The NEW Disney's Contemporary Resort FAQ with PICTURES! (Feb 2008)

I've really been contemplating whether to try squeezing our whole family in at Contemporary or not - we'd need to use a travel crib for the youngest but I'm SO tempted to do it, even with the tight quarters (there will be 6 of us, with the baby)...

Well the rooms at CR are larger than most, and it is still going to be tight, but I think, all the positives of CR greatly out way being a little cramped in the room. I would go for it!

I believe the standard rooms at the Contemporary are the biggest ones in all of WDW.

Wow. I love those pictures. What a great view! I am so glad you mentioned about the music being played on the tv b/c I wondered about that.

We are leaving next month for CR and I was just able to add an extra night! We have a MK view room & really looking forward to it. We are planning on taking it easy & enjoying the resort, Chef Mickey's, Wave, etc & a couple trips over to MK & DTD. At this time, we are not planning to go to any other parks.

Can anyone suggest any activities around the resort? As far as the movies that are offered outside, what days are those?

Well there are a couple shops you check out, there is an arcade, and probably one of my favs just ride the monorail around, Maybe from CR--then ride it around all the way back to CR. Or may take the EP line and ride it full circle.

Don't forget taking the Resort Monorail to vist at the Polynesian and Grand Floridian. Plus the blue flag boat which goes to the Wilderness Lodge.

Has anyone shipped themselves a box of snacks or bottled water to the CR. I was thinking where we will not have a car I would ship water/snacks ahead of time. Anything special I should put on the box? Also, if anyone has done this did you ever have any trouble with getting your package once you got to CR?

Anyone?

It seems to me someone posted about doing that on the old CR FAQ thread. If my memory is correct it was in connection with a wedding. As I recall, they had to pick up their package at the business center in the convention center and were surprised to be charged a fee for the hotel having to handle the package. You might want to check out that thread for the specifics or at least call the hotel and ask about the current policy.

We just left the CR this morning. We're a family of 5 and the rooms are quite large. We were pretty comfortable. I could easily see fitting a crib in.

Of course, there is the usual morning rush for the bathroom.

lumpy08 - sorry I did not sign on till now -7:55 PM

To send a box to yourself - not a problem
We have always done this when we go to WDW.

To Do:
The top side of the box with the address:
--------------------------------------------------------
To:
Walt Disney World
Contemporay Resort
4600 North World Drive
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

Please hold for : Your Name
Arrival date: MM/DD/YY

-----------------------------------------------------

Then on all other sides of the box write:
Please hold for : Your Name
Arrival date: MM/DD/YY

----------------------------------------------------------

If you write your name and arrival date on all sides of the box, it will be easier for the CM to find your box when you arrive.

We use UPS for shipping. Our box usually arrives a day before we do.
The resort will store the box for you. Check with your mail carrier on what day your should mail the package to arrive the day before or day of your arrival at the WDW (what ever day you want the package to arrive).

Here are main difference between the Magic Kingdom view from your room and from the 4th floor observation deck. From your room it's going be a lot more private so only with family members. From the 4th floor there will be a lot of people out there watching the fireworks since it's a public location, so if you want a good spot it's best to get there early.
I did a little math and w/ my AAA disc the diff between Tower MK and Tower Bayside for 2 nights is about $70. I decided I'm sticking w/ my childhood dream to stay at the CR for 2 nites. :lovestruc

I'm sure the garden rooms are lovely too, and if we fall in love w/ the convenience of the CR that's probably where we'll stay next trip as that would shave over $200 off the price for 2Nites. Basically we normally stay value or Mod so this is a BIG leap. But for this trip, it's all about staying in the Tower, FW from the room, going to sleep w/ the castle, and waking up to the castle. I really am very excited...it's just this current economy makes it so hard to spend that kind of $$$$.

What a shame! I hate that Disney seems to be taking away all those special little touches that used to make it so special (remember the sweet bedtime stories they used to run each night?). :sad2:
I LOVED those stories. They were so great to settle the children down w/ at night. We thought they just didn't do them at the mod we stayed at. But when we returned to ASMo they weren't shown there either. Such a shame. They were great!

Where is it that place where you can look online the week before you leave to see your room code? I love to check my ressie many times and many ways to make sure it has not dropped into a black hole somewhere (which would of course be a giant hidden mickey somewhere in the hidden tunnels at DW).:rotfl2:

Congragulations on finally realizing your childhood dream. :thumbsup2

I know you can check your reservations online if you register on the Disney World website, however they don't show what your room code would be. I do know the code is listed on the confirmation you should have got in your e-mail.

I have stayed in the tower twice and never stayed in concierge level, your post was very helpful in planning my next stay at the CR.:thumbsup2

Thanks! Funny thing...I never mentioned how much I wanted to stay here to anyone in the family as I feltit was just so much $$. Then when we began planning this next trip my ds8 asked if we could stay at the CR as he wanted to stay where the Monorail went through the hotel and where Chef Mickey's was just steps away. My dd5 echoed his sentiments. So, after securing AAA rates, I brought it up to dh and we've decided to keep quiet about it and surprise the kids! They know I'm trying to get 2N there.....but I keep telling them I can't get it. Which was true for quite a while. I couldn't snag AAA Tower park view for the longest time! I can't wait until we pull up front of the CR and they realize that's our hotel!!!!!:cool1: :cool1:

ms ojo, I'm with you. As you can see from my name, my secondgradememories are from the Contemporary, and I've kept quiet about my hope to go back there for quite a few years. This year, my husband surprised me (he always seems to know what I'm secretly wishing for, lucky me). So, now, after many years, I'm headed back to the place where my love of Disney began! I have a feeling things will have changed since 1976:hippie: , but I think some of my memories will still hold true! I hope the CR is all you hope it to be!

2ndgrade memories: When are you going? There's just something so specaial about that hotel!!! Thanks for your good wishes!!! I hope it's just as magical for you too!!!!:lovestruc

Has anyone ever had any luck snagging an AP discount on a Tower room?

I know we probably wouldn't be able to get the discount for
Dec.30th - Jan.1st..but I was wondering if it might be possible for the rest of our stay.

It's been SO long since we've stayed at the Contemporary that we got a discount on our last stay with the Magic Kingdom Gold Club!!

Does anybody remember that?? It was so awesome! I still have my little luggage tag..mini-binder..and membership card.:goodvibes
