The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

So Anabelle is at the vet. When I went outside to take her there, my car had ICE on the windshield. ICE! :faint:

Granted, not much, the defroster took care of it after a few minutes, but still....ICE! I don't DO ice!

:sad2: It could have been 18 inces of snow. ;)

Dinner tonight is rottiserie chicken and whatever else we decide to make. Made one batch of chocolate chip cookies and got a batch ready to bake. Went to the Post Office :scared1: to mail my nephew's gift and the last of my Christmas cards, then to the library to drop off a late book and to Target to pick up a few things.

They haven't called schools here yet but it looks like most of the counties around us have already for the rest of the week.

Have to do some sewing tonight and at least two more batches of cookies and hopefully one batch of Oreo Bark.

Still have a few gifts to get including an empty spice rack for my DM. For some reason that's what she wants but most of them come with the spices already in them. That means a trip to Bed Bath and Beyond tomorrow.

Hope everyone is ok...

I just wanted to thank everyone for the cards that keep coming in, it's really wonderful & I thank you so much. The family photos are just beautiful & your words of courage & strength overwhelming.

Today is baking day so dinner is take out.

Greg came home from work with another man cold.....

Vick, I posted lots of Christmas WDW video on FB...both you & "the boy" might like it:santa:

I will be back later to catch up:grouphug:

Hi y'all,

Lauren, I'm sorry I missed your birthday! :sad1: I'm a rotten friend. I hope you had a nice day.

Kathy, Hope you feel better!

I'm doing okay, had a physical therapy evaluation today, another MRI tomorrow. Trying to get the wrapping done & a couple of gifts I forgot. Feeling annoyed at family, for either not coming for Christmas Day, or asking me to change the time of the meal or not offering to bring anything. Kind of overwhelmed.

You are not a rotten friend, you have a lot going on. You are always there for me, thanks for asking, still feeling yucky. Take a step back from the hustle & bustle and remember to just be thankful to have family at this time of year. It's very sad here.:sad1:

Just got the mail and lots of cards today! My DM asked me "what did you do?" :rotfl:

Shovan- hang in there.

Going look on FB to see what else I've missed.

Hang in there...I know what you mean, but Kat has a very valid point. :grouphug:

Kathy, I know it is hard thinking of you my friend.

 Oh, Kathy.

Let me know if you need anything or just need to talk. I'm right down the street and you have my phone number.

Hi Everyone,

Sheryl, if anyone is a rotten friend it is me. I have been so busy, I have no idea what is going on around here. I am mailing my cards tomorrow.

I picked up my mail at the post office this afternoon, and I had so many cards from you. Thank you all so much for the wonderful pictures, notes, kind words...Greg hasn't looked through them yet, but I know he will be overwhelmed. You are all terrific friends.

 to anyone who needs one. I don't think I can keep up entirely right now, but I do want you all to know that I am thinking of you and I appreciate all of your friendship.

I was running around today (what else is new?) so dinner was takeout Indian food. Greg was a very happy hubby.

I'ma start fussin' at y'all!

NOBODY HERE A IS ROTTEN FRIEND!

Y'ALL HERE THAT?!? Now, SHUSH!

:grouphug:

Hmph. Y'all made the "y'all" come out. :rolleyes1

I agree with Bethany! You are all wonderful friends! I bless the day I clicked on the link to this thread! You all mean so much to me! I cherish the friendships I've made here. You've helped me through so many hard times, and I hope that I can be there for you all, too!

Sheryl - With all the health problems you've been having, you have no reason to beat yourself up! We all love you, and want you to get well!!! Don't ever apologize for not keeping up!

Kathy - I know how hard this time of year is. I have to confess that I'm having some emotional moments myself. I just have to talk myself out of them. Please know that I'm thinking about you!

Maria - I know that this is a hard time for you, too! Please try to enjoy this time. Things will work out, somehow, and before you know it, you'll be enjoying Christmas in a different way!!!

Thanks to all of you for the cards! They brighten my day!!!

Hey y'all - I didn't say what I said to get sympathy, I'm used to the holidays being like this. I said it to hopefully make Sheryl realize things aren't that bad and she has a lot to be thankful for. Love you Sheryl. Thanks you guys for being great friends.

And I didn't say what I said because I thought you were fishing for sympathy or pity. I said it because it's true!

And it goes for anybody, not just you. (Well, maybe not the down the street bit.)

Have I told you how great of a friend you are? Love you.

Well I'm so glad I'm not a rotten friend! :goodvibes

Apparently I'm just a rotten Mom & Nanny (to Chris) for expecting them to show up for my big meal. Heck I don't even need Chris, Rickie & A to eat, just show up so the child can get the bike Santa delivered. Angelina now would like me to reschedule the dinner to better accomadate their schedule of visiting! Oh sure I'm only cooking an 16 lb bone in rib roast! I'll just get up at 4 am instead of 6 to start, so she can come eat at our house & then fly off to visit Josh's extended family. Now I woudlnt be taking anything away from his parents, they went spend this past weekend there, the whole weekend I might add.

Bah humbug, my family has turned me into the grinch. So I will be busting my butt for probably 8-10 people, who will all convenietly run out before clean up time. I'm sorry I just dumped a real Christmas load of coal on y'all!

I do love getting all your cards!! Especially the ones with the cute kids!! And y'all have some very cute kids!

Say NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell them what time dinner is, assign what they bring and tell them this is it! If there is any sassy talk after that tell them you will be glad to join them at whoever invites you first from now on! Period! You let them know that Holidays are not a cakewalk for you and that if they expect you to continue the family tradition they need to cooperate. Don't ask them, tell them.

A friend of mine told me once that she and her Sis IL were so disgusted by their adult children that they decided that the four of them would go away the following year and let them all fend for themselves. I had one year like that too. :headache:

Sheryl- I am not picking on your family, this is a peeve of mine. Somehow it falls on "Mom" to manage the meal, the traditions, the work and keeping the entire family together on any given Holiday. it is a lot of work, expensive and way more time consuming emotionally and physically than we all get credit for, and yet it is an inconvenience for them :confused3 Erica said it is because "I" make it look so easy and I bet that is the case with you too. You just do it and mange to get it all done, miraculously shop for, prepare and serve a meal that befits a Holiday and them shepard them all on their way to the next stop. And then there is the cleanup :headache::headache:

This year I started assigning them all something to bring. And in Donny's case I tell him what this assignment is, determine he is not going to get it right (because he will wait until he is on his way here to take care of his assignment, discover every store is closed and come empty handed but sorry), charge him a set amount and take care of it myself. We'll see how it works this year.

Oh well, Welby brought a hot stuffed shell lunch yesterday for Buddy and her to have so dinner was sandwiches for Bud and salad and an apple for me. I have a boatload of things to get done today so we'll see if I cook. BBL!

You all have made me smile "listening" to your bickering back and forth. It does remind that we are all family. The best kind., We picked one another.

It is too early to decide dinner yet. Probably will be really simple I need to get my final final grocery list together. Wednesday night they (nasty weather people) are calling for freezing rain.:scared1:

I am bringing appetizers, corn casserole and cranberry pound cake. To my friends home Christmas eve.

That just stinks! I'm so sorry about that! If it helps any, I'm making a huge Christmas dinner for just my little family, and I can guarantee you that when it's over, everyone will disappear before helping with clean up. So, I'll be spending Christmas afternoon, doing dishes, and putting away food. Good thing I bought myself a couple of books I want as a reward for doing it all by myself!

I love you, Sheryl! If I could, I fly in to help with the clean up!!!

We are expecting a severe winter storm today. I haven't looked outside, yet, to see if it has hit or not. It's supposed to snow/rain all day today and through the morning tomorrow. I guess it will be a white Christmas for us.

Thankfully, the only place I have to go is the kids school for the Christmas Sing-In. It should last about an hour and a half. Unfortunately, it's right at Timothy's nap time, so we'll see how long we last! I get to leave right after the 4th graders, though, so that will help.

Once I'm home, I'm staying put!!! I've got presents to wrap, baking to do, and a book to finish. I wonder which one will actually get done? Stay tuned!!!

Dinner tonight will either be tuna casserole, or tomato soup and sandwiches.

Have a great day, my friends, and I'll check back later!

Will A and P be gone the entire Holiday?

Yep, they're leaving tomorrow morning and won't be back until just before New Year's. Unless their Mom changes her plans. Which we expect because she always does. That alone caused the children more anguish than anything because they would call her to ask her when she was coming home. Her answer every stinking day was "tomorrow". That drug on for four days, which had the kids in a tailspin. So, Kenny and I will miss them, but I'd rather miss them than have a repeat of her last Christmas trip without them.

And as my vent, what kind of mother agrees to leave her young children at Christmas?!? They were 9 and 12 at the time. I would have told that man that if my children couldn't go, then I wouldn't go. Ok, rant over.

Woke up with a sore throat & feeling yucky.

I hope you are feeling better today.

I just got a call from the vet. Anabelle is out of surgery and doing well. I can go get her in a few hours. :goodvibes

I'm glad she did well. It is amazing how well the dogs do after being spayed. I told the vet that if I ever had to have a hysterectomy I was going to have him do it. Especially if I would be up and going so well the next day. ;)

Wee bit Disney magic fell thru ma door today.

Post card from Mickey and the gang saying how much they miss us !!

Made my boy (and me ) smile and fill up....

How sweet! :lovestruc

Mickey is Magical:love:

Mickey might be magical, but friends are golden.

 Bless you honey. At least we split up the work.

You are not a rotten friend, you have a lot going on. You are always there for me, thanks for asking, still feeling yucky. Take a step back from the hustle & bustle and remember to just be thankful to have family at this time of year. It's very sad here.:sad1:

I have a brother I could send you. ;)

Just got the mail and lots of cards today! My DM asked me "what did you do?" :rotfl:

Just tell her you have an exciting life. ;) That's what I told the kids.

For heavens sake, it's about time! They should be helping you. In my family and Kenny's, we (the girls) try very hard to minimize what our Moms are having to do. This year, my Mom isn't cooking anything at all and Kenny's mom is making a ham. We are doing the 99 million sides and desserts and all the other "stuff". We would have made it so she didn't have to do anything, but she insisted on doing a ham. But we tried.

You all have made me smile "listening" to your bickering back and forth. It does remind that we are all family. The best kind., We picked one another.

Amen sister.

Glynis, everytime they show Utah and the mountains or the snow on TV Kenny asks if that is where you are from. It sure is beautiful out there.

Tonight's dinner is sauteed shrimp and pasta with salad and bread. Simple because I'm hoping to make my pies and dips tonight.

We did make it in safely yesterday and Greg and the kids and I were able to drive home this afternoon. Thanks for all the concern! The flight was surprisingly smooth until the descent, then we could see all the snow and ice and wind flying past us.

Glad y'all made it home! :thumbsup2

Hope your fam stays safe and warm during that storm!

Bethany - hope Anabelle is feeling better today. I was a nervous wreck when mine were all fixed!

Just checking in quickly. We did MK yesterday most of the day and the crowds were . We only did a few things and mostly just watched the "stuff" that we've never seen because we never come at a busy holiday time. Special characters, little shows, music groups, stage shows at the castle, Tiana's new show, etc. Did see the Hall of President and it was a nice redo there.

I am not feeling great, and then mom started to get sick last night :headache: Magic Kingdom actually extended their hours until midnight last night - just made an announcement inside the park :confused3 - but mom was dragging so we skipped our Ohana reservation for 915 and ate at Captn Cooks a little earlier. Did tour Bay Lake Tower and WOW I want to buy there! :yay:

I'm going most pics to FB this morning.

DH is golfing today and we're taking it easy since mom is icky. More later.
