Atlanta left a little to be desired but I watch it anyway. NYC is def my fave - have you been watching Bethenny Getting Married? She was my favorite housewife from NYC - show is good but very different without all that housewife drama.

ITA with all of that; I'm not sure I can stomach another season of ATL, but I adore Bethenny!

But we are looking at 6 nights next June. I'm thrilled, although worried about crowds. Was it horrible if you plan and go early, take swim breaks, etc?

Oh, that'll be great! No, it honestly isn't bad at all. You already know the drill: parks early, swim/nap breaks, have a Plan... easy-peasy!

Great update V! So would you recommend morning EMH then? I too have been trained to stay far away. But that place looks EMPTY. Have you tried EMH morning hours at any of the other parks?

I also get overstimulated with lots going on. I think you made a wise mom call and left for the night. Even if fun is being had, sometimes we all just need a little quiet.

As we walked along, Leo grabbed my hand and gave it a few squeezes. And then he pulled me to a stop and said, “Mommy? I think when we all get together as friends, it’s just like making a family!”

All I have to say is this, for that to have come from an 8-year-old, and a boy no less, he must have one great momma!

TINK!!! I was just thinking about you the other day and planned to come looking around the DIS... and here you are! We'll meet one day, I just know it.

Well, I've got two trips in the works. The man and I are heading down to POP for our first trip to the world together: 9/19-9/25. And I'm doing the Princess 1/2 Marathon in 2011 and will be making a trip of it at AKV: 2/25/11-3/5/11. Both PTR links are in my signature, if you're so inclined.

He has his moments! He has, ummm, other, less enchanting moments, too.

Oh, I'm sure. I have a 3 year old godson. I love him. He's my angel. Only sometimes the halo gets caught on his horns.

There we were – Day Three of our WDW vacation. With two days completed, we’d yet to stick to the original Plan. Would Day Three be any different? Read on…



After yet another wonderful sleep on the triple-sheeted comfort of the perfect Yacht Club (YC) mattress, complete with its just-right pillows, I awoke on Day Three ready to get our only Epcot morning going.

Yes, with 10 days, I’d only planned a single Epcot (EP) morning. We seem to have a problem getting to EP early. Maybe it’s a holdover from my pre-Leo days, but EP has long been an evening park for me. And that was just dandy… until Soarin’ came along. I like Soarin’, but I don’t love Soarin’. Same goes for Leo. And so goes the rationale: to ride Soarin’ without a monumental wait, we needed to get to Epcot early; one run on Soarin’ is enough for us, so one morning at EP should do it. Easy-peasy.

We enjoyed our in-room breakfast (which, in case anyone wonders, consisted of cereal, milk, coffee and fruit from home while at the YC), got dressed and headed out to the boat dock. Only to see the EP boat leaving said dock. Curses, foiled again!

So we walked, again, to EP. BUT, not in the rain! Small victories, people.


By this time, all four Housewives were in town, Kate and family having arrived late the previous night. We had no plans written in stone for the morning of Day Three, though, and I wasn't sure just when or where we’d all catch up. Leo and I decided to just get rolling with our rides plan and we’d find our friends as they arrived. We’re all chill like that.

The Plan said to grab Soarin’ Fast Passes and ride Living with the Land (LWTL), so we did.

The Plan then said to ride Nemo.

The Plan had included no reference at all to spending an extra 15 minutes on LWTL, in reverse, because a boat ahead would be broken.

Not half an hour into the day and The Plan was scrapped.


Whilst floating aimlessly around the tail end of LWTL, I’d been texting with T and Kate and knew both to be on their way to EP. So, when we finally disembarked from our watery tour of vegetables, we ditched Nemo and strolled up toward Spaceship Earth to await the arrival of our friends.

First T and family, then Kate and family… wait, where was LL?! She was having a hard time getting her boys up and out that morning, but they'd soon be on their way.

Hooray, three down, one to go! It was sooo good to see the SharkB8’s once again. They’ve had an especially challenging year and it was awfully nice to see them get a little break from the craziness. If hanging around with us can be considered a break from craziness.

Really, us grown-ups could have easily stood there talking, catching up for a couple hours. But the children were getting restless. Yes, they were excited to see their friends again, and yes, it was great just to be in the same place at the same time. But in their minds, all of that could be accomplished while simultaneously getting some RIDE on, right?!

And since we were standing right in front of it anyway, we all jumped into line for Spaceship Earth (SE). All 11 of us. The first of many in-line pairing up plans was underway as the kids wheeled and dealed, deciding who was to ride with whom. Considerations seemed to include who might make interesting faces for the ride photos, who had last ridden SE together, which rides they might want to do together in the future, and with whom Maddie wanted to ride. Yes, little Maddie, for whom I’m had some concern that she might feel excluded, (being the lone girl), had the boys wrapped around her finger from the get-go. Those boys fell into line and were pretty much at her beck and call for the rest of the trip. I love that girl!


The rest of us partnered up, hammed it up, and enjoyed our little trip through time.

We performed similar operations to ride Mission: Space and maybe Soarin’… when the heck did we ride Soarin’?! And with whom?! I know LL wasn’t there yet, but did the rest of us ride it before LL got there? Wow, how quickly the mind fogs post-trip. At any rate, we were all riding, having a good time, making lasting memories…

… when Mission: Space became our stumbling point.

First, Kate got a message from her realtor that needed to be dealt with right away and would result in much running around for her and Mr. SharkB8 as they attempted to buy a house in the middle of a Disney vacation.

Second, Maddie had a sudden need for a visit to the ladies’ room and missed our flight.

Last, came what shall henceforth be known as the Cell Phone Incident.



Have I mentioned Leo’s cell phone yet? Yeah, I gave an eight-year-old boy a cell phone. Not a fancy one, and not an expensive one, but my cheap, pay-as-you-go one. I thought, he’s old enough to just call me if we get separated. And Leo’s a pretty responsible guy. I had more concern over his remembering how to use the cell phone than I did over him possibly losing the cell phone.


Oops. My bad.


Because, as we exited Mission: Space, Leo informed me that his cell phone was MIA. We immediately had a little pow wow, trying to pinpoint just when the phone disappeared. He swore he remembered having it just before Mission: Space, so we were pretty sure it fell out of his pocket on the ride.

Have you ever noticed how dark the floors of those Mission: Space capsules are?! Picture a teeny little black phone in a corner. Would you notice it?

We went back in and the very kind cast members looked inside and out for Leo’s phone – to no avail. We were encouraged to check in with Guest Relations later in the day, but I really figured the phone was a goner.

I wasn’t thrilled. Fortunately, the phone didn’t do more than make calls and take pictures, so it’s not like any finder would have access to email or personal information. And it was pay-as-you-go, so I didn’t need to worry about a contract. But I did still have a lot of minutes left on it and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed in Leo.

Then again… Leo’s disappointment in himself was evident. He felt sure he’d somehow have to pay me back for the cost of the phone. Which, given his current wage of $3 a week in allowance, would pretty much result in servitude for life. And he clearly just felt awful about letting me down.

Yes, I allowed him to feel badly about losing the phone. And we used it as a learning experience; in the future, he’d need to be more aware of things for which he takes responsibility. And he received punishment – he’d not be receiving another cell phone until he proved himself mature enough for the task.

But then, I did a little learning, too. It was time to let it go. No one was injured, no property was damaged. Just a cheap cell phone, easily replaced, may have found a new home. It was time for me to mature some and show my boy that he’s loved, no matter what. I think I accomplished that. I hope I did.



By then, LL had arrived with Tony and Michael and we were all, finally together!

And we AGAIN failed to take a picture. But rest assured – we made up for it later in the trip.


Also, our time was short; the troops were HUNGRY. Kate and the SharkB8’s headed to a picnic lunch and to deal with the aforementioned real estate stuff, and the rest of us settled in at Sunshine Seasons for some chow.

I always have mixed feelings about Sunshine Seasons (SS). They consistently serve up a huge assortment of delicious, nutritious, and varied menu items. But the place is also consistently loud, chaotic, and disorganized. No exceptions this trip, either.

But we did find our favorite spot empty, so that helped. It’s way around the far end, across from LWTL, and tends to be a bit less chaotic and much quieter than the rest of SS. There, I enjoyed a kid-size serving of roasted beet and goat cheese salad. Yes, child-size. No, I never knew you could get that, either. Apparently I confused the guy at the window when I asked if I could also order Leo’s kids’ mac & cheese there and he gave me a child-size salad. Which rang up as a kid meal, too, making my salad cheaper and my accompanying small water and dessert free! Nice. The salad plus some pre-packaged sushi made for a yummy lunch.

The kids all enjoyed their meals, and just plain being together, too.

Next up was Test Track (TT). The SharkB8’s met up with us and I was all set to sit it out with Leo, since he’s refused to ride Test Track for years. He’d tried it once and didn’t like it.

But he surprised me yet again – he wanted to ride! But only sandwiched between Michael and me. Good thing TT is a 3-seater. Leo asked a good many questions about the ride in line, while I snapped pictures and reassured him that all would be well.

It was really past time to head back to the YC for a swim… but rain was threatening yet again. And we were having so much fun with our friends. So we stayed at EP and decided to check out the new Sum of All Thrills ride/exhibit in Innoventions.

It didn’t take long for Leo, Michael and Maddie to decide to skip it. Those robot arms are a little daunting and I don’t think they believed us when we explained that you can make your own ride a nice, gentle one if you choose. T took one for the team and sat it out, and Andy and Tony didn’t want to try it, so they all took a few more spins around Mission: Space with the kids and left LL, Kate, Bites 1, 2 and 3 and I to give it a whirl.


So here’s the deal with Sum of All Thrills: you learn how to use math and physics to build your own ride and then test it out on yourselves. As we all stood in the briefing room, listening intently to the explanations and directions, Kate and I made eye contact. And busted a gut laughing as quietly as we could. Oh yeah, the English major and Art History major were really grasping the science behind Sum. I think we may even have been shush’d by Bites 1 and 2, who DO actually understand physics and stuff, and who most assuredly shudder when I refer to it as physics “and stuff.” Heh heh.

Lucky for us, you don’t actually have to understand the “stuff” to make a ride. LL and I paired up because we love us some thrills. We wanted to go BIG on our ride. We chose the jet and pushed our max heights as high as we could. Maxed out speeds where it would let us. Threw in barrel rolls, batwings and loop-the-loops. We laugh-screamed all the way… BEFORE we even rode it! We knew we’d receive high marks – maybe even a special pin?! – from Disney for our creation. Heck, we figured we might even pass out, our Sum was so very thrilling!

We passed our card over, got buckled in and…









… did our best to pretend like it was the most thrilling ride ever. ‘Cause it wasn’t. The funniest part is that it took a while for either LL or I to confess that it was something of a let-down; neither wanted to spoil it for the other, lol! I still recommend it and hope to get Leo on it someday, too. The experience is very, very cool. Just don’t go looking for the most intense ride you’ve ever seen if you’re a coaster junkie, or you, too, may find that your Sum is a lot less thrilling than its parts.



Not long after our Sum of Only a Few Minor Thrills, Leo and I headed back to the YC to rest a bit, shower and change. The Plan called for dinner and another evening in EP. Think it stuck? Stay tuned and find out!

Love the silly SE pictures. My DH & I always do that too & it makes for some laughs.

Leo's before TT picture is so cute but in an I'm scared to death way. He reminds me of one of my brother's back in the day when he was scared to do those kind of rides at Disney. This was the boy who waited in the line for Splash & when we got ready to load, stepped into the log & got out the other side immediately like no way am I doin this & who now rides a d$%^ motorcycle for fun. So glad Leo loved it this time!!!!

We did it too and it was okay, but nothing for a true thrill seeker to get very excited about. Like you, I'd recommend it, but not in place of Mission Space or Test Track or anything.

Great update! Yay for Leo conquering TT. I hope my son will do the same on our next trip. He will be 8 as well. He rode it when he was 4 and it broke down while he was on it. He hasn't gotten back on it yet. I love the pre-ride picture of Leo. He looks very nervous.

ok.....I will confess....I a woman __ years old.....lost her cell phone at Disney World!!! Poor Leo, I feel his pain!!!!! I lost mine in the Voyage of the Little Mermaid 2 years ago!!! I had my youngest niece sitting on my lap & it must have fallen out then. Was I mad???????? You bet!!! Of course, they go through the....."check with guest relations" etc.....nope, nothing, nada. It was GONE!! Of course I reported it to the carrier right away, ordered a new one when I got home & all was well. It actually taught me a lesson.....insurance on those things is stupid!! I had to pay a "deductible" of $50 after paying for this insurance for how many years!!!!! Oh well, what are you going to do, right?

Leo is certainly growing up & facing his fears! He'll soon be going on all of the rides!!! Good for him!!

And yet another day of "Where was LL?" I don't know HOW they can do it, but the boys sleep like crazy at WDW. Drives me mad. And every trip I threaten to leave them and let them catch up.

And yet every trip I end up going crazy waiting for them...and never just up and leave. Maybe next time...

I must admit...I used poor Leo's cell phone dilemma as a finger-pointing learning experience for Michael too. Michael has been BEGGING for a cell phone. And coming up with all kinds of good reasons to have one.

And I come up with ONE to NOT have one. He'll lose a $30 Transformer before the Japan pavillion is even out of sight...no way will I give him a cell phone to lose.

So thank you Leo...you proved my point! I shamelessly used you as an example for your friend.

And Sum of All Thrills...yep - our adventure was less than hair-raisingly thrilling, BUT - before I discount it all together, I want to try the roller coaster one. It was still fun though and it was nice to try something new and different...

The first of many in-line pairing up plans was underway as the kids wheeled and dealed, deciding who was to ride with whom. Considerations seemed to include who might make interesting faces for the ride photos, who had last ridden SE together, which rides they might want to do together in the future, and with whom Maddie wanted to ride. Yes, little Maddie, for whom I’m had some concern that she might feel excluded, (being the lone girl), had the boys wrapped around her finger from the get-go. Those boys fell into line and were pretty much at her beck and call for the rest of the trip. I love that girl!

She was still hurting her neck at that point staring up at my oldest. She's such a sweetie.

First, Kate got a message from her realtor that needed to be dealt with right away and would result in much running around for her and Mr. SharkB8 as they attempted to buy a house in the middle of a Disney vacation.

Because, as we exited Mission: Space, Leo informed me that his cell phone was MIA. We immediately had a little pow wow, trying to pinpoint just when the phone disappeared. He swore he remembered having it just before Mission: Space, so we were pretty sure it fell out of his pocket on the ride.

Poor kiddo felt so bad. You could see it all over his face. He was betrayed by the cell phone.

So here’s the deal with Sum of All Thrills: you learn how to use math and physics to build your own ride and then test it out on yourselves. As we all stood in the briefing room, listening intently to the explanations and directions, Kate and I made eye contact. And busted a gut laughing as quietly as we could. Oh yeah, the English major and Art History major were really grasping the science behind Sum. I think we may even have been shush’d by Bites 1 and 2, who DO actually understand physics and stuff, and who most assuredly shudder when I refer to it as physics “and stuff.” Heh heh.

Lucky for us, you don’t actually have to understand the “stuff” to make a ride.

Although in this case it sounds like it resulted in a new home!
