The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

Darn, I was hoping it was closer. I will be at Ft. Irwin in July, which to me sounds really HOT, but I think I fly into Las Vegas? It will be a work trip, so I was trying to figure out if there was a way to swing out and meet you two in person. I think the hotel I will be staying at is in Barstow.

But again this is all based on me getting the new job... I was told I was getting an offer letter today.

Yeah. If it was Pendleton even though it's just as far that would be easier. I didn't even know where Ft. Irwin was at first and had to Google it! The other thing is we are gone half of July for our Alaska trip. My mom just made her excursion reservations yesterday and Palo stuff didn't work out right. Now we have to scramble for that when we get on the ship in July.

Alison ~ How is the packing going? Not long now!!

Well my stuff is all hanging in the spate bedroom ready to be packed. Now I just have to get Fran to pick out one more pair of shorts, some pants, and whatever shirts she wants to bring. Then on Monday I can pack everything up.

I was wrong on Monday, we didn't really have dinner I was so full from lunch. But today is the dungeness crabs with Caesar salad and Texas toast.

Sounds like i will miss you then, oh well maybe next time.

Sounds like your Alaska cruise will be fun, sorry to hear about the Palo plans.

Good grief we have gotten over 5" of rain

WOW! That's a lot of rain!

I'm trying to get packed for our trip to WDW. Today is single digits day!

By your ticker, it looks like 3!!!

My project went live 8 am on Monday and boy was it a major application, a public facing, payment processing, and an admin section, with an XML interface, etc...
Not to bore you all with that, but it was huge, and critical and it went on time, and I have been sitting there for two days straight. But I am home.

Congratulations!! That's a major accomplishment. MAJOR

This week, I taught DS how to make bolognaise sauce. He's been interested to learn and I'm not pushing it too quickly. Just simple stuff and maybe just one dish a week or so.
Otherwise, life progresses as normal here.

I got the job, I did not even have to fight for the salary, they gave it to me in the first offer, and it is a nice raise from what I have now.
I am happy.

WFDT - Asparagus, brown rice, and grilled fist for David

Good for you Brandi! Congratulations! Did you hear that Pam got a job near Tampa?

PIO, I still make the same Bolognaise recipe that my mom taught me around his age. Although I add mushrooms to it. I'm making a variation on that while we're at WDW.

I made a turkey for dinner on Friday. Yesterday I took the meat off the bone and made Turkey Egg Foo Young. Today I need to divvy up and freeze the rest of the meat. We're going to have pork loin with apples for dinner tonight. Only one more night to cook dinner after tonight before we leave on vacation!

I have not talked to Pam in ages, congratulations to her. Tampa is awesome and close to Tiffany.

Good morning ladies,

Brandi ~ Congratulations!! I am so darn happy for you.

PIO ~ I love that DS wants to learn to cook. Matthew was probably at his age that we started cooking together. Now that he is out on his own he is a really good cook. Good for him!!

Alison ~ 2 more days. I am so excited for you. You will have so much fun. I can't wait to hear all about it.

Lyracallie ~ Yum, that looks really good. Welcome!!

Oh my what a weekend we had. It started on Friday - Stephanie's Day care was closed so I was up at 5:30 am to get ready and travel 1/2 to Kearney to switch cars and brought the girls to Elizabeth's. After work Doug and I took them home. While we were having dinner Elizabeth texted me - could I watch the boys on Saturday. We had so much fun. Finally watched Inside Out and then we went and painted pottery. That was so much fun. Today we did Friday all over again, and met Stephanie 1/2 way and they are playing at Aunt Libby's. I am leaving work at 1pm to go into Kearney to get my windshield replaced - AGAIN!!! It better be right this time. Then I have a Dr. Appointment. I will be so glad for tomorrow and I can get back to "normal".

If I could ask for some prayers please. Ethan and Liam's 9 month old Great Dane is really sick. They took her to the emergency vet yesterday morning. At first they thought she had Parvo But that was quickly ruled out. They did all sorts of tests and will do more this morning, but it kind of looks like she might have been poisoned. That just breaks my heart as yes Luna is a big dog but such a gentle pup. Please say a prayer that she makes it. Thanks!

WFDT ~ I have no idea as we will be in Kearney. But I do know I won't be cooking it.

Make it a great day!

Ellen - I am so excited too. I turned in my 2 week notice this morning and they are all in shock, but I dont know why? I have told them for the last week that I was unhappy but they did not listen to me.

Prayers for Luna.

Good for you Brandi! It's amazing how people don't listen.

Ellen, prayers for Luna. I don't see how someone could do that!

In two days we will be on the plane! Today I'm going to put everything in the suitcases.

Dinner tonight will be sausages and peppers with rigatoni.

Good morning all,

Well my little family is in total turmoil. We lost Luna (our grand pup) during surgery. I can't believe she is gone and we are all devastated. Poor Ethan is a wreck! They found that her stomach had twisted - a common thing to happen with Great Danes - it wasn't poisoning - Thank GOD! There are only a few specialized facilities that will do this surgery and it is VERY VERY expensive. Doug and I talked and decided to cover the cost if Luna could be saved. But the prognosis for long term is not very good. I went over yesterday morning and Elizabeth and I talked (Jay is in South Carolina for his 2 week Guard duty) and she decided to have Luna put down. I stayed with Liam at the house and within 20 minutes she was back. Her vet decided to do the surgery ( for about $4000 less) - Bless him - He said that if he found that Luna couldn't be saved he would immediately put her to sleep. Elizabeth was ok with this as 1) it took the decision away from her and 2) we knew we had done all we could do to save her. But when he got in it was just to bad. Bless him for trying!! What a champion for trying to save her life. We are all devastated. Luna was only 9 months old and such a sweet heart.

In other news. Matthew just called me, the church he and Katlin are to be married in is going up in smoke. They have just now updated it to a 3 alarm fire. The kids are just heartbroken. I have no idea where they will get married now. They only have 9 weeks until the ceremony. Oh my!! This Momma is a nervous wreck trying to keep it all together.

Love and hugs to you all.

My goodness Ellen, that is plenty of drama right now. So sorry to hear about Luna, I know it is hard to lose a pet. Hoping that the kids find a place to get married, it is there day, not the day for the location, they will be fine, I know it is hard to make change but everything will work. I am sure of it. Positive thoughts and pixie dust.

Lyricallie - Welcome!

Ellen - So sorry about Luna, especially when she's so young. YIKES! And then the church as well? I hope the community rallies to build a new church!!!

Brandi - YAY!! Congrats on the new job.

Alison - Looks like you're nearly there for the Re-do! Have fun.

Life's moving on as normal here. I can't believe how quickly the year has gone so far. We're nearly in May and before you know it....we'll be talking about Christmas!
My family is all well and its starting to get cold here. Time to dig out soup recipes!

Good morning from a stormy and VERY soggy church.

Oh my goodness we had some very unsettling weather last night. I wasn't ready for the violent thunderstorms, hail and chance of tornadoes. We usually don't get them this early. Most of the time they happen after a very hot and humid day. We live in tornado alley, but really have never seen the storms of last night. They were really weird. Then it has rained all night and still this morning and is forecasted for most of the day. We have gotten over 1 1/2" of rain and it is still pouring. The roads were a hot mess and my car is mud soaked. Oh the joys of living in the country and dirt roads.

Well Matthew and Katlin - at least for this morning - are somewhat breathing a sigh of relief. It looks that most of the fire was contained in the kitchen and offices. They had just finished a complete upgrade and the new fire systems worked just perfectly. The fire doors closed and sprinklers came on so the Sanctuary was spared as well as the Fellowship Hall and Sunday school class rooms. We do know that things could change when the Fire Inspector gets finished with his report, but they are optimistic that they will even be able to have services this Sunday. Bless them all! I keep thinking if this was us. How sad!!

The kids are slowly getting used to the idea of Luna not being there. And Jay - bless his heart - feels so bad that he isn't there to be with them. Liam, being 4 just keeps telling everyone that Luna died and is in heaven. He just doesn't understand really. My heart just hurts for all of them.

PIO ~ I have some great new recipes that I tried this last winter - Butternut squash, loaded baked potato, white chili, for just a few and they all can be meatless. Let me know if I can help with some ideas. I love soup!

Kimmar ~ I totally agree wall are GREAT!! I bet you are ready for this to be over. Bless you!

Brandi ~ I am so happy and excited for you. I knew you would be a perfect fit.

Alison and Fran ~ Safe travels my friends. I am so excited for you, you so deserve it.

WFDT ~ Meatloaf, baked potatoes (which are in the crockpot) and fresh green beans.

Make it a great day!
