They are one of the most famous couples on the planet. He has 62 million followers on instagram. He was about to win an Oscar from the front row of the auditorium. They have never LEFT the public eye. Their kids are famous. I simply can't imagine that the amount of attention they already have was put at risk to get THIS kind of attention...on purpose? This isn't a "any publicity is good publicity" situation. Leave that to people are D list celebs or influencers.

Maybe but some people want as much attention as they can get.
Hollywood types live in their own bubbles and are out of touch and probably don’t think there is anything wrong with slapping someone to “defend your wife’s honor”.
We know this is true because after he did it and made his speech he was honored with a standing ovation by the rest of them in the audience. Not to mention the support they are getting from the regular people too. Attention whores like attention, and some celebrities are nothing more than attention whores, Jada being one of them.
Definitely wouldn’t be shocking to find out this was arranged by the Smiths.

I said "ONE of the most famous couples on the planet". Perhaps I should have said in America, but as far as entertainment (let's skip politics and sports) I still maintain they are "one of". Will's movies have made billions. You don't have to be Meryl Streep to be hugely famous.

Top 50? I still consider that "one of" and I'd guess they'd end up on any "most famous couples list" in the entertainment industry.

Anyway, if they "planned" this, then Will is a terrible accomplice since he laughed at the joke first. I don't know what's worse, using violence for clout (and ruining a once in a lifetime evening for yourself) or having a flash of anger that resulted in violence (which is my guess). Also, if that was staged, then his mishmash of BS in his acceptance speech was terrible. A "staged" event would have included a coherent speech.

I love how Jim also called out Gail King for also being one of the spineless people trying to justify Will Smith.

Yes, Will said Denzel Washington said to him after the slap, "At your highest moment, be careful. That’s when the devil comes for you." Will was trying to insinuate that Chris was a devil or hater coming after him. But, there's another way to interpret that sentence. Denzel could have meant one's own ego, thinking one is above it all, has become entitled, privileged, so much so, that one can decide to just walk across a stage and smack someone else if they want to.

ABC said their sources saw Will and Denzel at the Governor's Ball afterward, when there were finally no cameras, the two men were, according to the description, having a long "spirited conversation." Maybe it was then that Denzel was trying to set Will straight on his meaning of that sentence, as in "What the heck were you thinking???"

Meanwhile, TMZ, ABC and Extra have said their sources saw Chris Rock at a different afterparty, and he was still bewildered about the whole incident.

Harvey Levin at TMZ, also reported he personally talked to an extremely, extremely successful and powerful black entertainer who was at the awards, on the phone the next morning. He said that man said, "Every black person in the audience was broken after that slap." There are three extremely, extremely successful and powerful black entertainers I can think of off-hand, who Harvey would have their private phone numbers and would take his call: Denzel, Tyler Perry, and Samuel L. Jackson. Three men who worked so hard to get their achievements, yet still understand how easily, due to social perceptions or a social injustice, it could all be taken away.

Will missed his moment. Denzel is the man…and my crush. Yeah. Will veered in the wrong direction.

Don't feel too bad for Chris Rock--seems as if his comedy tour sales have skyrocketed so much that he has had to add more shows. Maybe that's the lesson in all of this. It's spelled K-A-R-M-A.

For now.. Chris Rock is quiet and the Academy has it under formal review. And that’s not including the LA DA.

Hollywood is fake and fickle. The same ones clapping for WS a few nights ago will turn on him if this goes south
