The Good, The Bad, & the Nuts! ...ANYONE GOING MAY 8-15?

Nice pictures Tanya. Thanks for taking us along through the World Showcase through your pics.

I like that Alice was still chattering away even after she got through "Secret Gate".

Tanya I so agree with Glenn , those pix around the World are awesome !!:banana:

Wow, I had no idea Hanson was still around, reminds me of when I was a kid.

I "missed" the Hanson years. When they came along I was raising little kids - I was too old and they (my kids) were too young. What surprised me was how young the girls were that were waiting in line. They mostly looked younger than my kids (17, 19, 21) - I would have thought girls that age would be more into Jonas Bros than Hanson :confused3

my favorite pics of all the artsy ones has to be the shouting water fountain picture, i like how the water at the top looks, way to capture it.

:thumbsup2

That one was kinda neat wasn't it. He took 2 or 3 there - that was the best one and was what, I assume, he was trying for. He likes to play with the focus....

well of course that was the real alice, all of the characters are real.
:goodvibes

::yes::

She was funny - definitely one of our top character interactions. She chattered and twirled non-stop the whole length of the International Gateway walkway - I'm not sure when (if ) she took a breath.

Thank you and my husband thanks you (or he would if I told him I was posting his pictures here ;) )

Tanya, some really great updates and beautiful pictures! There are so many great ones, but the one that really jumped out at me was the one with the red flowers (azaleas maybe) out of focus in the foreground, with Spaceship Earth in the distance across the lagoon! :thumbsup2 I'm guessing it was taken from Germany since it is with the Kim Possible and train pictures, but those different painted "barber poles" beside the water make me think of something you would see in Italy instead!

It is great when you get to go to Disney often enough you have a great time just stopping to smell the roses! We got to do some of that on this trip and had a lot of fun! There are probably going to be some disappointed people with some parts of my TR! When I was putting notes together it was strange to find myself saying "I can't believe we were at Disney that length of time and we never did .................!"

Good catch! I usually try to post his pictures in order....that's mostly how I remember what order we did things :sad2: But the "flower" pictures were taken between Italy and Germany. But it is where we found a spot to land while we ate our fudge. With the food an wine stands set up, it was hard to find a spot that wasn't occupied. I stayed there while he took his pics and went looking for the fudge. Some of the other pics "appear" to be out of order because he was taking pictures across the lagoon, but with his zoom they sometimes look like he was there :confused3

I totally understand what you mean. I would talk (or text :sad2:) with the boys throughout this trip and they always seemed to be disappointed in how little we seemed to be doing. It didn't feel like we weren't doing anything - I mean, we were on the move most of the time, but we just didn't feel the need to try to do "everything"

Just looked at DVC online for info on the new Wild Africa tour that started, and thought I would check our August Reservations. It's silly - but I just like looking at it. :thumbsup2 But I noticed that it said we had a Standard view instead of a Boardwalk view. I had waitlisted for Standard because it used about 50 less points than the Boardwalk view! So this means I will feel less guilty if I wind up going down a couple days ahead of the rest of the family - I can get a studio for a couple days and still use less points than we would have if the waitlist had not come through! :cool1::cool1:

I am about 20 days or less from the 180 day mark - ADR time. Of course, nobody here has any suggestions :confused3 they will save those until the trip is half over and then ask why we aren't eating at "wherever". :rolleyes1 Since we have never been to Whispering Canyon Cafe, and since I have read about it on different TRs I thought I would ask for opinions.

I have picky eaters in my bunch. They are definitely in their comfort zone with burgers, fried chicken, meatloaf, and chicken strips. They will stray from that if it is not "too weird". :sad2: DH doesn't like spicy food (loves chili - won't eat tacos or most BBQ), DS#1 is most likely to branch out, DS#2 is least likely - would live on peanut butter sandwiches and chicken nuggets if allowed, DS#3 is somewhere in between. None of them are overly enthused by vegetables. Corn and potatoes are "approved".

So with their bland little taste buds in mind - does WCC sound like a potential winner for them? Is there any significant difference between lunch and dinner. More importantly, are the "antics" most likely to occur earlier or later in the day? They do enjoy the atmosphere at Prime Time, so, not having ever been to WCC, I am thinking if they can handle Prime Time they could handle WCC. :confused3

I'm trying to get them to try different places - drug them all over to Trails End last year. of course, the boys moaned and groaned about having to leave the parks and go "clear over there" - but I think it would be nice to take a break and check out a new resort.

I'm also curious about the Ranger and his tour. Is that something you have to make a reservation for or if you are there do you just ask if he is available? I think that would be neat, and I think DH may enoy it - don't know if the boys would or not, but if we scheduled it before eating the boys wouldn't have to come until or mealtime, or if we scheduled it afterwards, the boys could leave without seeing the tour.

I assume the easiest way to get there is a boat from Magic Kingdom

Tanya, it doesn't get much more "standard American Fare" than WCC. The skillet has chicken, ribs, potatoes, corn, baked beans, and cornbread. You can also get burgers and such if you don't want the skillet, which is a lot of food. In comparing notes with Dan (FauntleroyFan07) after we got back, we realized that the dinner version of the skillet includes what I just listed (the lunch skillet) plus beef brisket and sausages. (ie. Even more food!) If that doesn't make your crew's tastebuds happy, then I don't know where to direct you.

I'd say the antics can occur anytime, you just never know.

Yes, the best way to get there is by boat from MK.

I think you can reserve a tour with Ranger Joe, Cynthia (eandesmom) just reported on doing that, but I'm not sure if it's just for people staying at WL.

Tanya, I love your WS pictures! Really beautiful shots there.

WCC would be great for bland, non-adventurous eaters (you may have met a few around here in past Trip Reports... :rolleyes1). It's all-American bbq fare. And the atmosphere is exactly like 50's PT cafe. The servers have a lot of fun with you. I have not tried it for lunch but have had plenty of antics at dinner. The food is inconsistent, but overall I like it a lot and wouldn't hesitate to go back. Plus you get the Wilderness Lodge atmosphere, which is worth a few points.

I think I'm going to go ahead and book us there this year. Surely they can find something to eat - even if it's only yet another cheeseburger :confused3

Cool - I guess I'll just hope for the best.....and probably not tell them what to expect:rolleyes1

It was Cynthia's report that kinda sealed the deal for me on that. I remember reading yours and thinking it sounded interesting (with all those pictures of all the hidden things you took.....;)) Hearing yet another positive experience with Ranger Joe and the tour, especially when I am this close to being able to start actually making plans, is really pushing me in that direction. Adding a meal to the tour would really make it worth the trip out there. Of course, that is if non-WL guests can take the tour.

Tanya, I love your WS pictures! Really beautiful shots there.

:thanks:

My only hesitation is that it is being referred to as "BBQ". Please tell me the meats are not dripping in bbq sauces, or heavily seasoned. Two of my crew will go to Buffalo Wild Wings and order plain, boneless wings :sad2: One of them has even switched over to burgers instead of even that.

It sounds like I may book an early supper/late lunch - depending on what their hours are and hope for CMs that are having a good day. There is nothing more disappointing at PrimeTime than going in and feeling like you are just at any other restaurant.....especially when you can hear craziness going on in the next room. We had a waitress there one time that was so quiet and meek, that I wondered how she ever got placed at that restaurant.

I adored your trip around the world!! You guys got some amazing shots of some lovely scenery, and the Alice "walk" was hilarious! Such fun character interaction!

Biergarten is definitely NOT the place to go if you aren't super hungry. It's pretty heavy fare. but OH SO FUN!

Alice was fun....even moreso because she could have just as easily hustled offstage instead of playing and being silly.

I hope to still get to biergarten someday. I doubt I will ever get Danny to some of the "foreign" restaurants, but this is one that he seems open to.

Tanya, I'm all caught up. Yours is the second report I've caught up on tonight where it has been a walk around WS. I am SO in love with your hat in Germany. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

As for WCC, Mark and I hated it and won't go back. The service was awful (two hours and we never even ordered dessert; and this was besides the 25 minutes after our ADR time we were seated). We thought the food was awful and Mark got sick on either the chicken or ribs. I know Glen and Marv enjoy it, but we don't.

The hat was sought out. I told Danny there was the funniest hat in there somewhere. I wanted him to pt it on since he's usually the hat model....but he made me.

Uh oh.....a bad wcc followed by sickness. That's not good. Was your reservation at a particularly busy time or were ther any Other obvious reasons why you would have had such a long wait to be seated or to get through the meal?

Tanya, I really enjoyed your Epcot update, what a beautiful day! And your DH takes lots of great pictures. :goodvibes

Thanks for sharing your perspective on the ECV with us, I used to be rather impatient with ECVs, but have realized that they are a wonderful thing to allow people to enjoy life despite their mobility problems. I hope your health problems will improve soon and let you enjoy lots of visits to WDW without an ECV in the future!

I am sure WCC will work fine for your family. You don't have to order the skillet and I think there is a normal burger on the menu. If I remember correctly the bbq sauce was served seperately. The only thing which I did not like was the spices on the chicken, but that might have been just my personal taste. Lots of people seem to like it. :confused3

I honestly can't remember. I know they had a cup of bbq sauce on the side, but I'm drawing a blank as to whether there was any sauce already on the meat. If worse comes to worse, there are plenty of a la carte items on the menu that I'm sure they'll be happy with.

I am really mad that we did NOT buy that hat.

We had an ADR at 5:30 at night...so shortly after they opened. :confused3

They sat us out in "back" where there are like five tables; we asked to be seated inside (there were plenty of tables) and were told we had to sit where they sat us. Our server was horrible...slow as molasses. We saw/heard none of the shennanigans that go on the entire time we were there.

It was either the ribs or the chicken in the skillet that made Mark ill (it was the two things I didn't try because I was disgusted with the service and the taste of the rest of the food) so I assume that one of them wasn't cooked long enough.

I know lots of people love the place so if it is something you want to try you ought to do so.

That man does love his camera. I used to get upset that he spent so much time photographing our vacations instead of enjoying them, but have come to realize that he is enjoying them....by photographing them. Now that the boys go and do stuff on their own, he's not holding them up from having a good time, so I don't mind anymore.

Thanks - the ECVs are a blessing and a curse. I couldn't do Disney without them right now, but they can be a hassle when, in your head you feel fine and just want to go, but are limited by where and how you can make the ECV go. I try to not be one of "those" ECV drivers, but sometimes that backfires. :confused3

I sent emails to 3 out of 4 of my bunch and gave them the highlights (or what I thought would be highlights for them) of the menu. One said "Ok" (DH), One said "looks good, if nobody else wants to go, I will go with you" (DS#1), DS#2 doesn't do email and rarely has an opinion, DS#3 is very opinionated but rarely contributes ahead of time. I think I am going to book it - I have a majority at this point! :cutie:

We have gotten pretty good and watching other peoples plates as we are seated, so we should be able to work around the "covered in sauce" obstacle. Since I at least have them on board with the idea (for the most part), they should be able to find something that will satisfy their finicky tastes.

I am really mad that we did NOT buy that hat.
We haven't bought any since the kids were little - but that one was funny

I think I am going to book it and hope for the best. Should I ask for the main room at the time I make the reservations or just hope we get it when we get there? My Mark alsways claims to not like the "special" attention you get at PrimeTime, but I have heard him telling about it to his friends later. And he was mortified that we had said it was his birthday one time but couldn't stop grinning when they brought out a cupcake. I'm wondering if I should "torture" him with WCC on his birthday

Our next trip is scheduled for aug 6-13. We will be staying at boardwalk. The new development is that I will probably be going down a couple days early, arriving sometime on thurs the 4th. The even more newer development is that I may also be staying a couple days after they leave. The possible plan is they would drop me at the airport and head out from there, and then to pick me up there again on the way home. Since we usually take 2 days on the road I would either have to stay florida longer or have somebody else pick me up at the airport back here. I know which I choose.

So, since I may be there solo aug 4&5 and maybe again the 14&15 I thought I'd see if any of you all were going to be there at the same time.

Didn't want to multi quote on this so I will just comment here. Not sure where Kathy came up with us liking it since I haven't written that part of my TR yet??? :confused3 Anyway, we did enjoy it there. We were inside and had a good waitress who played. She also would tell us to do things to stir up the room because she knew we would. It wasn't as loud as I expected from some other reports I've seen! As for the food, without saying too much, I really didn't think any of it was all that spicy! I didn't try the chicken though. Just basic food IMO!
