Ohana, it's too bad about "that brother". There's one in every family, sometimes two. DH's mother always worries because we aren't close to his brother. I know she thinks that DH and him are going to end up enemies like her brothers were. But really, it's OK. We aren't close, that's all there is to it. We don't dislike him, we just aren't alike, their family is very different from ours and that's OK. We won't ever be close, but that doesn't mean that we won't always be family. He's the one who is kind of on the outside, the rest of us are very tight. It's just the opposite in my family. I'm the one who is very different and kind of on the outside. I'm not very close with my own family, I fit in better with DH's and am very close to them. Except for the brother. It's OK. Hopefully your situation can be OK too. Get it out in the open and let it go.
