The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Just READING this gives me the sudden urge to run out to the supermarket and make plans to hibernate all weekend. :rotfl::lmao::rotfl2:

Oh that ain't nothing, it's now up to 18 to 24 inches! :scared1:

My BFF and I went out shopping tonight. We got back here near home a little before 10 and went to have dinner at a pizza place. We were just finishing up and I looked over my shoulder to check the weather and she said it wasn't doing anything yet. Literally 30 seconds later she said "It's started" I had to run to Target and by the time we got home 20 minutes later it was sticking to the road and grass.

I am going to take pictures periodically and post them here and on FB. Here's the first one, taken 45 minutes after it started.

Good plan. So if I don't use the tire iron and just run over him AAA will make bail? Now that's good thinking Marilyn. I'll try to remember that. :rotfl:

I think they might cover you either way but always go with the car over the iron, it's easier to run someone over "accidentally". :rolleyes1

Marilyn –Stay safe!

I will! I won't set wheel to road until I absolutely have to.

Earlier tonight, as we were going about our errands, I suddenly realized that my poor sister is going to be coming home on Sunday from her trip. I called and left her a warning message on her cell phone telling her she might not be coming home Sunday. :rotfl:

Marilyn I really hope you weather people are wrong. That is a lot of snow. We got some snow last night but only a couple of inches not feet. No more peeks of grass.

I bet the stores this weekend are going to be busy. With having snow and the last weekend before christmas, I am glad I am done.

Aimee I am really angry that the doctor still hasn't gotten back with you. I wonder if he has left a message at your home?:confused3

Aimee - Glad to hear you're having a great time but I'm sad to hear about the doctor.

Marilyn - Keep posting pics of the snow if you can. Stay warm and safe please!

I'm thinking sloppy Joes and fries for the game tonight! GEAUX SAINTS! Who Dat!:cheer2:

Cool! Snow from far away! :thumbsup2 That is MY KIND of snow! :rotfl:

Something similar happened to me on Monday night. I went to run some errands and we were having more rain come in. :headache: Well I asked my friend (I ran into her while in Target with another friend) about how much more time she thought we had before it started and she estimated 1-2 hours. Um, turns out, not so much. Not 10 minutes later, she had left and texted me to buy an umbrella. We got to the door after checking out and it was just a downpour. My friend (the one I was with) and I had planned to go one more place but she told me "We don't have time. You need to go home. NOW." Ummm...okay :scared:. I was driving through a downpour the whole time :scared: while singing "I'm just a little black rain cloud, hovering over the honey tree" :rotfl2:...I SWEAR the little red radar blob was hovering over me the whole way home! By the time I got home and turned on the news, the intersections I had driven through near the Target were already underwater. :sad2:

Wendie & Gretchen - to you both. I had some crazy family issues over Thanksgiving, but they weren't that bad, and it still hurt. My brother was being insanely rude and disrespectful about every. little. thing.

Maria - Still thinking about you!

I know I'm missing stuff. I hope people on trips are having a great time!

They have now upped it to 20 to 30 inches and part of MD, including my county, are in the blizzard band.

Something tells me the kids are not going back to school until January 4th.:rotfl:

:scared:

Dsis called this morning to see what's going on, they are just going to have to play it by ear tomorrow. She and the girls are only wearing Crocs! :scared:

Here are the next two pics in the series, one at about 5:30am and the other at 10:30. The crew that takes care of our snow removal are keeping ahead of it so far.

Marilyn - Are they flying? Please remind them that they should pack some food with them, and buy water bottles past security. With weather like you're having, they may run out of food if the plane is delayed, and/or be diverted to a closed airport where no food/water is available. Yes, I know from experience. :headache:

A throw blanket is also nice to have, if possible. I got transferred to a bus from a plane once - no, TWICE - to finish the journey, and one of the buses did not have adequate heat. I was freezing with my coat on. :sad2:

Maria - she might have some Lady & the Tramp in her. :lmao: She loves to steal my food. Overall, she's a good & sweet dog, but she LOVES to take my food. Bagels, pizza, spaghetti...you name it, she wants it! :lmao:

She always buys water at the airport. I'll tell her to make sure to have food in her bag, especially for the girls and to make sure to get them drinks.

These are in the oven now, it smells so good. We've had them before and they are pretty tasty.
Walnut and Brown-sugar Rugelach

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 bar (8 ounces) cream cheese, room temperature
2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
½ teaspoon salt
2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1 cup walnuts, finely chopped
½ cup packed light brown sugar

In a food processor, blend butter, cream cheese, granulated sugar, and salt until well combined. Add flour, and pulse until a dough forms. Divide dough in half; flatten into disks, and wrap in plastic. Refrigerate until firm, at least 2 hours and up to 2 days, or freeze up to 3 months.

Preheat oven to 350*F, with racks set in upper and lower thirds. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper; set aside. In a small bowl, combine egg with 1 teaspoon water to make an egg wash.

Working with one disk at a time, place dough on lightly floured parchment paper and roll out into an 11-inch circle (about ¼ inch thick), dusting lightly with flour as needed. Using a large dinner plate as a guide, cut around dough to make a perfect circle; trim off and discard scraps. Brush circles with egg wash; dividing evenly, sprinkle with walnuts and brown sugar.

Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut each circle into 16 equal triangles. Starting from the wide end, roll up each triangle of dough; place on lined baking sheets, seam side down. Brush rolls with egg wash.

Bake until golden brown, 30-32 minutes. Transfer to wire rack to cool completely.

I think your first mention of snow had about a third of that amount as the prediction.

The red minivan - why are their windshield wipers up like that? :confused3

Lauren - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

This being the WFD thread....my friend in VA is getting snow and posting "recipes" involving snow as her FB statuses. Does anyone need instructions on how to make "snow cream"? :lmao:

And Marilyn, I think your pictures would make her drool. That is a LOT of snack out there! :rotfl:

Laura and i are sitting in the Orlando airport we are hoping to get home before this starts in our area! Right now the flight is delayed half an hour, so we will see...we had a great trip, and I'll be putting some photos up on facebook soon. Now I need to go back and read up on what you all have been doing!

WFD: assuming we get home, my Mom has some soup waiting for us. Laura and the kids are staying at my place tonight and until it is safe to travel tomorrow.

That was 3 hours ago and it doesn't even look like it was plowed or shoveled.

Bethany- FB is acting up and I couldn't get the reply to post. :headache:

FB IS acting up. I have tried several times to upload pictures of Anabelle. Not only does it NOT upload them, but it clears out the list of the photos I selected. :headache:

The prediction went from about 4 to 6 to 20 to 30 in about 36 hours.

So that they don't get stuck to the windshield.

Yum, snow cream! We could feed half of the state with what is out there. :rotfl:

I had to upload each of my photos from this morning one at a time.

It has not even let me do one at a time. And they are less than 5KB.

I don't think I've ever seen ppl put the wipers up like that for snow. I'd be more worried about them breaking being up like that. :confused3

Becky & Laura...good luck getting home!

The snow that sticks to them is not heavy enough to break them. Also if the snow at the bottom, on the window, melts and refreezes the wipers will be frozen to the window and can't be used and can be damaged.
