The Official October 2012 Car Rental Thread

The codes I used are ID 7014136 and cpn code ad2338fdf. My dates are Oct 18th-26th. Someone suggested on here to clear your cookies on your computer and as soon as I did this the rates went way down.. Worth a try and thanks to the person who suggested it:)

What am I doing wrong? I cleared my cookies and used the same codes (plus my Alamo Insider's number) and the price went up to $490.00 using those codes. My dates are Oct 27th-Nov 4th.:confused3

I'm not having any luck either. Cleared cookies on 2 different browsers and used the coupon codes for an Oct 17-23 rental and the prices didn't change at all for any of the categories.

So weird, I just went and plugged my codes in again and it is still $144. The only thing that could be the reason is that I am picking up in Tampa and dropping off in MCO?? You would think that would make it higher though?? Hope your rates drop soon:goodvibes

The pickup and drop off makes all the difference. I was able to find this good rate copying this itinerary, but rates picking up and returning to MCO remain high.

Plug in your codes now!! Alamo rates are way down, I have a midsize for 7 days for $144 with all taxes and charges:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

Thanks so much! Now my question is this, I have a midsize SUV and a full size reservation. What happens if I don't cancel one of them until the day of? I have a code I'm using, similar to the Vroom code I think, where I'm not sure where it came from. I called and asked Alamo, and she told me that she didn't know what it was for, and that it was good rate, to go ahead and use it. I just hate to get up to the counter and have someone else tell me otherwise, and I'll be out of luck-hence the second reservation. Anyone ever done anything like that? I've never rented a car before, and I'm paranoid the code I have will cause some sort of problem for me. TIA!

I just got $130 all taxes and fees included for pickup and drop off at the car care center from Alamo for 10/13- 10/17 only using by insider ID.... I'm going to play around more to see if I can get a better deal but I'm happy with that for now

What codes are you using? I am still getting $730.00 for a mini van for 10 days with Alamo.

I'm not sure of your dates but just plugged in Oct 13 - 23rd and with Budget using x474200 (travelocity code) and E-Coupon MUGZ029 for $30 off total is $442 inc taxes after coupon is applied when return minivan.

Thanks! Good luck to you too!

I do have a rate of $285 with National which includes all the taxes & coverages thanks to the KLM code. I do still have a reservation with Dollar that is about $60 less. Since I am Exec with National and it has all the coverages so I think it is worth it for the Aisle access and coverage to pay the extra $60 to stick with National.

Hey, wanted to let you know that my National rate dropped this morning by $21. You might want to check your dates since ours are similar for the start date. I only hope it continues to go down! Alamo was much higher this morning, which is strange since Alamo generally is lower than National, but we too are Executive Aisle members for many years now, so we love that perk. We have, however, already met our criteria for next year as we are at 41 rental days now without the October rental days, so if we have to use Alamo, we are still good for next year's status.

Thanks for the heads up but for some reason my rate didn't budge even a penny. I think having it that Friday night is throwing me off. The kicker is that we don't even get into MCO until 11pm so I don't even need it that long that day!

Sadly I think I do need this reservation to keep exec.

I looked into using my Amex points for the reservation. Unfortunately the code you have to use it puts me at a rate of double what I have. I wish the Amex points were just a gift card and could be used with any promotion!

If you don't get into MCO until 11p, do you really need the ressie for that day, or can you make the pickup after midnight? I know it takes us about an hour to get our luggage and get to the garage....you might even take a moment and get a cup of coffee along the way. I would never pay an extra day for an hour......good luck!

In the past, we have always rented from Alamo. This time, I was able to get a better deal with Dollar for the second week of October.

I've never used Dollar. Do they let you pick out your own car, like Alamo? Do they have the same kisok like Alamo (you don't have to wait in line at MCO, you can just walk up to the kisok and put your license and credit card into the machine and it prints out your ticket)?

Thanks for the info.

No kiosks & they don't let you pick your car. You have to go to the counter. I really wish all the rentals car companies would go the kiosk route, but then they wouldn't be able to try & force the upgrade upon you. I have rented with Dollar without issue (except a long wait in line) but I much prefer to rent from either Alamo, National, or Hertz for the convenience of not going to the counter. It's worth a few extra dollars to me, but not if it was a huge difference in price.

Seems like the rates are the best right before departure. Just about a month away and everything seems high.

Thanks for the info. I agree, I would rather use Alamo, but I was able to get a full size car for 10 days through Dollar for $194 and Alamo is $272.

I will keep watching the prices, but we leave in 12 days and I'm losing hope that the price will go down.

No kisok's as pp have said. You can join their Express Program for free. It will save all of your information so it is quicker at the counter. You will have to wait in line but the Express does have it's "own" line. It has been a few years since we have rented from Dollar but are also doing so for our upcoming trip. The price was better than anything else I could find.

The rates have been staying pretty high lately even up to the last minute. My trip is just a little over 2 weeks away and rates are still pretty high. Pretty much double of what I've paid last year.

Last minute specials have been posted and again MCO was not included. I suspect the Columbus Day weekend or high occupancy for this timeframe would be the reason. 16 days to hope for a lower rate. Actually everything is even higher now.

Using the Dollar code for a $45/day convertible Mustang Oct 27-29.
