The house across the street is for sale...

It's very pretty, but out of my price range.:D

That house is SO me! :teeth: i would love to see the inside, but I don't qualify.

The first thing thay struck me is how low the taxes are on that house. We pay $8100/year and our house is only on 1/3 acre and about 3350 sq. ft.

What a place!! I would love to take a look inside, but with the requirements for a "looksee", I don't think I'd make it past the gate.

The real estate market around me has gone bonkers - I could sell my townhouse for close to 2x what I paid for it only 5 years ago!! But the taxes have gone up considerably since then also - gotta love New Jersey & Gov. McGreevey!! I guess that's why I'm getting about 4 or 5 pieces of mail a day from realtors around here - they're all circling the neighborhood - HELP!!!

Reminds me of some of the prices we see around here... especially on the larger lot sizes. I've been in homes that sell for $1million around here and they aren't that grand of lots. It is a sellers market around here... in 2 years, our house has gone up $50K in value! We found that out when we refinanced. Too bad the rest of the homes done go for less or we could afford a very nice house :p

It is an absolutely beautiful home. Maybe I will make them out a check and rent it out until I retire. :)

My neighbors just sold their house for $200,000, and it's very small, two stories, three bedrooms, one car garage, no basement, but is on an acre. I think they paid about $130,000 for it around 7 years ago. They had six buyers in two days on the market, one guy willing to pay cash. You just can't get homes under $300,000 around here, and that's with no land, and just the basics. I don't know how first time home buyers can afford anything anymore. My husband was ready to put a sale sign on our house when he heard how much the neighbors got. We paid $145,000 3 years ago for ours, and we have a full finished basement, a pool, hot tub, 5 foot high picket fenced back yard, paved large patio, and four bedrooms, plus it's on an acre and zoned for horses. The neighbors have none of that, except for the acre. Home prices have skyrocketed around here in the last year.

Well let me just say that there are houses here that are on the market for much more. If you were to buy any new construction the taxes around here would be around $16,000 and that wouldn't be for 3 acres, more like 1-2 acres. Where I live and where I lived before in Warwick the prices are crazy. DH and I bought a town house for $155,000 and in just 6 months sold it for $212,000. That was 3 months ago and they are now going for $239,000!!!

The main reason I can't get over the price of the house across the street is because of the houses across the street from it!!! My house and the 5 others to the right of me are all older homes. Mine being the youngest being built in 1939, the others were built in 1890's-1900's. Our houses are on quarter of an acre and have sidewalks, typical village homes. Prices ranging from $300,000-$350,000. Then to the left of me are homes built in the 90's, nothing to talk about. Small lots, no sidewalks, or detatched garages like we have. Small colonials probably in the almost $300,000 range. All our taxes are between $4,000-$6,000.

I think this huge increase in this part of Orange county has happened within the past 5 years. It just keeps going higher and higher! DH and I like to buy and sell making a profit and don't have a problem moving so much. We've moved 3 times in the past 2 years. We were going to do it again here and stay only 2 years and move on to something better. With the prices the way they are we really have it good where we are and have decided to finish our basement to give the kids a play room and us an office. 3 months ago I paid $285,000 for this house, which was a bargain! We called the listing agent and she said, after the work we have done we can get $339,000!!!! That is just in 3 months!!!

You could find houses for much cheaper but, Goshen and Warwick school districts are known as 2 of the best in the county. Another reason for higher home prices.

FYI: DH works in Manhattan everyday. He drives and it takes him close to 90 mins. He says his commute is worth it for his kids to be in a good school and to live in the area we love. We really do love it here!

Hey tiggerlover, since you know where the house is, you can stop by mine when you get back in town!!!:teeth:
Also I've been meaning to ask you, I remember you said your MIL worked at the school? Who is she? PM me!

It's gorgeous! Unfortunately I would have to have a full time housekeeper to come along with it! It isn't a bad price though I cannot imagine having a $10,000 house payment!! :earseek: Ours payment is less then a 1/3 of that and that is enough!

IMHO for that house and property in the Goshen area the price is reasonable. I'm in the Pine Bush area and the housing here is going through the roof too.

It looks familiar - I think I've driven past it while wandering through trying to "back road" my way around a quickway backup.

It is such as seller's market around here (Northern VA) that I don't think that price is bad at all for that house. What I would consider the "norm" around here (1900 - 3100 sq. ft. homes) are going from the high 400,000s to the mid 600,000s. My neighor has 1900 sq. ft. on two levels and is getting ready to list her house for $459K!! She paid $219000 in 2000! There's very little inventory right now so that's what the market is doing.

Yes, the prices around here are ridiculous! I'm glad we built when we did!

I love that house Desnik! It's beautiful! Maybe Rosie O'Donnell will buy it!

That house is AWESOME and I agree, that's a GREAT price for a house like that. We live in Princeton, NJ and a house that big on 3 acres would be over 2 million at least!!! Commuting to NYC from Orange County is a little long IMO, one of the reasons the house is priced lower than I would have thought. The taxes up there are SO REASONABLE to me. I don't pay much less than that here in NJ, so to have a house like that, with those taxes seems like a dream!!! Trust me if Orange County could be a decent commute into NYC, I would have to drag DH up there to look at it!!!

I'm not saying that Orange is an easy and quick commute to NYC, but it IS still within commuting distance and ANYTHING within commuting distance has seen a tremendous rise in value in the last few years. The reason it's not as much as it would be if it were closer in is that properties in orange county STARTED much lower in the first place (because it's just not as close or convenient), but I'm pretty sure that as a percentage places like orange and putnam counties have seen even more growth than places closer in.

About the taxes, they never seem to be correct on the listings. I found that whenever we look at houses and actually bother to verify the taxes at the town hall, they tend to be at least 30% higher than what is listed. I think agents play this funny game where they take the tax bill from like 3 years ago and feign ignorance that the taxes may have gone up.

There are some metro north lines that do go into orange county, though. The commute will be a heck of a lot longer, though! My inlaws live in rockland and my parents live in putnam and there was a battle for our souls as the inlaws tried to convince us that the commute was easy from orange on "their side" of the river. We found that we could go really far north and still have a better commute on the putnam/dutchess side though. Still, for people who just cannot afford to spend even $300k on a starter house, Orange is an option and that seems to have driven prices up quite a bit.

Okay, being from the Bay Area (but only as of about a year and a half ago, because of a job transfer) I can tell you that house is a BARGAIN compared to what you get here for that amount of money.

That house is gorgeous!!!!

It amazes me how much home values vary around the country!

Prices are pretty low around here, probably because we have a lot more undeveloped land.

In my area, a typical newly constructed home might be 3000-3500 sf, and cost between $250-350K. Depending on the neighborhood, you can go down some, or WAYYYYYY up from there. We don't have any cool old historical homes around. Old for us is something built in the 1950s.

The home in the listing is beautiful.

The house next door for us just sold last month (the new owners are moving in this weekend) for $920,000+!!!!!!!

I ran across a flyer that I had gotten when we moved into this neighborhood 10 months ago for a house down the street, same model as next door and they were asking $650,00. We bought a different model for a simliar price but within months... (MONTHS!) the prices went nuts and went up almost 50% over what they were asking. Our model house (the builders model) just sold 2 months ago (the last one in the project) for $950,000!!! Holy Moley!!!!

There are basically no houses for sale in whole area. We have one of the best school districts in the state and everyone wants to move out here. Next door, the sign went up on Thursday night and came down on Sunday morning. The houses sell fast enough to make your head spin. I swear we snuck in here at just the right moment.

I just looked at the listing and WOW! thats beautiful!

I have to agree that around here that house would sell in second at that price.. 3 acres WOW!!!!!!! 4700 SF WOW!!!!!!!!!

We have the tiniest yard :(
I wanna big yard!!!!!!!

The really exclusive houses in our area (1 acre in North Ranch, lots of celebrities live there) go on the average for 2.5 million. :earseek:

And I would SO much rather have that house on 3 acres!!!!

To the OP, I'd be careful with this post. You basically told thousands of people on the internet where you live (or the nutsos can easily find out through the realtor where this house is). I don't know, I tend to be very careful how much I reveal to the zillion people that read this board and you don't know if there are any nuts out there. Just being careful, better safe than sorry. Beautiful home though! :D

I don't know, I think it's a reasonable price for the house and the amount of land.

This house is in my town and is being sold for about 750,000 Long Island is so crowded, this house is not situated on alot of land at all. The rooms are fairly small, I've been in the same model home in the same developtment.

We all think it's a crazy asking price, but thats real estate on the Island today (or anywhere, for that matter).

The house you posted is on a huge amount of land and seems decently sized. I don't think it's that outrageous of an asking price.

I know someone who just bought a 1400 square foot home in CA for $4.5 MILLION dollars - oh yeah it's on the beach in Malibu. I hope I get to visit.

What a pretty house. I couldn't afford it, that's for sure. Wish I could, though :)
