I think we want the 70's for convenience, without paying the x-tra $$ ;)

Now, are both/either of the 70's non-smoking? Both DS's have SEVERE asthma/environmental allergies. Cigarette smoke would truly ruin a magical trip for them. I have nothing against smoking - I used to in high school/college  I just don't want to have my heart set on a particular area, only to find that it's impossible for the kiddo's!

Also, are there buildings that are all smoking? I just wonder, so if my request is lost in the shuffle, I will know right away if we're put in an area that just won't work for us.....

TIA! ::MickeyMo

I know exactly how you feel. I am severe asthmatic and this is why we no longer stay in the Mods. I'm not sure about all smoking buildings vs all non smoking buildings. That would be a ? for Tylar. However, when you request the non smoking room tell them that it is for medical purposes for severe asthmatics. From what the CM's at Pop have told me, if someone just requests non smoking and there is someone with a medical need for non smoking they will give the room to the medical need and not the "request". Hope that helps and made a little sense.

Adisneymama, it does make sense that they would honor a medical request ahead of non-medical. Thanks again!

Tyler, are you out there? Are there any buildings designated as smoking/nonsmoking? Any area I should really avoid for my boys' sakes? Thanks again!

I'm here. However, I no longer work at Pop Century. I cannot recall which buildings were completely non-smoking. I do know that they did add or change a few smoking optional rooms.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to assume..........we know what happens when we assume

I'll just call, make a request and hope for the best. As always, thanks so much! ::MickeyMo

Hey Zandy Sandy, thanks for the reconcilation on the letters and building numbers. Any other help on the 50's building would be greatly appreciated.

Just returned from Pop last night. Tired and sad to be home! We had 8 wonderful days there. Everything was perfect. Requested 70's and got 50's. After seeing 70's for myself I'm happy we got 50's instead. I honestly can't think of one single thing I didn't love about Pop.

Welcome back Liz,

I'd love to hear all about your trip and about everything that you loved about POP. We are going for our first Christmas trip in Dec., and can't wait. We are going for 7 nights, but it will only be 6 1/2 days because of flight times - I hope that will give us enough time. I would love to extend it for another day but feel guilty about taking DD7 (will be in 2nd grade) out of school for 5 days as it is.

How were the crowds this time of year? and the heat? I am hoping for cooler weather in Dec. If you have time for a review of POP and what was great about it, please do. Also, I have not actually requested a building as of yet other than asking for one closer than the 80's/90's buildings - so why did you prefer the 50's era? My children are 7 and 4.5, so I just hope to be close to the buses and food court as possible. Also, did you buy the refillable mugs? If yes, how did that work out for you? I believe that milk is not included in the refills and think that is sad - I frown upon excess soda drinking.

And did you meet our groovy thread host,Tyler? :earseek: Since we are not renting a car this time around, I figure we will become very familliar with the buses and are bound to run into him..... perhaps.

WHOA, Tyler...why, why, why???? This thread started by you rocks! Where are you now? If you say the GF, I'm afraid I'll never see you there unless I win the lottery, LOL!

On my next trip I will dedicate my favorite treat to you - one of those awesome Dole Whips in the pinapple flavor!

You will be missed :grouphug:

I second that! Many of the things we learned here help us choose POP for our trip this time. Thanks Tyler! :love1:

 Any amount of time you can stay is better than none! We stayed 8 nights and felt that was a good amount of time if we had not left WDW at all. Our friends visited Gatorland one morning and we went with them. Ten nights would be our ideal amount of time.

We never had a problem with crowds or waiting in lines. We used FP and planned well. We were always at the park at opening and avoided all EMH's. It worked great!

The heat wasn't too bad because we got a good amount of rain and that kept the temps down. On days when we didn't get any rain it did get kinda warm but it wasn't unbearable. I don't think it ever got above about 90!
December should be perfect weather!

I requested 70's because it seemed closest to the bus stop and Classic Hall. We were in the Lady building, between Lady and the Juke box, room 1169. We had a first floor room. I thought a higher floor would be better for noise but it had its advantages too (not waiting for elevators, easy access, etc.) Our teen boys spent a lot of time at the bowling pin pool so it was nice having them just a few feet away if we needed to check on them or tell them it was time to come in.

I did laundry a few times, just a couple of loads at a time. The convenience of having it so close was great. I don't know that I would have done it as often had it not been so convenient. The posted time for dryers is 30 min. but they always went at least 35-40. Never had anything not be completely dry, even denim.

The 70's section just seemed crowded, closed in and hotter without a pool and with the foosball guys and lots of plant life. The 50's is just more open and seemed cooler (temperature wise).

We did buy the refillable mugs. They are great souvenirs even if you don't drink a ton of pop! Milk isn't included but apple juice is. We even got hot chocolate one night when we were a little wet and cold from the rain!

I walked all over the entire resort checking things out. I especially wanted to see how far the 80's & 90's buildings really were from Classic Hall. It would be kinda far to go to refill a mug but the 80's are pretty close to the bus stops. I walked at a normal pace from the farthest 90's room (bottom floor) to Goofy's Pop Jet area and it took 5 minutes. Goofy's is very close to Classic Hall. I would probably be disappointed to be in the 80's or 90's myself but it wouldn't be the end of the world. The 80's and 90's don't seem as themed as the other areas but they did seem quiet, if that's what someone is looking for.

The rooms facing the lake would be lovely. We saw some huge birds, a bunny and a turtle! There are rooms in the 50's section that just face the parking lot and we were thinking those wouldn't be very fun (but quieter).

All the CMs were nice! We saw them do the hustle in the lobby at 6 PM once and saw the twist in the food court at 8 AM a couple of times! My DH and teen boys twisted with them once!

Our room was ready for us when we checked in at 1 PM on a Sunday. There was just one other person in line in front of us and we were helped almost immediately.

Took the buses almost everywhere. Never waited long except one night when we left Epcot after Illuminations. We had a long wait but that was only because there were a TON of people in line for Pop. Buses came promptly - three, I think - before we were able to get on one. Many other resorts had lines as well.

Prices at the food court were reasonable. If you love ice cream they have a great ice cream sundae for $3.99. That includes 3 scoops of ice cream, a topping like hot fudge, caramel or strawberry (I think), whipped topping, nuts and sprinkles! Compare that to just an ice cream cone with one scoop for something like $2.69!

Any other questions I'd be happy to try and answer them! Love, love, love Pop!!!

2. I think I want to be in the 50's area, 4th floor, lake and fireworks view. I think you can have a lake and fireworks view from what I've read. Is that true?

3. With a 50's area location, 4th floor, lake and fireworks view, what is the ideal building for this request? Section of the "T" preferred or room number/section?

Wish I could help you, but we stayed in the 70's Big Wheel on the 1st floor. I know some other people here have stayed in the 50's 4th floor to see the fireworks so maybe they can help.

Just got back and yes you can. I was able to see EPCOT's show from my room (The sky stuff anyway) I was 4th floor bldg 3 on the back of the tee facing the lake. You could also watch from bldg 2 on either of the two wings facing the lake. We could also see ToT and the large Glass Pyrmid.
The room was nice facing the lake, much quieter.

Excellent report!!!!! Thank you !

So, which buildings are preferred? When I made a new ressie last week, the person at CRO actually asked me if I had a room request. I was so surprised I forgot all of the good things I learned here, and just asked to be reasonably close to the Hall and to parking. He said that would be a preferred room. Surely there have to be rooms that fit the bill and aren't preferred?

yes, there are rooms in the 50's and 70's that are good, both times I went, they asked us where we wanted to go(and they had us point it out in a map)

Hi Liz!
We are back from POP as well. Were you doing laundry Wednesday night 6-8? If so we were in there at the same time and didn't know it!
We also experienced the long lines after Illuminations in Epcot but the buses kept rolling. I was impressed with how quickly our long lines diminished. (This was a Saturday night.)
Darn - I missed the deal on the ice cream. I guess that's what I get for sending my DH for a scoop rather than going myself. He was one of the guys buying that $2.69 scoop!

Just to let everyone know, while we were there, they installed hairdryers in each room. Not sure if that has been mentioned yet.

After staying at a lot of deluxes, we were VERY happy with POP and would gladly stay there again! LOVED Pop Century!! :cool1:

My extended family will be staying at POP for the first time in September. There will be 7 of us so we want adjoining rooms. Also my mother is legally blind, so I'm thinking a ground floor room would be best for her. My question(s)--are there adjoining rooms on the ground floor and would the 50's building be best for us so she doesn't have to walk so far to bus stops, dining, etc...

Thanks for all your help.

Just to clarify:

Adjoining = next to each other
Connecting = door in the middle

So, technically speaking, every room adjoins with another room. I'm assuming you mean connecting. If so, half the rooms will connect.

Everyone keeps talking about the 50's being close to the bus stops. I would disagree. They are about as far away as you can get. Now don't shoot me. They are still close, everything is easy to get to at POP, we loved it.
But, if your concern is to be as close to the bus stops you may want to consider bldg 0 which I think is 70's or bldg 5 which is in the 60's.
The 60's building could have stairs to deal with though, from the pool. Or even building 9 in the 80&90s, The bus stops are on the east side South end of the main building.
If you are not on the first floor and plan on using the elevator the wing doesn't make a difference. The elevators are in the center of the 3 wings.

Just my 2 cents
