JoBird - I have checked in at 1:00 a.m. for RPC. As janeapplemeadow posted, we had to check in at the front desk, as the CL cast members were off duty - but we were the only ones there, lol. Pretty easy, the RPC cast members had left my packet with the front desk, so we just had to grab it and go to the room.:thumbsup2

HFC1969 - YAY! Getting close.:dance3:

Construction Update

Here is the listing of interesting items from paperwork filed with Orange County in the last week:

Grand Floridian Villas project – installation of temporary path with landscaping work.

I also found this filing from May:

STOLport – installation of trailer compound for Grand Floridian Villas project.

(Anyone know what STOLport refers to in this case? I only know of it in reference to airports.)

Does this mean the new villas could be started (and possibly completed) before the new Fantasyland expansion is done?

I can't wait to see them. :goodvibes

WDWKOOK - Thanks for that info! Well, looks like they are conceding that it IS a villas project, at any rate.

I've never heard of a STOLport, but I found this on Google: http://progresscityusa.com/2010/01/11/retroworld-the-lake-buena-vista-stol/ I can't see how it would relate to the filing, but interesting nonetheless.
Thank YOU for the great retro WDW link. The article shows a photo of the location of the WDW STOLport just south of the WL/FTW area. (I can just picture the WDW plane in my signature landing there).

They still refer to this area as the STOLport and that is where the "GF Villa trailer compound" is going to be located. This is from the article:

For well over a decade now, the airstrip has been used for a variety of purposes from providing a staging area for construction equipment or shipping containers to a parking lot for buses. It’s been paved over with concrete, but it’s still there – most guests probably don’t even notice it as they’re headed to the Magic Kingdom.

OH! Good catch. As you can tell, I skimmed the article. Very interesting indeed.
Couldn't have done it without you:thumbsup2. I just love retro WDW history. That article was so interesting. It's too bad the concept never caught on though. Just imagine being able to land next to the MK parking lot and being whisked away by a shuttle to your resort. Now that's what I call DMEpixiedust:

Thanks. I am trying to get better with my night shots. Some of the real photographers on these boards are about two years ahead of me. I keep playing and practicing but I just don't feel like I'm there yet. But hey there is alot of fun in trying to improve.

Really making me wish I was there right now! Please keep these beautiful pictures coming! :goodvibes

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: No kidding!

KC Mike - Very nice! would you mind if I put this pool shot on the first page? I don't have many shots of an empty pool.

That's one handy airstrip, WDWKOOK! Disney history is endlessly fascinating.

Now, if they could find a plane to pick me up, too. There is a slim chance that our trip to the U.S. may be disrupted by a large ash cloud from a Chilean volcano that has made its way across to Oz. There have been days of flight cancellations. I can only hope that it dissipates sufficiently to allow us to take to the skies on Monday.

The only thing I have to say is "wow"... just "wow" I can't believe they're making another DVC resort... :sad2:

KCMike Beautiful pics! :goodvibes You're making it really hard for me to keep from booking GF instead of AKL!

I've heard about this construction for months now, and still am not sure how I feel about it. It will be exciting to see the plans for the new building, but part of me thinks that the GF is best left unchanged in the manner of adding more accommodations and the guests that will fill those rooms. But that's not to say I wouldn't be interested in buying points there given a fair price and a points chart that isn't too extreme.

Cali-D - My thoughts exactly. I'm intrigued to see what they will do with it, but not thrilled with the idea.

followthatmouse - Oh, no!:guilty: Sending pixie dust your way, that your flight will take off as scheduled and you'll have the magical vacation you've been planning.pixiedust:

kaffinito - tough choice! Pretty hard to make a bad one.:goodvibes

:scared1: I'm sending some pixiedust: too! I hope you make it!

I thought I'd mention I've been adding photos to the first page over the last couple days. Gingerbread house, some shops, Mizner's, restaurant photos (especially Citricos - I got carried away on our last visit:laughing:).

followthatmouse - I've forgotten, where do you go before WDW? I think you have several destinations planned.

Thank you for all of your continued work on this wonderful thread, k&a&c'smom! :cheer2: I don't think that it's possible to have too many pictures of the GF! :cloud9:

Hi guys!

I'm trying to get a little information on Sugar Loaf.
We've stayed gv and tpv at GF, CL at YC and BC.

We're doing two days at a monorail resort before heading over to
15 glorious nights BC CL. Originally we had booked Poly TPV CL,
but the kids got nostalgic and asked to switch over to the GF. The
GF is where we went when they were very little and we spent most
of our time at MK.

Anyway, long story short, I'm looking for any information I can get on
Sugarloaf. Do you like poolview or marina view better? Any rooms to
ask for, or to watch out for?

Can you tell me about the CL offerings - what type of afternoon and evening offerings. I'm pretty sure the breakfast will be similar to BC and YC CL, although I did notice that the GF CL has turkey and ham for breakfast!~

Thanks!
