Last year we stayed LVC and were assigned room 1507. At the time we were there the bush in front of our sliding door was so over grown that our view was completely obstructed. It was terrible. We could see nothing but that bush unless we stood on the chairs or walked in front of it of course. So much for paying for lagoon view! Of course, we immediately asked for a different room but none were available for, if I remember correctly the first 3 nights (maybe 2, but I think 3). The CM who came to our room to take a look said he understood why we would be unhappy (of course, maybe he is supposed to say that.) Then we were given room 1512: wonderful--now that is what we were paying for :thumbsup2 ! DH was reluctant to book LVC again this year because of the bush incident (btw, we even offered to trim it ourselves :rotfl: , but were told it was a special bush of some sort about to bloom; however, the day after we moved gardeners cut it way back. I guess the next guests were more persuasive). Yes, I know the views for some rooms are going to be partially obstructed, but I assured DH the odds of that happening again were so slim that we should go ahead with LVC again this year and he said OK.
Now, I'm starting to wonder...what if we get that same room again (same time of year so the same bush should be ready to bloom  ) DH will be very unhappy even though we are at Disney. How can I avoid 1507? I did make a little note about it when initially contacting IPO a few months ago, but that probably won't help. Our dream :cloud9: would be a third floor balcony with a fantastic view (this the 1st year autistic DS's docs have said balcony will not be a risk--years we have spent on the ground floor everywhere), we need non-smoking so I'm wishing but not counting on it. Most important to me is to stay clear of that darn bush if it is over grown or DH will never agree to spend the money for the "view" again.
Any suggestions? (If it matters, if we don't have any delays our flight arrives early morning.)
TIA

Hi!
We have booked our first-ever Poly trip for the end of January. We're doing MK view, and are considering requesting Tahiti at this point. Any thoughts on the MK view at Tahiti? I know hubby will be refilling mugs often enough, so how inconvenient would that be from Tahiti? Are there any floors that afford a better MK view than the others? I know these will just be opinions, but that's what I need! One more question...can I get Tonga Toast at Captain Cooks or only at Kona?
So excited about our trip, evein if it's more than half a year away!
Thanks!!

I can answer that last question:

Tonga Toast is available now at the temporary location of Captain Cook's and it also will be on the newly-expanded menu when you arrive for your Polynesian Resort vacation, in its bigger and better new digs!

Yum, my mouse is watering just thinking about it.

I'm still reading through, but want to say thanks for the great information. We're staying at the Poly GV- only one night though- on our DVC points before going over to BCV this September. I've wanted to stay at the Poly since my first visit in 1975 when I was- well really young, but no one else in the family ever did. They're BCV and CR people. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but the Poly is the Poly!

We're looking at Samoa- but we're waiting to make requests until we get there. Any secondary suggestions?

Also- for the quickest arrival at the MK- which is better monorail or boat?

Thanks. And thanks Tikiman for the great site. I keep showing it to my kids to convince them this is a good idea.

The view from Tahiti is wonderful. It is a bit of a walk for your mug. I would still choose Tahiti in a heartbeat!

I was kind of bummed to read that the Mug Refill program at the Polynesian will not be running in October when we visit. We'll be at the Polynesian for 5 nights and were looking forward to taking advantage of the refillable drinks. Am I understanding correctly that the mug program won't start again unti Captain Cook's is reopened and that could be January? I'm also worried about Tokelau not being finished as that is the building we really wanted.
I know...nothing earth shattering...but they are just some of the little things that make Disney more magical for us... :)

What's that about the refillable mugs? Oh, man! I am so disappointed! I am staying at Poly with my kids for the first time in Oct. and I really wanted one for a souvenir!!!

I was just there. There is no soda fountain, just bottles to buy. I was told by the food manager that it will not be open by October. It will be under renovation for at least 6 months. I am going in October too and I am pretty sure it will be closed.

Thanks, DaisyD, for the refillable mug confirmation. Tikiman mentioned all this in his latest email but I was hoping I read it wrong. I guess not. Bummer!

Me Too! We wanted Poly mugs and refills of fountain soda would be nice.

 Hello all. I am curious where folks are putting the cribs or packnplays in the renovated rooms. From the photographs I have seen, it looks like there is not enough room between the bed and the wall that adjoins the bathroom.

We are driving so we can bring our own PackNPlay or we can use the crib that Poly has. If anyone has any thoughts on which would be better and where in the world one puts the crib in the new room layout, I sure would appreciate your insight!

It should fit between the closet area and the desk. We are well past the crib stage but years ago the rooms in the Polynesian had a long low dresser and we had plenty of room to put the crib there.

The view from different floors in Tahiti won't vary much with regard to the MK because it is so far away. Great views from any floor.

It is the longest walk to the GCH...maybe 5-8 minutes?

Tonga Toast is now available in the temporary replacement site for CC and reportedly will be at CC when it reopens. You can also order it from room service. :sunny:

Julie

You know I think they are probably about the same. The boat goes directly to the MK from the Polynesian and I would guess the ride to be about five minutes. The monorail of course stops at the GF first but that is usually a quick stop.

Both are fun! :cool1:

Staying at the Poly for the first time, one night only after our Disney Cruise.... What type of room for one night only would you request? We had the Lilo & Stitch breakfast and fell in love  with the pool, the atmosphere, the location, the transportation options, etc....

Thanks!

Maybe since you liked the pool, location and transportation options so much, requesting a room in Samoa would be a good match for you since it is nearest the volcano pool and very close to the monorail line. My room request is for Tokelau, but it will probably not be completed by the time I go in October, so my 2nd choice is Samoa. I chose Tokelau first because I think my kids will like the quiet pool AND we plan on walking to the TTC to get to Epcot.

What does DCL do for Halloween on board their ships? Sounds like a fun time! We'll be going to MNSSHP this year for the first time. Can't wait!

Thanks for the suggestion! We've done MNSSHP twice so far so it was time for something new.... I think the characters dress up like they do for MNSSHP and they do have activities and trick or treats for the kids.... but our DIS chat group is going to throw a DIS party with yummy stuff too! I can't wait... Only 479 days to go...

Thanks BCV23. It looks like one way over, one way back.

Thanks BCV23 for your reply. I hear all the time that folks had ample room before the renovations, but I am curious if anyone has used a crib or packnplay since the renovations. If so, where did they put it and how did it fit? I read that if you put it where the adjoining door is that there is not enough room now with the desk and that it sticks way out and blocks the walk way to the closet area.

Surely we have some Dis -parents that have used a crib in a renovated room! :)

Hey there, remember me? ;) Just a quick question for 'ya out of curiousity. With the exception of tax and tip, is the cost of tonga toast from room service the same as in the restaurant or Captain Cook's?
