for standard rooms off the lobby. These are noisy rooms, right, because you can hear all the noise from the WCC below? Or are these better rooms, because they're off the lobby? Also, off topic, but, are there irons in the rooms? do all standard rooms have balconies?

There is definitely an iron and ironing board in each room and they all have a balcony (or patio on the ground floor).

There is a huge amount of information about different rooms on page 1 of this thread.

I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time whichever room you are in!

I know there are coffeepots with filters in the rooms, but was wondering if you can buy little creamers downstairs, or if they provide powdered cream? I'm going to bring my Dunkins and just wondering what to do about cream :) (can't live without my dunkin donuts coffee!) one week from today and we'll be there, I can't even stand it!

Also, at the pool, there are plenty of towels and lifejackets, and a place to change by the pool right? I'm thinking of taking a quick run over to MK after arrival, and then jumping in the pool after we come back before we head back up to our room.

One last question for now...when you check in and your room's not ready, you can leave your bags at check in and they'll put them in your room when it's ready, or do you have to come back and pick them up later? Are you nervous about leaving anything valuable, like if you had a DVD player and DVDs in there?

The refillable mugs are still generic right? I'm still trying to figure out if I should buy one...

Thanks for your help, I'm sure I'll have more questions before we leave

The mugs are blue and have "Year of a Million Dreams" on them. If you buy one you could have endless free coffee and creamer from Roaring Forks.

Didn't see a place to change near the pool :confused3 but there are towels etc.

We got back a week ago today and by Friday I was desperate to go back!!! :sad2:

Bring coffee filters! The coffee they provide for you comes in the prepackaged filter thingy so you will need a filter if you want to brew your own. You will need the small basket type filter. There is powdered creamer, sugar and artificial sweetener provided too. We were just there a couple weeks ago and we were brewing our Dunkins too. If someone could just open a Dunkins franchise down there they would make MILLIONS!

us new englanders sure love our dunkins coffee! there is nothing like it! and yet, I love the south for krispy kreme donuts, which never made it in new england. if someone could figure out how to make fantastic coffee AND donuts in the same place, they'd be a genius :) Thanks for the tip about bringing my own filters, I really don't drink any other coffee. I just don't like coffee enough. can you brew coffee upstairs and then walk down to the lobby to get creme from roaring forks? (put some in a cup and keep it in your fridge?)

Yes, you can leave your bags and bell services will bring your bags to your room when it's ready. I am not sure I'd leave a DVD player in the room and it won't fit in the safe. Maybe they could hold it at the front desk?? I am sure it's probably safe, but you never know. The only "valuables" we bring are our iPods and cell phones and if we leave them in the room we put them in the safe.

DH and I kept saying the whole time we were down there that Dunkins would make a FORTUNE in WDW, their coffee is so bad. I swear there is an addictive agent in it. I drink it black (I don't mess with my caffeine) and DH just uses sugar (he isn't sweet enough first thing in the morning) so I didn't actively search out creamer, but I am sure it is in Roaring Forks. And it should be ok to bring some back to your room. One day when we were wiped out I got our dinner "to go" from Roaring Forks and they gave me a big brown bag with handles to carry it back to my room, and I put salt, pepper, ketchup, forks, knives, spoons, etc etc in the bag. I grabbed extra plastic wear because we had snacks/ cereal in our room too and it seemed to be an ok/normal thing to do. You might even be able to buy it in the mercantile, they have a goodish selection of grocery items, if you are uncomfortable liberating creamer from Roaring Forks.

Enjoy your Dunkins in WDW!

When we stay in a resort where the laptop or DVD player don't fit in the safe, we put them in a locked suitcase, along with any accessories, so there's no evidence of them being there. :thumbsup2

I'm going to set up a little stand like a lemonade stand, but I'll have Dunkin' Donuts coffee instead of lemonade. Maybe that's how I'll get the money to pay for DVC!

I am a DD gal myself and the key to making coffee at disney is using bottled water... and they do sell 1/2 1/2 in the store at wl.

as far as changing, there is a small bathroom nearby (opposite building from roaring forks)... we changed there into dry clothes before flying out
