The very unusual lady in the lobby of the Grand Floridian

Maybe what people are missing is that the woman is in assisted living care. She had health care workers around her. That care facility takes her and picks her up from her days at the Grand Floridian.

No one here posting on this board knows what is going on with the woman. Her doctors are taking care of her. If taking her to the Grand Floridian gives her a break from her daily life, then why care? It harms no one and gives this woman something to do. At the age of 72 and without your life partner, what would anyone suggest she do? Sit at the assisted living facility all day or go somewhere that she and her husband loved?

This. Sometimes with older people, it is far kinder to let them gently live their final years, even if their mental and emotional capabilities have eroded. There are far more unusual issues that come up as people enter the end of life that are handled gently too - my mom worked in an assisted living facility for several years and she said that usually as long as the person was not harming themselves or others, it was better for them to have their oddities and quirks than to make things traumatic by forcing "normal" behavior.

So that makes it less bizarre?

I get what she does and why she does it.

But that still doesn't make it normal. And anyone seeing her and not knowing the story, will wonder what the heck is going on.

I'm surprised they haven't kicked her out for loitering, sweet story or not.

Why would they? Lobbies of hotels are public areas, and it isn't like she is trying to sleep there or anything.

Are you kidding?

There is a 70 something woman, with OCD, sitting in a hotel lobby every day, for years. She sits with her suitcase and fully decked out for traveling. But she doesn't ever travel. She just sits there.

Sorry, but I don't find that normal. In fact, I find it bizarre.

Now, after hearing the story, yes, some people might think it is sweet. But it still doesn't make it normal. If it was, no one would ask about her.
Not kidding. Different opinion of what part of the original post seemed cruel than the earlier poster who was criticized for referring to the nine-year-old.

We saw her and I immediately thought she was a CM.

Then I asked at the front desk and they told me she was just a regular guest. I thought the front desk was messing with me and did not believe them until I read it here.

I am so glad Disney has not kicked her out - restores some of my faith in what Disney is all about.

I hope she is there again next time we visit.

Poster simply said what happened with the poster's son. It isn't cruel.

It does not matter if it was an adult or child who said it, anyone that would call an elderly person "Chucky" because she was different, or dressed strange, or maybe unique is cruel. Chucky is an ugly murderous serial killer. :sad2: I would be mortified if one of my children referred to her that way. But then again I'm pretty sure they would not have.

She has an interesting story, she is a welcomed and endeared guest at the Grand Floridian. Maybe she doesn't sleep there, I don't either, I just visit too. Bottom line she is part of the GF family. Honestly if Disney asked every guest that dressed funny, acted strange and made you uncomfortable - there would be a lot of guests asked to leave.

It would be nice if the moderators would lock this thread. OP got their answer.

Yes, that might prevent other posters from judging 9 year olds and insulting OPs for their supposed lack of parenting skills.

It sounds like she's not bothering anyone. I think it's very sweet that they just leave her be. If I saw her I'd love to buy her a cup of tea or something.

This link was posted on the thread that was linked earlier. It has recent pictures in it.

Honestly, I can see why a 9 year old would question who she is, and why someone would find her creepy. She's clearly harmless and I don't think that she should be kicked out but when you put yourself out there in a public place, well, people are gonna talk about it.
