The Liberal Thread #2 - No Debate Please

I read somewhere the other day that RUSH REFUSES AND WILL CONTINUE to refuse that McCain is the GOP Candidate!
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I read on Friday that his "I dislike this guy so much I'm voting Democrat!" is all a grand ploy by him to get McCain elected. If he says he likes McCain all the moderate voters will vote for the Dem nominee. If he says he doesn't he figures the moderates will give McCain a chance.

Would this count as a right-wing media conspiracy?

The other side seems to take some comfort in the fact that our political family is having a few squabbles. The fact is, I haven't run into one person who's said "if Obama/Clinton are nominated, I won't vote for them but will vote for McCain".

The rightwing radio gas bags have gone after McCain tooth and nail. Have those on our side of the aisle done the same? The rightwing nuts in the Republican party have gone after McCain? Is there any wing on our side of the poltical aisle doing the same to Obama/Clinton?

Watching the other side is like watching a bad rerun of "Laugh-In".

I am watching Obama right now he seems to get upset easily when asked some questions. I'm really not digging his tone when anwsering some of these peoples questions. I hope he is just having an off day. Seems to talk down to people.:confused3

Just wait till Huckabee decides to run on a third party line. And they think we're arguing? I'd love a front row seat to see all the Republican feathers fly then. ;)

2) Vince Lombardi is sitting across the breakfast table and says to his wife Marie (in a panicked voice): " Oh Marie, I've got such a problem. I've got 2 great quarterbacks and I don't know which one to start. Should I start Johnny Unitas or Roger Staubach? Dammit it all to hell, Marie, I don't have a quarterback".

Decisions, decisions. :lmao:

The "two quarterback" thing cracked me up. For one thing, UF won the national championship last year with two quarterbacks, so it kinda makes no sense anymore to use that analogy. But more importantly, it's 7 months before the big game. Who cares who is listed where on the depth chart at this point?

Back to the campaign trail, though. I noticed one poster in particular is going out of his (her? no idea) way to smear Barack, and that the person has posted about the "shady land deal" several times. I found this article on Kos today particularly funny in the light of the "Hillary Supporters..." thread. :teeth:

This is for all those who have not yet been infected with the PLAGUE that is Obamamania... Yes, for those REAL DEMOCRATS out there who want the real news.

I fully expect to be flamed, drawn, and quartered for this, but there's been a brand new disclosure in the Rezko/Obama front that demands attention.

We all remember Tony Rezko, right? The indicted former "Friend of Barack" who, while under indictment, just so happened to go splitsies on a land purchase with the Obamas in 2005. Rezko (through his wife, Rita), bought a vacant parcel of land for full price - $625,000 - while the Obamas bought the adjacent house for $1.65 million - a full $300,000 off of the asking price!!!

We also remember how quickly Obamabots POUNCE on any mention of Rezko's name or any suggestion of any impropriety in this deal... How quickly they suggest that Obama's huge discount simply reflected real estate economics.

Well, well, well... Guess who decided to show up late to the party with a story to tell? The Sellers

* Greuben's diary :: ::
*

That's right, America is about to become intimately acquainted with the names, Frederic Wondisford and Sally Radovick. An intrepid journalist tracked them down and asked them whether Obama received a favorable price because of the involvement of Rezko and his wife in the purchase of the vacant, adjacent parcel for full price. They were also asked whether Obama paid less than the next highest offer for the house.

What did they say?

The couple who sold Barack Obama his Chicago home said the Illinois senator's $1.65 million bid ``was the best offer'' and they didn't cut their asking price because a campaign donor bought their adjacent land, according to e- mails between Obama's presidential campaign and the seller.

Bloomberg - the Sellers Speak

That's right - read it and weep. Becasue of Rezko's involvement, the Obamas received a ZERO dollar discount from the price they would have paid from the market. Because of the Rezko's purchase of the adjoining plot, the Obamas beat out ZERO other bidders on the same property!

This is HUGE! Why did the Sellers come forward?

The sellers hadn't previously made their side of the story public out of concern for their privacy, according to Bill Burton, a spokesman for Obama's campaign. They approached Obama's Senate office 15 months ago and agreed to break their silence now through the campaign out of concern that the story was being distorted in the media, Burton said.

And check this out: how did they reach the sales price?

It also says that ``in the course of the negotiation over the sales price,'' Obama and his wife, Michelle, ``made several offers until the one accepted at $1.65 million, and that this was the best offer you received on the house.''

Wondisford has declined to talk directly about the matter.

The Obamas submitted three bids: $1.3 million on Jan. 15, 2005; $1.5 million on Jan. 21; and $1.65 million on Jan. 23, according to a copy of the sale contract shown to Bloomberg News. Obama received more than $1.2 million in book royalties and a book advance in 2005, the year he was sworn in to the U.S. Senate, his financial disclosure statement shows.

I think this is very telling about how the Obamas do business in general: they are clearly NEGOTIATORS who will COMPROMISE on price points in order to close a deal. Why didn't they stick to their demand of $1.3 million? Where is their backbone? And do we really want to elect a President who is able to negotiate a good deal on a piece of real estate without receiving financial favors?

Finally, check out this damning admission of how Rezko DIRECTLY helped Obama purchase the property:

Burton said Obama toured the property with Rezko for 15 to 30 minutes at some point before the purchase. Burton said Obama wanted Rezko's opinion of the property because Rezko was a real- estate developer in the area. Burton said he didn't know when the pre-sale tour occurred.

Wow. Just shocking. An admission that Rezko directly assisted Obama in purchasing the property with 15 to up to 30 minutes of assistance and "free," undisclosed, professional advice as to whether the Obamas should buy the property or not, and whether the Rezkos were going to purchase the adjacent parcel.

Imagine that: a politician with a friend in the real estate business asks his friend for advice as to a real estate purchase. And the friend gives that advice without receiving anything in return.

Is this the man we want to elect as President? Someone who asks questions before taking decisive action? Someone who negotiates to a more favorable price and backs down from an initial demand?

I think not. I rest my case.

Whoa! Please, say it ain't so.

He's a man of the people and his moronic ditto heads believe it. Especially when he broadcasts from his Palm Beach mansion.

But let the Obama family live in a 1.5 million dollar home, which btw they also worked for, and they're just ......... just ........ well just. Our friends on the other side of the aisle aren't quite what their complaint is over that one.

1.5 MIL in Chicago is not that ostentatious. My girlfriend owns a half mil home in Oak Park and around here it would sell for 200K. Obviously Barack Obama knows something about investing and sound financial policy. That should please our friends on the other river bank.

Well, Rush's rants are definitely having an effect on Dittohead Nation. During a conversation with my dyed in the wool Republican FIL Saturday afternoon, he not only tells me that under no circumstances is he going to vote for McCain, but that he actually "likes" what he's hearing from Obama!! You could have knocked my wife and me over with a feather duster! For a minute there, I considered logging back on to Obama's website to see what I was missing and whether or not I should vote for him?!?! If the right thinks that this McCain hatred by Coulter/Rush/etc. is some sort of orchestrated ploy to get McCain elected, they might want to tell their radio deities to pull back on the reigns a bit. It's working a little too well...

Along the lines of "being knocked over with a feather duster", we had a family gathering yesterday. Two people, one of which I know was a big-time Bush supporter until recently, said they were supporting Obama. Why? For the same reason many of us are supporting him: We're ready to roll the dice the same way the Founding Fathers did in 1776.

With John McCain, you get a guy who was willing to swallow his pride and sell his soul to be president. After what the Bushies did to him in SC, the only reason why McCain should've hugged Bush was to be better able to spit in his eye.

With McCain, you get a guy who has no problem spending 100 years in Iraq.

With McCain, you get 4 more years of nothing being done on healthcare, jobs, trade policy, etc. After all, as McCain said "the jobs aren't coming back". Get used to the lowering paying service industry jobs. Wait, don't look for those either with McCain and his immigration policies.

With McCain you get 4 more years of Bush crap and then some.

For Democrats, McCain is a dream candidate. :cheer2:

I didn't understand all the fuss about Obama's home either. The man wrote two best selling books which allowed him to pay off the student loans him and his wife had. They were also able to buy a decent home with these profits. I live in the greater Chicagoland area and his house isn't all that, trust me. On Chicago's North Shore they have homes that have garages the size of Obama house. His plain looking home is nothing special when compared to the huge homes and McMansions that populate some of Chicago's suburbs. Some of those suburbs and the "Gold Coast" area of Chicago have home prices and property tax bills that would make your jaw drop. I was at the auto show this weekend and drove down Lake Shore drive and saw new condos being built with a "2.5 million" plus price tags, up for sale. For a 3 BR condo over looking the lake! So I just didn't understand why they were complaining about his fairly modest house the other day. He worked for it and earned it. He didn't inherit it or get it by some nefarious scheme.:confused3

It's something they all should not only respect, but aspire to do themselves. They're really barking about a non issue and they need to drive around in my neck of the woods to see how silly it is. Since I'm familiar with the area having lived here my whole life, I wanted to give my perspective on it

RNC donor event outlines Obama attack plan

By: Jeffrey Ressner
Feb 17, 2008 07:18 PM EST

Focusing on Barack Obama’s “inexperience” and “undisciplined messaging” are two ways to ensure that the senator from Illinois doesn’t get to be president, according to honchos at the Republican National Committee. Big RNC contributors got an earful this weekend about methods the GOP will use to battle the Democrats for control of the White House this fall, as well as other initiatives central to the conservative cause.

The RNC’s “winter retreat” for major donors at Los Angeles’ Beverly Wilshire Hotel featured such party stalwarts as Karl Rove, RNC chairman Robert Duncan, former Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams, as well as some Hollywood types, including Dave Berg, a segment producer and “political director” for "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno.

But chief among the RNC’s concerns were how to keep a tight grip on the White House this fall. Plenty of lowbrow Hillary Rodham Clinton jokes were tossed around at the three-day event, but of highest concern was the notion of Obama seizing the Oval Office in a contest against presumptive GOP nominee John McCain.

“We all dislike Hillary,” declared Southern California Rep. Ken Calvert, from the Inland Empire east of Los Angeles, echoing thoughts of the roughly 75 attendees at a Sunday morning RNC session.

“Forgetting who will be the easiest to beat, I've got to tell you, a President Hillary doesn’t scare me nearly as much as a President Obama.”

RNC Chairman Duncan as well as Co-Chairman Jo Ann Davidson opened the Sunday session with a Power Point presentation outlining five main strategic attacks against the Obama candidacy. A Politico reporter witnessed the document, but not the presentation.

The first called for pointing out what the GOP views as a seeming incongruity between Obama and the mantle of commander in chief. The second point harkened back to Obama’s days in the Illinois state Senate, noting how his “pattern of voting ‘present’ offers many openings to question his candidacy.” The third offered hope to the GOP faithful that “we can be confident in a campaign about issues.” A fourth bullet point relayed how “undisciplined messaging carries great risk,” while the fifth and final attack point stressed, “His greatest weakness is inexperience. He is not ready to be commander in chief. He is not ready to be president.”

The RNC event also broached taking control of traditionally Democratic issues such as health care, with even Rove stressing a need for Republicans to start addressing the matter. Congressman Calvert described health care as “one of the seminal issues” of the upcoming election and asked, “Are we going to move towards socialized medicine or away from it? Because we can’t move towards the middle.”

Calvert spoke during a morning session of California congressmen including Brian Bilbray, John Campbell and Dan Lungren, which focused mainly on immigration and lowering taxes, as well as more esoteric matters such as water rights. Throughout the event, the subject always seemed to return to this November.

“The American people are yearning for leadership,” said Lungren, who represents a Sacramento-area district. “We can win this election. We will win this election. Forget the carping about John McCain not being the perfect conservative. Ronald Reagan wasn’t a perfect conservative, but he was pretty doggone good. I’m not saying John McCain is Ronald Reagan: John McCain is John McCain. But we can win this election.”

For most of the weekend, however, the retreat gave the chance for donors who contributed $15,000 or more to bask in the 70-degree California sun, enjoy some golf or tennis at the L.A. Country Club, wolf down Wolfgang Puck pizzas at Spago, tour the Getty Center and Paramount Studios, and pay tribute at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library a half-hour away in Simi Valley.

Berg, the "Tonight Show" segment producer, delivered an informal talk about the pride and pitfalls of being a conservative working in Hollywood. Peppering his speech with references to Michael Moore, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and other Tinseltown lefties, he argued against the liberal mindset that he believes dominates the industry.

“We [conservatives] believe capitalism isn’t a dirty word,” he said. “If you’ve seen Daniel Day Lewis’ portrayal of a greedy, sinister oilman in ‘There Will Be Blood,’ it’s just another example of the Hollywood left’s contempt for capitalism.

“People have called Hollywood conservatives ‘the new gays,’ but I don’t think that’s necessarily the case,” Berg contended. “The gays have been accepted in Hollywood for years. They’ve long been out of the closet. In fact, they’re fixing up the closet, decorating it, and it looks nice, actually.”

Berg centered his talk around the “unintended consequences” of the recent Writers Guild of America strike against networks and studios, which ended last week. Berg placed blame on the WGA’s “radical” negotiators, with writers earning six-figure salaries casting themselves as “poor, exploited, downtrodden” workers, “acting like it’s 1957” and they were UAW members trying to get back on the assembly line building Corvettes.

“When the writers went on strike Nov. 5, they entrusted their futures to a leadership that essentially believes Karl Marx is still relevant,” he said. “This was a revolution against The Man.”

Berg discussed the return of "The Tonight Show" without its writers in early January, when the only guests consenting to cross the WGA picket lines were NBC News anchors, goofy animal acts and Republican presidential candidates, including McCain, Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney and Ron Paul.

“The WGA cut a side deal with David Letterman but not with our show,” he recalled. “We had to go back to work as the No. 4 network with no writers and no stars. Actors would not cross the line. I didn’t read this anywhere, but they were threatened with blackballing if they crossed the line to do our shows” — ironic, he says, since he believes Hollywood is “obsessed” with the 1950s blacklisting era of Joseph McCarthy. “The true threat of McCarthyism,” he says, “is coming from the left.”

Wait a minute--didn't we hear a few pages back that only liberals lived like that?

So...what, Hillary figured she'd beat 'em to the punch? :confused3

huh? I don't get it......

I don't get it. Are Obama supporters supposed to be quaking in our boots? After how badly the Republican party fared in '06, I'm thinking America's not going to be all that keen on getting an earful from a DOA candidate who promises "more of the same", regardless of what the RNC playbook says.

I just thought I'd post what the other side was planning.... that's all

It's a Gladiator joke...see, in the movie...Commodus....um....nevermind.

Now I don't feel so stupid - never saw that movie! ;)

Anybody else not know Obama and Edwards had a secret meeting yesterday? I wonder why all the "hush hush". :confused3

They were trying to keep it away from the press. The last time they set the meeting up, they had helicopters flying over Edwards' house. :teeth:
