The Ip-Dip Fry Daddy Dude Fest '08 - PTR by the camping dude

Okay, guys... I need some help.

I'm looking at our itinerary for October now, since we've only got a week before we can make some ADRs. I'm not sure how many we want to do because we're trying to save money on this trip, so we are going to try to do some cooking in the villa and eat mostly counter service. We may also sneak some food into the parks for lunch (uncrustables, etc.) for the kids. So, I need some suggestions. Our girls will be 7 and 4 1/2 years old and they're not really adventurous eaters (normal kid fare for the most part).

Here's what I have so far as some options:

Princess breakfast in Norway at Epcot (a must do)
Liberty Tree Tavern dinner (Goofy, Minnie, Chip & Dale)??
Crystal Palace lunch or breakfast??

We're also doing the Ip-Dip meet at the Biergarten on our first full day. That one doesn't count though, because Buzz is paying!

Here's what we did last time we took the girls:

Chef Mickey's -- it was okay, but really no need to do it again
Cinderella's Gala Feast at Grand Floridian -- not very good and DD6 threw up all over everything
Whispering Canyon -- we were staying at VWL (not this time)
Playhouse Disney buffet at Hollywood & Vine -- this was pretty good

Basically, we did buffets because DD4 was DD2 at the time and she ate for free! This year, we obviously will have to pay for her.

On a totally different note, we're trying to figure out if we want to do the Halloween party or not. We can get a discount on Tuesday night, I think, but I'm not sure it's worth it. Any opinions???

Thanks for your help!

Crystal palace for breakfast!! Puffy French toast,,need I say more?
You need one or two more in there,,something for Adults,,hmmm,,let me think..

I heard the halloween party was alot of fun! Annie and I were in the MK when one was just starting, looked like fun. would the girls be scared?

That's my fear, I guess. I don't want them to get all freaked out about it and then we'd have to leave after spending almost $150 for the four of us to go to it. I'm thinking that this will not be our last October trip (due to our school's fall break), so maybe it can wait for a trip when they're a bit older. Also, I can't imagine paying that much and having to leave before it's over. I wouldn't want DD4 to get sleepy and whiny and have to leave at 9pm or something like that.

DD4 didn't do very well with the characters in Jan 2007. I'm hoping she'll be better this year, but I don't know. I don't want to pay alot for meals that she'll sit there and cry through. You know what I mean? But hopefully we can make it to CP. I'd love to try that puffy french toast. I've heard so much about it.

As for the adult meals, we were just there in December by ourselves. We had the dining plan and did some great restaurants -- Le Cellier, Ohana, Kona, the horrible meal at Mexico, and Cape May. Not sure that we're planning on putting the kids in the kids' clubs or not. It's pretty pricey.

The one thing I was looking at for the girls to do is the Wonderland Tea Party at the Grand Floridian. It's a special luncheon tea for kids only with Alice and other characters from Alice in Wonderland. It's much cheaper than the one they offer with a doll and parents are required to attend. I may see if Grandma wants to give them this for an early Christmas present.

Let's see, we're doing Crystal Palace but for lunch on Tuesday. We were going to do breakfast and then realized that we didn't want to get up that early. (Yeah, we're not rope drop kinda people. Get me up that early and I'd be more like a drop kick kinda people.)

I've heard Liberty Tree Tavern can be kinda flaky. My understanding is that they use Stouffers mac and cheese and that the service can be bad. We aren't going and haven't gone. Mostly because we tend to eat that rather regularly so we like to have new and different things. :yay:

I also had to knock Akershus off the list for us. The idea of my DFi groping Jasmine on our honeymoon in front of a room full of children just wasn't flying. :scared1: I doubt he'd actually do it, but he did say he wanted a picture with her on his lap. :lmao: Yeah, so that got knocked out.

So, erm, what was I helping with again? Oh, I mainly posted to tell you that we're going to be at the Tuesday party. I'm not sure yet if we're going in costume or not but we're definitely going. Don't worry, our costumes will be rated PG-13 or so. As hot as it still is there in October, I'm thinking that we won't be wearing a costume. (Don't worry, we'll wear clothing instead! :rotfl2: ) I've heard the party is darned fun though so we're going just to see villians, watch the nifty parade, and collect some candy.

For the party, do you think your kids will be able to stay up? Next week we aren't doing the PPP specifically because my kids won't make it up that late.

AS far as food, don't do too many character meals, as you will burn out on characters. Seriously. My kids loved them, but the character meals are longer, since you wait for the characters, and it can get tedious....we also founf that the food was generally worse at character meals.

That being said....

My kids enjoyed Boma, Tony's Town Square, THEY loved Sci Fi (HHBG and I HATED IT), Rainforest Cafe, and Coral Reef (again, my food was terrible at cral reef, but we think that was one bad meal, as everyone else's were great).

Good luck! I'll post reviews when I get home from this trip, too, though most meals will be without our kids. :rolleyes1 HEY! It's a vacation for me and HHBg too!! (And we need to reconnect after all the Bear, neuropathy, WoW stuff recently)

We only do one character meal now per visit. We used to 5 or 6. Way too many.

I'm thinking two. One with Princesses and one with other characters (either Pooh or the classic ones). Not sure how much longer the girls will want to do the character thing and I'm also not sure when we'll be going back, so I wanna get a few in this trip.

Gud plan. :thumbsup2

Thanks!

I'm working hard on our plan for the week now.... :thumbsup2

Make sure it includes: "Get Drunk w/ Buzz".

yes it is, Tusker House
donald
daisy
mickey
goofy

safari themed.

That sounds interesting. I was chatting with DD4 in the car today, asking her about who she wanted to eat with. I asked her if she wanted to eat with Pooh and she asked, "Is he big?" When I told her that he was a person in a costume, she said she didn't want to eat with big characters. I think she's still a little freaked out by them.

We're definitely doing the princess breakfast because it's the easiest way to get pics with all the princesses without standing in line for three hours. I'll have to talk to DD6 to see what she wants to do.

I'd like to do one other character breakfast or lunch, but not if DD4 is going to sit and cry all the way through it. Not worth it...:sad2:
