DH and I usually eat 3-4 meals at Pop and think the variety is fine. His favorite is the meatball sub (he seriously looks forward to it all year) and mine is the turkey ciabatta sandwich.

SOOO yummy. I also love Disney nuggets so I eat lots of those. The chicken ceasar salad and turkey ciabtta were also SOOO good. I already have my first day's meals planned out. I'm checking in, getting nuggets and fries, then for lunch chicken penne alfredo and more nuggets for dinner! :rotfl: My DBF thinks I'm crazy. He could be right...

You may start to cluck.:rotfl:

Does anyone know what kind of dress code is at the food court at POP? Can you wear swim wear with cover ups? I am planning a pool day and would like to be able to grab a snack or fill our mugs without going back to the room to get fully dressed.

Thanks

I'm returning to the Pop in about 8 weeks and I'm wondering... what are some great things to eat at the food court? The last time I was there I ate a lot of pizza and shrimp lo mein (yum!) and twinkie tiramisu and carrot cake.

So what else is good?

Definitely Chicken penne Alfredo! and you can even request the same this with the red sauce instead of the alfredo! The Chicken cesear is awesome also! My daughter loved the chinese food especially the shrimp lo mein you mentioned! The burgers and cheese fries were good also! If I thnk of anything else ill let you know!

Yes you can wear swim wear with cover ups etc... Heck some ppl were wearing PJ's! So basically as long as you have clothes on your good to go!

My family (me, dh, ds-8, ds-1) stayed at pop last October. We were happy with the food court - something for everyone. The boys loved the pools! The transportation was good - the longest wait was about 20 minutes one day when we were leaving MK and heading back to POP but the rest of our wait time was around 5 minutes which IMHO is awesome for place as big as Disney! We never had any issues with noise (people or toilets/showers) - perhaps it is because we are usually the loud ones :).

Anyway, we are planning another trip to Disney for this October. And we are debating between POP and ASMo. I really like the theme for ASMo for my children but I hate the idea of sharing a bus with two other resorts . My only true complaint of POP was my shower curtain - it had mildew on it. I know that may not be a big deal to some but it bothered me - I didn't complain or anything... but it has me debating staying there again. So, for those that have stayed at both POP and ASMo - which resort do you prefer? (My husband says I should just suck it up and pack a shower curtain among the other hundred thousand things I pack for our trips and head back to POP).

Thanks,
Amy

I am thinking that you should have complained about the shower curtain. That is just gross and I am sure they would have replaced it pretty quickly. No need to pack your own curtain! :)

We stayed at ASMo two years ago. The bus sharing is not that bad. We only had to share in the middle of the day when not too many people were on the bus. ASMo was the last stop coming back from the parks, though. My DD(3.5 at the time) knew after a while that stopping at Sports and Music meant we were almost home.

I am wondering if I should ask for a lake view or not? The lakes dont seem very big. From a video I saw, they just looked like large ponds. Would it be better to have a lake view, or a courtyard view?

I still have like 4 months before my trip, but I want to make a special request ASAP. Should I call right away, or should I wait?

I personally don't think the lake veiw is that pretty. But if you want less noise, it may be a better choice.

On this topic, do you think there is enough variety to eat at the food court for dinner for 3-4 nights on the trip? It'll just be me & DS16, and we plan to hit the parks early and probably end most of our touring days with a lunch ADR, rather than try to go back to the parks in the evening. I know we want to go a couple restaurants that don't have lunch (Garden Grill, 'Ohana), so those days we'll do lunch in a park. However, most nights I'm thinking we'll be back at the resort by mid afternoon, do the pool and relaxing thing, and eventually get to the food court. Or will we be sick of it by the second day? :confused3

Well, I wouldn't get sick of it. We love the Mom's Night Out fried chicken dinners (as good as 50s PT IMHO), the flatbreads, greek salad, parmesan crusted chicken with the penne alfredo on the side, burgers, lo mein, cheesesteak...so I could definitely be happy with 3-4 days of those. The only 2 things that I can think of that I really didn't enjoy was the turkey ciabatta (hard as a rock the day I got it) and I always say this: Stay away from the room delivery pizza! (But DGD13 loves it and uses her own $ to get it every trip...ugh!) ;)

I think you guys have a great plan! Fun and relaxing! :thumbsup2

Have any of you bought or had a birthday cake delivered to Pop? We will be celebrating my son's 5th birthday. I so wanted to do the Mickey package where they come into your room and decorate but that $200 is a bit much. I have decided I am making my own basket and mickey footprints to suprise him.

Check out the first page for info on Bday cakes. IMHO this is one of the best little perks POP has to offer! Those cakes come from the GF Bakery and are absolutely fresh and delicious! The POP chef was sooo nice to us and really tried to make it extra special. He called our room to let me know it was ready and I could come pick it up...and then offered to just have it delivered...with balloons, an autographed photo card from Minnie, plates, napkins, knives and forks and even candles. :thumbsup2

I'm requesting lake view just because I think it will be quieter! Actually I'm going to request a "quiet room, top floor, lakeview if possible". I need to call because there was nowhere to add this when I booked online. Now I'm trying to decide if I should ask for a certain decade - I was thinking we wanted the 70's or 80's more but now that I hear the stuff about the fireworks, etc. in the 50's, maybe that would be cooler? Should I just do my original thought (quiet!) and leave the where up to them?

I would stick with the 3 requests you listed above and not add a certain decade -that will limit the the room assigner. Less requests is most important and less detail as well. Your "quiet room, top floor, lake view if possible" is very good and should be easy for them to fulfill. And don't forget to ask about your room location before the CM makes up your key - that way if it is not what you hoped for, you can ask them to try to find a room location you'd like.:thumbsup2

Have a great trip!!! :goodvibes

Thanks for your help! In some ways I think it's cooler to find out where we'll be then and having it a surprise. If I request a decade then either I "know" where we'll be, or I'm disappointed if we don't get it! I do think I'll switch my order on my request to have "top floor" before "quiet location" since that's more important to me (no matter how quiet the location, if there are kids racing back and forth above me - it's not quiet! ;) ).

You're welcome! We always make 4th floor our first request, then lake side (because if it's a lake side then it will be quiet;)). We usually request:

4th floor
lake side
fireworks view

We always have a quiet location this way. Oh, I should have suggested to change your lake view to lake side as "officially" there are no lake view rooms, only lakeside. :thumbsup2

I am sure it's been asked a million times but here it goes: Is it worth the extra money to stay preferred room at Pop? I know everyone's opinion will vary but I would love to hear from you:thumbsup2

 Maybe only a thousand times ;) You will get as many opinions. :thumbsup2

We've stayed at POP 5 times since it opened (our first try at a value ;)), never a booked a preferred.

Last August we had to extend a stay due to the hurricane and moved from SSR to POP std for 2 ngts - we were assigned a pref location, 4th floor, with a view of the Hippy Dippy Pool - while it was nice to pop ( no pun intended) back and forth to the food court, we missed the lake side room location we usually had.

Of course, if it was during a tropical storm, a room so close to the food court would be a huge plus. It was fun being in the heart of the action...and if I had young children, think it would be worth the extra cost. Although not all preferred room locations are as handy as others.

If location is most important, then check out the map of the pref room locations and see if it would work for your family. The highlighted areas are preferred.

It could depend on which building you get. In the 60's building, the difference between preferred and standard is literally which way you exit from the elevator bank (i.e., whether you turn left or right). I can't speak for the other buildings, but having seen the difference in the '60's, I'd never pay extra for preferred.

As a single parent traveling alone with my DS I absolutely think a preferred room location is worth it. It makes it much easier to bring food/drinks back to the room WITH DS, bags, stroller, and whatever else I may be bogged down with coming from and going to the parks. I also feel more comfortable being in the middle of everything since we are alone.

Other find they don't need to spend the extra money just to be closer. It's a personal preference really.
