The Official DIS Oscars LIVE Watch Party Thread! The Afterparty continues. . .

Saw this going around on Facebook tonight. Have to say, I think there could be some truths peppered in there. Obviously, 100% pure speculation. We have no real idea what truly is going on. But in the 40 years WS has been in the business, this incident doesn't seem like the WS we have known prior. I just don't know.

Again, I didn't write this, just thought it was another interesting take on the whole debacle we could discuss.

As one of the biggest Will Smith fan’s in the world, it’s a shame to witness this amazing talent slowly lose his emotional state over this toxic woman, he calls a wife.

The joke was distasteful but not worthy of the show he made after the fact. Chris Rock was being a comedian at the Oscars.

If anyone thinks the “slap” was a form of “protecting his wife” you’re as delusional as that fake apology he gave after winning the Oscar.

The real insult comes from his wife “entanglement“ which she paraded on her show for ratings. She has constantly put this man down over and over and continues to speak about her amazing friendship with Tupac, even to this day. She even recently released a letter he gave her when they dated.

The world usually points a finger at all these toxic men who bring women down on the daily. What we don’t speak enough about is how women can be just as toxic.

Jada is the definition of what marrying wrong can do to your life. What once was a private marriage, was exposed, once this toxic women decided the only way she wasn’t going to be seen as just Will Smith’s wife, was to tell the world every single detail about them. Before red table talk we knew nothing about this couple. Her jealousy over his fame speaks volumes.

The slap wasn’t a form of protection as you can even see Will laugh at the joke when it was said. He was also shown crying when they went to a commercial break and being consoled by fellow actors. A man of his caliber is not crying after pulling this act. His speech and his actions are one of a broken man at this stage of his life. What should have been one of the greatest days of his life, was again ruined by her.

Mental health is worth so much more than money and fame. Finding the right partner that can match your mental health and keep it at a healthy level is so important to a successful relationship.

The slap was a man carrying emotional baggage for years due to a women who is clearly in total control of his emotions.

I said what I said….
She’s as toxic as they come!

I think all of this is true. Will is a mess because of her toxic behavior and their kids are in trouble as well. The whole family is nuts. Add in the fact that they dabble in Scientology and you have all the indicators of a mental health crisis for Will. He's lost the plot.

Ed Asner - Up
Bob Saget actually won an Academy Award as a student.
and that is how rumors get started.......he won cash but not a golden oscar which I think the photo essay gives nod to....folks who were inovled Oscar worthy movies....but then again that is how rumors get started....Abe wasn't mention at his death and he will probably be remmbered for his work in Godfather rather than Barney...time will tell.

Scientology too? I didn’t know about that. Yowsa, that’s a whole new level of nuts!

I hope this was his wake up call to seek professional help.

inside edition had a segment with women who have the hair loss ....all agreed that reference was in very bad taste....but so was the violence

Rock compared Jada to another beautiful strong woman. Now if he’d called her Brittany I could possibly understand the upset. It may have been hurtful but it wasn’t mean spirited IMO. It certainly didn’t warrant being cursed and punched on live TV. Totally my opinion.
Good comparison - very true. Gi Jane shaved her head to show she was powerful and determined. Britney on the other hand, shaved her head during a mental breakdown?

I am amazed at the class of Chris Rock. Not because how he handled it in the moment, but also hasn't spoken out about it, besides the little piece in his own show.

It would have been very Hollywoody to just cause a scene and like Jim Carrey suggested sue WS for 200 million.

Whatever step he takes on how and when to discuss it, it will have been thought through, and he will come across as a mature grown up. That he says nothing, really says something about his character. (Or his business sense/managers around him ;) )

He was also shown crying when they went to a commercial break and being consoled by fellow actors. A man of his caliber is not crying after pulling this act. His speech and his actions are one of a broken man at this stage of his life. What should have been one of the greatest days of his life, was again ruined by her.

As we are reminded that Will was crying during the commercial break, when someone from the Academy asked him to leave and he refused, it occurs to me it might not have been belligerence as I previously thought. He could have been sitting there crying, like a child who doesn't want to leave his own birthday party, even though he knows he screwed up. He wants to stay for his birthday cake and presents. He refuses to leave.

Whoopi mentioned people were concerned that Will was having a breakdown. That Denzel and Tyler Perry, and later Bradley Cooper went over to check up on him. Bradley talked and hugged him. After he left Bradley, he could be seen wiping tears away.

Maybe when the Academy person went over to tell him he had to leave, and he wouldn't, s/he said into the headset: "He. . . won't leave."

Control room: "WHAAAT??? What do you mean he won't leave??? What's he doing?"

Academy person: "He's . . . he's crying. He says he doesn't want to go until after his award."

Control Room: "Is he having a breakdown?!?"

Academy person: "I - I don't know. Denzel and some others are hovering around him. . . And then there's Jada. . . We can't remove Will without Jada. If someone looks or says something to her the wrong way, are they going to get slapped too?"

And no one knew what to do. He wouldn't leave quickly and quietly during a commercial break. So, if they try to get him out, in the front row, it would be during live TV. He could slap someone else. Or he could turn into a sobbing, broken mess, as they haul a black man out of the room and have to explain that. (As Whoopi said.) The producers already knew he would win. Maybe they thought just let him have this last win. His life and career are already toast.

Maybe it also explains the standing ovation? :confused3 The audience was sitting in shell shock and traumatized over the slap. :scared: Then they witness Will crying, refusing to leave. Denzel is hovering around. Will & Jada won't accept Chris' apology. And the other nominees in the near audience realizes he might be having a breakdown. We don't know what other subtleties happened during other commercial breaks they witnessed. There is a recording 15 minutes later, before the Memorium, where Denzel is still hovering near Jada. So, it's not like things went back to normal.

Maybe when Will won, the audience was so RELIEVED. "Oh Thank God!" They kind of were held hostage all that time. Maybe they were afraid of what would have happened if he had lost. :scared: They may have stood up and cheered for him just to make it through the speech. Then 20 minutes more and everyone can get out of there.

It's interesting that attendees, hosts (not all but some) are coming out to say they were traumatized, triggered. I watched the show live and came away feeling something. I think the best word is "unsettled".

We have television and movie ratings for a reason. If a show has adult themes, language sex or violence, I am warned of that and can decide if I want to watch it or not. Heck even Dr. Pimple Popper has a warning meaning hey if you are not okay with this don't watch it!

The live awards show has at least a 7 second delay. They silenced Will's vulgar word (should have blurred his mouth too) but chose to show the act of violence when they could have cut away. To make it worse, it was not acting. It was a real person being hurt, violated and humiliated.

I am sure there are many people feeling a similar way. They came to enjoy the pageantry and fluff of an awards show but instead got caught up in real emotions either because of their own life experiences or just because they have genuine human feelings for others. And the number of times it has been replayed on air these last few days? Wow.

Anyone else feel....weird...about the whole thing? (On a personal note, we just don't do violent shows, movies or video games in our home.) I was in the safety of my own home so I'm really curious how attendees (like Lupita) must have felt!

About the language, it shows that Hollywood dwells on emotions and hyperbolic language. In comparison to British English, American English is already very hyperbolic, but Hollywood raises the bar.

Their money is made on heightened emotions.

For the decisions, The Academy made one bad decision after another out of fear of backlash (removing a high profile man of colour). Which in the end made the backlash worse.

I believe this is the gospel truth. I have long thought JPS was a toxic user. Will Smith, for whatever reason, is smitten with her and she sees him as a VEHICLE. HE gets her into events she would otherwise never be invited to, he gets her press coverage, he certainly provides a lot of money and a social media platform. In short, he is the means by which she gets so many things she’d have never gotten on her own. She uses him, and because he willingly obliges, she has zero respect for him. And he’s too blind to see it. Never mind that she consistently signals to the world that she doesn’t respect him. He’s her simp.

I don't think anyone would disagree that she is 100% not a positive person for WS to be around and their relationship seems really unhealthy, however that doesn't excuse WS's actions and choices. 100% he'd be better off without her, but he's CHOOSING to be with her and he's the only one who made the CHOICE to go on stage and assault someone in front of millions of people. I really hope he can get his crap together and start making tough choices to better himself and his health, but at the end ofcthe day he's the only one that can do that and in the meantime he still has to be held accountable for his actions.

If your scenario is true how sad and pathetic of all the decision makers and ppl. who had any part of that. We don't give in to whiney, unstable, bullying behavior. Such a shame.

Will was out of control for what ever reason. He and his family refused to leave when asked by the Academy. Later they were still unfazed and whooped it up at the elite after party. It’s doesn’t add up. There doesn’t seem to be any remorse by the Smiths for their actions or behavior until the following day. It appears they were too important to suffer any repercussions? Well, not until the condemnation began. I don’t think they thought Chris Rock would be seen as the victim. Totally bizarre!

It seems Jada's reaction to the slap is being reported. She laughed when her husband hit Rock....and during his attempt to keep things calm at the ceremonies. Wow, wow, wow!!!!

Well looks like Ms. Jada took down her "love my lack-of hair" tick-tock. Hmmm....
That would have been her PR team. They're not doing the damage control they have a team for that. He had someone write his apology to Chris Roc, too.

Oh I agree wholeheartedly, he was the one who got up on stage. He was the one who slapped CR. He was the one who refused to leave. He is not innocent by any means.

I just think that post showed a different angle of what mindset he could’ve been in. This is not an action normal people take. This is an action of a man who has issues. I’m sorry for that, but it’s still inexcusable.

And I am astounded they let him stay. It just doesn’t make sense.

This hot mess. Do you believe it? Not sure I do. They allowed him to accept the award.

Per Whoopi Goldberg:

"The reason they didn't go and take him out is because that would have been another 15, 20 minute explanation of why we're taking the Black man out five seconds before they're about to decide whether he's won an Oscar or not.

"So that's, and I'm going to say I believe [Oscars producer] Will Packer made the right decision. He said, let's get through the rest of this so we can deal with it wholeheartedly. So that's what went on.”
https://www.newsweek.com/whoopi-goldberg-will-smith-oscars-racial-dynamics-chris-rock-1693276
Oh please, what’s there to explain. A man, who cares what color he is, walked up to another man and assaulted him in front of MILLIONS of people. Would an explanation really have to be necessary?
And since Whoopi decided to mention his race, if he was white would he have been removed?

The fact that this was a reason they didn’t physically remove him, and that he was embraced after, literally and figuratively by the stars in the audience tells you all you need to know about Hollywood.
And yet people will continue to fawn all over them, hold them up on pedestals and idolize all the do and say 🙄
