The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

Sunny and calm (for now) Tuesday

Brandi ~ Yep, it does. Damn!! I just saw another one in my new magazine. I will look at it when I get home.

Alison ~ Hope you both are feeling better!

Kimmar ~ HI!

The head of SPPRC came in and talked to me yesterday and he made me feel a lot better. He and the committee seem to like her and feel she will do just fine. She has some neat ideas and things she wants to do. I think I will feel better once I meet her and can look her in the eyes. Know what I mean?!

I have a question for all of you. I got a call from Matthew and Katlin last night with some concerns about their honeymoon. They are going to the Dominica Republic and they are concerned about the Zeeka Virus. They are wondering if they should cancel. Doug and I said no! And then later last night they come out and say that this Virus is scarier than first thought. BUT - they aren't pregnant or trying for a few years. What do you all think?

WFDT ~ Grilled pork chops, roasted potatoes and a green salad. (real exciting huh?!!)

Make it a great day.

I know what you mean about getting a feel for someone after you meet them in person, but I also have to say that I have meet some grat 2D friends on here that I have never looked into their eyes before.

One of these days I hope to change that!

Have a great day everyone.

Morning all!

Ellen - I am feeling a little better, but Fran is still feeling awful. She sleeps most of the day and is constantly coughing.

As far as traveling to the Dominican Republic, there's a whole lot of other things besides the Zika virus that would deter me from going there, but then again I'm not a very adventurous person.

I can never seem to get ahead of the game, I'm always telling you what "was" for dinner, not what will be. Sunday I didn't even make anything. I just wasn't hungry so I made Fran a sandwich.

Last night we had leftover beef stew, tuna melts, and pickles. We had got take out from a Jewish deli and even though we got a big vat of soup, they gave us pickles with it. I used the bread that came with the soup for the tuna melts. There was a squaw bread, rye bread, and egg bread.

Tonight dinner will be drive through since we have band tonight. It would be nice if we got there early enough that we could eat a sit down meal at iHop.

Alison, glad you are feeling better, hoping Fran gets better soon

WFDT? - Grilled chicken for David and Roasted Cauliflower, peppers and tomatoes for me.

Lilly's 4th birthday.

4??? OMG!! I think I joined the thread when she was born or just a little baby!!! Time flies when you're having fun.

The craft show was AWESOME!!

Glad you had a great time.

I sure do. Hope it all works out.

David and I are going that today is a slow day that allows us so time together.

Nice to have a slow day to spend time together. Hope you've been well.

We are still trying to get over our colds

Blah! That's not good. Hope you get over it soon.

Wednesday night and it's a quiet week in my household. DS is away on school camp and we miss the noise that trails behind. Still.....it's nice to be just DH and myself. We can yell at each other in peace. :teeth:

PIO - I have really gotten used to having just David and I in the house, I really like it a lot.

WFDT? - Taco Salad i think, unless David changes his mind.

Wonderful weather wise Wednesday.

It is absolutely beautiful out this morning. The temps. didn't go below 50 this morning and is on the rise to mid 70's. But the best part is - at least for now - there is no wind. We all have about fallen over, we have had wind for so long. But for this morning, I will take it. I just wish I was at home getting my flower bed ready. They need help in the worst way.

PIO ~ I totally understand. Doug and I had a VERY hard time when Matthew left for college. It was such a rough time for Doug and I but I can honestly say that now we LOVE it being just us. We eat when we want, leave when we want, talk or not talk when we want and thoroughly love it.

Alison ~ How was band? Was Fran able to go? I so hope you got your sit down dinner at IHOP.
The kids are going to an all inclusive adult only resort so they aren't being a whole lot adventurous. They have decided to not do the zipline though.

Brandi ~ I agree!! Some of my best friends I have met on the internet and have traveled and visited them. I hope to someday talk face to face with all of you to.

I had the vice Chair of SPPRC come in yesterday and he really put my mind to ease. He really likes her and all of her ideas. With her just being out of Seminary I feel she is ready to get to work and will bring many new things to the church. Her top priority is going to be the children - PRAISE THE LORD!! We need so much help in the department. Elizabeth is the new Chair this year and also has some neat ideas - exp. Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Confirmation. We haven't had either since Pastor Dyton has been here. We need to get our youth involved again, and I truly believe the parents will follow. Needless to say, I feel a WHOLE lot better today.

I have to go to Kearney early today as we need to get a new windshield in my car. Last Saturday all of a sudden there was a crack that traveled all the way across and into my line of vision. GREAT!!!

WFDT ~ Doug is grilling fillets and starting the potatoes as I won't get home till almost 6. Yea, I don't have to cook - it's a good day. ;)

Make it a great day!

Ellen - I'm glad you are feeling better about the new pastor. Fran is still coughing like crazy, but she still went to band. She won't miss it if she can avoid it.

Welcome back PIO! I like it when it's just Fran and I. Not that I mind guests coming to stay for a few days, but we've had extended guests and I think I'm done with that.

Last night we ended up at a Thai restaurant instead if iHop. That worked for me. As long as it wasn't a drive through I was happy!

Tonight dinner will be pork tenderloin with apple and sage sauce and sautéed spinach for our veggie.

Ellen - So glad to hear that you are feeling better about the pastor.
Alison - sitting down to dinner is better than any drive thru. David and I have gotten away from Drive thru completely, even when we do go to one, we go inside and sit down.

The problem is with Fran and her mobility. It hurts her to get in and out of the car, so anytime she can stay in the car she does. Sometimes she just drives me around to different stores and sits in the car reading her book.

Andrew Sutton gave us a glass of white and a glass of red. Guy Fieri gave us a bananas Foster milkshake that was full of rum. Then we got a margarita when he served us tacos.

I was definitely full from all the samples!
....'full'??? Is that what they're calling it now? ;)

Well considering I got a three course meal with the first chef, the shake a bowl of corn, and two tacos from the second, AND it was over a 7 hour period, I certainly wouldn't have been drunk!

I guess I was being insensitive, and I am sorry for that. I understand that reasoning.

No, not insensitive, you just aren't used to being around someone with extreme arthritis. She was astonished when I told her that I would rather walk into a place and order food and bring it back to the car than eat drive through. Now we try to balance a little more. I'm more than happy to go to a take out sushi or Chinese and bring us back a plate than eat burgers or fried chicken sandwiches. There are times I'm OK with that stuff, but mostly not.

Thankful but tired of things going wrong Thursday.

I am so darn angry this morning. I took off work yesterday 2 hours early to get to Kearney to have my windshield replaced. I sat in their waiting room while they worked on my car. When it was finished I happened to look out and right away noticed something not right, but I went ahead and paid (STUPID STUPID me). I went out to my car and it just didn't look right. I went back in and told the guy that I didn't think it was right. He came right out and took measurements and then we went to my old windshield and sure enough it wasn't. I have a new Cadillac with all the bells and whistles - meaning I have Driver Awareness and Driver Assist features, such as collision alert, lane departure warning, side blind zone alerts and a whole bunch more that is all regulated from the windshield. Plus the "box" this is all in is a square under my rearview mirror. The one they installed is much smaller and a funny shape. He was just the installer so he said he would talk to the manager (the Lady that ordered it) and they would contact me to have it replaced. I was so upset - I called Doug and he talked me down. I am just so tired of poor customer service anymore. This is just so unacceptable. Now I have to have it replaced again.

Alison ~ I guess I never thought of how hard it is for Fran either. You are a good wife!!

Brandi ~ Doug and I don't go out to eat very much at all. It is so expensive and the food is usually not the best for us. When the kids were home I was a real stickler for eating dinner together AT the table. It's funny, because now that it is just Doug and I we still sit at the table and eat.

Kimmar ~ You are just too busy. :cutie:

We are getting a lot of smoke from the controlled fires in Kansas. So much so that they are warning people to stay inside. They have even kept the kids in for recess and sporting activities. Hopefully the rains we are to get starting tomorrow and through the weekend will help. It is really smoky out there.

WFDT ~ Chicken spaghetti, garlic bread sticks and a green salad. Comfort food at it's finest.
