The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Well the baseball saga will continue until next Tuesday. The try-out scrimmage was rained out today. He's struggling with what I'm sure every college student struggles with, learning how to manage his money and his time.

Caili's skating coach introduced me to zumba. It is a dance/exercise class that draws steps from Latin ballroom dances, hip-hop, and tribal music. It's really fun, and you don't have to be a dancer to do it (although it is easier to pick up the choreography if you already know the basic steps...not necessary, but easier.) The important thing is to keep moving.

Sounds like I would end up in traction and hospitalized. Contrary to popular belief I am not the most coordinated person. :rotfl2:

Aimee Alot of people are having to make tough decisions. I will pray that she is shown the right decision.

Kathy I know of a few people who stuggle with those same issues :rolleyes1.

Ellen- I meant to write I don't know what it is "about" noodles and butter, you must have been wondering how could someone not understand noodles and butter. One of my favorites, so simple and so tasty.

Laura- I don't know if zumba is for me. My last (as in never again) dancing attempt ended with a trip to the dentist. On the bright side, I finally got over my fear of going to the dentist and now faithfully go every six months.

Kathy- No matter how things turn out with Kyle, this is probably a great chance for him to meet new people. Was he able to find a job?

Becky- I LOVE welsh rarebit, I'd always get it at Williamsburg. I think we'll have to have that soon. My mom just brought me back a cookbook from Williamsburg, I'll have to see if they have a recipe in it. So much for eater lighter, I think that lasted a whole day.

I'm so ansy to get to work tomorrow, it's like waiting for summer vacation. I love my job, but I'm kind of excited I'm done for the season in four days.

If any of you are interested, the Ken Burns National Park special starts Sunday night, it's supposed to be really good. I think it's on past my bedtime though. Well time to stop rambling and finish dinner.

I forgot add WFD stuffed chicken breast and broccoli.

Robin Thanks for the heads up about the national park. I too love Welsh rabbit as I called it as a child. :rotfl:

I also could never understand why people would go to buy fleas at the flea market. Our pets always got them for free :lmao:

Marilyn ~ have a great weekend. Elizabeth is going on an all girls scrapbooking weekend also. I hope your sister has fun - I don't see the facination but a lot of people do.

It's really fun and at some of the events I have been to people were there doing projects other then scrapbooking. It's a great chance to get together, talk, laugh, eat and get something done. My sister is starting to do digital scrapbooking which is something I really want to start working on. I have the software but my computer issues have kept me from being able to.

Marilyn – Good luck seeing Paula, I’d love to meet her!:goodvibes

I would too! I am hoping that I can somehow "bump" in to her but I think they will probably take her in and out the back of the store.

I have wanted to try that but just haven't had the chance yet. I have a gym membership through work and rarely use it and REALLY need to.

Dinner tonight was crab legs! :cloud9:

Anyone care to explain what welsh rarebit is? Thanks!

I'm so excited for the National parks special! I'm pretty sure that some, if not all, of the National parks in Utah will be featured! I love Ken Burns documentaries!!!

Well, the meatballs are in the oven, and if they taste half as good as they smell I will DEFINITELY be posting the recipe!

Just before dinner, I'll whip up the sauce to go over them and the rice. In about 15 minutes, I'll start the side dish. I decided to go with Inside Out Egg Rolls! Basically, it's the veggies from inside the egg roll (you can add meat or not), sauteed in rice wine vinegar and soy sauce. Yummo!

Laura – That zumba sounds right up my alley!

Becky – I thought Nan took that pic too!

Janice - You crack me up.:rotfl2:

Robin – Kyle had to postpone his job search until after baseball try-outs, so we’ll see! Four days to go for you!

Marilyn – I love your dinner, I’ve been craving crabs, well I always crave crabs…

Glynis- I saw the inside out eggroll idea yesterday, it looked tasty. Let us now how it turns out. Welsh rarebit is basically melted, very sharp chedder with dry mustard (I think) and worstershire sauce served over toast. I wish the national park 2 miles from my house would be featured, I guess they had to leave room for the Utah ones!

Considering that "most" of Utah is a National park or monument, I hope they'll feature some of our stuff!

Me too! My DM bought about 10 lb of them a couple of weeks ago when Harris Teeter had them for a great price so we have lots. I am now wanting regular crabs, may go get some next week.

Evening y'all,

I skip the morning & I have 3 pages to catch up on! I went to church with Alexis this morning. She was excited because her class was the choir this week. Also because our priest always yells "Gooood Morning Boys & Girls!" and today they were going to surprise him with yelling back "Haaaappy Birthday Fr. Mike!". I wish you could have seen all these little 1st graders giddy with excitement about thier secret! It was sweet. I left church, went get my toes "pedi-foured", then spent most of the day doing a little retail therapy.

Nancy, It sounds like Buddy could easily hang with Bob & the spicey food! All out spicy chinese can really kick your butt.

Laura, Alexis hasn't been allergy tested at all. Chris is scared to death to do it! She finally got the referral to an allergist a few months back, then she talked to them & found out that they would want to do the scratch testing. She's not ready for it & after the recent hospital stay there is no way I'm going to push for it anytime soon.

Robin, Thanks for letting me know your Dad had trouble with his stomach after appendectomy! The dr did tell her to watch out for a couple of things that were quite scary. Which of course just makes us worry. Good to know.

Becky, I haven't gone hunt for our printer/photo software disk to load it on this computer yet. It's somewhere in the spare-room. I'll let you know how it acts handling the photos.

We no longer have a desk-top computer. We use a big laptop with a 17" screen & now I have this little one to carry around & take on vacay!

I wish I could try Zumba! I think that's somesthing I would love, but I know it would most definitely put me into traction.

I know that I've probably missed something! I'll read back again!

Oh Aimee! I will be praying for your Mom!:flower3: I'm glad that you didn't have a terrible reaction to your iron.

Kat, Is Kyle over that bug? I'm glad he's doing well & just trying to figure out how to handle college life.

Paula Dean is going to be at a Wegmans in VA and I am going to see if I can "see" her. They gave out tickets for it but my sister didn't get any, someone at the store told her that they weren't needed but actually are. We are thinking she is going to be in the upstairs seating area and I am hoping if so that she is sitting where she can be seen from downstairs.

Oooh, I hope you can catch a glimpse! I bet you will hear her before you see her

Ah, yes, many of us still struggle with that... tough balance! I hope he does better than I have done at times. :rolleyes1

Thanks for all the prayers for my mom :flower3:

Today I ate Whataburger twice. Chicken strips for lunch, burger for dinner. It was darn good.

Aimee- I was thinking I will probably at least get to hear her! :rotfl:
