How horrible!!!! I would have taken Disney up on their offer after all those individuals helped to tarnish your stay. We are going during Thanksgiving and I hope they have fixed the problems (thanks to the heads up from you). I for one won't tolerate the items posted in your review.

Oh by the way what were the problems with the boat? Did they get them resolved?

They had some type of mechanical problem with the larger boats that evening. They eventually started using the small blue flag boats to take people from MK to WL, but those boats don't hold very many people. I did see the larger boats the next day so I guess all was well with them.

I am an absolute Disney addict and have been going for over 30 years, but every year my experiences with cast members are causing me concern. There are still those wonderful cast members that try to make your trip extra special, but then there are the others that really bring you down. It just seems that we run into more and more unhappy CM's and less of the magical ones that actually enjoy their job. Hoping that the IGER era will return things to the vision that Walt had!

I'm with you on this! We just returned yesterday from WL. Took my 70 yr. old ftaher for his 1st trip to WDW, and chose WL because I knew he would love it as we did. Ended up having a few really rough experiences. A front desk cast member banged on my door the 1st night at after 11:00 pm wanting my bag claim tickets (Delta was sending our luggage late). I took allergy medicine, was in a very deep sleep, so didn't hear the knocking. She woke up others on my hallway, including Dad. When I finally heard her, I had to pull the bed cover off before answering (no luggage-no luggage). She yelled that she was oing to get maintenance to open my door if I didn't. I asked her to please be quiet so as not to wake my dd8. I also asked her to wait at the door, but she came all the way into my room past my sleeping dd. It was truly unbelieveable, and embarrassing to be standing there wrapped in the bed cover. The front desk manager, Mark, blamed my family for the problem (my aunt was partially responsible, I agree), then asked me what I "expected him to do". I was in tears - this is not the way Disney has treated me, ever, and here I was bringing Dad to get away after Mom's death from cancer. I had told him how magical WDW was and how the cast members treat everyone like royalty. Anyway, we got fruit baskets the next day. It felt like a "hush" gift. We ran into several other indifferent cast members, like our housekeeper, and even a few rude and abrupt ones. It seemed unreal compared to my past Disney experiences. I can't express how disappointed and sad I am - a lot of planning and money on a family trip that didn't impress my family. I'll always love WDW, and I hope one day I can afford to try the WL again and find the magic that was missing. :sad1:

The box is no longer there. It went missing for some time then someone found it and mailed it to me. I have quite a collection of memories in it. One day I need to photo all of it and put it on a webpage somewhere.

I've thought about doing another one but am not sure yet....

....BOTH are great ideas!!

BTW ~ AspiringCindy will b going on her DIScruise in about a week....hope she posts before she leaves......*ahem*, Ju-u-u-u-u-die.....!

Sorry I am so late in posting ... it has been crazy since we returned.

We stayed at the WL from October 19- 25th for our honeymoon with our three kids. We had booked back in February two standard rooms and we got our paperwork indicating we had guaranteed connecting and a request for bunk beds. Long story short between February and our trip Disney Reservations managed to screw up our ressies in a fine way. So much that I wouldn't call them any more because whenever we did they screwed things up worse.

Check in was well ... and interesting experience. Knowing we could be in for problems given the state of our ressies my DH took the three kids DD14, DS11 and DS 10 to sit in the lobby while I "duked it out" at the check in desk. At first all they could find was one room ... then they found the second room under my husband's name (I didn't take his name). This was weird because I had booked and paid for both rooms. I then asked if they were connecting ... and she said "Yes they are adjoining". I shook my head and said are connecting and adjoining the same thing? ... knowing full well they weren't. Then I asked if one of the rooms had bunk beds ... and she said they didn't. SIGH ....

So I showed her all the various paperwork that I had been sent over the months from Disney Reservations and went onto explain to her the problems I had with them. I also pointed out that we are on our Honeymoon with the three kids so at the very least I wanted them to find us our guaranteed connecting rooms.

She asked me for all my paperwork and disappeared into the back office for 20 minutes !! When she returned she told me that they had moved us to a courtyard view (a double upgrade), they were connecting rooms AND we got our bunkbeds that we requested.

WHEW !!!

Our other experiences dealing with the front desk were also enough to shake ones head at ...

On our first night my son hurt his leg and by the second day couldn't put weight on his right leg so we got him a wheelchair at Epcot. We then quickly realized that getting back to WL was going to be a challenge. They allowed us to take the wheelchair out to the bus stop where we used it to get him onto the bus. At the WL the family waited on the benches at the bus stop while I raced up to the front desk to get a wheelchair for him. Since we had stayed at Epcot till 12:00 (read midnight) it was now pushing 1:00 in the morning. When I got to the front desk I had to wait in line for over 15 minutes then the woman I got barely spoke english. She wasn't sure what to do and had to go ask for help. I finally got a wheelchair and filled out the paperwork ... I returned to the bus stop 40 minutes later with the wheelchair.

The night before we checked out we went to the front desk to enquire about getting my son to the airport and needing a wheelchair both on the Magical Express and at the airport and to board the plane. NO ONE knew what to do ... and they told us to check with the airline check in desk outside the front of the hotel in the morning. At 7:00 a.m. we went out to the airline check in desk and they too had no idea what to do. We tried the front desk one more time and still no luck.

I then went back up to our room and called the Magical Express myself. They suggested that we use the hotel wheelchair to get onto the bus ... and call the airline to arrange for them to meet us at the bus with a wheelchair. So I called Northwest and they were great. They were going to have a wheelchair waiting and a "transfer" chair for him to board the plane with. They also made arrangements for us to be met at the airport in Minneapolis when we arrived.

I went back to the front desk to find out how to go about signing the wheelchair back in ... but still maintain use of it till we boarded the bus. I ended up with the same non english speaking woman that got me the wheelchair in the first place. SIGH ... she didn't know what to do. She went to the other end of the counter and was talking to two other women who looked confused by what she was telling them. I proceeded to walk down to the other end of the counter and told them myself what I needed. They both said OHHHH !!! ... just sign it out now and give it to the Valet at the front of the hotel when you leave. They then went to get the book that has all the wheelchair paperwork in it ... guess what ... our paperwork was nowhere to be found !!

We did have a great vacation ... but a deluxe hotel really needs to spend more time training their staff. They also should ensure that the front staff have enough of a grasp of the english language that they can service the guests efficiently. It was very frustrating dealing with the front desk staff.

So ... now that all of the negative is done with ... I am going to put up a seperate post with all the GREAT things that happened during our "Vacation Moon" :bounce:

Cheers,
Norma

We leave for DCL and a night at POR in 3 days. The nerve of Disney selling out WL and not contacting me first! I'm really bummed that I won't be staying at WL this time...but I think I'll get over it quickly as I sip my Pina Colada on deck while we pull out of port listening to "When you wish upon a star" blow on the ship's horn!
Fred, do you know if I would be allowed to park in WLs lot for a few hours as long as I have the POR sign in my window! I know that the Poly forbids this practice and tows people after a few hours, but WL is much more flexible!?

I was there at the WL the same time as you and your family. Also had several frustrating experiences with non-English speaking cast members. Very difficult for my 70 yr. old father who has lost some of his hearing. He couldn't understand the cast members who didn't speak English well. The front desk manager, Mark, seemed rather irritated when I had to talk to him about the intrusion into my room by one of his employees. Sounds like the WL has some issues to work on. You're right - for what it costs to stay at a deluxe WDW resort, we deserve better. It makes it even more difficult to accept when you love the WL!!!
:worried:

I'm so envious of you and your cruise, I can just hear the ship's horn now. Have a Pina Colada for me...you should be able to visit the Lodge with no trouble with your POR parking permit I believe I was at the Lodge more than I was at CSR when I stayed there the first of October.

Hello,
Headed to Wl first week in feb and have a few questions. Are there dorm size fridges in all the rooms or do we need to request one? What would be the best way to get to the GF for an ADR? Does the Lodge have any special events for the kids like treasure hunts etc?
Thanks.
I'm sure you are the people to know! :wave2:

We just got back from a week on WL Club level two days ago. We had a very good stay, but did have a few problems with cast members. I know that they were booked full for the first few days--largely due to the combination of Halloween and the hurricane evacuees from South Florida. Still, many of the cast members were surly, visibly tired and appeared to be unhappy to have us staying there. :confused3

Didn't ruin my trip in the least, though. And I'm already planning for next year.

Hello everyone

I am pretty new here to the DIS Boards and I am planning our Dec 06 trip to the WL for ten days

I have a few questions and I attempted to go throught the whole thread but WOW is it long. So I apologize if you guys have answered these questions numerous time before and any help or advice you can give I will love it :flower:

First I am trying to decide between a standard or a lodge (woods view, I think) room. I am just unsure if the lodge view room is worth the extra money :confused3. I did read the first pages where it stated that the standard rooms have service area views or roof views, if I decided to go with a standard room is there a way to request a standard room that is not a service area view? Would you even stay in a standard room? So many choices.

This is my first challenge to booking our stay after this one is conquered I am sure that I will have many more questions fro all you WL Vets out there. Thanks for your help so far and I will continue to pludge through this whole thread... Wish me luck ;)

If you are going to be in your room alot, then I would say the extra money would be worth it for the view. If you are just going there to sleep, then I would say no. Also, if you are wanting bunk beds, they are not in standard view rooms anymore.

We had a woods view room, which had a view of the castle through the trees. Have fun planning and ask away, you will get lots of good info here.

Has anyone stayed at the WL recently and had any luck with happy CM's? It seems lately on this thread and others people have commented how nice WL was except for CM. TIA

We had a wonderful time during our first visit to WL and the CM's were great during our stay (the end of Aug-beginning of September)! The CM's at the food court, WCC, front desk, mercantile and mousekeeping were all very helpful and friendly. I loved the "Welcome Home" greeting at check-in. It's a great resort! My family wants to go back there...sooner rather than later!!

Thanks for responding. This will be our first time visiting WL and with all the negative comments we were wondering if we should switch to another hotel.

I am correct when I say that the standard rooms have balconies?? Also would the standard rooms be really noisey? We are going for a while so we probably would be in our room a little more than usual. I am fine with the standard room as long as it has a balcony and is not too loud. Thanks again for all the help and advice :earboy2:
