The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

Yippee I moved up to coral f

Me too! See you there! I think I'll be in a turquoise green tank and black shorts. And greenish sparkly headband. I think I'm going to aim for the back of the corral bc I am JUST at a 2:29 predicted finish and I don't want to go out too fast.

I'm glad your ankle is feeling better enough to run tonight!

Any expo crowd reports yet for today? We are finally heading that way after finishing scouting for food pick up this morning.

Good morning fellow racers!

What does your day look like today? I'm not planning on much, besides laying by the pool at Bonnet Creek. :) Anyone hoping to take a nap before the race? I'd like to, but might be too excited for that to happen.

Dh & I went to the expo for packet pick-up last night ~6:15 and breezed right through. I wish we had more time to look at the vendors, but I did get the pin that I wanted. I loved the " I did it" shirts, but $35 was more than I wanted to spend. Dh offered to buy me the Minnie new balance & I probably should have jumped on it, but again my cheapness won out. ;)

I hope to meet up with you guys tonight. I'll be dressed in a make-shift minnie costume. DD(8) had a ball helping me put white sticky dots all over my skirt/red running tank this morning.

Rest up for tonight! Best wishes!

We arrived today and upon realizing I left my iPhone5 charger at home, I had some minor panic. Did you know there is nowhere on property that sells them? Grrrrr!

I calmed down once we got through pickup and Expo. I liked some of the merchandise but my cheapness set in and I came away with only 2 Bondi Bands and car magnets. LOVED how they handled the I Did It shirt situation. Even though I balked and didn't buy one.

Had a great evening at Epcot, hit Brazil, Australia, Gemany, Poland, and France for a little food and drink and came back to our room and Jacuzzi tub! Ahhhh! New Zealand will be our first stop after the run tomorrow!

My hip feels great and I'm ready to go! Let's run!

If you have not found something, walk up to the concierge desk and ask if one have been turned in. Trust me, they find multiple chargers per day as the reset the room for the next guest.

Ran it this am. Saw three friends in the start area. The morning was a glorious morning for a run. I really enjoyed the snow flurries at the start line!

The race went well. I decided to run/walk and I did have a knee issue on the first 2-3 walk breaks. Nothing to write home about, but enough to make me think I maybe should not be running just yet. Finished with a FLA resident PR for the 5k, about 8 minutes off my real PR.

I thought the course was a nice course. I never really liked the out and back when it followed the train tracks in the middle of the park. Running and being able to see the back side of Everest was kind of fun. This configuration spits you out of the out and back with less than a quarter mile left in the race. Just enough time to pull energy from the last runners you meet and push it out to the finish.

Had an impromptu breakfast at Cat's on the way home. I am sitting here now thinking 'hmmm, maybe' and wondering if I should go ahead and push through tonight. I am still leaning no as a guard to keeping Goofy alive, but now believe that it is very doable.

Hmmmmmmm

Coach- don't push it! Goofy is too challenging to mess with and not very far off....

Anyone have one extra party ticket for tonite? I'm running but my friend needs one. Thanks, Cindy

Best of luck to all running tonight!

I've been unable to check the Disboards much over the last several months, so just popping in to wish all luck!!

Trying to take a nap, but nerves won't let me!

I'm decided on capris and a tank top, but I'll have a long sleeve to wear over it, but to take off & wrap around my waist once we start (standard run procedure for me!).
I'm bringing a fresh long + short slv top and, lol, my blue long pj bottmoms, for after!

Oh, and of course, a pair of gold mickey mouse ears!

G.

Hmmmmm. Not a wink of sleep since 7 a.m.. Watching the Florida Gators play is enough to ruin anyone's sleep!! Looks to be a caffeine aided night coming up!!

Bib #1900, green shirt, green shoes. That's me!

Anyone know if I can give my bracelet for the party to my husband since he has nothing to do? I'm not planning to go to the party, and he will meet me at the finish. My thought was, with that, he could watch at the beach club too.

It's my understanding the runner wrist bands also require a bib.

Quick one:
I am running my first half, don't start until 10:40. I'm weary about arriving at 8:15 and stewing for 2+ hours. Does the shuttle leave after 8 PM from Epcot? Or, can I have my wife drop me off at ESPN around 9?

You have to be on a bus by 8:00, and they do not allow car drop-offs at ESPN. The "waiting game" isn't all that bad. Lots of people to chat with and things to distract you. Good luck!

Great race last night. I will say that running a night race has some unique challenges to it. I missed on prerace fuel big time and payed for it with a post race trip to the medical tent with naseau and dizziness. It would have been nice to have portapotties that were accessible from the finish line without having to leave the runners area. I had a one track mind of getting to the bathroom skipping food, bag check and pictures on the way and almost couldn't make it back to bag check. A nice medical staff person convinced me to go to the medical tent as I was very pail and barely able to sit up. Fortunately once I emptied the contents of my stomach I felt much better almost instantly.

I really struggled from the 15k mark on and finished with a 2:51:37 - 14 minutes off my PR from 2 weeks ago.

I'm not really sure why I woke up before 7 this morning. I'm off to find some breakfast and relax this morning.

If you were still in the med tent a half hour later, I may have seen you there.

I truly hope that everyone had a great race last night. I thought Disney did a great job of improving some of the things we didn't like last year, the entrance into animal kingdom, tho narrow was definitely wider (no posts!), there was at least triple the entertainment and characters on course and the corrals seemed to work beautifully. I know I felt much better pace wise and crowd wise starting the race yesterday than I did last year.

But for me, that's where the fun ended. I finished, in 3:22- a half hour off my time last year, and nearly an hour off my expected time. Nearly everything that could go wrong, went wrong for me. From side stitches, to knee pain, too much humidity i wasnt use to, to nausea at the 11 mile mark - even a darn mosquito attacked my right ankle and I hop/scratched for like 5 minutes!. I was incredulous once again this year, but this time not in a good way. I couldnt believe all this stuff happened! I actually made it to about mile 11.75 or so when I finally let myself say to a medic: I'm done. They asked if I was sure, since I was so close, so I asked to sit down. So I sat for two seconds and then I stood up and vomited. It was awful. And then I felt a lot better and they said i could finish the race if i wanted. I did and from there i did ok but basically I walked 95% of the way from the 15k to the finish. Which is fine, if you are walking like you are intending to walk a race. This walk was more of a omg, get me out of my misery walk.

Silver lining: I ended up getting a coveted photo with jack sparrow and with darth vader. I probably look like I'm about to puke but I got it!

Also, I hate the half strength powerade- I'm 99% that's what did me in. It was EXTREMELY weak. As soon as DH showed up at the med tent and I had some of the salty tortilla chips, I instantly felt better. And i do know this about myself- i need salt. I trained with full strength powerade and never experienced this on any of my long runs. I learned that I definitely need to either bring my own, or some other sodium.

I'm just so disappointed today. I haven't even put on my medal yet. My "support team" says they are proud of me and its not all about the race but I can't shake the feeling that I am somehow not cut out for this and have no business doing Tink and Princess next spring.

So sorry to be a downer today. I know how awesome it does feel to finish the race and be really happy about it (last year was AWESOME for me, even tho the same sickness hit but not until much later in the night after the race). Congratulations to all who ran/walked last night! Watching some of your costumes and just watching the determination of everyone may have been the only thing getting me through!
