Bless his heart. I hope he gets what he needs through birth-3. :guilty:

I think that his Dr got them involved. Mom and dad are as dumb as a box of rocks when it comes to this poor little boy. When I started watching him they told me he usually cried for hours at nap time. Really????? I told them he was sick, that no baby whimpers when they are sleeping. He was in some kind of pain. No. Two days of that and i repeated.....this baby needs to go to the Dr. Poor little baby had a double ear infection that was terrible. I could go on and on but finally suggested they get him into a regular day care. They were very angry with me but agreed that he would benefit from it. I think that day care lady has been able to point out that his development is not the same as the other children his age and that he should get some intervention.

Welby told me the grandmother has approached them to inquire about his status and if they should seek help for him. Nope, Mom. He is fine.

The good thing about most birth-3 orgs is that they have developmental specialists that will educate parents as well. I hope that these parents are just uneducated in this dept. and nothing above and beyond that. :guilty:

I'm glad he's in daycare. Being around typically developing peers is one of the best things for him. Ugh. I hate the little ones like this. They just tug at your heart strings.

PIO - I have no waist line left either! :laughing: I feel really left out of Christmas this year. Usually my niece and nephews send lists, but nothing. :confused3 Today I just bought everyone gift cards for Target, Sears, HD, or Toys R Us. I have a couple things for my parents, but we agreed among the three Vegas bound, no gifts. I could look in my vintage cookbook collection, there's one book from the 50's that has Everything!

Nancy - So glad you got your mantle sorted out!

Janice - I am so pleased not to be working in Customer Service! I got so fed up with dealing with imbeciles! At least none of our tenants are stupid! :lmao:

Brandi - Your DH will be fine, the trip to Texas will take his mind off it and he won't have long to stress over it after that.

Marilyn - Hopefully your tires will make it to tax time.

Becky - I can't believe that gummy bear story! Did anyone ever wonder WHAT was floating around in there?

Brandi - That banana bread sounds wonderful, we used to make a similar recipe for my teachers growing up. I miss making it, but we never eat it all anymore. :sad2:

Emily - You must live in So Cal, San Diego? That's the only place I know of where no one knows how to drive in the rain!

Robin - Good luck with the septic tank situation! Construction is always expensive.

Aimee - glad the gummi bears were a success! Do you think your employer would want you eating vodka infused candy at work? :rotfl2:

Glynis - I hope that you make it through Alan's finals!

Jen - Glad that you made it through the Rudolphs! Hang in there, only a few days left.

Nancy - parents really should pass a proffiency exam before their reproductive parts work! :rotfl: It's a little extreme, but I hear so many stories oof parents who mean well, bit don't have a clue.

Tonight we have band practice. We left with plenty of time to get stuck in LA Holiday rush hour traffic. We made it in stellar time, I wanted a sit down meal and not a drive thru eaten on my lap. She didn't want to get out of the car, so I ate alone while she slept I had a salad, BLT and onion and then gave her half of my meal.

Nancy - Glad you made it to the post office. And that mantle of yours sounds great. I love old hand touched wood. Thanks for the rumball recipe. It looks great except for the nuts....one of my neighbours and one nephew and one niece are HIGHLY allergic to nuts. I'll remember it for myself. Thanks for posting. :hug:
I think I may have gotten another rumball recipe that fits what I'm looking for. I'm gonna get the ingredients and try it out this weekend....pictures and recipe will probably follow shortly thereafter.

Janice - I hope that when you wrap up the gifts you find that you're pretty close to being done. And it is called the silly season.....lots of people take that to mean that they can ask silly questions.

Lindsay - Howdy do dee! How was the Geek meeting? Your Scott sounds like he would get on well with my DH.

Brandi - I've decided to get off the couch and TRY to run. I say TRY because I've never been able to run at all in all my life! It's just one of those years....I know I'm nearly done but for some reason, I feel like I'm so behind...or should we use bahookie....???

Marilyn - I hope you'll update us on the results. And Happy early Birthday wishes for Saturday. I hope you get a great big whopping tax return so that you can do more with it than just get 2 back tyres!! :sad2:

Becky - nice looking coconut shrimp curry. I think you posted the recipe earlier?? I should go back to the index to see. :laughing: I've volunteered to cook a shrimp dish for Christmas Eve dinner at my mums.

Emily - glad that you're all done with root canal work. :thumbsup2

Robin - Sounds like you've had quite a month! I hope you get some respite during the Christmas period. I have a $30 limit on presents as well...although lately everything just seems so much more expensive. I've cut down on the people we buy presents for...just us 3 (DH, DS and me); nephews and nieces and parents. Even the siblings don't get anything any more. I still have 2 aunts that I HAVE to get something for. What do you get when everyone already has so much stuff??? I've gotten something small and will give them a cake.
Hmmmm.....now that I've typed it out, I really think that making some rumballs might just make it all seem *more*...but it might only just be my perception rather than reality.

Aimee - I hope you get motivated and out of your funk. More bahookie talk....get your butt into gear! Or maybe we can take a vote and shift Christmas this year....:laughing:

Glynis - Good luck to Alan for finals. Hope your baking goes well.

Jen - Enjoy your first married together Christmas. It's always nice to have a smaller and more intimate gathering. For that reason, I really enjoy Christmas Day lunch. It's just us and my parents. They aren't getting younger....so it's nice to have some quality time with them.

And more bahookie talk.....I now understand what my problem is. In order to find my waist, my derrier needs to be BIGGER!! :scared1:

YAY for making it to the post office as well!

Alison - Sorry that you're feeling left out! Do you think your niece and nephews just got busy this year? In any case, I think the gift card is a great alternative to give when you don't have a wish list! :flower3:
Hope you enjoyed band practise.

I finally got all the bits and pieces I wanted to get DH shopped (and will be wrapping after I post this post). However, I still haven't gotten him a 'big' present. I was going to get him a watch...but he's so picky and when I asked him if he liked anything out of a catalogue, he told me not to get him a watch unless he picked it out himself. So, I think I might need to go with either an iTunes voucher or Gold Class movie tickets; or a combination.

And on top of everything, DS has a birthday party to go to this weekend; plus his class has decided to do a Kris Kringle. Looks like I need to get a boy's birthday present and a girl's KK gift as well. At least I won't have to rush to a mall for either of those two presents.

Morning! :surfweb:
Ok, I FINALLY get to sit down and catch up on everything. Sorry about all my fly-bys. Things have been nuts around here lately and I haven't gotten much time to sit and post/read. Ack!

I am making us hamburger steaks for dinner tonight. The church's dinners are done for the year and will resume in January so I have to start having meals on Wednesday for a few weeks. Sides to be determined later.

Lindsay - awesome clip of the drummer boy and the choir. Hope you thought it went well as well.

So......I'm on the hunt for a killer Rum Ball recipe. Anyone have one that they'd like to share?

I think it went well. I am still a little hoarse, though :headache: Hey, I got your Christmas card! You were my first of the season! I've got to get mine done.

And I do have a killer rum ball recipe.

Chocolate Rum Balls

1 3/4 cups vanilla wafer cookie crumbs
1 cup ground pecans
1 cup confectioners sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
3 tablespoons light corn syrup
1/4 cup light rum
1/3 cup confectioners' sugar (for dipping)

Mix all ingredients, except for 1/3 cup confectioners’ sugar. Roll into one inch balls. Roll balls in remaining confectioners’ sugar to coat.

Makes about 2 ½ dozen.

Ok, I have to ask. What kind of camera do you use? I am seriously considering starting a food blog and my pictures never turn out as gorgeous as yours.

Yup! I like it with large slices of tomato covered in sharp cheddar cheese, then broiled until the cheese is all bubbly! Yum!!!

I am making this!!! YUMMY!

You've got the idea!!!! :rotfl2:

Is Kris Kringle like a gift exchange of some sort?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everyone! My internet works this morning so all is well with the world. :laughing:
Work will be easy today/well, easyish. I'll be doing billing, but won't have to see very many kids.
I also have to get to the store. We're doing a gift exchange at work on Friday and I need something for that. Plus, I have a snack day on Friday, and I'm making two things: cucumber sammies and cookie brittle. I need to shop for that too.
Tonight's dinner is spicy shrimp over pasta.
Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!
Good Morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am supposed to be very busy but so far......not so much ;) Maybe in a bit
Dinner is leftover turkey something. I want to get a turkey soup going this morning and then off to Kady's Christmas show. This is the first time Buddy cannot sneak away to watch her and he was very disappointed.
Nola likes Dora the Explorer and several months back we were reading a story that The Grumpy Old Troll was in. Well she has been referring to Buddy as The Grumpy Old Troll ever since. The other night Marisa took her to Build a Bear and they stopped in to show us the bears and someone helped her come up with Grumpy Old Wife :confused3:rotfl: Really Marisa???????????
Glynis, I love tuna melts. I would eat your pizza! John hates canned tuna though, he won't eat it in any form. Sometimes I make it when he is not home.
Aimee, all of your vodkas sounds very interesting. I have not tried infusing liquor before. Maybe I will have to give it a try.
Ok, I have to ask. What kind of camera do you use? I am seriously considering starting a food blog and my pictures never turn out as gorgeous as yours.
It's a Canon Rebel on a tripod. I store it in a corner of my dining room. I have the tripod already adjusted for the height of my table so it is very fast to whip it out for a picture. I also have an overhead fixture that has daylight bulbs installed that I turn on to try and counteract the fact that it is almost always pitch black outside when we are eating! In my opinion the best food photos are taken in natural daylight but that's usually not an option for me.
:rotfl:
That is hilarious. We sometimes call my Dad "Grumpy Grampy." :laughing:
WFD: something with chicken. I think.
What is everyone making for Christmas dinner? I am having a hard time deciding this year.
Lightin' is everythin' next to great presentation of food. ::yes::
We have fluorescents in our kitchen 'n my wife sez it's too much trouble to load pictures to the net from our Nikon, the one we bought so we could take really good pictures. She loads directly to Facebook from her phone, that's why it appears we eat a lot of grey food! :rotfl:
liamsaunt, I can eat your food right off the computer screen, I wanna make 'em into screen savers! :lmao:
Morning, all! It's overcast and cold here. Smells like snow!
Dinner last night was simple spaghetti, which everyone likes, so it always makes me feel like a winner! Tonight we are having chili dogs. Warm, fast and yummy! Jacob has Scouts, and Katie has her church group tonight so we need something that everyone can eat when they are home.
Today I'm going to try to get going on my Christmas candy. I usually make peanut brittle, the pretzel treats with kisses on them, and fudge. This year, I'm trying a recipe for microwave caramels, instead of the fudge. I'll try a batch this morning and see how it goes. If it doesn't work out well, I'll go back to my fudge.
Katie's backpack gave out this morning, as she was leaving the house. We scrambled a tote bag together for her, but it looks like she'll be getting a new backpack under the tree. Exciting, huh?
:rotfl2::rotfl2: I think I am going to make an appetizer type buffet. So far I am planning
BBQ turkey meatballs
Sweet and sour kielbasa
Tortierre Fr. meat pie)
maybe sauerkraut
A hot meat dip with crackers
:confused3:confused3:confused3
Spaghetti was a winner in my house this week too :thumbsup2
I have a turkey stock working. So far that's it
Glynis- Check LLBean, there backpacks don't ever give up! My husband has some of his work gear in his from highschool. They usually have pretty good deals in the clearence section. We got my daughter a new one this year for middle school, but the one she had from k through 5th was in perfect condition- just a little to young looking. Oh, and there shipping is free and very fast.
Becky- All I'm making for Christmas dinner are rosemary rolls, that's it. I don't even have to do anything for Christmas eve. Normally I don't mind cooking at all, but this year Christmas really snuck up on me and I want to have some time to slow down and enjoy it. I will make an obscene amount of cookies for the guys my husband works with.
PIO- I think rumballs for your aunt's would be just fine, especially if they have everything. I always get my parents some nice frozen meals that they can pack in their RV freezer. They leave for Florida after Christmas and don't have room for "stuff" so I try and get them things that won't add clutter.
Nancy- I'm glad the little guy is finally getting help, I'm just sorry that it took so long.
Janice- I would have to flavor the vodka because there is no way in heck I can afford anything good!
Kathy- Hope all is well with you, haven't "seen" you in a while.
Back from the vet with a partially shaved dog. He is VERY furry so now I'll be able to clean his sore a bit better. Poor guy, more time in "the cone of shame."
Tonight I'm making Aimee's enchilada soup and beer bread. Have a great day all!
Hi everyone,
I am so far behind and I really don't know if I can read back and catch up so I am just going to jump in.
I have been so swamped at work, and probably will be till the middle of January, when Advent is over, year end reports are sent in and accounting program is set to the new year. It was a year ago this morning that my little world fell apart and Eleanor quit, leaving me in this mess. It is so much better but still not perfect - not even close - so frustrating!!
On a much better note - Liam is coming home today!!! He has just done perfectly. Doug and I went up on Sunday and I FINALLY got to snuggle that sweet baby. Oh he smelled so good. Jay and Elizabeth are at the hospital as I type getting him ready to leave. I am so excited as I am sure his parents are to. This little family is so ready to be together again. And just in time for Christmas. He dropped to 5 lbs 5 oz but as of yesterday is 5lbs 7 1/2 oz. Still really little but doing so good. As soon as work is over I am going over for a quick snuggle (if he is awake) or just a peek if he is sleeping. What a wonderful Christmas present we have gotten.
WFDT ~ Homemade vegetable barley beef soup with fiesta cornbread.
Make it a great day my friends.
OMG. I thought I was the only one who loved BLT with onion! :lmao:
Actually it should have read "onion rings", but I could add onion to almost anything and love it!
Todd English Pub! :laughing:
I think I'm going to have to whip up a batch of spaghetti sauce here soon, all this talk of spaghetti, is making me crave it. BTW, the Lasagna soup was GREAT!
Obviously you don't live in California! :rotfl: I think it sounds awesome, but that much meat would never fly out here!
Ours hate the cone of shame, and they are always hitting it on things and knocking themselves over. Poor thing! :hug:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We're having Corned Beef Ruben Casserole for dinner tonight. I found it in a low carb cookbook back when we were doing Atkins. We're not eating that way any more, but I stilll kind of like the casserole. It's corned beef, cheesy goodness cooked up almost similar to a souffle with caraway seeds, just no rye bread.

It seems to me we aren't going to do much of anything today. Fran seems too wiped out from going to rehearsal last week. I think we are going to have a very mellow trip to Vegas next week.

On a much better note - Liam is coming home today!!!

Best Christmas Present Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!

I wanted to suggest LL bean too! Kady got her there 2 years ago after going through at least two a year. Marisa replaced it this year because even though it was still in good shape she was tired of explaining the monogram ;)

Poor puppy:sick:

Oh it is a lot of meat but everyone grazes. i will have more things, I just don't know what I feel like making yet. ;):confused3

can you share the casserole recipe for me please?

Go slow and let Fan heal. It will take time but you have plenty of that :thumbsup2

Kady's concert was good :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

Alison - Glad you liked the lasagna soup! It's a keeper in our house!!!

Ellen - What a marvelous Christmas present!!! I saw his picture on FB, and he is a doll!! Go get your Gramma snuggles!!!

Becky - We are having a large dinner on Christmas Eve with Alan's mom and her husband, so Christmas dinner is going to be pretty low key. We'll do an appetizer spread that I'll just set out and keep going all day long. We'll also have the leftovers from dinner the night before.

Ruben Corned Beef Casserole

8 oz shredded corned beef
2 eggs
½ cup mayonnaise
½ cup heavy whipping cream
1 tsp dehydrated onion
½ tsp dry mustard
2 tsp caraway weeds
2/3 cup sauerkraut
2 cups shredded swiss cheese

Preheat the oven to 375°F.

Grease a 6-cup casserole, and place the corned beef in the bottom of it.

In a bowl, combine the eggs, mayonnaise, whipping cream, onion, dry mustard and caraway seeds. Drain and rinse the sauerkraut, and add it to the mayonnaise mixture.

Pour the mayo mixture over the corned beef and sprinkle the cheese on top. Bake covered for 30 minutes, then uncover for an additional 15 minutes.

I don't have any pictures, but I will take one tonight and post it. I'm going to only make a half recipe since there are only two of us.

WFD - The smothered pork chops....

So I had an appt. with my GP today to do all of the blood work, and have a general exam before my surgery...

Everything was going fine until time to draw blood, I am sitting there talking to the woman, and she pricks, and the vial is filling up and the next thing I know I am on the ground and people are calling my name and rubbing my face with a cold rag....

Passed out... Right there int he Dr office. out cold on the floor...

oh well, they move me back to the chair, make me site there and drink a soda, a real one, which I have not had in ages.... and then when I have color back, they let me go...

I was doing the walk of shame out of there, I was so embarrassed:sad2:

Oh no! I'm so sorry!! I would be embarassed, too, but you really shouldn't be - it was certainly not your doing!

Today has been interesting... my tire was flat, again, so I set my alarm to hit Discount Tire when they opened at 8am so I'd have time to meet my mom at 10am. I flipped the alarm off and wake up too late to do anything but throw on clothes and race to the tire store.

Thankfully, I get done in time to meet mom for a morning showing of The Muppets. I really wanted her to see it with me, and since tonight is going to be rough for me, I needed a feel good movie to start the day. Plus we were the only ones in the theater so we sang along :laughing:

However, since I woke up late I didn't get to wash/dry my hair. And it's gross and unacceptable to wear tonight. And I don't have time to get back home after the movie.

So, I made an appt at the local beauty school and after the movie, had them wash and dry it. I tell you what; if I was independantly wealthy, I'd pay someone to wash and dry my hair everyday. What a treat! And my hair - which is really long and thick - looks great!

I got into work later than normal but I work until almost 9pm so I figure it all evens out :laughing:

Last night, we smoked a chicken so we're having that with a new recipe, spinach and artichoke mac and cheese. I also have to make a dish for a work party - another new recipe, butternut squash pasta casserole. It'll be a late night!
