Lulu--Congrats! Make sure to keep us informed of all the planning!

Well, tonight, I think, is going to be polynesian chicken. And maybe some rice or pasta on the side. I'm sure the kiddos will have chicken nuggets b/c they are SO picky. Any advice on getting kids to eat a variety of foods? Heck, I would settle for them eating anything other than carbs--the ONLY meat DS will eat is chicken nuggets--everything else he spits out! Luckily both of them really like fruit b/c the only veggie they'll eat is carrots (and they have to be out of a can :scared: )

Oh, Stephanie, I feel your pain! Picky eaters can really make you want to pull your hair out.

Here's some things that Alan and I have tried with our kids that have helped:

First of all, let your kids help with the cooking. They are much more likely to eat something that they helped make.

Second, we require all our kids to take as many bites of food as they are old. Our kids tested us on this one to begin with. After a few times of staying at the table longer than the rest of the family, and they knew we meant business. Now, they know the rule, and it's hardly ever a problem. This is how my son found out that salmon is his favorite food. At first he thought it "looked icky", but when he tried his 5 bites, he decided he liked it, and scarfed the whole thing down.

Third, once a month we all sit down as a family, and I ask for their advice on dinners in the coming weeks. They tell me their favorites, and I work them in as I can on my menu plans. When they see that you are willing to give them some say in their choices, they are much happier to try something new.

If all else fails, my kids know where the peanut butter and jelly is. I am not a short order cook, and so if they've tried their bites of food, and honestly don't like the meal, they can make themselves a peanut butter sandwich. However, they forfeit dessert that way.

Good luck! This is tough!!

You & Alan are such great parents, these suggestions are very good!:thumbsup2

glynis--thanks for the suggestions! I'll definitely be trying some out. DS is still too young to get most of it--I just keep trying different things with him, and he just refuses to eat :confused3 He'll even try it, and most times just spit it out! He's not lacking in the weight dept. so at least that's not a concern. I've tried having Emma help me cook, she loves to help. But sometimes, even if she's helped, she won't eat. One night I had her help me make a ham and cheese stromboli--we had a ball cooking, but when it came down to eating, she refused! She's gone to bed hungry many nights b/c I refuse to make several different meals. One night she was at the table for 3hrs almost, b/c we made a deal about broccoli--she could have ice cream after lunch if she ate her broccoli at dinner. Needless to say, she doesn't make those deals anymore!

PB&J is my alternative if they are refusing to eat. Or I give Emma a choice before a war starts--either PB or what mommy made. She is definitely the drama queen of the house--I'm in for it in the teenage years!

 Thanks my friend. I haven't had to take a pain pill since 8:00 this morning!! I am so glad you are feeling better.:goodvibes

Sangria would be very good for you. It has fruit juice in it. See it is healthy.;)

Just in case any of you are weather watchers. About 1 hour ago we had a very nasty storm race through. Like I said before, I must live in a blessed area just leaves and a few branches down here. We had more rain which is not what we need and one need rain I'll send it your way.

This has not been one of my better days earlier I had a call from school telling that my son never showed up  :faint: I kept telling them they were mistaken and to check again with all his teachers. The school then asked if I wanted a call back:confused3 my answer was YES No call back so I called after waiting for a minute to shorten my story "so sorry we had the wrong child" there are 2 children with the same name in his grade. I need to know if you all think I'm being over the top on this I want to call the school back and let them know I found this very unacceptible to call me after 5 hours has passed to let me know my son is mia. Wwhat do you all think?

First - You're right sangria is very healthy and good for me.

Second - You continue to be blessed in the weather department, let's hope it continues to stay that way.:goodvibes

Third - Hell yes, I'd definitely call the school - totally unacceptable!:sad2:

OMG!!! You need some Sangria!!! You are definitely not over the top on this. This is an uncalled for mistake and the people involved at making it should be reprimanded (SP). Obviously, they did not check with the homeroom teacher or page your son over the PA...

Thanks I knew you all would be honest. I have to wait for Alex to get home before I break out the bottle. If we had something more than beer at work I would have had a drink. Though I really felt like throwing up Sorry TMI.

With the strorms they kept the kids at school until the storm passed at least they do somethings right.;) Hopefully my baby boy well be home soon I think I'll go get some Chinese tonight to much nervous energy, I don't trust myself around the stove tonight .

I would definitely ask the school what they plan on doing in the future to make sure this doesn't happen again. And don't hang up until you have an acceptable answer.

All I can say, is keep on trying. They usually grow out of it. Just keep offering new stuff. Make sure they see you enjoying "grown up" food, and hopefully, they'll want to try it out.

ITA with everything Kathy said.

Sorry, you had such a bad day! How old is your son? I think the way that was handled was totally unacceptable!

I agree with Lauren, have some Sangria!

Nancy, I hunting for your recipe! I'm not sure which one I used now!

Hey there WFD friends! I have a dinner idea to run by you. Any and all advice appreciated :)

I was toying with the idea of a Mexican Lasagna. Tell me what you think. Brown up about 2 lbs. or so of ground beef or turkey. Add taco seasoning (I LOVE Old El Paso!!). Take a casserole dish and layer tortilla shells, meat, black beans, and Mexican white cheese (I have no idea what it's called. They serve it a lot at Mexican restaurants. Please post if you know they name. I've seen it in tubs at our Bi-lo). End with a topping of a shredded cheese of some kind then bake.

Does that sound good? Should I add or take away anything? Please don't suggest salsa, I hate tomatoes (but love sauce, ketcup, soup, etc. I know I'm odd).

What do you think? I'd serve it with Spanish rice.

Lindsay- I think you're talking about Manchego cheese. And that casserole sounds yummy! I think I'd put the chips on top though so they stay crunchy and not get soggy. Send any leftovers this way!

ETA: I'd add sour cream and top with some guacamole or avacado.

I meant tortilla shells, you know, like what you make burritos and such with, not chips.

I agree with the sour cream and stuff. Sounds really good, Lindsay!
