The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

:surfweb:sitting here looking out at my deck, which looks just like Merle's pic. It is certainly a winter wonderland out there. I would be enjoying it much more if DH were sitting here with us. He headed out to work at 3am because of the mass of people rushing out in the blizzard to buy their seltzer and soda. :lmao: Some companies just don't care about employees safety. Thank goodness for 4-wheel drive.

I hope the Liam girls made it home safely.

We got a huge stack of cards over the past two days. DS is loving it as much as I am. Thank you all for your continued friendships.

Maria, I have not posted or read the thread lately. I was hoping to comeback and read something positive. As always thinking of you and continued prayers. Hope DM made out okay with neighbor car drama. I was amazed to read about your inner sailor mouth, :rotfl: I did not expect it from you for some reason. ;) I guess I don't have to worry about mine shocking you then.

All of you in a holiday funk!!! :grouphug: Thinking of Gretchen, Wendie, Buddy, Lauren's Brother and Kat especially.

I can't believe holiday is less than a week away and I have no plan of attack for food. I am doing Christmas Eve for the kids, then Christmas day will be two stops on my side of the family. Luke's godparents have my parents and us for breakfast every year. (This is my favorite tradition.) Then to my oldest DB's Christmas night for a buffet with the entire clan. (Not as my fun this is DB that I have issues with.) Hohoho, grin and bear it for my parents.

WFD- Salmon for me, scallops for DH, roasted broccoli, and baked potatoes.

I think I will make some cookie dough today and keep it in the fridge till ready to bake.

Marilyn WOW that is a lot of snow. I hope you have help clearing that crap. I don't mind looking at it. I just hate clearing it.

I think the year we had a new year eve snow cleaned it out of me.:rotfl2:
That year I put up the garage door and only say white with no sky. The drift was that high. I just sat in the garage and cryed.

I hope the Liam sisters are safe.

Kathy, Bethany Sorry I think I was the jinx. I peeked at the game a couple of times last night. I should know better than to do that.:rolleyes1

Last night we had chili. Not sure what tonights dinner is yet.

Wish me luck I am going work on Alex's computer installing Windows 7 over Vista. I hope it goes without any trouble. :headache:

I woke up with a horrible pain in my neck. No there was no one else in bed, the real kind of pain in your neck :lmao:. I guess I don't know how to have the pillows under your head.:confused3

I am off to start the laundry that I didn't do yesterday then go back to the couch with the heating pad. See you all later

Good Morning! I just checked in to see if there was a Liam Sister update.

Our snowstorm was a bust! We only got a few inches but the SE part of the State got hammered.

Merle- beautiful pics! I love the snow if I am in and just looking at it, but that is a lot you are looking at!

Ann- my SA and DSIL work for a beverage company as well. They are always posted to work Christmas Eve, NYE, etc. Every Holiday is huge for this business so we all have learned to either plan around them or plan around them. Daniel would love to go out on the road for them. He said his overtime would be reduced dramatically though so if that opportunity comes about they will be looking at a cut in pay but better hours. Right now they are working until 4 or 5 in the morning every day, start on Sunday night so that the trucks can get to the stores on Monday and never get two night off in a row. I am not trying to diminish how you feel about your DH employer but unfortunately in this line travel hazards are part of the job. Do not get me started about the conditions my DH has had to haul a load in and the hills he has navigated in storms. That would curl your hair!

Lauren- Happy Belated Birthday!

I have all of my cards up on the cabinets (yes, I am one of those, I love to see them and enjoy them all Season). I have been having so much fun getting mine from all of you in the mail. Vickie- I cannot find the one I made out to you :sad2:, so another will be very late. I am so sorry. Please tell the Boy that I am with him, Pics of him would be a blast! I kept the ones I got last year and compared Ross's pic for the two years.

Welby just called, she is cleaning while Brian is out and her little Whirling Dervish just used the stove as a handhold to do chin-ups on :scared: She is going :dance3: trying to keep up with her!

I think I am going to bake some cookies for Christmas today.

Good morning!

Was hoping for an update on Becky & Laura.

Marilyn - Awesome pics!

Ann – I’ve missed you, hope all is well.

Janice – Hope the heating pad works. You didn’t jinx us, our defense has been horrible the past few weeks. If they don’t improve we won’t make it very far into the playoffs.:sad2:

WFD - Pot roast with roasted potatoes carrots & spinach.

Luckily I do not have to do my sidewalk, we pay a monthly fee that takes care of things like that. And my godson had been cleaning my car off and a neighbor came by this morning and offered his services so my DM, and that ain't dear , had him dig out mine but not hers.

Then she blithely announces to me that I am driving her to the Dr. she does billing for today and may have to drive her to work tomorrow. When I asked her why she asked me if I was going to go out and dig out her car for her. :headache::confused:

Spoke with my sister, they got back yesterday and moved their flight to tomorrow. She did say that today's flight did leave on time but that once they got to the airport they would have had no where to go. Someone she knows came in to Dulles this morning and said it took three hours just to get transport out of the terminal

On top of that they may not have even made it in to their neighborhood as nothing has been plowed yet.

DM just came in, she went out and raked the snow out from in front of her car. :sad2:

Just taking a brief drink break. I made two batches of cookie dough and stuck them in the fridge. Tollhouse and Toffee Pecan Oatmeal. I am looking online for a Cowboy cookie recipe. DM had a great one from we were kids but it seems to be lost. A couple of my DBs were talking about them on Thanksgiving so I was going ot make those for them this holiday.

I still would like to make those Oreo Truffle if I get to them. For those of you who made them...how far ahead have you made them?

I have to call and order some seafood now for Christmas Eve.

BBL.

I really need to get the cookie dough started myself so I can bake tomorrow and Tuesday but all I want to do is sit here on the computer and play.

Those oreo truffles are really quick, I think... and I don't have patience to bake  I made the "stuff" the night before and rolled them into balls and let them sit in the fridge overnight to get nice and hard before I dipped them. I would imagine you can make them days ahead if you want and then dip when you get time. As long as they are refrigerated, I don't think they'd go bad :confused3

DH golfed today, so I visited Mall of Millenia for some recreational shopping. Mom gets off soon and then we may hit a Disney park - not sure which one. I have a major sinus headache so I'm drinking a hot latte hoping it goes away soon :headache:

I posted food pics on FB last night from Tchoup Chop - everything was really tasty. I couldn't believe the families dragging in in their sweatsuits from the park, though. Most of the crowd was dressed nicely at least. I "made" DH put on khakis and he quickly pointed out all the other men in scrubby clothes and announced that was the last time this week he was dressing nicely. :headache:

Anyone know if Laura and Becky made it back home yet?

Hey all! Just got in from playing in the snow with A and T. I do not have a sled for the baby yet so he had fun being pulled and pushed around in a tote! :thumbsup2 I will try and figure out how to post pics from this laptop.

Ann/Marilyn...Can I make any cookie dough ahead? I am making tollhouse and a white chocolate cranberry oatmeal one. Are those OK to do ahead?

Ann, you can make them ahead and be sure to refridgerate. Aimee had a good idea to make that ahead.

Aimee, feel better. Tom always says that to me when I make him get dressed. He hates to get dressed up but now that he wears a suit everyday, I think that is changing a bit.

I think janice was not feeling well...I hope you feel better as well. ETA: Just read...PIT neck...you are too funny...I hope the pain is going away.

BBL!

Lauren Yes you can make the cookie dough ahead put it in ziplock so they don't pick up the frig smells and tastes.

Ann Can you post the toffee pecan recipe?:flower3:

The pain in the neck is a pain. It is getting very old. it makes drinking a diet coke near impossible without a straw.

Well the upgrade to windows 7 did well but it ate my afternoon.

We are having pizza and a salad for dinner.

WFD...maybe fried chicken from Cane's, or maybe tomato soup and grilled cheese. Tomorrow most likely red beans & rice.

Thanks for sending me the adorable pic!:goodvibes

Hi Everyone,

We did make it in safely yesterday and Greg and the kids and I were able to drive home this afternoon. Thanks for all the concern! The flight was surprisingly smooth until the descent, then we could see all the snow and ice and wind flying past us.

I think we got about a foot of snow here, but we were all plowed and cleared out when we got home. :thumbsup2 My ILs called a plow and some of our neighbors must have cleared our walk.

I'll catch up more later...now I have unpacking and all kinds of other fun chores to do.

Dinner tonight was buffalo burgers w/ cranberry stilton.

I posted video to FB from Disney & now I'm working on the photos.

Laura glad your home safely.

Glad you all made it home okay Laura.

Dinner tonight was pumpkin pancakes and sausage.
