I posted this under theme parks..... but we are going to disney next week (staying at the dolphin) We have never been in sept. Just wondering if anyone has tips for dealing with the rain. we will have our 1yr old with us!

Thanks

Hi chimommy! I have handled rain both in Sept and in Feb...and I'd much rather handle rain in Sept than in Feb! The rain in Sept is welcomed as it is so hot and it cools the temps down a bit. It was just showers, maybe lasting a few minutes to an hour or so, but never an all day rain. Even when Hurricane Hanna went through, it didn't rain all day! Definitely be prepared with a poncho of some sort and duck into a ride or a store...the rain can pelt down pretty hard.
Rain in February though? :sad2: Cold, all day, miserable soaking wetness! You'll be fine in September and enjoy your trip. :cheer2:

Hi chimommy- One tip I would give is to get a rain cover for your stroller, and cover it up whenever you go in to an attraction- rain storms can come on with surprising quickness! If you don't have a rain cover, I would think rain ponchos from the dollar store would do the trick. Also, bring an extra pair of shoes or sandals (well broken in), so that if your shoes get soaked, you can have something to wear while they dry. An extra pair of socks for everyone, each day in the parks, can make all the difference, too! And don't worry- as lissiesmum said, the rain is usually short in duration, and the cloud cover is usually a welcome relief!
Have a magical trip!

So excited. We've decided to attend our first MNSSHP this year!! pirate:

Last minute decision, but still great prices available at the Dolphin. It was cheaper with an AP discount to stay at the Dolphin than it was with the AP discount at POR.

Yeah! We had a great stay last March and are looking forward to going back in two short weeks.

You're going to love the MNSSHP! We went our first year at WDW and we still talk about it to this day. DD's in school now, so we'll never get there again but the memories we had there will last a lifetime!

In exactly 1 week... I will be getting married at the Swan!!!

Congratulations, what an amazing place to get married!

Congratulations.

Hope your day is filled with lots of pixies dust!

Thanks to all of you who keep this thread with all this great info.

I'm checking into the Swan on Saturday for 1 week and can't wait. I'm actually already in FL doing non Disney stuff but looking forward to my first Swan stay.

Which is better the Swan or Dolphin? We have two boys 11 & 13. The pool and quick snacks will be the biggest concern.

Just booked the Swan for first week in March 2011:cool1:

5 days ago there were 14 rooms left at the lowest AAA rate-today there was only ONE left and I snatched it:banana:

I am very excited to stay in a Boardwalk ares hotel-biggest pluse is we like to go to Epcot at night-but dread the bus ride back to WL or AKL-now we can walk leisuely back to the hotel!:thumbsup2

Please tell me how this works exactly. I am going in two weeks & would love to get an upgrade for a $20 tip. What do I need to do? TIA for your help!!:)

Is there a thread on "the $20 tip at check-in" method? :)

I'd love to know if SPG members are more likely to get the upgrade (which I would expect, though I wouldn't expect to tip for), and also whether those paying rack rates are more likely to get the upgrade vs those on special offers (which is what I would expect, and since I got a pretty good rate for my stay, would be willing to tip for).

Do I just slide $20 onto the counter and say "Is it possible to get an upgrade?". I've never done that before, so I'd feel a bit weird doing it. :cool2:

Any advice for a tipping-to-upgrade newbie is appreciated! :worship:

Does anyone know if the Dolphin/Swan charges for package delivery? I mean if I ship a box do they charge to hold and deliver? Also, what about a grocery delivery from an outside service (ex. Garden Grocer or WeShop)?

Thankyou! :flower3:

...but it doesn't say how much (and now of course I can't find the place where I saw it on the website, but it was just a few weeks ago that I saw the info).

I always send a bunch of packages to my hotel to get my US shopping done without having to actually go out shopping, so if anyone knows what the Swan charges to receive packages, please share the info here.

Thanks!

I have never had a LOT of packages sent to the Swan, for my pickup during a stay, but I have had packages delivered on a number of trips, was never charged anything by the hotel.

I usually stay at the Swan, but last December I did a split stay between AKL and WL. I spent most evenings at Epcot, and I REALLY missed being able to walk back to the resort when the park closed. As nice as AKL/WL are, I'll take an Epcot resort any day (especially my beloved Swan) over having to take a bus from Epcot to the resort!

Just had to cancel my room at the Dolphin next year as we have changed our plans and booked to go on the Disney Dream instead :thumbsup2 Any ideas how long it takes for the first night accomodation to be refunded back onto your card the email didnt say?:confused3

Good news though just booked for the Mandara Spa via the VIP concierge service :thumbsup2
