The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Merle, you and Kenny would get along just fine. :thumbsup2 As a matter of fact, one of his new favorites is the new orleans po boys that Sheryl and Kat mentioned. When he realized I could make him a sandwich WITH gravy, well now, that boy was in heaven.

:rotfl:

Kenny thought so. He said he smelled it when he got out of his truck tonight and said he thought "Lord please let that smell be coming from my house."

:rotfl::rotfl:

Ladies, I'm doing my last minute packing/to do lists before we leave next Saturday. Does anyone want me to pick up anything from WDW while I'm there?

Umm...an all expenses paid vacation package for me? KIDDING!! :) This is a great time of year to go to Disney, weather wise. You must be really excited!

Almost forgot to mention, any Kentucky Derby fans here? Kyle is good friends with the jockey riding I Want Revenge. His name is Joe Talamo and he dropped out of high school to pursue his passion and has done very well for himself.

Me! I love watching the Derby, though I do feel badly when horses get hurt. I Want Revenge is the favorite, right? My family always does a bet on the races--we bet $1 on the Derby, $2 on the Preakness, and $3 on the Belmont Stakes. Of course, the kids always get to pick first, and they always choose the horses with the best odds, so they win every time!

Here are photos of last night's dinner. I grilled a steak for John. Now, I have to tell you that I plated the entire porterhouse to take a nice picture for you. He was not supposed to eat more than half. However, we got to talking and I stopped paying attention, and he sneakily ate the entire thing! He is in big trouble! I think I am going to make him eat tofu for dinner tonight.

I grilled myself a chicken breast.

Not sure WFD yet. I am just hanging out waiting for my new refrigerator to be delivered, and then I'll go to the food store and find something.

I apologize for my weepiness yesterday. I was just really feeling alone. It made me feel better knowing you guys weren't angry at me or anything. Except for one post which truly had me in tears this morning (thanks, I've officially been taken down a peg), I'm feeling better and thanks for the kind words.

Jan's sores are doing better and she's speaking easier. Still not sure when she's going to get to come home.

Kevin and Amanda are having a quick ceremony today and leaving for Hawaii I think tomorrow. I won't be going, but Scott is. It's raining cats and dogs and I will have to trudge through a swamp to get into the house they will be at. It is very diffcult to clean muddy wheelchair tires, not to mention I will track mud and sludge into their house. I talked to Amanda about it yesterday and they totally understand.

Anyway, I have to go get my grocery list and such ready. Everyone have a good day!

I'm so sorry that you can't make it to the ceremony! I know that really bums you out. It's great that you already have a good relationship with Amanda! That will totally help out in the future.

It's raining here, too. Makes me feel a bit gloomy, and I don't have anything to feel gloomy about.

Good morning! We have awoke to a beautiful sunny day. :worship:

My friend and I went and bought some plants from the local boy scout troup yesterday. I need to plant them today and hunt out some more herbs to round out my yard. I'm hoping to grow most of our veggies this year to cut down on costs.:thumbsup2

Kathy How is Kyle doing lately are his ribs feeling a little better?

Well ladies I think I have a date tomorrow.:scared: wish me luck. I meet someone who seems really nice. It would be nice to go out once in a while. Alex will be doing the same someday.

I better get myself busy or nothing will get done

Hooray for a date! That's exciting! I hope you have a great time, and come back and tell us all about it. How's Alex doing with the news that you have a date?

Good morning! It's raining here, and pretty cold. We were planning on putting our garden in today, but I don't think that will happen. We did manage to get some potatoes planted yesterday, and we've got the strawberries moved to their new patch. The garden area is all tilled and ready for the plants, so we just need to sun to peek through the clouds and dry things off somewhat!

Alan and I went out last night for Thai food. I had the best Pad Thai ever, and Alan had a "meh" curry. He was wanting to eat off my plate, but I don't share if the other entree is not worth my time! He was so disappointed. I did order him an appetizer of chicken skewers, so he was fine after a while. He was just disappointed that I ordered the Pad Thai. That's usually what he gets.

I'm making blueberry pancakes this morning, and then I'm sending everyone downstairs to clean the basement while I deep clean the refrigerator. It's beyond scary! That's my big job for the day. If we can get it clean, and the basement picked up, we'll take the kids to a movie or something. Dinner tonight will probably be chili or something equally comforting and warm!

typing while holding baby...nothing is better than these playtex bottles that have a hole in the bottom...fits the chin nicely for hands free feeding!!!:rotfl::lmao:

kat, good luck to kyle friend! i would love to go to the derby someday...i want to wear a big hat!!! my neice wants to go someday too...she is the one that is going to upenn to equine vet school. i will have a neice that is a dr!!! already have 2 that are engineers....yeah! maybe my 2 will be ambitiuos (sp) like that too.

Janice, that is great! I hope it goes well and you have a good time.

:rotfl: You must have missed the part about Hailey expecting everyone to be her personal butler/cook/girl friday. Believe me, that girl would make you work for your trip. ;)

I hope your new refrigerator comes soon. I know you are sick and tired of having to deal with the little one. When mine died a year or so ago I was ready to pull my hair out.

We have my nephew's first communion party tonight.

Have a great time and congrats to your nephew!

He's doing a little bit better. It would really help if he'd do what the Dr told him to do. I think he's used the heating pad once since Monday, then he complains that he's not getting better.:rolleyes1

Good luck on the date, how exciting!!! I want details woman!

Come on! The only requirement is you must be able to tune out the Blue's Clues and/or Teletubbies that will be playing almost constantly from Hailey's TV. And you must be willing to be at her beck and call. ;)

Now you're in real trouble, I'm coming! Don't you remember how taken I was with her.:cloud9:

Me! I love watching the Derby, though I do feel badly when horses get hurt. I Want Revenge is the favorite, right?

Yep, he's the favorite. The jockey's story is amazing. He dropped out of high school after 10th grade to pursue his dream. Kyle said all the teachers and the principal tried to tell him he was making a huge mistake. While pursuing his jockey career he proceeded to get his GED and discovered he also had a knack for something else - real estate. Well he is now worth over a million and owns 5 houses in Louisiana!

I have a thing for gray horses, love them! So, unfortunately, I'll be pulling for Dunkirk today!

That grilled steak has my mouth watering!

WFD - Grilled shrimp with chipotle bbq sauce, black bean and brown rice pilaf and a salad!

Have a great day all!

I haven't mentioned anything to Alex since it is only one date. I not trying to hide anything just I don't want to rock his world yet. His doesn't quite get that Mom's need adult time. That might just send him running for the hills :rotfl2: He is just starting to notice girls checking him out and not running the other way

Thanks for the support I'm a little nervous but it will be a a familar place and casual both good things in my book

Gretchen I didn't know Hailey likes blue clues. That was Alex's favorite. OOOH I can still hear that in my head :scared1: Have a great time Have a mickey krispie for me (ears first)

Lauren I agree the Derby sounds fun,but no hat for me. Hats and I don't get along:rolleyes1 but a mint julep sounds just up my alley.:thumbsup2

Ok for real this time I must get my work done or not play time for me.

Lauren I just love the picture of the baby in the basket. :rotfl2: Ok the picture of the 2 brothers is really cute to. You can tell A loves his brother.

Great pics Lauren! The one of T in the basket is ADORABLE!!!!!! I agree, the one of T & A is priceless....

mint juleps sound fun!!!

i gotta get going too...i dont have an excuse anymore tom is sleeping...

Good Morning! i am going to try to do this without the multiquote thing.....I know I am going to miss something I want to say

Janice WOO HOO :cheer2::cheer2: Have a great time! Alex will be fine, just wait and see. It is funny how kids are especially when they are noticing that the opposite sex is there. WHere are you going?

Marisa and her girlfriends thought that I had no life, they were about 12 or 13. One day I came home and my bed was loaded up with clothes....all donated from their closets.....they had taken a collection of their favorites in order to spice me up so I would finally have a date. Generous creatures they were :lmao:. Picture a 30 odd year old woman wearing clothes that very young teenagers would wear.....but they figured it would solve my problem.

Gretchen- I would love to come.....and I already know the Blues Clues songs.....Nola likes the music so I dvr'ed evey show so it is on in the background a lot. I will also volunteer to spend time with her in the hot tub if she will share her Krispy Kremes :goodvibes. Seriously, thanks for the offer to sop, I think we are all set but I am totally jealous of you right about now.

Last minute packing my foot......:lmao::lmao::lmao:COme to my house.......that is last minute packing

Enjoy dinner with your Dad

Kathy- Don't even think about apologizing......you could never offend anyone! I am going to continue to build up all kinds of stories in my own mind (it does not take much to keep me amused) and when you can share Kyles news then you will share it. In the meantime....try to get him well in spite of himself ;) How are you feeling?

Laura- I'm tired already! I don;t know how you do it, when Gail's kids were younger I usd to take some to their activities. There was no way she could get them in all those directions at the same time. Thank goodness your Mom can help out. COngrats to Greg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Becky- Buddy would drool! I seldom cook red meat because his cholesterol was high so he feels deprived to begin with. Then I usually buy a sirloin instead of the more marbled cuts because he will not agree to have just a normal size...he will eat all that I cook... so I try to compensate that way. He is a man in heaven if I buy him a really good steak....

Lindsay- I'm sorry that you will miss the ceremony but I agree that you really do not have any choice. I'm glad that Amanda is thoughtful of this as well.

Lauren- what great pictures! I love the baby Bunny in he basket :goodvibes and it is obvious that Andrew loves his brother.

Now I want to buy a big hat and join you all sipping julips and watching the ponies

Aimee- You got through the tough part and your Mom survived with a little liquid courage. Enjoy the rest of th wedding weekend!

Maria- How are you doing today? Id reg feeling better too?

Sheryl- I am still thinking about Angelina and hopeing it all works out. What are their NYC plans?

Dinner to be announced. I want to go out, Buddy not so much. We'll see once I get to the store, I have not gone in over a week and we have like almost no more TP.....no avoiding the shopping trip now!

Good morning!

I thought I posted here earlier but don't see it, so I guess not. I post in too many places and forget what I say where and when. :headache:

I woke up at 5 this morning with grand intentions to start packing and cleaning and all that, but a migraine sent me right back to bed and I just got up again.

:grouphug: Big hug to all who need it....seems like mostly everybody on this thread lately!

I'm off to deal with this mess; most years I'd just leave it for summer but this year the clock is ticking!

Bethany- is the migraine gone?

We are in the same mess, just different reasons. I am going nowhere....I am cleaning.....and have no interest.....and an a clutter bug. You have a great incentive and I cannot wait for you to be out of that system and down the street from out lovely Nola gals!

It's mostly gone. :goodvibes I'm also a clutter bug. Trying to get that out of my system because I don't like it. I took a bookshelf apart weeks ago and since then, the stuff has been all over the floor and I am tired of tripping over it. I was feeling like I was going to try to get some scrapbooking done but clearly that is not going to happen until July at the earliest, so it's getting boxed up now!

I can't wait to be out of this system either. Incidentally, some teachers that left my school last June ended up at a school about 10 blocks away from mine this year. A friend from my school ran into one of them on the train the other day, and she says it's TOTALLY different there because the administration actually *appreciates* the teachers. So apparently all schools are NOT like mine (who knew?!? :confused3) even within NYC. (Which I KNEW, but a lot ARE like mine, and transferring carries that risk of hit or miss...)

Anyways...back to the boxes. :headache:

I would send some if I could figure out how. Can you believe in all those trips to the park I've never actually eaten one myself. Maybe this is the trip when I need to get one.

I never had one until my last trip! I'm not a big "sweet" person - I dig the popcorn more. But it was a beautiful day and this kid walked past with one. My colleague said "yummmm, I want one of those" so I ordered one too and was hooked! They are different than bars in the grocery store. The chocolate is dark and really thick. The ice cream is solid so it doesn't melt all over you. We had one Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday that week.

for those of you that do not have facebook...here are a couple pic

*squeal!!!!!!!!!!!*

Lindsay - I'm sorry you're feeling left out, but I can honestly say that after awhile of noticing that you rarely responded to anyone else's posts about life in general, especially not mine, I stopped responding to yours. Perhaps that was an underhanded thing to do but a friendship goes both ways and I felt like I was wasting time responding to your posts and offering encouragment and advice when I was never even acknowledged by you :confused3 I have read your posts, and Jan continues to be in my prayers, I just stopped taking time to respond each time. Jump in and comment on some of the lives of others on here. I haven't been on this thread as long as you but I have made some genuine friendships with these women and appreciate their concern for me and I value having the opportunity to offer hugs and advice for their concerns.

The wedding reception is catered BBQ this afternoon so I doubt we'll eat anything, maybe once we get home. My dogs have been heathens for the dogsitter but I'm still anxious to see them :lovestruc

Aimee To bad you won't be able to eat any of that food. Hopefully there will be something for you. Dogs are great that way. They know just when to bring out their good manners ;)

I still have not had a mickey bar though I have not meet any ice cream that I didn't like/love.:rolleyes1

I am taking a break from cleaning.

This morning I ran out to Lowes to get some herbs before they all dissappear. I found Thai basil I am soo excited. It smells so good. It has a very small leaf and smells different from regular basil.
