Ok I need to ask hypothetical question. We are going too WDW next year for free dining in Aug. We really want to stay at the POP because we loved it so much here the scenario: 2 adults 5 kids = 2 rooms. Here is the ? 3 of the kids are our dds
1 boy ds
1 boyd nephew

dh and I want our own room with King bed. (connecting rooms) Will CM care we have 1 room with 2 beds and 1 room king? DD's can sleep in one bed anyways, leaving my son and nephew to share a bed.

The king rooms have a max. occupancy of 2 and standard rooms have a max occupancy of 4. Going by that I'd say it isn't possible.

I've also read of a lot of people trying to get the king/2DB connecting rooms and it seems like it never happens. There may not actually be any that are connected (or very few if there are). I also hate sleeping in a DB with anyone, so understand how you feel but I'm thinking you couldn't do this.

I hate the connecting rooms. We had a connecting room at Sports last month and we could hear the conversations of the cheerleaders in the room next to us. We called the coach one night at 12:30am and told her to tell them to can it, lol.

Luckily we knew them since they were with our group. But - I would have been pissed if we didn't know them. Its way to loud in a connecting room.

OK I didn't think we could either but I was hoping! I can't stand a full size bed ; I am tall and my feet hang off! So I guess my dh and I will each have our own full bed and just have the kid sleep as I posted before. Once we are checked in they will never know were everyone lays their head down!

I don't think the kings are California Kings, just regular. They should be the same length as the doubles, right? At least I always thought they were. I could be wrong.

We're at the point now where pretty much none of us (including my 3 teens) are willing to share a double bed with anyone. So when we travel, and have to have the doubles, we do exactly what you said and bring 3 sleeping bags for our 3 teen boys. I have found that on a normal double, you can pull the mattress back about 4 inches from the headboard so that the part of the pillow you actually use is still on the mattress, but there is more room for your feet, if that makes any sense!

For anyone who has stayed in the 50's and/or 80's, between the two, which would you recommend? I could care less about how close the resort is to the main building. A 7 minute walk isnt going to kill me. At the speed I walk, I could probably make it in 4. :rotfl: Anyway, these are my two favorite era's in real life, so I'd like to try and request one of the two. I've been trying for about a week to figure out which one is better, or whatever, but with no luck.

How are the 50's & 80's rooms themed? :wizard:

Which one has a better view? And, should I request a "Lake View" or a "Courtyard View"?

Thanks!

And really, out of all the decades, which one is the best? (Feels most like its era) :3dglasses

As a PP noted, the room decor is minimally different from building to building. Most rooms have the same furniture--except for obviously, king bed rooms versus the regular rooms with 2 double beds. All rooms have the same bathroom, sink and closet layout. All rooms have an armoire with a TV and a small table with 2 chairs.

The exterior themes vary from building to building, decade to decade. In the '50's, you'll be near a pool shaped like a bowling pin and stairs that look like giant bowling pins. One building sports a gigantic jukebox, while the other two have equally large icons with Lady and the Tramp. In the '80's, the stairs are huge Rubic's cubes with Pac Man decorations all along the terraces.

Room wise, there is no difference between preferred and standard rooms. You will not get a jazzier room if you book preferred.

I feel a need to state this because I think there may be WDW resort noobs who think they'll get a bigger or somehow better room by paying for preferred. No, you won't. All you'll get with preferred is a room location that is guaranteed to be within a certain walking distance to the bus stop.

As to your question about the views, Brockel, I can't answer about the views in the '80's. Don't know. In the '50's, you could potentially have 3 views: 1-the parking lot, 2-the Bowling Pin pool and 3-the lake. I'm a fan of the lake myself. Some people don't care for it because it overlooks the unfinished part of the resort. I like it for the waterview as I find water soothing to watch. Also, you can see the fireworks from Illuminations and the MK from the lakeside.

Which do I think is best themed? I think with the exception of the '90's, all the decades are well represented in their themes. IMO, when they designed the resort, it was still too close to the '90's to decipher what the most obvious icons of that decade were.

We are leaving May 17th for a 8 day stay at POP! We are so excited. I have 2 questions (so far).

1.) If you were traveling with a 2 year old, where would you want your room to be located? I could care less if it's a pool view or water view of any type. I'm mostly concerned about walking distance to the Classic Hall.

2.) We are going to celebrate my son's second birthday. Do they do any special things in the room at no charge? Is it something I owuld have to request? I saw one post talking about a picture.

TIA

Hey RivieraMaya - Welcome to the DIS!

1- Request close to Classic Hall, but I think those are preffered rooms and cost a little more per night.

2- You can tell the front desk that it's his birthday. My kids did this in 07 when we were there for my birthday and they had a signed picture/card of my favorite character in my room.

We were there for my husbands birthday. I let them know ahead of time and he received a card and balloon from his favorite character in our room. I also saw the birthday cakes that you could purchase in the refrigerator section of the food court. Have Fun!

I requested a Standard view to EPCOT to see the Illumnations! which theme can see it the 70's or the 80's!

I'm leaving for my first POP trip on Sept 24th, I scored free dining, and I'll be there for Food and Wine.:cool1:

I have 2 questions for all of you lovely people, regarding the shower areas that are by the pools.

1.Are there lockers right next to the showers, or is there a little shelf or something to put your bag so it doesn't get wet when you use the shower?

2.Has anyone used the showers and knows whether they have OK water pressure or not?

I know these are weird questions, but on my last day of my trip this past Jan I got a massive case of hives, and had already checked out of my room. I used the shower by the pool in case it was a contact thing, but there were no lockers at POR where I could put my purse to keep it dry, and the water pressure was terrible, I would have gotten cleaner if I stood in the sink. I just want to be prepared incase something like this happens again.

Thanks for your help with this and for all contributing to this thread so that I could learn more about a resort I had never booked at before.

This should help you find the rooms. The buildings are all the 50s and one 60s building. You don't know what floor you'll be on until they put you there.

As for online reservations, 10 days before you leave, you go to the disney website and enter your information, but people said it's not worth it, because it doesn't save any time. And whoever made the reservation needs their ID. If you made it, you need it. If it's under your mother's name, she needs it.
