The Good, The Bad, & the Nuts! ...ANYONE GOING MAY 8-15?

Omigosh....guess what I just found. :cool1::cool1: my ring:thumbsup2:cheer2: I have been looking in the road every time I go to the post office thinking it may have fallen off when I got out...no luck. So now I'm sitting here cleaning receipts and stuff out of my purse, I reached in the side pocket and bam...there it is. I know ive looked in my purse before, but I must have been doing that panicky-rushed kind of looking and missed it. Now that I have it back I'll have to get a picture of it....Danny leaves tomorrow for Vegas so once he's gone I'll have to see what he leaves behind for cameras.

Well, wasn't Santa good to you to let you ring in the New Year by finding something so special!!!! I'm so very excited for you!!:banana::banana: Now, you need to ask for 4 more!!

How wonderful that you found the ring again! What a nice bit of good news after the bad news your family had recently! :goodvibes

Mon - DH planning to go to AK early and spend time trying to get the perfect pictures on the safari and the walking trails. I will probably hit Epcot and try some of the Food & Wine stands.....well, the food stands anyway.

Don’t know if the pictures were perfect – but some were darn close – so “mission accomplished” for him….and I did hit up a few food stands so “mission accomplished” for me too!

That evening we plan to go back to the studios for the Osborne Lights. I don't know how smart that is since it's the first night they will be lit and I imagine it will be a zoo - but it's also extra magic hours that night so DH seems to think that will give us a better opportunity (more time) to see the lights. Since we are at Boardwalk we can take the walking path to get "home" so the crowds won't affect us as far as transportation

When I left you last DH was back in the room uploading his pictures, and I “walked” back from Epcot to take a break for awhile before heading out again that evening.

I showed him my newly purchased (and recently lost and more recently recovered) ring.

And after much drama – here it is!

After a brief rest in the room, probably did a little laundry and straightened up the kitchen a little we walked to the Hollywood Studios. If you are familiar with the lay-out of the Boardwalk Villas, our room was on the 2nd floor overlooking the quiet pool and the Community Hall. That was handy for Danny at night when he would go down to the hot tub because we were so close. However, with me in my scooter we had to go all the way back up the hallway to the elevators which are just off the lobby, so I could go down one flight and get outside then we had to walk all the way back around the side of the resort to get on the walking path to the Studios. Had I not been using a scooter we could have gone down a flight of steps near our room and right out and on to the path. My scooter definitely added some additional walking for Danny!

At the Studios we….uh….walked around and looked at stuff….:confused3 I don’t think we rode any rides because we were there so late and there were no fastpasses available. I think we went to PrimeTime to see if we could get in as a walk-in but the wait was going to be too long. I don’t know if we checked anywhere else, or considered any counter service places, but we wound up over at Sci Fi and were able to get in fairly quickly there. We sat there for a few minutes and Danny downloaded the Disney Mobile Magic to my phone. But while we sat there messing with it we discovered that it didn’t list Tower of Terror, Rock N Roller Coaster or Toy Story. Didn’t understand what good it was if it wasn’t showing the “good” stuff. We played around with the maps thinking if we got to where they were on the map they would pop in – we never did have any luck with that.

After just a few minutes of waiting they took us to sit in the back seat of a car on the back row. I ordered the Douple Dip appetizer as a meal – it’s a dish of chili and a dish of spinach avacado dip with a pile of tortilla chips. Danny had the Beef and Blue salad – which had a pretty good chunk of steak cut up on a salad. He doesn’t like Blue cheese dressing so switched it out for ranch – so it was actually Beef and Ranch instead of Beef and Blue. ;) We both also ordered Diet Cokes. She brought our drinks over and I took a drink (while Danny was still messing with my phone) and it just didn’t taste right. I asked Danny to try it and to try his and he agreed with me – it was too sweet. We are both actually diet Pepsi drinkers, so we know diet Coke will taste different than we are used to, plus fountain soda usually tastes a little different than bottled, but it was more than that. We thought maybe she brought regular instead of diet so we flagged her down and told her. She whisked them away and brought back 2 more – they didn’t taste any better. She said she filled them herself. She offered to go try a different drink station. We said if she didn’t mind we would appreciate it – this time it tasted better. Somebody must have hooked the wrong kind up to the other one, or something. We noticed later that that she only charged us for one drink instead of 2. We also have the Tables in Wonderland discount so our total cost for the meal was $31.14. I finished nearly all of my dip and chili, but only about half the chips – he cleaned his plate.

It was only 6:23 when we left and we went from there over to the Writers Stop. For such a little shop, we always manage to spend a lot of time in it. We both love books and they always seem to have some interesting ones in there…..plus they have yummy treats!! Yummy treats like giant cookies – we left with a chocolate chip cookie for him and a sugar cookie for me. I really wanted the carrot cake cookie….but recently I had been having some…ahem…issues  with cream cheese. I hope it was only a temporary thing, because I really like cream cheese, but I wasn’t going to tempt fate on vacation – so I went with the safer looking, and also yummy, sugar cookie. We bagged them up and put them in the basket of my scooter for later. Check out time was 6:44.

We were in the neighborhood, and the Osborne lights were getting ready to start. But it was the very first night, we didn’t know where to be or what was happening, and it was an absolute zoo so after attempting to go over there and wait, we decided that was too much trouble and got out of there. I don’t know what we did….probably walked around and looked at some more stuff. Or maybe it was the other way around…..maybe we went to wait for the lights after we ate, then went to the Writers Stop and by the time we were done the lights had started….. It could have happened that way…. I’m thinking that’s more likely.

We stood at the end of the street and he recorded the lights for awhile, a CM came over and got a handful of people doing some line dancing, I tried to stay out of the way of people who were looking up at the lights and not down at the lady in the scooter. Danny was no help blocking traffic because he was attached to the video camera. One guy in particular was doing that “walking backwards” form of adjusting his camera and about wound up as a passenger in my basket! We tried to carefully work our way down the street. And they were stunning! I wish I could have left the cart behind and walked through the streets instead of spending more time watching traffic than I was watching the lights. Danny walked up and down, and back and forth and all around filming different things from different angles – I was trying to follow him, but by the time I would catch up to him in one location he was backtracking to a different one….it was a joke trying to keep up with him, but it was so crowded I also didn’t want to lose sight of him either then spend the rest of the evening trying to find each other again. If you remember the old Family Circus cartoons - just picture any one of them where the kids were supposed to go from Point A to Point B and the route they actually took...:rotfl:

After several minutes of taking in the lights and the music we decided to try Toy Story. It was an Extra Magic Hour night and I think it was right around regular park closing time. I had read somewhere that towards closing time sometimes the wait times that are listed for some of the rides are actually longer than the wait really is….possibly to discourage people from getting in line so close to closing. Well, we had never done stand-by for Toy Story, so we had never seen Mr Potato Head, we didn’t know if we would be back over here early enough to get a fastpass any other day, and we had nothing better to do, so we got in line. I think the wait time said 80 or 90 minutes….and it was pretty accurate. So much for that theory :rolleyes1 Although, I guess it could be true and we were just there at the wrong time because of EMH :confused3 We watched Mr Potato Head, we watched the people in line around us, we watched our watches…..and eventually we got to our cart. I don’t remember the scores other than Danny beat me – but we won the same prize – so he didn’t beat me by much.

From there we worked our way towards “main Street” and I think we rode the Great Movie Ride. We considered going down to Tower of Terror, but after the long wait at Toy Story we really didn’t want to do another long wait at the Tower. Especially since there I can’t take my cart in with me. I usually park it and walk….but I also usually have fastpasses.

With very little accomplished….but the goals of eating and watching the lights accomplished, we headed out. On our way we stopped and he took the only pictures of the evening

IMG_0335.jpg

Three of them of the tree….and it’s “bald spot”. One section of lights near the top wasn’t lighting up. Since we were going for the main purpose of seeing the lights Danny hadn't brought any of the still cameras with him - just the movie camera. It does take still pictures, but he just doesn't think to use it as a still camera. I haven't seen the videos yet, so I don't know what else he filmed other than the lights. He may have gotten it out for some of Mr Potato Head, but I wouldn't swear to it.

We walked back to the Boardwalk and stopped downstairs at the gift shop and picked up a couple more bottles of diet coke and a package of bagels for the room. The time is now 9:46 and our first complete day has come to an end.

I am guessing that once back in the room, I did more laundry, got the coffee pot ready for the next morning, got hooked up and went to bed and read for awhile. He most likely went down to the hot tub for a little bit and piddled around on the computer before coming to bed.

The next day was scheduled to be an Epcot day.....

I talked to Shelly today - my daughter-in-law. All the siblings made it home except one. The oldest daughter lives in Texas, is somewhat mentally challenged (but able to live on her own) and just could not make it. They did not have an actual funeral service, the family just got together and reminisced. Shelly is going back home on Friday. That's actually why she called, we booked and paid for her flight up there and needed to set up her flight back home again. While talking to her I mentioned to her that I had found my ring yesterday. She started to say something, stopped, then started again with "this will sound corny, but I think my mom helped you find it for helping me get home this week".

For last minute flights, I was surprised at how cheap we were able to get her there. I booked her a flight from Virginia to Chicago on New Years Eve (booked on the 30th for the morning of the 31st) for just over $100 including all taxes and fees. Coming home I booked it today for Friday afternoon and it was about the same - just a couple dollars less. One was USAirways and the other was United Airlines. Both were OHare and Newport News/Williamsburg/Hampton airport, one was going through Philadelphia, the other going through Charlotte. I think if we had sent her through Norfolk, which is closer - but bigger and harder to get around in - it would have been about 50-60 more per flight.

Today is our 7 month mark for our August trip - in DVC rules it means I can book at any resort - not just a home resort. Soooo today I called and moved our Old Key West reservations over to Boardwalk. Right now I have us in a room with a Boardwalk view. Our first two visits were with Garden/Pool views and were fine...I wanted to get a "Standard" view because it would have been only 5 points more than our OKW reservations. Boardwalk , Garden, and Pool views are all considered "preferred" so the points are the same for all of them - I figured if I was going to spring for the additional points I would like to try the Boardwalk view itself. As for points it was 54 more for that room than it was for OKW - it's 49 points more than a standard view. That's a lot of points for a change of scenery! I am waitlisted for a Standard view - it was available for 6 of the 7 nights, but the night it was missing was in the middle of the week. We don't like moving (we've never done it other than when we have added a night on to the beginning or end of a trip) - once our luggage is there (if we fly) or unloaded (if we drive) we are unpacking and moving in...groceries are put away, closets are filled, my machine is set up and my supplies find a home. The last thing I want to do is load it all up and haul it somewhere else and do it again. We are still considering sending me down a couple days early - me flying out when they start driving down...but I haven't booked a room or looked at flights yet - it's still in the "considering" phase.

Just checked flights - they aren't booking yet for my dates. The latest they had was July 27...so my dates should be available in a couple weeks....

Initial sketchy plans.

Tues - Right now it's penciled in as another Epcot day. We have reservations for Biergarten that evening, so we will be there in the evening for sure.

The Eat to the Beat performers at Epcot are Jon Secada (Sun), Hanson (Mon-Tues), Rick Springfield (Wed Thurs) and Big Bad VooDoo Daddy (Fri - we'll be gone already). The only one I have a half an interest in is Rick Springfield, but I don't know if we will be over there either of those nights. It's not a priority.

Today started out with bagels and coffee in the room. Then it was off to Epcot which was just over the bridge and through the gate….love staying at the Boardwalk (or Beach Club) – I really hate the stress involved with loading the scooter on the bus so being at these resorts where I can just roll to two of the parks and monorail it over to a 3rd is wonderful. Danny and I speak two different languages - so while he is getting worked up and telling me how to load the cart, I get more flustered….his directions of “no, the other way” aren’t extremely helpful. So starting the day rolling in to a park is a good thing. :thumbsup2

According to our pictures, evidently we did a lot of going back and forth, which again, with the scooter, is now possible. Without it I had a strict rule of “no going backwards” if we went past something, too bad, we would keep moving forward – my goal on those last few “walking” trips were to take as few steps as possible to get to the next sitting location. :faint:

Based on our past trips, I would say that Danny went to Soarin’ and got Fast Passes while I went over to the Test Track/Mission Space are to wait for him. Along the way he saw

Our first attraction of the day was

DSC_0004.jpg

There is usually not much of a line on the Green side, so in we went….I think the two of us had to man the ship by ourselves. We had a few problems along the way, but made it out alive.

Then he went over and got some fastpasses for Test Track and we headed back across the park to do

On the way we saw

DSC_0009.jpg

We only stopped for a couple minutes to take a couple pictures – they were playing the same set and telling the same jokes I had seen the day before.

Once we fought the battle of the too small and inconvenient elevator and got to Soarin’ we were in line with a couple other wheelchairs and/or scooters so our spaces that we stand on in line were messed up. The couple behind us was freaking out and trying to get into a different line because they didn’t have an arrow to stand on. :sad2: When we went in usually there is a CM there to tell you where they want you to park. Since there were others ahead of us in line they must have been busy with them, so I just left it in one of the little yellow boxes painted on the floor. I left the key in it (some places you do, some you don’t) and got settled in to my hangglider. I noticed a CM get my cart and move it over by the exit door….spots that were filled by people on the previous flight when we entered the room.

I like Soarin', but I don’t understand the emotional responses some people have for it. :confused3 That could be because I really do not like rides where my feet are dangling. I will not ride a roller coaster that hangs from above unless it’s got a fully enclosed seating area. And while Soarin’ is not a roller coaster, I still have an uncontrollable nervous feeling in my stomach when we are lifted – especially if the glider starts to rock at all.

After leaving Soarin’ we decided to get some lunch. Danny headed over to the place there – Seasons?? I don’t think they were serving lunch yet, and Danny didn’t see anything that he was particularly interested in. I hadn’t gotten close enough to look yet because I had to park the scooter, take the key out, grab my cane and purse, get off the scooter and fold the seat down, open cane (it’s a collapsible one)…..by the time I got all that done (and that’s at every place I get off and park – then reverse it for taking off again – it’s a time consuming process:hourglass) he decided that he didn’t want to eat there. We head back and battle the elevator again…seriously, how much trouble would it be for them to install another elevator? With such a popular attraction downstairs having an elevator that holds two wheelchairs/scooters maximum – and only if one of them can maneuver to the far side of the elevator – it’s really a hassle. Fortunately on this visit we shared the elevator with a gal in a power wheelchair. Going down she was ahead of us in line and got on and whipped her chair around to the far side and all I had to do was roll straight in. Going back up she was behind us in line – we told her that since she was the expert to go ahead of us. It was much easier that way. Not like some of the other times…. :rolleyes1

Leaving the Land Danny took off at his typical brisk pace. Normally I can keep up, unless he does his bobbing and weaving through the crowds,,,,he thinks he’s “opening a hole” for me to get through – but really the “hole” he opens closes right behind him and I still have to fight the crowds. But another issue is sunglasses. :cool2: I hate looking in to the bright sun, so I have prescription sunglasses. The problem with that is that its awkward to try to take off my regular glasses and put on my sunglasses left handed while driving the cart with my right hand and trying to keep up with him weaving through a crowd. But I also know that as soon as I get outside going from the dark inside to the late morning bright sun outside will “blind” me. So I slow down and work my way over to the wall and when the crowds flow around me and I don’t think anybody will run me over, I stop and switch out glasses.....and lose Danny. :headache:

Eventually, outside we meet back up. He always realizes I’m missing at some point, stops turns around and waits

Since we have reservations for Biergarten that evening we didn’t want a big lunch – and there aren’t a lot of lunch choices at the front of the park, so we wound up at the Electric Umbrella. It wasn’t quite open yet. We went in and I got a table and he got in line. We figured since we would be one of the first customers that we should get our food fairly quickly. That was a wrong assumption. It seems that they must not start cooking the food until 11:00 either. He ordered the chicken Caesar salad and I got a meatball sub with fries and we both got diet cokes. My sandwich was very good, although I admit I didn’t eat all of the meatballs – I did finish off the sauce and cheese soaked roll that it came on. I think he ate the rest of my meatballs and helped with the fries. And the ice – I need to remember this restaurant for their ice if nothing else. I am one of those obnoxious people who chews their ice cubes. :rolleyes1 I prefer crushed ice (pebbly ice is what I call it), but at some of the restaurants at WDW they have ice that is about as big around as my little finger, is about an inch long, and is “soft” like crushed ice. I don’t know if it just has a lot of air in it – but it’s kind of opaque instead of clear like glass – that is good ice! :thumbsup2 (yes, I am nuts). If I find a restaurant with that ice – and a fill your own soda station – that restaurant gets high marks. So on our way out I refill my cup with a lot of that good ice and a little pop (just to give it some flavor;)) and off we go on our adventures.

We head over to use our fastpasses for

Good thing we had fastpasses or all that good ice of mine would have melted. :lmao:

Tuesday continued....

After a quick spin around the track we go to the front of the park – the very front – to visit our children

DSC_0024.jpg

Sean is on top next to the Aisian couple, Mark is next to the block of words, and Ryne is in the corner. We had these done several years ago. While Danny was trying to take those (they are on the bottom of the pillar so its hard to line up the camera) I noticed.

And

Stitch – looking very lonely. He saw me taking his picture and waved me over – but I didn’t want to go over. I wasn’t doing autographs…and I don’t do many character pics.

Those 3 pictures were the total number of pictures I took that day

Danny finished with the boys and looked to see what I was doing. I told him he should go get a picture of Stitch and show him some attention.

He went over and got these

Stitch appreciated the attention and posed for him.

DSC_0028.jpg

I appreciated the attention much less than Stitch did. But here’s me and my cool ride. Hopefully some day soon I will get a new kidney, will be able to stop pumping my tummy full of fluid, and won’t have to wear maternity clothes anymore. Luckily they make them that aren’t all cutesy now, so some of the ones I have just look like normal clothes.

After taking pics of Daisy, Stitch and me he went in search of us

DSC_0034.jpg

We are the couple in the middle. We had this done the year before we had the boys done. If I dig around far enough back I can figure out exactly when we did it. But it was probably the second year they were doing it, and it was after the bricks at Magic Kingdom were not available any more.

Some more obligatory shots

Now was time for one of our many visits to the Camera Center and the Art of Disney (is that the name of that shop?) At the Cemera Center Danny got a lens cleaner and a small camera bag. The camera bag he thought he would give to me to keep my sunglasses, and wallet in. He thought it would be stiffer than the little purse that I bought and would be easier to go through security with, and would stay open better for the glasses switch…the problem was – it was too small to hold my stuff. I could have told him that if he had asked, he didn’t:rolleyes1, but it did hold one of his cameras, so it wasn’t a total loss. I also loaded another $50 on to my gift card for my Food & Wine adventures.:thumbsup2 At the Art store we looked at all the pretty pictures, and expensive pretties that I would love to take homes with me, and, of course, looked at the collections of Vinylmations. It would be safe to assume if we were in a store that had Vinylmations that we looked at them and checked out which ones were in the “trade box”. This trip was very much about the Vinlymations for Danny.

The line for Spaceship Earth was small so we decided to do that while we were here.

And that pretty much wrapped up our time in Future World.

Stay tuned for our adventures around World Showcase…….

Tanya, I am behind on all of my subscribed threads (work has been nuts for two weeks now). I love all the photos; we don't do character autographs, but I will do pictures (lots of them). I like your "Future World" pics from Spaceship Earth.

I timed my DISTime perfect to catch a new update!! Love when that happens.

I really believe that one day you WILL get a new kidney Tanya, and will pray for one that is just perfect for you! Until then, I want to tell you that the top you are wearing is adorable!

You did some fun stuff in FW! I do get exhilirated while riding Soarin', but I can totally understand how some might find the "feeling" of dangling legs a new sensation. I guess my favorite part of that whole attraction is the soundtrack!

And for the record, I am soooooooo with you on the ice. Ice must be perfectly opaque and crunchable, but without the toothbreaking factor!

We do mostly "drive-by" pics of characters. :rotfl: Very rarely will we get in line to have pics taken with a character - unless the line is very short, it's a "special" character, or of course we are visiting "The Mouse".

There is enough about Soarin' that is good (the soundtrack, the scenery...) to overcome my initial nervousness. It's crazy because I totally know I am not going to fall crashing to my death if the glider sways slightly  but you can't tell the pit of my stomach that :sad2:

And for the record, I am soooooooo with you on the ice. Ice must be perfectly opaque and crunchable, but without the toothbreaking factor!

:thumbsup2 Glad I am in good company with the search for the "perfect" ice :upsidedow

wow a few questions and obesvations lets see if i reemember them all.

first, thanks for the heads up on marvs report, we know we are gonna see an update over there for a while. ( i think it was his report you said you had an update) :confused3 see i already forget things

second, i like the tronorail from the outside but hated riding it, u could not see anything from the windows in that thing.

and the face pics in epcot. is that closed now? they dont allow you to do that anymore do they? i wonder if they have something else planned to start since the bricks are full and i think that is too.

i want to do something there if theydo one, but want to wait till our next one is born to have a full family thing done

and lastly, they have a trading box for those mickey vinyl things? kinda like pin trading, put one of yours in and take one out?
:confused3

yep, it was on Marv's. Traffic has been pretty slow over here so I thought I would take advantage of your opening and plug my report. :rolleyes1

I don't remember if we rode the Tronorail or not this trip - but I know even the ones with the Mickey balloons plastered over the windows was hard to see out of too

Yeah - the Leave A Legacy thing is closed now. I don't think it went over very well - they have a lot more empty pillars and have plenty of space for more plaques - but it must have been more trouble than it was worth. :confused3 I don't know if they have anything else planned or not. We had finally decided to buy a brick on our next visit and they quit selling them. We got our picture done on year at Epcot. The next trip the boys wanted theirs done....we thought about doing one each year, but were afraid they would quit before we got them all done. You couldn't have more than 2 people in a picture so we couldn't do them all together, we finally just bit the bullet and did all 3 of them at once.

and lastly, they have a trading box for those mickey vinyl things? kinda like pin trading, put one of yours in and take one out?
:confused3

Yep - at most of the places that sell Vinylmations they have a couple boxes. One of them is clear and usually has 3 or 4 loose Mickey's in it that you can see. The other box is behind the counter and has 12 (24??) numbered boxes that you can't see. You can either pick a number from that box and get a "surprise" Vinylmation - could be from any series, or you can swap one of yours for one in the clear box. We have done it both ways. We had a duplicate Easter Bunny one that we brought back down with us, we did the "blind" swap on that one and wound up with a "chaser". The chaser is the one in the set that they don't show you a picture of on the side of the box. We also traded some that we got that were either duplicates, or just ones that we didn't like very much for some that we liked better that were in the clear boxes. We spent a lot of time looking at Vinylmations this trip :sad2:

What happens when a school bus backs in to a '97 Grand Am

0109011405a.jpg

Mark was parked in a school parking lot Saturday while competing in a Speech Meet. Just before the awards were announced, they asked for the owner of a tan Grand Am with license plate such and such to report to the parking lot. Mark wasn't sure if that was his plate number (its just a random number and has no significance to him), but he thought it might so he went out there. There he found a cop car parked behind his car, a school bus in front of it, a hole in his bumper where their tailpipe punched a hole in it, and a dent from their bumper. Fortunately the driver did stop and call the police and didn't do a hit and run.

Darn that hurts. Glad he wasn't in the car and all is okay. And good for the driver for sticking around.

Thanks for the "Mickey valentine".

Darn that hurts. Glad he wasn't in the car and all is okay. And good for the driver for sticking around.

He is not happy and wanted to stage a protest and refuse to drive "the brown bullet" until it was fixed. I supported his decision and said he was more than welcome to ride the bus until that time because he was not going to be driving one of my vehicles. :lmao: That ended that protest. :thumbsup2

Haven't had any luck with insurance yet. I called their school, on the accident report it didn't list the bus's insurance company - it just said "illinois school district agency". I called and spoke to the superintendent, who said she had faxed the info to her agent already. She also gave me the agent's number, so I called him this afternoon around 2, but never heard back from him. I'll wait until late morning tomorrow and try him again, if I don't get him or a call back I will be calling the superintendent again. :headache:

Thanks for the "Mickey valentine".

You're welcome

I know what you mean about Soarin'. It is a fun ride and has neat effects but I don't really get why it is SO loved. Everybody is different though, for instance, my mom LOVES Soarin'.

thanks for the info, i really hope they do something again, maybe another brick thing by animal kingdom or something.
:confused3

I'm sorry for all of the difficulty you have in getting around the parks. Too often those of us who don't have those difficulties only see it from our point of view, which is "those durn scooters are making it longer for my bus to pull out". So, thanks for reminding me. I sincerely hope you get a kidney someday and become mobile again.

Sorry about the car. Sounds like it will work out okay though since the driver stopped and provided insurance info.
