The Wilderness Lodge FAQ (Part 6) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

I'd just like to book a standard room (best price possible). Are there any requests I should make. I'm assuming that we can't choose a specific view or location for the lowest rate. The only thing we have to have is non-smoking, but all rooms are non-smoking now. It's for two adults.

Any ideas or suggestions on requests (if any)?

Thanks, Nora

A standard room rate is the same no matter where it is in the lodge.

As far as requests go, it depends on what part of the lodge you want to be in. There are standard rooms throughout the lodge. If you want to be near the main lobby you can request a room that opens up to the lobby. If you want to be closer to Roaring Forks and the boat dock to MK ask for a room in the North Wing...etc.... It all depends on what your preference is.

Disappointed with concierge already....

I made our WL club level reservation last December. I filled out my request and faxed it back, they confirmed all that I had written. We are only there for 2 nights, Thursday and Friday. One of my request was lunch with an imagineer on Friday at the MGM/Brown Derby. I have looked forward to this forever and a day and so has my family.

I emailed them back last week (IPO office) regarding our stay. They email me back and let me know that they couldn't get me into the lunch with the imagineer?? They only had room for 1 person and we had 4. If I would have known that, I would have tried to get it myself. They came across originally as it was not a big deal back in Dec.. I am so disappointed, my family doesn't even know yet and we leave in 6 days.

Keep in mind, I only had 2 lunches requested for the IPO office..that was it?
We had nothing else on our fax.

very frustrated....

We are due to check in next Sunday June 14th. We have requested a 5 or 6 floor courtyard view of the pool. This is our 25th year wedding anv, and I want everything to be nice. Do we need to fax our room request? I want to thnak you for any input you may have. If for some reason we do nor get our request and end up with a court yard view of the villas pool, would that be that bad?

It might be well worth attempting to book this yourself right now. I agree this should have been taken care of. If you can't book it, I would probably call to ask and see if they could try again. Explain that you sent everything in early. I hope you have some luck. Here's a little pixie dust!pixiedust: pixiedust:

thanks Lily....maybe I will try myself. I am still very excited to stay there...its my first Disney true resort luv :) I just really never dreamed they weren't booking it for me. They took my CC# and everything back then and said on the phone it was no problem but they couldn't book it until the spring. (which I already knew)

I'm sure this far out (5 days) I won't be able to get it but I will give it a shot.

I guess I just expect for what I am paying per night for the club level that they would have been more courteous as to have called me or emailed me to let me know there was a problem. Maybe I am just asking too much...I don't know.

thanks for the pixie dust :)

Corinne,

Yes, it is so much fun!!!

The last time we were there, we brought those glow necklaces and gave them out. Not only to the kids, but also to the adults. We had a such a blast!! Everyone joined in.

Do you just take the cards from the Disney Trivia game? I have the game in the round metal canister type looking container. I guess we could use those.
I was just wondering if there were any others that you might know of.

Yes, we have the Disney Trivia game. We just bring the little box that has the cards in it. One nice thing is that the cards come in adult and childrens types.

We also have the Disney Music Trivia game. That's the one that has the piece that you plug in a series of numbers and it plays the beginnings of Disney tunes and then the cards ask you questions and you have to figure what movie or character it is. My niece who is seven, just loves this game. She "borrowed" this from us for a month. :goodvibes

It's just fun.

Woohoo!! We arrived tonight at the WLV and loving it! The resort is beautiful and the CM's are so friendly. We ate dinner at WCC and while it was delicious, it was so much food! That skillet is huge for two people.

The main pool was closed tonight at 9pmmain, which was a little strange. As a consequence, the Villas pool was super crowded.

The Studio is huge, much bigger than I had expected. There's lots of storage space and room to move around in. We have real glasses and mugs, but plastic forks and spoons. Go figure.

What a great start to a Disney vacation we've been looking forward to for so many months.

Last time I was there, I found out that when the pool is closed, you can still use it at your own risk if everyone stays quiet and low key, I was only in the pool once or twice the whole stay while there were lifequards there, most of the time I spent in the pool was after 1am (I never adjusted from pacific time). There was a problem with a catfish getting into the pool twice within a half hour one night, it was somehow jumping and flopping across enough to get all the way from the lake to the pool recirculation stream, all the way into the pool... we chased it around and scooped it out with the little pool cleaning net

So if you want some less crowded pool time, you can probably just get in the closed one without anyone saying anything.

Hi everyone! :wave2: I called and got all my ADR today. :yay: I know that this question has been asked many times, but I have a BBB appointment for 8:00AM in MK. What is the best way to get there from WL. My DD and I will be leaving at 7:00AM to get there on time. Thanks for your help!

What time does MK open that day? The first post in the thread mentions that the MK boat runs 1/2 hour before park opening. I did see somewhere else that they mentioned the first one being crowded, though.

Probably the quickest option would be to take the MK bus which I understand to be about a 5 minute trip from WL to MK.

Have fun at BBB!

I know! :confused3  :rotfl2:
nothing like a nice 2am game of catch the catfish.

:lmao: If it wasn't Disney, I would find it hard to believe. Even the catfish are trying to pool hop. :rotfl: I laughed until I cried visualizing you and your family and the flying catfish. :rotfl2: To me, you get the prize for the funniest Disney experience and post.

heh, family experience? my mom was safe in the hot tub, me and the other crazies that were swimming until 2:30am were trying to corral and catch it. We were joking about the realistic animatronics the whole time though :lmao: We never saw it getting into the pool, so we never knew where it was coming from, we were just assuming that it was coming up under the bridge between the hot tub and the bar, or that someone managed to catch 2 the same size and let them go in the creek uphill from the pool

Thank you! :goodvibes The park opens at 9:00AM. I'm thinking I might have to get us a cab if the busses aren't running that early. I thought they might have an early bus for early morning dining reservations? Maybe someone will know. Thanks again.

We have finally returned from a week at Wilderness Lodge. IT WAS GLORIOUS!!! That resort is incredible!

I wanted to thank all the people here who helped answer my questions beforehand (especially Beckie). Our trip went smooth as silk as a result of the planning I was able to do prior to our trip . . . all because of this thread.

We were able to get a 1 bedroom villa on the 3rd floor with a "pool view." We didn't have an unobstructed view of the pool (some trees in the way), but we had a pretty walkway to view off our balcony. It was fun to watch people on the walkway throughout the day as well as periodically find little bunnies and birds hop along the path.

We did A LOT of the activities mentioned in the first couple posts of this thread. We did the campfire/sing-a-long at Fort Wilderness. My kids were wild with excitement at seeing Chip and Dale, and they had fun participating in the songs.

We also took them to the Cub's Den one afternoon for the craft time. This was slightly dissappointing for them because they saw a lot of toys that were reserved for the "paid babysitting" kids that come in the evening. But they still found the atmosphere and available toys and crafts to be worth their time.

We rode the boats on Bay Lake A LOT. My kids loved riding over to the Contemporary just to experience the escalators and monorail over there. And one evening we rode to the Contemporary to watch High School Musical on the beach.

They found the Electrical Water Parade to be very amusing.

The main pool at the lodge with the slide was a HUGE hit too.

One thing that they did not enjoy much was the Hidden Mickey Search. That hunt is down-right hard. It was too hard for them to enjoy the challenge. I think that if we were given a list of the Hidden Mickeys (rather than clues) that we simply had to walk to and look at, they would have had more fun because they did enjoy seeing them. So . . . we didn't find all the Mickeys, but we did find most of them. If someone needs the answers, I don't mind passing them along. And if someone else knows ALL the answers, I would like to know the ones we didn't find for our next trip.

I took the Wilderness Lodge tour one morning. It was not as exciting as I hoped it would be. At some points I was giving our guide information about the lore of the lodge that I learned from this thread that he didn't know (such as rubbing Humphrey's nose). But this older man was so adorable to watch because you could tell that he LOVED his job. This made up for the lack of excitement.

The playground on the beach was appreciated by my two youngest until my 3 y.o. got sand in her eye.

Being DVC members, we got to borrow free movies from the merchandise store. That was nice so that on some evenings we had our own family movie in our room.

And then my kids simply loved being in the lobby. My 3 y.o. couldn't get enough of the bridge that crossed the bubbling geyser at the far end of the lobby.

Since we spent two days at MK, we missed out on pool games and duck races. And due to my children being on a medical diet for their health condition and lack of a babysitter (Cub's Den wouldn't take my 3 y.o.), we weren't able to eat at Artist's Point. But other than these regrets, we had such a FANTASTIC time.

For the villas, I highly recommend a "pool view" for those who like to observe a small amount of activity. Our view from the third floor seemed just right. Plus our room -- #3517 -- was very close to the elevators, right on the atrium, as close as you can get to the bus stop, a brief walk to the lobby, a stone's throw away from the gym and very close to the villa pool which had bubbling geysers throughout it. If my husband and I had to do things in the room and the kids got a little antsy, it was easy to send them down to the atrium and that small checkers/train museum/reading room while still supervising them. I just had to walk out my door and peek over my railing to see them or leave my door open to hear their giggles.

We did ride the bus to MK on the mornings we treked to the parks. The ride was VERY quick as someone on this thread told me, and the wait for the bus was not torturous.

My 8 y.o. said it best when, holding hands on a walk back to our room from a trip to the merchandise store, she said, "This lodge is so incredible. Every step in it just screams HOME!" Then as she walked with me she started saying with every step, "Home, home, home . . . just like that."

I melted in that moment and knew that we had made a great choice in picking VWL for our first vacation as DVC members. Thanks again for helping this be a vacation full of priceless memories for our family.
