The Official October 2012 Car Rental Thread

I'm waiting until after Columbus Day, I remember last year the rates were really high and then went realllllly low ! here's hoping for a repeat ~! :wizard:

How are the rest of you doing?

We always rent a car in WDW and do on nearly every other trip we take, these October rates are among the highest I can recall although there were some decent rates on occassion. I was really lucky to get in on a 24 hour period that Dollar seemed to have low, low rates. I got a mid size for 4 days with all taxes for $85. I know that is a great deal and have no complaints but it seems like nearly everyone is still waiting for the rates to come down.

Hopefully! I will keep my finger's crossed so everyone can get a better deal than what they have!

I've been saying this too! I thought my rental for 15 days was high at $475 with National, but now with the current rate double that, it's looking better. I doubt we see much movement this week, but hoping for some movement next week. We leave on Oct 12, so it's coming down to the wire.

Keep waiting for rates to drop, but we are gettting close.
Which to choose? Our plane arrives Sat 10/13 at 9am

Dollar minivan from airport at 9 am $294 (city special previously booked) (9 days)

OR

National minivan at Car Care Center at 12:30 pm $326 (8 days w/ KLM).

Prefer National, but don't know if hassle of picking up minivan from CCC later in day plus spending $32 more is worth it. National we get a 2nd driver, but if we rent from Dollar its ok if DH does all the driving.

DH has Dollar Express card. If I add it to his reservation does he need to go to counter or can he go straight to garage?

Rates for my dates (Oct 12- 22) seem to remain high across the board with the exception of National who remains the same still using the KLM code and the $35 off National coupon. I guess I really shouldn't complain. $28/day all inclusive rate is actually pretty good if you really think about everything included and the benefits of National :thumbsup2

mieuxmew- When I called Dollar express to add my dh's express number on they told me we could go right to garage. Only reason why I am going with Dollar instead of National, but then Dollar was 60 bucks cheaper for a bigger car even.

So what exactly is this KLM code? It certainly gives you a much better rate than anything else I have seen. Has anyone used it and had success?

I would consider Priceline, but not sure they do one-way rentals and really only want to deal with the "big" companies....would be very unhappy to get Fox, or Advantage or some-other-such company.

I don't know about one-way rentals, but do know with Priceline that you would only get one of 5 of the bigger rental companies - you would not get Fox or Advantage. You are guaranteed one of the following with the Name Your Price: Avis, Alamo, Budget, Hertz and National.

Thanks for the site. I am too skeptical. I think for now I am just going to stick to my budget and hope that maybe prices start to move down in the next couple of weeks.

Just reserved a minivan through Dollar from Oct 27-Nov 1 for $368.79 total. It feels really high but was the lowest rate we could find, the citydeals through Dollar quoted a higher rate ($600). We found that rate through carrentalsavers.com. I'm going to keep looking and hopefully we can get it down a bit. My parents and I (+ hubby + 2 car seats) can cram into my Pilot with the 3rd row but SUV's seem a bit more expensive than minivans- not to mention cargo space is so small in the SUV's. I'm afraid renting a minivan will make me want one :rotfl:

My parents rented a mini van on a trip when my son was 2, I came home and bought one LOL.

Good to know, thanks! I may give it a whirl at the last minute if the price doesn't break....:)

Has anyone checked the prices on alamo recently with the American Airlines coupon good for $35 dollars off. It says something about a blackout but it is supposed to be good until the end of the year. It is AD2359FDF.

It means that the time period you need to rent is deamed a blackout period by Alamo. Even though it expires at the end of the years doesn't prohibit Alamo from restricting the use of the code during certain times- usually around a holiday. Or they place restrictions on what locations the code can be used at.

Leaving in a couple hours for LAX, and my rental rates never dropped. In fact they're more now. I know it's a little different than MCO, but still, I'm surprised.

I just got back from a full week at DL, flew into John Wayne (SNA). We only paid $95 TOTAL for a week! Used Costco's website, this was with Budget, but they were all about the same. We took a compact (on purpose) because we intended to drive around a few days.

I pay for being picky honestly. I like being able to select my own car from the aisle, so I always use Alamo. This go around I found the cheapest rate to be with National. I needed an SUV for us girls and all our luggage, which I got for around $300 total for the week. We're also driving to Las Vegas, so we wanted something a little bigger for the long drive. I have a feeling that's gonna bite me in the butt when I started putting gas in it.

Today is Tuesday and the day that National and Alamo releases their "last minute" specials. I'm not optimistic, but always hopefully. I still have next Tuesday (after the holiday weekend) too.

So I might have deleted my great Alamo rate email. I cannot find it no matter how hard I search my inbox. Has anyone found a way to pull up your Alamo reservation without a confirmation number? I am kicking myself as it was $191 and today it is $244. So I made a back up reservation at the $244 just in case... Any ideas? I must have deleted the email.
