The Good, The Bad, & the Nuts! ...ANYONE GOING MAY 8-15?

Hey Tanya! Have a great trip!

We will be there May 9th - 14th but not in the parks. We are flying down the afternoon of the 9th and sleeping at Pop and then we are on a cruise on the Dream from the 10th through the 13th. Staying at CBR the night of the 13th and then flying out bright and early the 14th.

Tonya !!Dan and Cathleen will be there from May 10th - 15th !!! They will have a group of 8 Dev. Disabled with them so if you see them say Hi !! Dan is the Disser, Cathleen at least knows it exists !!:lmao:

Does Dan have a PTR going for this trip...or a schedule of some sort? We have no real plans....other than a late breakfast at Tusker House on Friday. I could be on the lookout for them!

Hi everybody!

Brief update....

Took trip with #2 son in May. Before I went I had sent a message to the owner('s wife) of a place I have temped at a few times over the past 4 years. I was asking her if someone there could write me a letter of reference, or if I could list them as a reference when I started job hunting. I haven't really worked since I had been doing dialysis, other than my time with them (those were 2 8 week stints of maternity leave and 2 other week long times when the family took a vacation). Instead of offering to write me a letter, she asked me to come in when I got back from Florida - that they were interested in hiring me themselves. :cool1: I got home on a Tuesday, sent to see her on Wednesday and started on Monday. This was a whole new position which involved them purchasing a new computer, a new phone added to the system, a whole desk full of "stuff" (adding machine, stapler, tape dispenser.....). So I am pretty confident that if they are investing that much into it, it is intended to be a permanent thing. So as bad as I was at keeping up with the boards before, now I am even worse. :confused3

I will try to pop in now and then and try to catch up (I read Glennbo's today)

But I am back to work at a place that I truly enjoy being at with people that are great to work for and with. It is a plumbing company. In the office is:
the owner. He is usually only actually in the office a total of a couple hours a day. He visits sites for submitting bids, checks the guys out in the field, and goes and gets his hands dirty when things are particulary busy.
his wife. She maybe comes in a portion of 3 days out of the week. She pays the bills, writes the paychecks, and visits.
the son-in-law. Although actually he is in the process of getting a divorce from the daughter. But it appears as though he will be keeping the family in the divorce. She was a mini-couger when they got married (she was in her 30's divorced with 3 small boys; he was finishing college) He adopted her boys, they had 2 girls together; then she found someone even younger and now he has custody of all 5 kids. The oldest boy is in college and the other 2 are a Jr and 8th grade. He dispatches the plumbers and keeps the ever changing schedule prioritized.
Then there is Amy. She is the office manager and has 2 small children (which is why I was there in the first place). I will be getting most of my work from her, but then she will take over some of Mike's. Usually there is plenty to go around.

In addition there are 3 licensed plumbers; 2 apprentice plumbers (although Mike & Amy are also going through their apprenticeship too); 1 shop boy and another guy that doesnt actually work for them, but who has been kept pretty busy doing digs the past couple months.

Small group, mostly family - and a muuuuuuuch better environment than I worked at from 1992 - 2003.

Take care and I will pop in and out when I can!!

Thanks!!

This really is a whole new experience. I worked at a place from 92-03 that I thought I liked. But in "Dante's Peak" Pierce Brosnan talks about frogs (stay with me here - I haven't gone off the deep end....yet) He said if you put frogs in a pot of boiling water they will jump right out. But if you put frogs in water and gradually turn up the heat, they will stay there until they are boiled to death. Let's just say, the water had been boiling around me for quite a few years and I hadn't been smart enough to get out.

Then I did the temp route. Worked at one place where nobody trusted anybody...for good reason, everybody was out to get everybody else. I was a little smarter that time! Then I went to another place where I decided I wasn't going to even pretend that anybody there was human, that it was strictly a job, I would show up, work, and go home, not try to get to know anybody. I did fine there. Didn't like it, but my expectations were low....and they met them. ;) My job there ended at Thanksgiving a few months after I started dialysis. Turned out to be yet another blessing in disguise. A couple weeks later I was sent to the plumbing place for Amy's first maternity leave. In 8 weeks, I felt closer to these people than I did to any of the other places I had worked at. They are literally family, and aren't out to get each other. I am so thankful to be there. And slowly but surely I am learning to speak the language. The plumbers get a kick out of it when they call in a list of parts that they need because I don't have a clue what they are asking for, so write down word for word what they say.

And Disney trips?? Well, they know my obsession and time off is not a problem. I won't get paid for it (well, not for awhile anyway, and then only so much of it) but if I don't mind not getting paid, they don't mind my taking off.

Sept 8-15th is already on their calendar for my next trip :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:

Is it strange that on 3 weeks we will be pulling into the Boardwalk and I haven't started packing yet?

Is it even stranger that I had a dream last night that we were unpacking down there and I realized I had left Rynes pins at home and I was trying to sneak around and buy some so no one would know I forgot them??
