The NEW Disney's Contemporary Resort FAQ with PICTURES! (Feb 2008)

I think it's every night, or close to it. This past week it started at 9pm. They set up a blow-up screen on the beach and you can see it from the pool. Lots of people put lounge chairs on the beach to watch it.

We saw Finding Nemo one night and I noticed they were showing Lilo and Stitch another night.
When my family and I stay there this August I would not mind seeing the movies from there, just for the experience of doing it.

Those prices do not include tax so 484 plus tax for two nights sounds like it would equal the price you got as well.
The dates are for June 24-26, 2008.

I'm with you on this, I love the view.

DH and I are Outer Rim fans, too!

In 2005 we were told it would be moving to the first floor as part of what is now the Wave, which supposedly has a "super lounge".

Last month we were told that in January it will be moving to where the current Grab & Go is. It will be much smaller but will keep the Outer Rim name. It will still be on the Bay Lake side and there are windows there so the view will be a little farther north than the one it presently has.

Of course, all that can change as Disney plans often do.

I remember a couple of questions:

What activities are offered?

What are the life vests like?

I'm putting all my other pictures in the photo thread.

Anyone have any experience with shipping a box to CR, and how that is handled? Flying with luggage restrictions.:worried:

Thanks mky:cutie:

Has anyone ever had any luck snagging an AP discount on a Tower room?

I know we probably wouldn't be able to get the discount for
Dec.30th - Jan.1st..but I was wondering if it might be possible for the rest of our stay.

It's been SO long since we've stayed at the Contemporary that we got a discount on our last stay with the Magic Kingdom Gold Club!!

Does anybody remember that?? It was so awesome! I still have my little luggage tag..mini-binder..and membership card.:goodvibes

It certainly never hurts to ask. I didn't think there was a prayer of an AP discount in July, esp. since I called in June, but there you go! Tower room MK view, I think around 384 a nite. I was thrilled!

This info might be helpful to have on the first page of this thread as no doubt more air travelers will be shipping boxes to themselves at the CR.

I thinks so too... especially with all the fuel prices and how all the airlines are charging for the second bag and all that stuff...

I ended up calling CR yesterday and asked about shipping a box to myself. And the info in the preious post was correct of what to put on the box. She said just to try and have it arrive a day or two proior to your arrival. I also asked about shipping water to the hotel and she said that was fine as well. We will not have a car. I am going to use Staples. (with the teacher card there are no limits on amount to ship - otherwise I think there is a $50 min, but you could always buy ink or something)

Anyone have any experience with shipping a box to CR, and how that is handled? Flying with luggage restrictions.:worried:

When I shipped a USPS package to myself at CR, it arrived at CR only 36 hours from the time I left it on my front step for my mail carrier, so it waited for me at CR for several days, LOL! When we checked in, the CR staff had already delived it to our room. A great example of the exceptional service we received at CR. :wizard:

Stayed at the CR Atrium Club this past weekend (06/13-15) and wanted to check in with y’all.

DS3 loved, loved, loved riding the monorail over and over and with it going through the GC Concourse it was like an attraction in and of itself. DS3 and DS5 and DH all really liked the pool. While it is not themed per se, the relative lack of crowding and the big slide were a hit with both DS.

While I think the food offerings at the Poly club are better / more varied, the Atrium Club offerings were nice and the staff was friendly / accommodating. Viewing the fireworks in the club lounge and then returning to our bay lake room to catch the EWP was a real treat.

Of course the shopping and the arcade at the CR cannot be beat.

On to a topic of fresher interest: The Wave.
We ate at The Wave for breakfast. Organic coffee for me. DH tried it and liked it enough to add an order for himself. It is “real” coffee and brought in the stay warm carafes. I put it up there with the coffee at Kona. Different “notes” – a bit fruitier but really nice. Children had standard milk, choc milk. OJ was good – a bit pulpy for me but I know many people like that fresh-squeezed texture.

DH had the ham and cheese omelet (good) which came with skillet potatoes (ok) and bacon (standard WDW) and biscuit (fantastic). We live in the South and are a bit picky about biscuits – these were good! I had the multigrain pancakes (3 large) which had good flavor but a bit “heavy” – 2 cakes were plenty to feel full. The very small dish of fruit compote was a nice counterpoint. I opted for the $4 upgrade to the chicken sausage over bacon / sausage. 4 small-med sausages with a bit of a sage flavor - a big hit with my kids who stole them from me. DS3 had child egg, bacon, potato, biscuit child’s meal ($5.09) with an extra egg – both over hard and done properly. Again the biscuit (with honey) was a huge hit with him! DS5 had the silver dollar pancakes (not multigrain – just standard cakes) with bacon and ate about half of the 4? cakes.

Service was fine but not special. The space is cavernous and nearly empty when we ate – Sunday 920a. Not really “discovered” yet. Overall, I would eat here again. This is NOT the same experience as eating Tonga Toast / macadamia nut pancakes at Kona. It is much more relaxed / relaxing and more healthy. When we left, I did not feel like I had eaten my daily intake of fat / sugar in one meal like I do at Kona (as much as I really like their food). I would eat here for breakfast if staying at CR for sure. I would seriously consider an ADR here if I had multiple breakfasts to schedule and I was on a monorail / direct boat ride away. I’m not sure how much of a “destination” dining experience The Wave will become – at least for breakfast.

The Wave is definitely worth a try! :thumbsup2

Thanks for posting your review, I enjoyed reading it and it's great you enjoyed the Contemporary. :thumbsup2

We stayed at Poly in March 08 and CR in June 08.
There is a "live" chef preparing dishes at Poly - stirfrys e.g. vegetable lo mein (thursday) and such - during the evening hours. It seems to add to the freshness and the conviviality. One thing for sure is the CR lounge was less noisy and a bit more civilized.

The fruit tray seems more extensive at Poly but it may just be there is more pineapple. There are drink dispensers with lemonade and the tropical juice punch in addition to the sodas, glass bottle Evian, beer/ wine. There is an adult beverage (fruity / potent) in pitchers as well.

For example, on Sat night at Poly choices include Kona sticky wings, Kona Curry Shrimp Chowder, Kona salad (greens, blue cheese, almonds, fruit, citrus vinaigrette). On Sat night at CR there was some beef flatbread and something on a skewer (not memorable, sorry no details).

Friday night at Poly was Ohana marinated turkey skewers with peanut sauce and maui onion / cheddar scallop potatoes. Friday night at CR was some tiny crabcakes with a lot of filler.

Both have the standard cheese tray and vegetable platter.

Understand, I am not complaining about CR club offerings, it was all fine and tasted decent. It just seemed like the Poly was more bountiful, varied, and "special". Of course with all food there is so much subjectiveness.

That being said, again, I really enjoyed CR. I'm not sure that any one thing stands out, but the experience as a whole was very pleasant.
