The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

Monday night. We had pumpkin soup for dinner. My first homecooked soup for the winter!

Back to work tomorrow. No rest for the wicked. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Happy Monday morning friends,

I hope you were all busy this weekend. It is rather quiet in here.

Kimmar ~ I agree - I keep thinking the hot flashes will go away, but I have heard that if you have them for more than 5 years you will probably have them the rest of your life. Oh joy!!

Alison ~ Are you feeling better?

PIO ~ Pumpkin soup? Sounds good. Last year I got pretty good at Butternut Squash soup. Do you think they are prepared the same. I just might try it.

Brandi ~ Praying for wonderful results this week.

We had a great weekend, but dang it went way to fast. The party yesterday was probably the most fun I have had in a long time. I can't imagine how the kids thought. What a neat place. So much fun!!

I can't wait for the Championship game tonight. I really want Villanova to win!!

WFDT ~ Hamburgers, chips and peach salad.

Good Morning Everyone.

Both test came back, and I am Cancer Free !

I even had one mass go away! The other large one is getting bigger, so there might be a hospital stay in my future. But for now we are doing good.

Thank you all for the positive thoughts, prayers, and pixie dust it is working.

WFDT? Roasted Veggies, I have purple potatoes, asparagus, broccoli, and zucchini - Meatless Monday!

WooHoo!! Villanova won! If you saw it - what a game! I am sure you could have heard us screaming. WOW!!

Brandi ~ That is the best news!! I am concerned that one mass is bigger though. I pray that all is well soon and this will be but a mere memory. Please take care!

We are smelling the smoke from the fires in Kansas and Oklahoma this morning. It is so hazy out and down right miserable. Not a good situation at all for man nor beast. YUCK!! :(

I got home last night a bit late from the Y and Doug had dinner planned. We didn't have the hamburgers as I had planned. He had bought steaks, sweet potatoes and a nice bottle of wine. It was our Anniversary, but we had celebrated last weekend and we had decided not to do much. But he cooked and even did the dishes. We had a really nice evening and then even better that Villanova won.

I have a massage right after work. I can't wait.

WFDT ~ the Hamburgers we were suppose to have last night.

Make it a great day!

Ellen, My Dr is not too concerned, but it is starting to hurt and if the pain gets to be too much, they will remove it. Since it is attached to my ovary, I think they will take it too. Not that I care really, I just wish they would take it all, i dont need it any more. lol

WFDT? Broccoli, tomatoes, cucumbers and bell peppers, David will add Chicken.

I had an in person job interview with the same company that phone interviewed me.
Getting closer, they said I would know by the end of the week.

Good morning ladies,

Brandi ~ Bless your heart. I would be just like you - I don't need it anymore, just take it out. Then you don't have to worry about it anymore. Why is he not?
Good luck on the job. I still have everything crossed for you. This would be wonderful.

I am NOT going outside anymore than I have to today otherwise I could be blown up to Brandi. Good grief the wind is blowing out there. Yesterday we had the smoke from Kansas and Ok and today we are clear of that but now the fields that were worked are blowing. Real dirty dusty day. I hate the wind!!

Well today is Lilly's 4th birthday. Wow, that went so fast. She is such a sweetheart. We are all going up for dinner and a cookie to celebrate. But there will be NO singing of "Happy Birthday". The child hates it - I mean really hates it. We sang to Harper and Lilly had a complete meltdown under the table. The only one I have EVER seen her have. During the party on Sunday, on the invitations it was clearly stated - NO SINGING!! I don't know what it is, because she loves to sing, and she sings all the time. Just not the Happy Birthday song.

WFDT ~ I think there is to be gourmet sub sandwiches from Ebert and Gerbert's, a new place in Kearney.

Make it a great day!!

Morning everyone!

Ellen, the wind is blowing here and has for the past week. We have had sustain around 25 to 30 MPH, but the gusts have been up to 60 MPH. Crazy wind for us, so you might end in the Chesapeake Bay if you go outside. :)

Lilly is really 4? Time is flying by, I remember waiting on her to be born! I dont think I have heard of anyone that hated the Birthday song.

WFDT - I dont know, we are having dinner with someone from out of town. David is the president of the local chapter of his Alumni group and a recent graduated of the school is flying in for a job interview and they reached out to David to pick his brain about places to live and about Maryland in general, so we are meeting them for dinner.

Frantic Friday!!

Brandi ~
We have NO idea why she hates the song, but she has since she was 1. She can sing it to us but hates us to sing to her. I think it is more being the center of attention. Everyone is looking at her and she doesn't like that. She really isn't real shy but does like to be on the outside more looking in. Bless her heart!
I hope your dinner was a good one. That is nice of David to help like that.

:flower1: to everyone else!!

Doug and I both took yesterday off as we had Dr. appointments all morning. YUCK! But we did take Stephanie out for lunch so that was nice. We did a bit of shopping and we were home early afternoon.

Over much deliberation, Jay has quit the Union Pacific and was offered a job with the City of Lexington Police Department. It was finally was announced yesterday. Lexington gained a good guy.

Last night was Liam's art show over at the Preschool. It was so darn cute. We really enjoyed it and he was so proud of the things he had made. After that we took the kids out for dinner and a Congratulation dinner for Jay and a special treat for the boys. We had such a good time.

The girls and I are going to a HUGE Craft sale tomorrow in Kearney - I can't wait!

WFDT ~ Grilled teriyaki chicken, roasdted beets and a green salad.

Make it a great day

Ellen - hope the craft show is wonderful. I have not been to one in ages. Life has been so darn busy, I need a break.

Hope everyone else is having fun and is healthy.

David and I are going that today is a slow day that allows us so time together.

WFDT taco salad. I use TVP in place of ground beef and I have never met anyone that could tell the difference so needles David really likes it.

Wow! I haven't checked in here though I've been reading every day. We've been having dreary rainy weather here. It's good cause we need it, but really rain in LA only makes it so we can turn our sprinklers off for a few days. It does nothing for the water table as most of it runs off to sea.

We are still trying to get over our colds and so we've been having a lot of soups. I made a beef stew two nights ago, but Fran said it wasn't thick enough and it was a soup. Last night we got chicken noodle soup from a Jewish deli. A huge container. We have tons of leftovers.

Today we are at DCA for the F&W Festival. They do it different here than FL. They have some booths, but we haven't had the chance to hit them yet since we haven't felt good. Instead we've paid through the nose for VIP Celebrity Experiences. Last week we saw Robert Irvine. Today we just got out of the Chef Andrew Sutton Demo. He is the big chef at DL who has three Signature restaurants where he is executive chef. He fed us three courses, soup, steak and dessert.
Now we're in line for Guy Fieri. He's the only chef who's session sold out. I think between the two chefs, I'm going to be good for dinner tonight!

Alison, I think you are doing great for food today. I'm jealous of food and wine. How are the drinks?

We had pizza instead, I guess taco salad tomorrow.

Andrew Sutton gave us a glass of white and a glass of red. Guy Fieri gave us a bananas Foster milkshake that was full of rum. Then we got a margarita when he served us tacos.

I was definitely full from all the samples!

How was Guy's margarita? He has Tex Wasabi's restaurant, so did he serve you the one from there?

He said that the total ingredients in the margarita was tequila, simple syrup, fresh lime juice, and a pinch of salt. It was good. It was too bad that they could only give us two alcoholic drinks per session. He wanted to get everyone drunk and turn it into a big party.

He did mention that he has a restaurant in Baltimore.

He does it is in the horse shoe casino. But I have never been there.

I make my margaritas the same way except for the salt. I might try that next time

He said that he partners with Caesar's and that they clue him in on the market and then from there he decides on the menu/cuisine and whatever else needs to be figured out.

I think it must have been hard to figure out what cuisine was needed in Baltimore!

Good Monday Morning everyone

Alison ~ If I was to tell the truth - I spend a lot of time being very jealous of you, but you shot me over the top today. I would give my eye teeth to see Guy. I love his shows, but to see him in person - swoon -!!! You are so lucky to be able to go and do the things you do. Good for you. I hope you and Fran start feeling better.

Brandi ~ Have your ever tried the cauliflower crust for your pizza? I have and it's wonderful.

The craft show was AWESOME!! I got the cutest side table for the bedroom and a new door hanger for my office door. We went to lunch and then Stephanie and the girls headed home for naps and Elizabeth and I went shopping and got pedicures. We didn't get home till 8pm. Oh my gosh we did have fun.

Yesterday it was announced at church about Pastor Dyton leaving. There were some  people. The new pastor has not been announced yet but just between us - I am not a happy girl at all. This is not a good fit for our church. I could be wrong, and I hope I am, but I am a pretty good judge and this is NOT a good fit at all. Please keep our little church and me in your prayers. I love my job but this is not a good thing.

I went with Elizabeth and the boys yesterday to see Zootopia. It was a really good movie. I loved it.

WFDT ~ Strawberry Chicken salads, cheddar biscuits and lemon bars.

Make it a great day all!!

Ellen,

I have tried a few of the different recipes, but I have not found one that actually worked, do you have a recipe?
I have a feeling that yours uses egg?
