The Top Three Meet Dis-nee (CMO Contest, Part Three)

I'm wondering if there was a tie:
" In the event of a tie, the tied "Top 10" Finalists will be re-judged by an additional judge selected by CareerBuilder.com who will conduct a telephone interview with the tied "Top 10" Finalists. "

The rules specifically state that the judging of the finalists is determined by online votes, unless there is a tie. Were any of the finalists interview by phone recently?

I doubt there was a tie. 500,000 votes were cast and none of the finalists ever mentioned another phone call either.

I think different days would have been a good idea. After the rededication, there's a very large unofficial gathering going on at Animal Kingdom on April 22 in celebration of its 10th anniversary. The folks attending that gathering wouldn't want to leave to go to the Magic Kingdom to watch the CMO announcement and then return to AK to celebrate.

If the CMO announcement were on the 21st or 23rd, everyone could enjoy both.

My guess is that Disney doesn't want the CMO announcement to be a big deal in person... to not interfere with the daily activities of the park. It's going to be a quick ceremony in the morning, when hardly anyone is there (and most people are running to their favorite attractions), and then it'll be over and done with so that the Magic Kingdom can resume its normal daily activity. Just my opinion there.

I saw that celebration planned. Looks like those folks are going to have a blast.

It's sad that something that is presented as something big would be a little competing ceremony though. Oh well, it will still be a lot of fun for them.

>> Did this email come from Ellen by chance?

Linda

That's who sent me my email last year (but the news was better that time). Not all of last year's winners had the same contact person. I guess they didn't want to overwhelm any one person.

I agree, that the wording is unfortunate and most likely a mistake (but I could just be naive).

I think the wording of Mr. Autopia's "Thanks but no thanks" letter is the same as the one I got for tying for 11th. The "tough decision" made sense there, but certainly not where it is just supposed to be votes.

So... either they just used the old letter and changed "Top 10" to "Top 3" or it is a slip which indicates that they just picked the people they wanted to pick. As with most contests, they had the option to alter the rules at any time. So if it looked to them like there were any Shenanigans, they were within their rules to do whatever they wanted.

My guess is that they just used the same email, and made one small change without taking the time to make sure it made sense.

Either way, a little tough to swallow I'm sure.

I hope that all of you who tied for 4th feel the way I did when I got that email. I had a very strong feeling that I hadn't made it, so the email was actually a relief. I went to the gym and ran 5 miles and then I felt better. (I usually only ran two... so feeling better was emotional, not physical)

Congratulations to the Middle 7, and to the Top 3! You should all be very proud!

Okay... There's my answer, then.

'Looks like you were sending your response while I was still drafting my post...

I'm going to the gym to drink five bloody marys - no, Mai-tais. All seriousness aside, Vickie and I are celebrating my 4th place tie by going to Disneyland before the annual passes expire (May 20th?)

And please read this part carefully- If we had the money we'd pay everyone's way. I mean you all, the regulars on this board. Meeting all of you has been better than winning a contest. I'm gonna buy a megamillions ticket and if you all vote for me and my ticket and I win, we're all going! Did I say vote?

By the way little girl Farron Elaine, 8 lbs 10 ounces is radically exquisite!! Want to hold her?

Ok, so wording.... flub up or not, Disney is known for their attention to detail. Right? Disney screams details....."we cannot forget the details". It's evident everywhere and in everything Disney.

So, let's assume it's just an honest mistake in wording by CareerBuilder / Centra Marketing, my concern is why would they want to partner up with an company that doesn't share their standard of excellence?

Anyway, for what it's worth, still love Disney, but not so sure I'd ever use or recommend CB.

Mine came from Linda as well, but it wasn't signed Careerbuilder. It was Centra. I agree that given fleagle's info it was probably just an oversight in re-using the same form email.

Congratulations! Your entry has been judged as a potential Grand Prize Winner in the Disney Pirate Honorary Job Category of the CareerBuilder.com 2007 Dream Job Contest (“Contest”), as described in the attached Official Contest Rules.

(blah blah)

We thank you for your participation in the Contest and look forward to hearing from you soon.

If you have any questions or problems, please call Linda ........

Yes, but the Contest actually has 3 parts to it and Disney is included in the choosing. Centra is the party responsible for the actual running of the contest and informing the winners.

True, and understood, but my point is still that if my company was involved in a contest in any way I would expect to be represented consistent and true to my image. And for any element of the contest that I am not directly responsible for I would be sure to keep tabs on. Know what I mean? I guess easier said than done.

Uh oh, I've been talking to Ann too long. I'm over thinking all this. :)

AM I THE ONLY ONE FREAKING OUT ABOUT THE WORD "TOUGH DECISION" IN MR. AUTOPIA'S THANKS FOR PLAYING EMAIL? CB, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING! ATTENTION TO DETAIL PEOPLE! FOR GOODNESS SAKE!

Total frustration! Must go skate off my fury!
** ahem ** Which just leads to my theory from the start that Disney and CB already had in mind at the start of this contest how the CMO should look, sound, act, etc.... conspiracy theory. ;)

:rotfl: :rotfl: You're so cool** ... and funny, too!

**BTW: I was hanging out with my high-school-aged cousins at Easter, and I was informed that the new word is "diesel." So, Diesel Dave... (Hey! I just realized that it almost fits your whole Autopia motif! :rotfl:) Okay, now I'm just rambling! This little post is becoming embarrassingly stream-of-conscience...

Congratulations to the top three finalists!

While I wish the best for all of the finalists, I have to remain loyal to my "At Work Network" DJ, and throw my support to Tripp! I listen to him everyday while I'm at work, and I'm so excited that he has made it to the final 3!

:cheer2: I'll do what I can to help drum up some votes for him!!:cheer2:

Aaaaahhhhh.... Thank you so much!!!

I'm so sorry Tripp, I must have forgotten to leave you directions.

Just follow the hall to the left of the foyer, turn right at the stairs, go under the landing, turn right past the picture of ToTheSea. Continue down 87 doors until you reach the second set of stairs. Carefully walk up....Mr. Autopia is still sleeping and then open the blue door. Pass HMF's closet and make a left just past the orange vase with Pink Roses (left over from my anniversary bouquet). You room is the 6th one on the right past Kenny's treasure chest.

Let me know if you need a guide.

uh oh... I think I took a wrong turn at Albuquerque. All I see are purple roses and red doors. I must be in the wrong wing...

whew!! i made it through all of the posts--thank you for all of the smiles and hugs. i love the new digs--you have all outdone yourselves!!

madbrad and catotigger--thank you SO MUCH for the fun awards from last night. they looked great--i need to go back and add it to my signature! cat, it was great talking to you on the phone today, cat! i can't WAIT for our fun times this week with you and caldisney :) hooray!!

mr. and mrs. fleagle, i'm so sorry that i missed your anniversary!! i hope that you've gotten past the mayonnaise incident. if you need a babysitter, i'll fly on up :) i love babysitting! ooh, and happy birthday to mr. fleagle!!

 this is for the top 3. CONGRATULATIONS to david, tripp, and justin! i'm definitely going to make plans to meet you, even if my work schedule doesn't allow me to watch all of the competitions.

love,
meggin

p.s. if any of the top 3 are looking for a non-official running mate, i'd like to throw my name into the ring for un-official vice CMO. i know, i know....i guess i'm just not ready to give up the dream....

p.s.s. more later...i spent the morning catching up on the thread and now i've got to get to rehearsal!

p.s.s.s. i've missed you all SO MUCH!! my work schedule is a little calmer this week, so i'll make more frequent stops in here :)

Hey Meggin! Looking forward to seeing you and your husband again when we get in next week.

I guess they did not give you a floor plan when you checked in.

Your actual mileage may vary

Valid point! I think our DISnee Resort family should form our own little company, market ourselves to Disney as extremely passionate "true [Disney] believers," then offer to run the contest properly next year! ;)

Hmmmm..... So, what should we call said company?? :confused3 (Something whimsical yet strong...)

Hi gang..... so I'm certainly not posting this looking for sympathy, but most of you guys are an online extension of my friends and family at this point.... DH and I just got a call from his mother.... the lump she had removed in surgery the other day found to have cancer inside the lump. I guess the initial tests gave it the all clear, but they wanted to remove it before it started to calcify. After the surgery they did more tests and found part of it to be cancerous.... needless to say... all is not bright and sunny in the Lynch-Perry household this afternoon.

So sorry to hear that. My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer and is about to start radiation and chemo. It's tough. Just stay positve. I'll keep your DH's mom in my prayers.

uh.... DIS-ining Women...no... that's not good... Hey Justin! We need a word.

I went back to check and see if anyone posted their Top 20 rejection, but couldn't find it.

By the way... that meant I had to go back to roughly the beginning of the DIScademy Awards. Um... you people brought the funny.

If you ever have time to go through 50 pages of funny, you can start here:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1697374&page=183

which is where Al Pacino and Timon present the Rhoda Dakota Memorial Award. I'm seriously just amazed at how funny the DIScademy was. Everyone from the thread made a tremendous contribution.

I was also reminded of my own feelings the day I got the "thanks but no thanks" email. I should just remind all of you Middle 7 that there is no such thing as a one sided pancake.

OK, this cheer is done like the classic "Let's Go" cheer from high school

CHEERLEADERS READY!!!!!!!!!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
Vote Tripp!

Too much? Well, I don't have a lot in the campaign funds right now and they are doing this for free. You take what you can get...ya know?
