The Pursuit of Disney Magic (June 7-14, 2008) ~ UPDATED 9/30 pg. 191

Do you remember Tour Guide Barbie in Toy Story 2? That's me on open house night -- I smile and do my little speil for three hours. I see 100 of my students and their parents -- I adore seeing them after the summer, and it's one of the few times during the year that I get to really chat and visit with the parents. However, this year was fun and heartbreaking at the same time -- this year (normally I have students for all three years) half of my 8th graders will now be going to a new teacher. I wasn't expecting it and only found out yesterday, so tonight I had to tell some of my absolute favorites and their wonderful parents that they would have a new teacher after having me for two years. I teared up a lot. Anyway, long story short I am completely drained both from smiling and laughing a lot, and providing some sad news. I was going to update the TR, but I am so drained right now, I don't think I could string together a coherent sentence to save my life (maybe that is why Barbie is a little flighty :)). Here's a treat though, if you have managed to read this far. We are booked at CBR, but that might change very easily. I still want AKL, the October trip is not definite at all, and then there is the whole renting points thing. So, really nothing is set in stone. ;)

 That stinks about half your students moving to a new teacher. I imagine that's rough on the kids and parents in addition to being rough on you--they can't be happy to lose such a fabulous teacher!

But thank you for telling us where you are currently booked, even though it's very probable that it'll change. :goodvibes My voyeurism is sated. Well, not quite; still have to wait on Jen's chocolate monorail and LL's MNSSHP t-shirts. But it's a start! :thumbsup2

You must be relieved Open House is over. I'm so sorry that you're losing some of your students. That stinks!

CBR!!! Yay!!!! Why do I get the feeling you're going to switch to AKL. My gut feeling is that CBR will not be where you end up.

Okay, that's good to know! Thank you!

We either get a letter from Disney or a letter forwarded from the person we are renting from. The affordability of renting is feeding my habit. We went twice this summer on rented points. If you check out my tickers the OKW trip is renting points as well. The mnsshp is developer points from the AKV dvc incentive then the June BCV our first trip home.....:cloud9:

Thank you! :goodvibes I am just so shocked at how inexpensive the room is if you are renting points.

I just may do that!

Thank you! I am so glad that you enjoyed it!

I will let you all know soon. I promise. Well, I will let you know what we have booked, but that might change since hearing about renting points. However, I will let everyone into the specifics soon.

Really? Was that with the interest rate figured in? The numbers we were working with were about $200 a month for 160 points. I wonder if they have new incentives?

Well, I thought it would be update night, but then open house happened. Tomorrow for sure!

Do you get paperwork from the owner that shows you paid and that you are staying in that room? How does that work at check-in?

I'm so sorry to hear about your students, that can be so emotionally draining!:sad2: They will miss you so much..... Hopefully it will be good just to get the year going and see them in the hall.

Thanks for letting us know you booked CBR.

That's funny about Tour Guide Barbie because my friend and I did that "Ba bye now" and wave that she does about once a week after the last period when we were so glad the kids had finally left for the day.

Awww, that's sweet of you! I think part of it is that we are so used to each other -- and I adore them -- several of them are brothers and sisters of students I have taught in the past, so it is almost like a tradition. I knew that they would be going off to high school in a year, but I thought I had one more year with them.

:But thank you for telling us where you are currently booked, even though it's very probable that it'll change. :goodvibes My voyeurism is sated. Well, not quite; still have to wait on Jen's chocolate monorail and LL's MNSSHP t-shirts. But it's a start! :thumbsup2

It will change knowing me, but I am no good at keeping secrets.

CBR!!! Yay!!!! Why do I get the feeling you're going to switch to AKL. My gut feeling is that CBR will not be where you end up.

It's so pretty though! Those pictures make it look so relaxing and enjoyable! I am waiting to see what Scott says about it.

So you decided to buy into DVC?

Yes, lots of them are on the team that is on my end of the hall, so I will see them everyday. It will be good to get the year going -- just one more day of preplanning and then those halls will be filled with middle schoolers!

Thanks for letting us know you booked CBR.

Of course, you know me -- that is bound to change -- even if it is to change one way and then change back. :rotfl:

I always feel like Tour Guide Barbie at these types of functions -- I always think of her line towards the end about wanting to quit smiling because her face hurts.

Woo hoo!

We have a booking decision. Kind of. Sort of. Subject to change at any time.

Seriously, CP, I could tell you all the reasons I think CBR would be an awesome stay, but you'll find your right choice for your family.:goodvibes

You know this reveal almost makes up for Jiri's cliffhanger.

I said almost.;)

Oh no! A Jiri cliffhanger! Bah! CP this is all your fault, you started it. ;)

I am sorry that you are losing some of your students.

For some reason, I have feeling that CP will be renting points...just my gut telling me so. :thumbsup2 After reading about the renting of points, I have to admit I am a bit intrigued. Maybe checking out DVC for yourself will help you decide if you want to buy in or not. Or maybe in my case it will convince my DH. :rotfl:

Wellll.....just as long as we're clear on everything! :rotfl:

Even though I grew up in Florida, I guess I forget and am always surprised when I hear people going back to school so early in August... My kids never start until after Labor Day and this year because of construction at her school - DD4 doesn't start until Sept 15th :scared1:

Jackie---So sorry to hear about your students going to a different teacher this year--no fun indeed!!! I am sure they will still stop and say "hi!" It sounds like you have a great connection already---I'm sure it will endure even through switching teachers!! Why do the schools do that at times though???? It is so frustrating!!!

Glad to hear that you are already booked, but I know you---I KNOW this is only one of the MANY things that will change between now and then! Let me know how I can help you out if renting is the direction you decide to go in---you KNOW I would be happy to help you out!!!

I'll be thinking of you the rest of the week as school gets back into gear for you!!!

I know where ever you stay you will have a wonderful time planning, and dreaming. Renting points sounds great, but with all the new things at CBR it sounds like fun also.

Sorry about losing part of your students, hopefully the new teacher will continue in the same great pattern. If you were losing students, why not take away the 6th grade class, you do know each other yet?

Best wishes tomorrow with your new 6th graders and with a little luck maybe they will know how to open lockers and get to class on time within a week.

Just think with half the students how much more time you can spend with each student.

I'm sorry to hear that.

I don't think I could string together a coherent sentence to save my life (maybe that is why Barbie is a little flighty :))

Maybe that WAS it.
Or maybe it was the way they put her hair in and her head on. Because my brother used to steal my Barbies and squeeze their heads and all the air would come out their necks and through their hair. And sometimes, when he did it just right their heads would stay all imploded like that.

JERK.

I'm not bitter.

I'm just sayin'.

And I think you're WAY better than a Barbie with an imploded head and hair plugs.

Wow Jackie, I leave for a few days and come back to all these new decisions!! :) the whole renting points thing sounds VERY interesting to me too, I think I might have to find out from Jenn how that whole thing works!

Can't wait to hear all about your plans, so lucky you already know you are going back again!

Annette--just let me know if you ever have questions about it!! I highly recommend it!!! Jen

You know this reveal almost makes up for Jiri's cliffhanger.

I said almost.

I know, I had no Jack to help assuage the agony of Jiri's cliffhanger:(.

We can consider it the first of many resort changes.

Oh no! A Jiri cliffhanger! Bah! CP this is all your fault, you started it. ;)

I know, I know. I should have foreseen the mutiny I would cause. ;)

I am doing a little better with it today -- it was the culmination of Connor finding out he wasn't in a class with his bff, Chelsea finding out that her bffs were on different teams, and then I found out I was losing half of my 8th graders -- it was too much change all at once, and the only change I like are resort changes. :rotfl2:

Renting points is very, very alluring...

Wellll.....just as long as we're clear on everything! :rotfl:

:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Sadly, it probably won't be clear until we are past the 45-day mark and it costs me to change (which I won't pay so I don't change). ;)

Even though I grew up in Florida, I guess I forget and am always surprised when I hear people going back to school so early in August... My kids never start until after Labor Day and this year because of construction at her school - DD4 doesn't start until Sept 15th :scared1:

Wow! We will be halfway through our first nine weeks by September 15!

The connection will endure, but it's disappointing because the 8th grade curriculum is my favorite one, and I have spent two years making sure that my darlings have everything they need so we can truly enjoy the material. This group is so phenomenal -- for two years I have kept raising the bar for them and they exceed at everything -- I have tried so many new things with them, and I just knew this year would be the best one ever with them. Sadly, now I only get half of them. But we will manage -- I am sure everything will work out one way or another.

Glad to hear that you are already booked, but I know you---I KNOW this is only one of the MANY things that will change between now and then! Let me know how I can help you out if renting is the direction you decide to go in---you KNOW I would be happy to help you out!!!

You do know me too well! :goodvibes

Here's a question I had -- when did you start looking for an owner to rent points from?

I'll be thinking of you the rest of the week as school gets back into gear for you!!!

Think of me tomorrow at 8:00 when students arrive (although technically I won't get any until 9:40 because they are on extended homeroom) -- then it will truly be showtime!

I know where ever you stay you will have a wonderful time planning, and dreaming. Renting points sounds great, but with all the new things at CBR it sounds like fun also.

CBR does sound so neat -- that's one of the reasons the decision is so difficult.

Sorry about losing part of your students, hopefully the new teacher will continue in the same great pattern. If you were losing students, why not take away the 6th grade class, you do know each other yet?

That's what a lot of parents asked -- each grade level's times are slightly off from the other ones because they go to connections (art, PE, etc.) for a lesser time than their academic classes. So, the way my schedule has to be only allows me to teach one 8th grade class. I hope the new teacher takes good care of them.

Best wishes tomorrow with your new 6th graders and with a little luck maybe they will know how to open lockers and get to class on time within a week.

Just think with half the students how much more time you can spend with each student.

:rotfl2: Isn't that the truth about 6th graders and lockers!? Chelsea Beth will be one of them trying to figure it all out!

Have a great last pre-planning day, and last student free lunch.

Thanks! It was very productive!

I don't think it's that great of a cliffhanger! Sheesh. :rotfl:

PrincessV, though, now she had a cliffhanger!

:rotfl: In TK's and LL's eyes, it was a cliffhanger of enormous proportions!

Oh well CARP. That's just no fun. :sad1:
I'm sorry to hear that.

JERK.

I'm not bitter.

I'm just sayin'.

And I think you're WAY better than a Barbie with an imploded head and hair plugs.

I am so thankful my brother was 12 years younger than me! I had no idea that Sid was your brother! :scared1: :lmao:

Wow Jackie, I leave for a few days and come back to all these new decisions!! :) the whole renting points thing sounds VERY interesting to me too, I think I might have to find out from Jenn how that whole thing works!

Can't wait to hear all about your plans, so lucky you already know you are going back again!

Yes, find out from Jen how it all works and start planning to go back in June of 2009! :thumbsup2

Yes! Just after our anual June vacation we decided to get on the dvc wait list for BCV through disney (thought it would take a couple of months) and the points came through for us in a week! Then we decided to go back in July (my excuse was to look at AKV):rolleyes1 and then we added on to our points with the AKV incentive. Dh and I both teach so we aren't rolling in the dough! But.....we are devoted to Disney:worship:

Jackie---the DVC owners can book at their home resort at 11 months out--if you are wanting AKL--you would just obviously address your request to an AKL owner or look for those who say they have AKL points for rent. BUT any DVC owner can book at all other DVC resorts at 7 months out. Hope that helps dear!!! I will DEFINITELY be thinking of you tomorrow morning!!! I'll be missing our mid-afternoon "chats" via the DIS, but will be thinking of you! Part of me wishes I was going back to school with you tomorrow!!! Sleep tight tonight dear----Jen
