I understand that the SCOTUS decision goes against some people's personal beliefs and that is fine. Just remember that they are your personal beliefs. Others have beliefs that differ from yours and the majority of the people seem to be in support of yesterday's decision. Most of the nation is in celebration mode. You do not need to celebrate if you do not want to, but you need to understand that you are in the minority.

Love is love and the world needs more of it these days. I'd paint my cat rainbow colors...if he'd let me. :)

Its really sad that if you don't agree with something or have your own views you are not respected and are condemned. To each their own, some are pro gay marriage some are not, both opinions need to be respected.

I agree that people people should try and be respectful of other people's views and beliefs - but there is a time and place to be vocal about it. It is hard though sometimes for people to separate the emotional side of their beliefs.

I have been married to my DW for 4 years now (we are a same sex couple - married in Canada), so when someone is overly vocal about their anti gay marriage beliefs it is hard to hear. I have many beliefs that differ from other people, but in respecting those people, I know that sometimes I need to keep my beliefs to myself. I believe that this topic is one those that if you are not for gay marriage/rights, you should respectfully keep those opinions to yourself.

I know there are people that do not agree with who I am, but hearing about all the time is hard (can you imagine people tearing you down for being who you are/your committed relationship?). I am living my life as authentically as I can - and while this ruling from yesterday may bring up occasional discussion for non LGTB people, it is something that I live with on a day to day basis.

I seen a fb post where Disney rainbowed the castle. I don't have anything against this and have a lot of friends and family that is excited about this. However, although I'm gold, I might have to cancel my next cruise if I see dcl rainbowed. I don't want to have to explain to my kids why the colors that they know so well, have changed.

I think you should've thought about the implications of posting this instead of impulsively putting this out.

I agree with you, but the OP doesn't realize that she sounds prejudiced in my opinion and is trying to shield her children from persons who are different. That's where I take issue. While YOU might have an issue with what is changing, don't take away the opportunity for your children to make up their own minds.

Yes please dont rainbow the ship...

rainbow ALL the ships! :lovestruc

You can choose to explain the significance to your kids, or let them just enjoy the colors. It doesn't matter either way, because love wins ;)

I personally think it's a beautiful thing that Disney made the castle rainbow and I would support them if they wanted to shine rainbow lights on the ships. It is a message of inclusion and support. Letting families of all types know they are welcome. I think if you don't agree with same-sex marriage you should simply not marry someone of the same sex. The world is changing and this decision made me hopeful and made me believe the world is changing for the better. A place of peace and love and acceptance for all. You can try to fight it but in the end good is stronger than evil and love is stronger than hate.

Some families may not agree with this and don't want their children to be influenced. I just think the rainbow light on the castle was out of line.

I guess you don't like looking through prisms. It was lights, not paint on the castle, World Trade Center, White House and other places. It is also a celebration of equal rights for everyone. Anyway, the influence that your children will receive is the message of intolerance by you.

At my company we aren't allowed to put up Christmas trees so we don't offend non christians. Whether Disney agrees with the decision or not, they should appeal to both sides here. And don't start attacking me because of my post. I could care less since we each answer for our sins of the world so I have my own battles to fight!

I think Disney does do a pretty good job appealing to both sides. For example take Christmas time at WDW they have the Candlelight Procession that tells the biblical story of the birth of Jesus. They also have Santa Claus all over the place during the holidays. Disney is certainly a family place and they sure do a great job at that each day they also appeal to others by having Christian Nights and also Gay Day at the Parks. They do a great job appealing to both sides in my opinion.

I am talking about the rainbow castle specifically

Please cancel and don't support Disney i'm sure they will do ok with your money. Disney is about a place of inclusion of everyone, the mouse does not care who you are they just want to bring happiness and joy.

The castle appears in rainbow colors regularly. It is just part of the show lighting. The picture that was used was even an old picture. For example see this blog post from 2012 that uses exactly the same picture as the one that was previously included:

If they were to light up a castle in rainbow colors, they would be able to do it much much better now than that vague distribution of colors that the picture shows. They have start of the art projectors with mapping technology on both the DL and the WDW castles for the evening shows. They could make a perfect rainbow if they chose.

I just wanted to add this as the whole discussion starts with a wrong piece of information - and that is never a good thing. Regardless of whether one loves a rainbow castle or not.

How do you explain rainbows in the sky to your children. Do you run indoors and shut the shades?

I don't know about the majority being in favor. The media would make you think that's the case. I think the country is probably equally divided on the topic. I think the opposition has learned to just keep quiet or you get labeled a bigot or called other nasty names for your beliefs. Like I said earlier respect doesn't seem to flow both ways on this topic.

They do use the Rainbow Coloring on the Castle at other times like you said at the beginning of the Evening Shows. The picture from yesterday(even if it was an old picture) was posted for a specific reason and that is what I was saying Disney is not going to light the Castle and keep it lit in Rainbow colors for many days in a row because this image was just used for a specific reason. I for one am glad they shared the image of the Castle like that and making a stand for something the must believe in. I can also understand people getting bent out of shape from this because they do not personally embrace this belief themselves. People can certainly agree or disagree with the Disney decision to display a picture like that yesterday but it is not going to affect Disney's actions in future situations like this.
