The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

Tonight was cheese burger, made with buffalo meat.

Tomorrow is still up in the air.

Good Monday morning Girls!
Ellen- Buddy never did take Kady out. Marisa had an horrific day at work so we had her order pizza and they came over to us.

We did take Nola and Rylee, Maris and Kady out for Valentines Day dinner on Friday. Nola chose Longhorn Steakhouse. Rylee pouted. We told her she can choose next time...Red Robin Yummmmmm@ LOL!
I had a great trip to see Deb. We changed our plans though, and met her 1/2 way at a Raptor rehabilitation center in Quechee. There was snow moving in in her area on Sunday and we could not chance getting stuck there. UI have payroll that needs to be run, and Marisa has two full days of auditors here. WE had a great time though. Lunch was at a little pizza place with 40 craft beers on tap. we had pizzas, fries and I had an organic local wine. SO good!

The raptor exhibit was really informational. such a great day!

Last night I roasted a chicken and Buddy and I had dinner in front of the fireplace.

Tonight is ham steak, roasted sweet potatoes, and a veggie.

I hope all is well with all of you. I can see a light at the end of our Winter Tunnel so Spring is on the way!!!

Is buffalo similar to Bison? I buy bison for Buddy once in a while, but I am not fond enough of it to pay the cost for myself. I will have a ground beef burger when I get them for him.

....what was for dinner last night? Roast turkey [and gravy], risotto, corn, and broccoli.....WFDT? I'm mixing all those leftovers [sans the risotto and replacing it with a little bit of mashed potatoes] and making a GF turkey pot pie....I won't be having a kitchen for the next 3 or 4 weeks when the demo starts tomorrow....

Nancy, it is exactly the same just used a different name. To me it is just less fatty and helps when I want a burger, once every 6 to 8 months the cost is not to bad.

Yikes!! WE did this demo thing 1 yes ago and I still remember how that was. We had appliances for the mot part, but who wants to cook and eat in a mess?

Got it! I find it a little more gamey. I don't quibble the price of food, but since I am not overly fond I save the money and buy myself beef when I want a burger.

.....thank goodness for the microwave.....since my DH has Celiac, I can't 'do' as much take-out as I'd like.....

I understand. I tried to cook as much as possible, but it was awkward at best, and many days impossible. We did a full expansion of the living area of our home, so demo'ed it all and rebuilt. It was awful going through it, but worth it in the end. I will commiserate with you along your journey!

....well, I was hoping that this demo would have been part of our 1st-floor demo back in May/June, but, unfortunately, my DH had been in the middle of a big whole-home renovation for a client, following by a house flip, so, our kitchen/dining room renovation was put on the back burner.....

....plus, it's only February and it's still fairly cold in this part of the country, so I am limited with using our grill....

Kim, I hope your remodel goes smoothly. I know it was crazy when my parents ddid it.

Glad you had a nice visit this weekend Nancy!

I'm really going through Disney food withdrawl. Saturday we had Le Cellier Cheese soup. Last night I make Chicken Parmesan and risotto (a la DCL's Palo restaurant). Only 4 days til we leave and 5 days til we're on the ship!

Tonight's dinner is a Chile Rellanos casserole. Fran found this recipe in one of our many cookbooks.

Today we need to pick out clothes to pack on Thursday!

I hope your DH gets better soon, Kim.

Well it's less than 48 hours until our plane takes off! I have a million things to do and I'm just sitting here finishing my coffee before I start to do them! Tonight we were going to have a pork tenderloin with apples and sage, but this morning I scrapped that for one of those "skillet meals in a bag". It's bow ties, chicken and spinach in Alfredo Sauce, I might add some more chicken and spinach. I keep these around for nights when I'm too tired or feeling the pressure (like today!)

I probably won't be checking in here much so I'll just tell you about tomorrow too. I'm going to throw a frozen pizza in the oven for dinner tomorrow night. I just hope that we can get all packed at a reasonable hour. My clothes are hanging in the closet of the spare bedroom and all my undergarments are set aside. Today is "get out the suitcases" day and put all the stuff that doesn't wrinkle inside them! Plus I have to make up both our pills for the next two weeks, change the batteries in her scooter, and pick up a few things at the grocery store and pharmacy. Then I need to make sure there is enough cat food in the cupboard for the cat sitter. OK, no more time here. Gotta go!

....already delayed by a few days....DH has been sick with a fever....:sad2:

Oh no!! I hope that he gets well soon!

Allison- I wish you and Fran safe travels and a wonderful time!!!

Well last night dinner was leftover breaded chicken and veggies for me. Buddy had a meeting to attend yesterday, and it seems he ate late, (mostly chocolate cake!) so he did not want dinner. He had ice cream. I give up!! LOL!

Tonight we are having hot chicken and gravy sandwiches with the leftover roasted chicken I had on Sunday night. I have leftover veggies in the fridge, so I plan to have them. Buddy will not...its broccoli. I made a pumpkin spice and raisin cake this afternoon, so we can have that for dessert.

I am so looking forward to Saturday night! Buddy got tickets for us and for Donny and Anna to go see Gaelic Storm at the Calvin Theater in NorthHampton. This group is the group that played at the Irish dance party in the movie Titanic. We are joining a coworker of Buddy's and his wife and friends for dinner first. A place called Paisano's, so I'm thinking Italian? LOL!!

Oh Kimmar, that's awful!

The cake was awesome. You know I cannot follow a recipe to save my life, so this is what I did:

1 spice cake
1 package pumpkin pie instant pudding mix
1 can f pumpkin
4 eggs
1/3 cup oil
about 1/2 cup sour cream
a few tablespoons applesauce
golden raisins

I used a demarle pan to bake, it took about 50 minutes at 350 degrees

So good!

Dinner was not what I proposed. Buddy wanted leftover ham steak sandwiches, so I just finished the breaded chicken and broccoli
WFDT? I don't know!
