What happened to the North Garden Wing/DVC?-See pictures of the Construction Post #104
Early in 2007 the North Garden wing was completely demolished. Currently, there is active construction on the site. It is rumored (and NOT confirmed) to be a new Disney Vacation Club.

*****Updated 2/26/08: Looks like DVC at the CR is now a reality! :cool1: :thumbsup2 It is to be called the Kingdom Tower. Here's the article from the Orlando Sentinel and a thread on the DVC board about it.

From Dreams Unlimited:
Online Concierge Test Program - Disney's Contemporary Resort is the first to introduce Disney's "Online Concierge." In room computer access allows guests to check flights, contact valet/bell services, play video games, order room service and connect to Disney internet sites. Email updates will include weather info and overview of day's events.

The free computers in ALL rooms will access more than just Disney sites, but the Internet is filtered so not ALL sites will work. Wireless is $9.95 per day. When we went, we took DH's laptop and used an Ethernet cable to plug into the computer outlet in the wall under the desk. High Speed connection for FREE with no filtering! There is also a USB port on the side of the computer in the room to plug in cameras, etc. See Pictures in Post #26

Room Information (from Dreams Unlimited)
cont-fplan.jpg

Both standard rooms and suites are offered at Disney's Contemporary Resort. At 422 square feet, the guest rooms here are amongst the largest on Disney property.
Guest rooms feature 2 queen size beds (or one king size bed) and a daybed, table with 2 chairs, armoire, television, nightstand, refrigerator, telephone, electronic code operated in-room safe, wall mirror, large bathroom with hair dryer, luggage rack, iron and ironing board and a balcony/patio.
The patios on the first floor rooms in the Garden wings are not private, they are shared with your neighbors. Guests who need to connect to home or work via the Internet while vacationing, will have high speed service.

From klofan: A deluxe room (Garden Wing Room) is an oddly shaped room at the part of the wing where it bends. Since the North Wing was knocked down, they only have 3 now. They are rooms 5109, 5209, and 5309. It has an oversized bathroom with a bathtub and standup shower. It also has a sitting area with 2 couches and a coffee table. There is also two sliding glass doors. And each room comes with a huge, king sized bed. See pictures post #88

Roll-away beds may be requested for siblings who do not wish to share a bed, (there is a $15 per night charge for this). Also available are bed boards, bed rails and cribs (the pak-n-play variety) call Housekeeping to request. If there are more than 2 adults in the same room, there is an additional charge of $25 per person, per night.

The following are available by calling Housekeeping:coffee makers (supplies may be limited), extra pillows, blankets and towels, and International Electrical Adapters.

TIP: The South wing rooms are closer to the pool, and convention center. The Tower rooms offer incredible views of Bay Lake, the Seven Seas Lagoon or the Magic Kingdom Park. They are also closer to the monorail station, restaurants and shops. Garden wing rooms can be quite a distance from the monorail. However because of the proximity to the Grand Canyon Concourse, some Tower rooms may be noisy.

CONCIERGE SERVICE

E-mail: wdw.contemporary.concierge@disney.com
Phone #407-824-1775
Fax #407-824-3461

Some rooms offer concierge service which includes personalized front desk and guest services, turndown service, refrigerator, coffeemaker, and lounge with continental breakfast, midday snacks, evening wine and cheese, beer, and evening cordials and dessert. The Atrium Club is on the 12th floor and is comprised of standard rooms and has full service concierge. The Tower Club on the 14th floor offers full concierge service, continental breakfast, midday snacks, and refrigerator (upon request). When you arrive at the Contemporary Resort, tell bell services inside the lobby that you are staying concierge. They will have someone escort you up to the 12th floor (which requires a special room key to activate both the 12th and 14th floors on the elevator). You will then check-in directly there and proceed to your room in the Atrium Club or Tower Club.

There are 25 suites with either Park or lake views. One and two bedroom suites with two queen size beds and sleeper sofas are available. Suites include two-line speakerphones, an additional phone in the bath area, hair dryer, bathrobe and turndown service.

The eleven Concierge suites are found on the 14th floors. Concierge services include: making dinner or recreation reservations for you, answering questions, planning outings, a lounge that offers a continental breakfast, daily appetizers, an evening cheese bar, desserts, cordials, free beer, wine, soft drinks and bottled water, and turndown service (that includes a Mickey chocolate on your pillow).

Difference between the 2 CONCIERGE floors by CR Fan for Life (and edited by Triplefigs)

On the 12th Floor Concierge, the Atrium Club, both the MK View and Bay Lake View are by request only and cannot be guaranteed. If the MK View is your top priority, you may be better off booking a standard MK View room in the Tower.

With the Tower Club there are a total of 16 rooms, 5 standard rooms and 11 suites: 1 & 2 Bedroom Suites, a Vice Presidential Suite and a Presidential Suite. With the standard rooms, there is no guarantee of a Magic Kingdom or Bay Lake View. However with the Suites , you will be booked into a particular room which will indicate Magic Kingdom or Bay Lake. You will be guaranteed to have that specific room view. There are 4 Standard Magic Kingdom view rooms and 1 standard Bay Lake View room on the 14th floor.

The lounge on the 12th floor is bigger with more seating then the 14th floor concierge lounge. They converted 3 standard rooms into the 12th floor lounge, so there are 3 balconies available on the MK side for all Concierge guests to watch the fireworks. The lounge on the 14th floor also offers seating outside on the balcony, which is something that is not offered on the 12th floor lounge.

Finally both floors serve the exact same foods for breakfast, afternoon snacks, 5:00 PM hors d'oeuvres and 8:00 PM deserts & cordials. The 12th floor Atrium Club is less expensive then the 14th floor Tower Club, even though on both floors offer the exact same service. The 14th floor is more expensive because fewer number of total rooms and Suites.

DINING
One of Disney's best restaurants is located on the fifteenth floor of the Contemporary Resort. The California Grill's views and cuisine bring even locals to the resort. Other restaurants include the Concourse Steakhouse, a casual dining location in the Grand Canyon Concourse (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner). The Concourse Steak House will be closing June 1, 2008. In its place will be Chef Mickey Express, the new counter service for the Contemporary Resort. Chef Mickey's, a character buffet (Breakfast & Dinner); Tempo Grab and Go is currently open on the 4th floor Grand Canyon Concourse and offers a limited CS menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The TGG also now has the WDW refillable mugs and a soda dispenser area with Coca Cola products. See TGG pictures Post #24. In-Room Dining is also available. The new Table Service restaurant, The Wave, will open on the ground floor of the CR. As of 4/14/08, the Wave is now taking ADRs for seatings beginning June 30, 2008 (thanks to crazy4wdw for the info). There is also the Sand Bar for CS options which is located poolside.

From klofan: On the Convention Center level of the Tower (2nd floor) there is a vending machine with REALLY cheap food items as if you were using one at home. The ones on the room floors are VERY pricey, but not this one! I'm assuming they do this for the conventioneers.

I just wanted to show everyone what the Magic Kingdom view would look like. Here is a picture I took from room #4840 which is on the 12th floor.

IMG_0130.jpg

Of course since the 12th floor is the Atrium Club Level that floor can not be requested unless you have a reservation up there. So if you have a Magic Kingdom view reservation and want to stay as high as possible, request a room on the 11th floor.

Also there are no Magic Kingdom rooms on the 5th floor, because of the Monorail station. They only have the Bay Lake view rooms.

Great! Love the new updated thread. Thanks CR Resort Fan 4 Life and triplefigs!

Here are some pictures I took last August of the various foods and beers that is offered in the Atrium Club Level lounge. Now these were taken with my cell phone camera and for the record the foods in the bins is Beef Wellington Puff Pastries and Mini Knishes, along with a selection of Cheeses and Vegetables. Besides that the other picture is various Cookies and Brownies they were offering.

Thank you Moderators!!! :yay: These manageable threads make so much more sense than those 2,600 page gargantuan monsters where a lot of the info is years out of date.

Outstanding job. Thanks so much for revitalizing this thread. For years, I've wanted to stay at the CR and finally realized that goal in December '07. Now I'm hooked.

Great start guys! We are getting excited..we will be there in June. triplefigs, how are the kids? So sorry you had to cancel, but hope your next trip will be magical!:)

If you stay in the concierge rooms is the beer and wine included in the lounge? I noticed Heineken's..my hubby's favorite...and was curious to what alcohol is included in the concierge lounge...;)

Is the alcohol available at certain times? or all day? WOW, I sound like a raging alcohol..;)

LOUNGE from Gardenia

STANDARD 14TH FLOOR ROOM DESCRIPTION~ FROM Piglet72

Just got back from 6 nights on the 14th floor - standard room (4913). It has a bathtub, with a shower head on the wall for either/or. No built in cabinent, plasma TV sits on the dresser/drawer unit. I don't have a floorplan, but it's pretty basic - entryway w/double closet, doorway to bathroom (separate vanities and toilet) two queens on the side, desk w/computer on the other. Little bigger room than the usual size - nice balcony. AWESOME view. View is what the price is for. Nice concierge lounge (little small, but there is hardly anybody on the floor - only 14 rooms). We saw two other people the entire stay - we had the lounge/staff to ourselves. :)

There are two sinks - one is in the "main" bathroom with the tub/shower, and the other is in the separate "toilet room". Both are full size deep sinks. Bathroom is nicely sized-spaced out. Kimberle is correct - birds (especially seagulls) do visit these balconies - a word of advice - do NOT take food onto the balconies when there are birds visiting - they are conditioned for that - they will NOT leave and obviously, the longer they stay, better chance to leave you a little present.:rotfl:

We had a very nice stay - make sure you request a MK view when you book, then follow up with the concierge a few days prior to arrival, and reiterate when you arrive - I think you'll get what you want. The concierge staff was very good - they frequently left little presents for our 3 year old (balloons, candy, even a "autographed" picture from Mickey personalized for our son. They were very professional and very attentive.

From CR FAN
Actually there are 4 standard rooms with the Magic Kingdom view. Those rooms 4911, 4912, 4913 and 4915 and the only standard room on the Bay Lake side room room #4905. I am sure you know the only way you can try to get a Magic Kingdom view is by requesting it, since you can not make a specific reservation for it the way you can with a regular Magic Kingdom view on the other floors in the Tower, or with any of the suites on the 14th floor. I will say with the 4 Magic Kingdom views in the standard rooms you have a better chance of getting that view, however there is always the chance you might not end up with it.

HA ROOM WITH ROLL IN SHOWER from lvloopingbag

4915 does not have a tub. It has a roll-in shower as it is a handicap-accessible room

From D&R love Disney

We've been in 4911 and 4912. 4911 only has a shower stall, it also has a bidet. 4912 has both a shower stall and a tub/shower.

The balcony and view are amazing. We've never found the concierge lounge crowded and the concierge staff is the best we've experienced!
