Good evening! We went out to dinner to celebrate Alex's first day of Middle school.

Don't you love the first day of school? All of the excitement of getting back and all of the nerves because there is so much that is unknown. When they come home it is like a mountain climbed :thumbsup2

Tonight's dinner was a huge hit! And it was....listening Kathy?.....EASY!!!

DELICIOUS!!!

This sounds so yummy!

And now, my dinner. Note I have not talked to Laura for a couple of days, but tonight DH and I had....chicken with honey chipotle bbq sauce (note mine was stuffed with pepper jack cheese), corn on the cob, and broccoli--my broccoli was shredded in a slaw with great hill blue cheese....yum. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1437/1208930432_a966249a2f.jpg

Gail and I seem to have the same kind if relationship. I think it and she does it. She buys it and I have a new pair of shoes that match. It is so nice to have a sister who is so close that you feel the others thoughts.

Hey Y'all!

I'm so excited my french bread came out really good! The white french bread came out beautiful, the wheat I sort of messed up the shape moving it to the pizza stone, but still tasted great! For my first time making french bread, I'm pretty proud of myself! I didn't realize how much cheese I had in the house either, so we had a really yummy dinner!

What a great job on the bread! I had been trying to make some last year but never was brave enough for French. I did make a nice oatmeal and can make some in the machine, but I also want to learn to make my own by hand. Please feel free to share any tips you think will help. please.

Well, I'm only having frozen chicken strips and salad for dinner, but I wanted to share my news.

During Wishes on 8/14, Rob proposed to me! I was so shocked and so happy when DF told me that he can't wait to make all my wishes come true! My ring is so beautiful and I had the most amazing surprise (SHOCK) of my life! I will be calling soon about my DFTW!

I am really happy and excited and when I get back off cloud nine, I will post some of our food pics, because we had a great trip in every way (including the food!) and now the diet starts seriously!

I will post a picture as soon as I can! :)

What a romantic way to begin your new life together :cloud9:. As much as I would love to see pics of the food, I am a wedding junkie, as Lauren can attest to. Have all the chicken strips for dinner you want, just please keep us posted on your plans.....we love weddings here.

Don't get off cloud 9, this is a wonderful and exciting time in both of your lives so enjoy it and each other. Congratulations and many best "Wishes"!

DInner tonight is a maple glazed chicken and the curried roasted sweet potatoes posted earlier. I have not used curry in years, so if anyone who knows better thinks I should change this, please let me know. I am not starting dinner until late this afternoon, I have to take my Aunt to the eye doctor. The poor lady thought that I was not going to because of the fall and called my sister worried that she would mess her appointment.

Good Morning All!

Tonight we are having grilled london broil and probably rice and broccoli. I am not using the marinade recipe that Sheryl just made...I had some mojo criollo (sp) that I needed to use up.

Becky...looks good!

Sheryl, Congrats on the bread! It looks awesome! :thumbsup2

Nancy, are you back to normal? You took some fall.

Kathy, how are you doing today?

Have a great day all!

Lauren- I really am much better, thanks. I am so lucky there was a lot to get badly hurt on as I sailed down the stairs....actually the darn laundry basket seemed to be a cushion that I bounced around on.

Now we need an update on Kathy.

That is so romantic! I know we'd all love to pics of your ring too!!!

Nancy, I searched all over the net for different tips! Do you want a recipe or just tips? I found someone's blog that helped a lot, with pictures! I didn't use that recipe though. So if you want that let me know. Here's the tip site:
http://steamykitchen.wordpress.com/2007/04/18/baking-the-perfect-loaf-of-french-bread/

I used a pizza stone & a pan in the bottom of my oven for the steam. The wheat roll, I tried to slide off the parchment onto the stone, that was hard. The white a just slid the parchment onto the stone & baked on the parchment. It made a very slight difference in the crust, a little bit less crusty, but I think I'll do it on the parchment again next time. Or try using my pizza peel to move the bread, but I think that my ruin the shape. I can do it with pizza crust but this dough is a lot softer & more delicate.

Nancy, We thought Becky's curry roasted sweet potatoes were wonderful! Just use a light hand with the curry if y'all are not used to the taste, but it really pairs well with the sweet potatoes!

Lauren, Thanks! Mojo Criollo??? What's that, share please!

I think tonight I'm going to fix barbecue shrimp. Which here in New Orleans is not barbecue at all, but baked in a mix of butter, olive oil & all kinds of cajun & italian spices. It's always served with lots of french bread to sop up all of the sauce! So yeah, I just convinced myself, that is if the bread makes till this evening, awfully good with my cup of coffee this morning!

Sheryl, you are my hero! That bread looks awesome! I can't bake to save my life. Also, I LOOOVE St. Andre cheese--it's like brie, but three times fattier, which means three times yummier! I like that wine you had too.

Tonight I "think" I am making corn and cheddar cheese chowder and popovers. That is, if DH agrees. Sometimes he does not want to have soup for supper. If he does not want that, then I think I might just cook up a bunch of corn on the cob and serve that with sliced tomatoes and baguette.

Hi Sheryl,

Here is the description from the Goya (that is the brand I use) website:

Zesty Mojo Criollo with garlic, onion, and citrus for tender, tasty meat and poultry.

It really is great on chicken and pork - everyone loves when I marinate chicken wings. I have never used it on London Broil but I am sure it will be fine...kind of like a fajita flavoring.

You shrimp sound yummy...it sounds alot like my scampi recipe...now, I am craving!!! :) :) :)

Ladies, Can I freeze ****ake mushrooms after they are cooked? I know this may be a dumb question but I received some in that Diamond Organic shipment and my guys don't eat them but I would like to do something with them. TIA!

If you cannot figure out what mushrooms I was referring to, they are the sheetake (sp) ones...:)

Sheryl - the bread looked beautiful. I don't blame you. BBQ shrimp sounds perfect with that bread.

Lauren - I have no idea about the mushrooms. Sorry.

Nancy - Have you posted the recipe for the maple glazed chicken? BTW - I'm glad you are beginning to feel better.

Janice - How did your son's first day of middle school go? Did he like it? My DS started sixth grade yesterday too and came home last night talking a mile a minute. He loved it, which as you know, makes it much easier to get him out of bed in the morning. ;)

Lulu - Congrats dear. As others have said, please be sure to share the wedding details.

Tonight we are having leftover pizza casserole. The guys loved it. Youngest DD, not so much. But she rarely likes anything with a tomato sauce.

Have a great day everyone.

I'm YOUR hero???? Wow, that's a big compliment! :goodvibes Go buy yourself a Kitchenaid & (a pizza stone if you don't have one)! If I can do it, I am positive that you can. I really have a hard time baking! I've given up on most cakes, they usually come out lopsided!

Becky, I wish you could have tasted the Fleur de Lis Cheese! It was similar to the St Andre, but even creamier yeah fattier! But it has a tart more blue cheese like flavor, delicious! There was nothing low fat about that dinner. Coppola Claret is one of my favorite wines! I really like big bold reds & I like that this one is always the same, I can trust that when I open it, it's going to be great!

I'm going to have to go look for that! I think I had Goya Mojo before but don't remember the Criollo being on there....? Nope, I just went look at the goya site, never tried that before! Our regular groceries don't carry all of that stuff! I'm going to have to go check the little latin market nearby.

Lauren, I don't think mushrooms of any kind can be frozen, even after cooking. Maybe I'm wrong but I seem to remember that, because of the high water content. Anyone else know? Hey why did it let Lindsay say ****ake but not Lauren?!

Lauren, BBQ shrimp is similar to scampi, but with lots of chopped onions, garlic, bell pepper, parsley, etc. and worchestershire and lots of cajun spice!!!

Gretchen, Thanks! If I could have pulled off the bread & the shrimp last night that would have been great, but that would have just been way too much work for me!
I lucked out on having good cheese in the house & since it was something different than our usual, it felt really special! Pulled out the BIG FAN & ate outside, DH said he felt like he'd gone on vacation! ;)

:yay: Another wedding for us to help plan. Congrats LuLu!!

That sounds great to me. DH doesn't like curry so I've avoided the recipe. Not sure I can hold off much longer. Do you know off hand what page the recipe is on?

Sheryl, you are my hero!

WOW, my hero has a hero. Sheryl, I guess that means you're my ultimate hero!;)

Thank you for correcting my spelling...I was hoping everyone knew what I was talking about since I used (sp)...

I knew exactly what you were talking about, however, I can offer no advice. Sorry, my friend.

I'm feeling a little better today, the pain is still pretty intense during the night, when laying down. My dentist called my pharmacy to give me MORE pain pills. So hopefully I'll be getting better every day!:goodvibes
