The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

PR here! It was my first Half. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Had a great time all around. The only frustration was the crosswalk situation getting back into Epcot. We waited 30 minutes to cross the course. There was rebellion in the air.

Wish I could've had more to eat at the party but post-race tummies can only handle so much.

It's all good and I look forward to wearing my medal today and hobbling around MK!

I ended up doing it!! I got to the expo, saw the medal...and started to think, maybe I can do this. I wish I would have decided while I was there, because I totally would have bought one of the "I Did It" shirts :-( I wish there was still a way to get one!! I finished in 3:36, but considering I just had my gallbladder out 2 months ago - I'm good with that!!

That was AWESOME!!!

I made my goals! I finished (the most important!), I stayed under 3 hours and my pace was 12:47!

I never ran out of breath but boy did my feet swell. My toes hurt today. I even have a blood blister on one of them. I didn't even notice the humidity. I always sweat profusely and this was no different. I drank all 4 of the bottles on my belt and ate 4 or 5 of my Gatorade chews. I tried a sip of the Powerade...yuck! I tried grabbing water at a stop while running and it didn't go well. I tried I drink it on the run and ended up inhaling it and having a coughing fit. Lesson learned...only drink water during the walk intervals;).

I'm chilling here by the pool at AKV while DH is upstairs still sleeping. We had a little food at the party but we mostly enjoyed the Dragonberry smoothie, Eiffel Sour frozen martini and the Grey Goose slushies. Then we staggered back to the room and hit the hay around 5am. We are going to lunch at Sanaa at 1:30 then probably back to Epcot for more of the festival.

Great job everyone! Way to go! Now, how many first-timers are going to do it again?!

Whoohooo! I can't figure out multi quote but to all who have responded this morning so far -CONGRATS!!! I'm super impressed with all of you! 2 months after gall bladder surgery?! Wow!

I am so glad to hear these great stories (among other types of stories too). My running buddy (not here this weekend) reminded me that we were out doing more than 99.95% of the population sitting on their butts....

Which reminds me. To whatever WISHer had on the DNF>DLF>DNS a huge thank you. You got me to the last water stop and med people at mile 11.5.

Woohoo! I finished!! I finished in 3:36. My slowest time ever, but I don't care. I took my time, took pictures and wanted to finish strong! I broke or dislocated my toe at mile 4 and at mile 8 my toenail cracked and came partially off, eek! I skipped the after party, my foot was really aching!
Great job everyone!
Melinda

Congrats to all of the DISers who participated in the weekend events!

Having just started running this year, I'm addicted to runDisney events, and have gained an enormous amount of respect for everyone who gets off the couch and starts their own journey.

And I will see you at Wine & Dine 2014!!! :grouphug:

I did not start out too fast. Most of my miles were even paced. I even stopped for 3 photos--jack sparrow, balloo & toy story.

1:53:27. Hearing my name/city/state as I crossed the finish line to high five Mickey was AWESOME! This being my first half--I had no clue they do that!

And my BEST FRIEND surprised me at the finish line! (She lived across the street from me as a child but is now a local)

I, too, have been up since early this AM.
We skipped the after party, though.

Congrats, all!
Figment - I'm so sorry you had a tough race. (((Hugs)))

Thanks! Congratulations on that AWESOME time! Amazing! Had I been feeling well i still wouldn't have been close to that. How fun to fly fast! :)

Jack sparrow was too much for me to pass up! I thought it was going to be Peter Pan and jogged past and then literally jogged back to get in line when I saw who it was.

Wow the world showcase is packed today!

Hey everyone- congrats to everyone on finishing, and yes, dealing with challenges along the way. DH was quite sick all week with the cold so we took our time, and then at mile 9.5 he pulled his Achilles and we walked the rest of the way. Finished in 3:31:40. Time doesn't matter, the finish and the medal are what counts! Feeling pretty good today, did some sampling at Epcot, now back for a little rest before packing and dinner. 3:45am magical express. Yikes! I was at the globe for a little bit but DH was antsy so we moved along to the field.

First,

CONGRATS to all!!! If this was your first half, welcome to the club. Less than 1% of the population will get up off a couch and run a 5k; much less a half marathon. Enjoy your weekend and wear you medal for the remainder of your trip. You EARNED it.

For me, I am glad I kept to my guns; deciding on a training run this AM. I ran about 13 miles - though I am uncertain as the Garmie decided to pick this morning as it's day to need a recharge. I did put a 20-30 minute break in the middle of the run to grab a knee brace and rub the knee down a bit. All in all, it was a slow and steady jog this morning.

I've got a couple quick thoughts about it on my blog (plus a meet up recap!)

http://margaritasmilesandmouse.blogspot.com/2013/11/sum-it-up-sunday-wine-and-dine-half.html

Basically- it wasn't you, runDisney, it was me. I don't think I'm a night runner. Though I still want to give ToT a shot next year.

Love the bling though!

I hear you. I am so hoping that runD does not continue with the night runs as it expands on each coast in the next couple years. While unique and running in the dark has a couple advantages like a loss of distance acumen and lower humidity, it is clear that the night races tear me up for a good 7-10 days. I guess have 55 years under the feet make a 5-8 hour swing in sleep patterns tough to swallow. The sad thing is that a 10 pm start is not that far off a 3 AM start... a time that in my IM days I was headed out the door for a run, a spin ride or the pool.

I will return for the ToT as well. I really like 10k and 10 mile races. They are the perfect distance to force you to manage pace and hydration but short enough that one can still feel like they are pushing.

I hear you on the night race. I think I'll stick to morning races for halves or fulls. Its too hard for me to sleep/rest during the day and fueling was just too challenging.

I have also decided I need to not stop for lemon lime powerade anymore. This is the second race I have wrecked my stomach after drinking it. I would have been better off with water around mile 9.

Oh and because I am cruising for a brusin' I decided it would be a great idea to visit all 3 parks we ran through last night and get pictures with my Medal. I'm on the 3rd and final DHS now. Hoping to see Fantasmic! and the lights tonight.

Oh peachy! U make me laugh. We stuck to Epcot today but what I missed out at the party last night I'm making up for today. Lol. Hope I'm saving enough room for our flying fish celebratory dinner tonight. Tomorrow is magic kingdom and then home.

And back to the drawing board. I have some training plans to revisit for Tink and Princess....

I hope you find the Osborne Halloween Cat!

Can anyone let me know if the Expedition Everest Challenge was on any promotional materials handed out this weekend for rD?
I've got my flights booked and am eagerly awaiting word on what is going on. Just in case I am planning on being ready for a 10k. Hoping if they do extend the distance it won't be more than that!
Forgot to add CONGRATS to everyone who ran this weekend - I cannot wait to build up to one day doing a half like all of you!

Sorry I missed everyone at the meet up:( it was my first time at WWoS and I was so disoriented, confused, nervous etc. I just couldn't find where everyone was. it would have been nice to meet some if you.
Next time, I guess ;)

Has anyone looked at their photos yet? For some reason I have no character photos. Does anyone else? I haven't gone through all the "lost and found" ones bc how could they miss my bib in a posed picture, but I am really hoping something happened. I will seriously be upset if I can't find the pictures. And no, I did not have a camera of my own with me - didn't need it last year just paid the ridiculous price from the photo company for the one photo stop i made. I would have thought they would have told us had we needed out own camera for the characters - why were there camera people there if the company didn't take photos.
