The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Poor Mom  Brides GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! And then they forget that they were brides! Selective memory if you ask me.

Aimee- I would never post this if DDIL was still reading to see what we were having for dinner, but................I cried after my DS wedding and my poor DH (we paid for the wedding, her mother went on vacation so she could not help) told me that night that that money was down the drain. Somehow it all works out and all these :confused3 that Brides have wear off after the wedding. Give your Mom a hug for me and tell her that your sister will forget all of this and think that everything was perfect and everyone had a wonderful time, everyone was included and noone else planned such a fun event. Then tell your Mom I am heading to AK so we can commiserate on weddings and kids!

What time is dinner? :cloud9:

I know.....this lady can cook!

Now you've done it! When we went to Myrtle Beach I think we ate our way up and down the Strand. The food was awesome but my favorite was the chicken fries steak and gravy. And the sausage gravy and biscuits and the gravy. Now I want biscuits and gravy with some chicken fried steak!

He's doing a bit better. I think we'll soon be able to "talk openly" about that situation we spoke about!:goodvibes It's been killing me.

I really shouldn't have said anything but if you think about it we've talked about it too. It's almost official and then I can say more. I'm sorry I don't want anyone to feel left out.:guilty:

I think I missed something. Don't worry, I am not feeling hurt, I just know I cannot keep up.

Ok, rice. My girlfriends Grandma makes black beans & rice with chunks of chorizo it is amazing! I was having a food fantasy when I typed it earlier! I really need to get a life:rotfl:
When I was little my Grandma used to make regular white rice & put a giant pat of butter on it for me, that was pure heaven...she also used to make a pork roast stuffed with wild rice. If there was wild rice left over she would mix that into homemade stuffing & put it in a roasting chicken......nothing like double carbs:lovestruc

Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

If anyone wants the details on what I can't post publicly about please PM me, it's all good!

Hopefully, he heard today that he passed the mountain phase and is on to swamp. His last letter said that he got injured falling down a slope, so he failed something due to the injury. After that, he was able to get some medical attention, and he felt good going into this week. I'll let you know if I hear more.

I'm so sorry, I missed this too. Please keep us updated and I will keep him in my prayers.

Sorry I do remember & apologize for butting in!

You weren't butting in silly!:goodvibes

That sounds amazing!

I have no idea WFD. I can, however, assure you that I will not be "scrounging up" anything like liamsaunt!

So, being that it's now MAY (WHERE is the year GOING?!?), I technically move NEXT MONTH! ____ <<< not sure what smiley to put there. I need one that combines the following:

:goodvibes:scared1::woohoo::yay::scared::faint: :cool1:

I must have missed this post with all the gravy talk ;) but seriously girl, after all you have told us about the school where you work I can't believe a move would cause you to even bat an eye. :rotfl: You must be counting down the days/hours/minutes.

Let me know if you find the veal and where. Gretchen, that sounds so darn good!

Kenny thought so. He said he smelled it when he got out of his truck tonight and said he thought "Lord please let that smell be coming from my house." :rotfl: I do love that man.

I'm glad Kenny likes his sloppy po-boy! The sloppier the better!

Turkey gravy WITH giblets! But boiled egg? That's a new one on me!

He does love that po boy and said that I was to thank you again. As for the boiled egg, I know it sounds strange, but the families around here add a chopped boiled egg or two to the giblet gravy. I don't know why exactly, I think by now it just may be tradition.

Yeah.....and I can't even say everything on here. I'm actually not particularly freaked out, I just have a lot to do and it's down to just over 8 weeks!

It's going to work out. :goodvibes

And yes, I believe we're at 38 kid days + 1 professional day. :thumbsup2

Ladies, I'm doing my last minute packing/to do lists before we leave next Saturday. Does anyone want me to pick up anything from WDW while I'm there?

No thanks, just take us (PLEASE)!

No, but thanks for the offer! :goodvibes

I do just have to point out...that is NOT last minute packing!

We have room. Come on down. It is just the 4 of us (me, Kenny, Hailey and 1 therapist who didn't want to be left behind) in a 2BR at SSR.

Room for me too !!!!!!!????? Have a great trip. So glad you got good news for your Dad. :thumbsup2

Oh my what a wordy group today. I am not even going to try to absorb all of this now my brain feels like mush. Just wanted to send a quick "Hello" to you all!!!

Yup....she made her own wine for their wedding and she won't drink white wine. It was a tough decision but someone has to drink all that wine so I agreed to help her out.

You are so generous! ;)

Aimee -- I am sorry your mom is having a tough day. Hopefully, the wedding will be beautiful and everyone can forget the stuff that came before it.

He said he smelled it when he got out of his truck tonight and said he thought "Lord please let that smell be coming from my house."
:rotfl:

I do just have to point out...that is NOT last minute packing!

She is so right.

Sheryl -- I meant to say earlier that the sweet potato fries were from a package, but they are a pretty good brand, oddly enough, named Alexis.

Kathy -- No idea what you are talking about, but I hope it is good.

I have good news. Greg passed the mountain phase and is moving on to swamp. I only got to talk to him for two minutes today, but he said he is feeling much better. Thank you all for the good wishes and prayers!

Our day tomorrow starts with a baseball clinic at 8 am. We also have a two hour skating practice, a one hour gymnastics class, a baseball game, and a birthday party. My mom is helping me out because the baseball and skating overlap.

I don't know what is for dinner...I don't even know when we will be able to eat! I probably won't be able to check in again until Sunday night, so have a good weekend everyone!

You've already got my order, but since you've got so much room maybe I'll come along.;)

I really want to apologize to everyone. I kinda blurted out something that I can't talk about just yet and I really didn't mean to make it sound like a certain few people were in on it. That was not intentional. The folks that I've talked to on the phone know what's going on and that's it. It's not a huge deal and again I apologize to all of you.:grouphug:

Almost forgot to mention, any Kentucky Derby fans here? Kyle is good friends with the jockey riding I Want Revenge. His name is Joe Talamo and he dropped out of high school to pursue his passion and has done very well for himself.

You're too kind - thanks :goodvibes She was calmer when I left tonight for my hotel. Hope the alcohol did the trick :thumbsup2

That's how it is done here, too.

Don't worry about apologizing to me :goodvibes

The rehearsal dinner was a little uncomfortable but we made it okay. The bridal party was all really late, so we didn't even get dinner until after 9pm. The food was 'eh' but service was good. Because the wedding is near his hometown, I kid you not there were 35 of his family/friends there and 6 of us. More of our family are coming tomorrow but they didn't drive in tonight. We didn't even really talk to my sister at all :confused3

It's 1:45 in the morning and everytime I roll over to sleep, the AC in the room kicks off and I can hear the guy next door arguing with his ex on a cell phone. They've been at it almost an hour. I thought about calling the front desk but he's in his room, and is not yelling, so he's not really doing anything wrong :confused3

I apologize for my weepiness yesterday. I was just really feeling alone. It made me feel better knowing you guys weren't angry at me or anything. Except for one post which truly had me in tears this morning (thanks, I've officially been taken down a peg), I'm feeling better and thanks for the kind words.

Jan's sores are doing better and she's speaking easier. Still not sure when she's going to get to come home.

Kevin and Amanda are having a quick ceremony today and leaving for Hawaii I think tomorrow. I won't be going, but Scott is. It's raining cats and dogs and I will have to trudge through a swamp to get into the house they will be at. It is very diffcult to clean muddy wheelchair tires, not to mention I will track mud and sludge into their house. I talked to Amanda about it yesterday and they totally understand.

Anyway, I have to go get my grocery list and such ready. Everyone have a good day!

What a rainy miserable day here!

We have my nephew's first communion party tonight. So I really do not have to cook. Looks like it is going to be a lazy day and maybe I will catch up on some interesting reading here on the DIS.

Good Morning!

I have not been able to catch up but hope to do so later. I need to do a few things and then hopefully have some down time. I hope everyone is well...I have been saying an extra prayer for all of you lately.

Gretchen, great news about Dad. Continued prayers.

********

Lindsay, I am really not sure what to say...I am sorry that you are feeling alone and weeping lately but when you come on here very seldomly lately, post updates about yourself but not catch up with us, how do you expect us to form and bond or a friendship? You post things, then delete them..., hardly ever post WFD but then do on Facebook. It all seems like a game to me.

I am the first to admit, I pop in lately and miss alot but I try to read back and send good thoughts.

I am very glad that your MIL is doing well. I just saw the toll that cancer had on my brother and it really sucks but life must go and I must be strong for my family. There are many times when I feel like curling up in the corner and crying but I simply cannot...I guess past sessions of therapy have taught me how to be a stronger person and deal with life's curveballs.

I am sorry if I overstepped my bounds here but I had to get it off my chest. To have a friend means to be a friend...please remember that.

Good morning! We have awoke to a beautiful sunny day. :worship:

My friend and I went and bought some plants from the local boy scout troup yesterday. I need to plant them today and hunt out some more herbs to round out my yard. I'm hoping to grow most of our veggies this year to cut down on costs.:thumbsup2

Kathy How is Kyle doing lately are his ribs feeling a little better?

Well ladies I think I have a date tomorrow.:scared: wish me luck. I meet someone who seems really nice. It would be nice to go out once in a while. Alex will be doing the same someday.

I better get myself busy or nothing will get done

You've already got my order, but since you've got so much room maybe I'll come along.;)

Come on! The only requirement is you must be able to tune out the Blue's Clues and/or Teletubbies that will be playing almost constantly from Hailey's TV. And you must be willing to be at her beck and call. ;) She thinks that everyone who is with her must be there to serve her every need. She is at that developmental age when she still thinks that it is an honor to be selected to be the one to fill her juice cup, etc. I can't tell you how many of our friends who have had a sucker shoved into their hands to be opened or a juice cup given to them to be filled. But she isn't shy. :lmao:

I would send some if I could figure out how. Can you believe in all those trips to the park I've never actually eaten one myself. Maybe this is the trip when I need to get one.

Sorry about your neighbor. That is always my luck in hotels too. I always end up wishing I had packed a fan for the white noise or end up taking Advil PM to knock me out.

Thanks to everyone for sharing in my joy about Daddy. We are all really glad to have received some good news. If he is up to it, we are supposed to go over this afternoon for a visit and to have dinner. His appetite isn't the greatest, but if he feels up to it, Kenny is going to grill some steaks and I'll make some queen anne potatoes (one of Dad's favorites). If not, I'm not sure what Kenny and I will be having. Hailey will have her one of her usuals. A & P are with their mother.

Happy Saturday everyone.
