The What's for Dinner Thread- June 2012 (recipe index in OP)

So last night, after the snow we got freezing rain and then more snow. We did experience some thunder snow! We are supposed to get more snow tomorrow, and I am dreading it.

Tonight I had beer battered fish and chips, and cole slaw. My Donny decided I needed a girls night out and called Marisa tp arrange it . We had a blast! The boys abd kady had left over pasta casserole.

By the time I take about 2 bites, the burger has slopped everywhere and I'll be picking up the filling to shove it back on the bun. Fun to eat.

My cat is not too good again. :headache: I guess the cortisone lasts about 10 - 12 days.

Sounds so GOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your poor Kittie . I hated it when my kitty needed meds, seeing her in pain was horrible. I hope you can find the best med for your little one

Like your snow chicken, I'm fresh out. ;)
:rotfl2:

Nancy....repeat.last.sentence. :confused3 [:teeth:]
I couldn't even if I tried! ;):rotfl2::lmao:

I made a beef and barley soup, and would love to have that for dinner. I did promise to fix hot dogs with fried peppers and onions for Buddy, but I hope he changes his mind. I am doing homework, and (well I have my computer opened to do homework) and don't feel like going back to the stove. It is snowing her, and I am sulking!

Allison- one of the loveliest meals I have ever had was at the Disneyland Hotel. My niece was a CM and so my sister and I went out to visit her. Her fiance was stationed at Camp Pendleton, and came up for a visit, so we took them there for dinner. It was so good!

Alison - How was dinner?

Nancy - Beef and barley soup sounds great; especially if it's snowing outside.

Brandi - I so agree with you. All this fad dieting is keeping the book industry ticking over. How's your fruit and veg going?

Kimmar - Hope you're still staying warm.

 Hi everyone else!

We have hit week 3 of the Quit sugar diet. I've been told this is the week to start cutting out fruits. I think I might just ignore that bit. So far, except for day 2 and 3, it's been a very easy diet to stick with for me. I haven't missed sugar at all; which is probably a good sign that I didn't really have a lot of it to begin with. We've also been diligently checking the food labels and I've swapped out stuff with over 4% sugar (4 g per 100 g of food) with equivalent product with less sugar. That's when I've noticed the taste difference.

It's meant that we've had a bit more focus on fresh food and having more veg, salad and protein in our meals. That's a good thing.

WFDT? We're doing a leek and carrot quiche and salad. I'm pretty lucky in that we have a local bakery that does great quiche. We just need to heat it up in the oven. Easy meal!

Have a great day all.

PIO- I commend you for quitting sugar.Between you and brandi, I am humbled, I have no will power lately. Keep up the good changes!!!

I have to tell you the soup is in the fridge and I made Buddy hot dogs, home fried potatoes, and fried onions and peppers with grilled buns. He has had no appetite, and eats just because he has to. This is the first time he enjoyed a meal, and asked for seconds. It really was nice. We can hve the soup with crusty bread tomorrow for lunch, and well see if he is craving something or dinner.

That's always a good sign that he's feeling better. I hope the headaches have gone away.

Maybe I can post pics of the dinner. It was very special. I got very full. They sent us home with a box of ghiradelli Valentine chocolates.

Good job on the diet PIO. I really don't eat that much sugar, just drink it in my wine.

So glad that Buddy enjoyed his meal. Asking for seconds is a definite sign of improvement.

We are doing eat24 for dinner and ordering online on our way home. Olga (the kitty who is going to have her own wing in the new house) had an elevated liver reading on here CBC yesterday. The doctor called us at 6PM (as they were slammed with emergencies all day) so we dropped what we were doing and brought her out for an injection of antibiotics. Hopefully it's just an infection, but it coukd be more serious which would be tragic.

Thanks for the slop burger explanation. I know about the eggs on the burgers and don't the Kiwis take it a step further and add sliced beets?

Thanks girls, for Buddy's well wishes! He is feeling better, and the headaches have improved. He is using Tylenol to manage them, and while they never go away, they are not debilitating anymore. The meds he was prescribed had him hallucinating! Marisa is coming over with yet another addition to his BP pile of stuff, so we can talk about dinner when she gets here.

Kady has been buying treats for her Pa and he has been eating them. No idea if he really wanted them, but he has told me that blueberry pie works wonders for getting rid of that horrible taste that he has had since the surgery.I get it! :thumbsup2 Nola and Rylee want to bring him their valentines today. He did not feel well yesterday ( voices echo in his head) so we put it off. I have no idea if Rylee made him one, she has refused to make him cards and gifts (she pulled out a random cookbook on my shelf and told him she got him a present, just for him :lmao::lmao:) Nola has been annoyed for three weeks! :rotfl:

Allison- I hope your kitty is okay!

PIO- How is your kitty doing today?

KImmar- we got a few inches yesterday too. Not too much thankfully! but I am so over Winter! Buddy cannot fly for a while, but he wants to know when he can...he wants warm! and Snowfree!

Afternoon Everyone,

2 Days, I am out of here on Tuesday....

Nancy - I am so glad Buddy is doing better, keeping him in my prayers.

PIO - I have not started the Fruit and veggie yet, when I get back from the cruise, I will start, So March 2nd is the start of the 6 week detox!

Last night was veggie pizza, and tofu pudding, which David loved

Nancy - We have her on some natural cortisone tablets. She seems to be better. We're back at the vet on Tuesday; so we'll see.

Brandi - 2 more days!! Is it your next vacay?

I didn't end up having dinner last night. I was so full from breakfast and lunch that I just wasn't hungry. So the quiche is in the fridge and that'll be dinner tonight. The boys ended up making pasta for themselves last night. The quiche will be great and an absolute timesaver today. It's going to be a busy afternoon with DS having a few activities on and I'm the designated driver today.

If I don't catch you, have a great week.

Today was busy, we hit Pet Smart, Sam's, Costco and Home Depot. Yesterday Fran did a lot of planting and digging before we cleaned out the instrument room and dropped things off at storage (where we got the call about Olga). After that we dropped everything and took care of her at the vet. We spent the rest of the night with take out in her apartment just spending time with her, in case it may be some of our last.

Because of yesterday and today's busy activities Fran is asleep and I can post a little before I get dinner ready. Besides the skirt steak hasn't thoroughly thawed for me to season it to make fajitas.

Here is our lasagna dinner at my folks. If you remember mom made spaghetti sauce the first night, but I was so sick of spaghetti as it has been my "goto" dinner on tired nights since I have individual baggies of the same recipe frozen in the freezer.

We had plans to visit the Star Wars exhibit at the San Jose Tech Museum on Tuesday night so Monday we put the lasagna together so we only had to bake it on Tuesday in case we spent too much time at the musesum. Turns out we only spent about 2-3 hours touring the museum and had lunch at McCormick and Schmick's across the street from the museum so we weren't hungry until late. That was good because we began watching "The Phantom Menace" around 5:30PM so we got a good chunk of the movie watched before we were ready for dinner.

Here was the lasagna "pre cooking"

And the finished version

Mom made some garlic bread and Caesar salad to go along with the lasagna.

It was a great dinner! with no work and then we finished the movie. 1 down out of 5 that we need for our SWW homework!

OK, so hopefully I can quickly post our Valentine's experience here. I don't have much to say about it other than everything was absolutely wonderful and for one of the first times, we were so full from the wine and food that we actually left wine and took home food! But here are the highlights!

We met Prince Edward(?) and Sleeping Beauty on our way in.

We were shown to our table.

The room was very decorated

They had a piano player trickling out romantic music.

Our menu

The Salad

The Scallops were wonderful

I started to get completely full at this course.

But I still found room to eat this

We took these home, along with roses and have been eating them over the last couple days.

Great dinners, Alison! I love that dessert; and everything else. The lasagna dinner looks right up my alley right now.
You look great in that red dress. Such a great colour on you.

You're watching 1 out of 5 movies? Aren't there 6 movies? Was that just a typo or are you deliberately not watching one?

OK, so I guess I really meant 5 more to go. I'm tired. We both fell asleep after we ate the fajitas and I just woke up. I have to feed the cats and then we need to go to sleep for real. Definitely a long day when we fall asleep in our chairs at least both of us!

Good night!

Happy Monday, meatless Monday and Presidents day!

Last night for dinner was grilled chicken breast and collard greens!

Getting last minute items finished today! and I will workout in the morning, then pack and then drive to the cruise port. I will be back Sunday the 2nd of March! Whoop!
