The fine line between crazy and insane....kickin' asphalt on the way to Goofy '08

From a SLOW runner, to a slow-wannabe.....WELCOME!!!

I love the new philosophy and I know for a fact that you will do SO well, when you step back and enjoy the runs. I know that you will struggle with fighting back the competitive side of you, but I'll help you through!!

Come take a run with me...I'll show you what s-l-o-w is all about!! :thumbsup2

Love ya, girl. And I'm so so proud of ya!

Hi Amy,

I love your new philosophy! :thumbsup2 Your training sounds like it is gonna be great!:cheer2:

Scott explained what the Goofy is and ....:scared1: I so admire you both for doing this.:goodvibes

Hope you had a Happy Mother's Day!:flower3: Have a great week!:cool1:

Hey girl. Hope you had a wonderful day!:upsidedow

Welcome back Amy! I am glad to see you posting again!

Your outlook is great.....you will do a great job on the goofy. I too agree with Tracy about the goofy, I admire both you and Scott for doing it!

Have a great day :)

Hey Amy! I think you have a great philosphy for getting through your training for the Goofy. I think I need to take that approach myself.

Keep up the good work!

:goodvibes THANK YOU to Scotty, Kim, Laurie, Jamie and Tracy for stopping by my journal. I really appreciate the encouragement! You guys are all so inspiring too!!!

It's a nice busy week but it's mostly due to kids' activities so I'm enjoying it even though it's a little bit hectic. I give all you working people a lot of credit for keeping up with your workout routines! It's so much easier for me (usually) to work into my schedule since I'm a SAHM. But weeks like this when I'm up and out the door from morning thru evening...*phew*.....gives me new found respect for all of you!

Monday: Scheduled rest day (and much needed at that)

Tuesday: 3 Mile Run at a 10:13 pace and 60 minutes of Pilates circuit.

So off to a good start :thumbsup2 . Tomorrow I plan to do 60 min. of Mat Pilates and 30 min. on the Ski Machine.

Still keeping injuries at bay but my hips have been really sore lately. That is just one of those things that I think may plague me as long as I run. It doesn't interfere with me during the runs though so it really isn't too bad :).

I also have a 5K on tap for June 3rd. My DD9 wants to run either the mile or 5K...she hasn't decided yet. But she's become quite a runner and wants to start going to races with me and even may join a running group in the fall! She's been so busy with softball, playing on two teams, that I was surprised she'd want to add anything to her busy schedule..but she's become quite the little competitor LOL! :) I'm a very proud mommy  .

Hey Amy. Nice run today! Take care of those hips, girlie!

How awesome that your DD likes to run too. What a wonderful thing it would be to run races with your child! :thumbsup2

Keep up the awesome work, girl. So many of us are cheering you on! :cheer2:

That's great that your DD9 is running too!:goodvibes That is wonderful that you'll be running some races together.:goodvibes

Sounds like you are off to a great start with your training this week. :thumbsup2

Have a great Wednesday!:cool1:

 Hi!

I think it's really great that your DD is so enthused about running! How cool is it that there is a running club she can join in the fall? Did you happen to see the article in the latest Runner's World? It breaks down youth running into age groups and gives suggestions on what they are/aren't capable of and how to encourage them along. You might want to check it out ;)

Not to get too off topic here...but I've been meaning to ask you a question. In your avatar pic (which i LOVE by the way! Lookin' good out there) I noticed that you are running a step behind Carrot Top. Did you get to meet him that weekend? :rotfl2: (sorry to the actual person...i apologize to you for using your likeness for a cheap joke in Amy's journal, but you signed away the rights to your image from the race when you dropped off your entry form)

Good luck with the pilates and the ski machine today! Have a wonderful Wednesday :)

:lmao: Too funny Scott! Thanks for the laugh there!!!

Unfortunately.....things don't always go as planned. I did manage to get my 60 minutes of mat pilates in this morning. Then I was booked up most of the day. Finally got down to the old nordic track tonight......and wouldn't you know I got interrupted half way thru my workout :(. By the time I got back down there to finish all the data had wiped out and I just got frustrated and gave up. Just one of those nights I guess LOL. Soooo.....I got half the cardio in that I was scheduled to do. I really hate that :(....but at least I got a full pilates work out in today. I HAVE to get my workouts done in the mornings from here on out. Otherwise they are just too tricky to complete.

So from now on....set the alarm earlier and get that nordic track in before the kids get up for school. That way I can still get to pilates and have the afternoon for my other obligations.

I also plan to run in the morning...just doesn't have to be that early I guess. But still.....definitely try to get those workouts in as early as possible. The longer you wait the more chances there are for other things to interfere and take precedence.

:) Have a great night everyone!

Gotta agree there with you, girl. :thumbsup2 Getting that run done in the am is the best thing!! I know even on weekends if I wait until the afternoon, I just don't have that drive as much as the morning runs. (and I am the anti-morning person) You're a busy, busy woman and I know you'll figure it all out in order to get everything done.

Don't feel bad for what didn't happen today. You kick @$$ all the time, lady. You ROCK!!! :woohoo:

I don't know about Lost....BUT....

OH.......MY........GAWD!!!!!

AMERICAN IDOL...TOTAL SHOCKER!

:sad1: I actually teared up when it happened. I wanted a Melinda/Jordin showdown.

:sad1: I actually teared up when it happened. I wanted a Melinda/Jordin showdown.

You got your Melinda/Jordin showdown alright...and Jordin obviously smoked her :) Maybe she can get a job singing back up for Jordin on her first tour. :lmao:

(sorry, not a Melinda fan)

Hey guys.....my take on Melinda is that it was a blessing in disguise for her. Look at last year.....the two "losers" Daughtry and McPhee and particularly Daughtry are doing MUCH better than Taylor. :confused3 Having zero contractual obligations gives them so much more creative freedom when it comes to making an album.

Next week should be interesting....I'm guessing Jordin has this one locked up. She's a good kid....I'm just not sure she has that X-Factor or whatever they call it LOL.

OK....I guess I better get off my lazy bum and go for a run now before I have to head back over to the school. Wish me luck....

(saying my mantra)...zen running....zen running...zen running

I'll post again later :)

OH....and Scott....wow, you're in a mood today :stir:. Look at you stirring up trouble LOL!

So I have to say that although I would not buy an album from any of the AI finalists, and the shows this year were lame for a number of reasons (lack of talent, horrible song choices, clueless mentor stars)...there was only one person who I looked forward to performing each week....Blake. He put some great spins on classic songs (You Give Love A Bad Name was AWESOME!) and is a cool little entertainer. I think that Jordin has the better voice by far, but she's lacking in the originality department. Blake has an opportunity to set him self apart from everyone else. So...in a nutshell...(not Nutbush :lmao: )..I'm pulling for Blake!

Ok ok...off of my American Idol soapbox and on to your training...

I really admire you for pushing the workouts and runs to the morning. I know you aren't a morning person (neither am I), but I love that your dedication shows through. I feel you've come up with an outstanding plan...looking at your training with a "zen" mentality, and adjusting your workouts to coincide with your busy life (and quick pizza delivery dudes). I'm very happy for you

Good luck with the run this morning!!

Hi Guys

Just checking in to update on my training! Phew..what a busy week I've had. Just lots of volunteering and the kids' sports. But all in all I'm pretty happy with all that I've accomplished :). Just have to plan out that Brownie meeting for tomorrow night and I'll be all set LOL. Nothing like waiting until the last minute eh! :rolleyes1

So today was my scheduled 4 mile run. The weather was PERFECT :sunny: for running...cool and sunny! I have to say that it was a really positive run for me :goodvibes .....my "zen running" mantra must have worked!!!! Who would have guessed :confused3 . Anyway, I managed to do 4 miles in 38:42...a solid 9:40-ish pace (notice how I don't even remember the exact number....isn't that very zen of me ;) ). Afterwards I did my pilates arm ring and pilates ab series along with a nice long stretch. I was pretty consistent with my splits and my heart rate averaged out at 168. I'd love to get it down to 160 (that's my goal) but I'm pleased with that number as it's down 6 points from my Tuesday run. All in all....things went very well!!!

I also had a great moment tonight :). My older daughter said to me "Mommy, I've been thinking and I've made some decision.". Not sure where that was going I said "oh yeah, tell me what's you've decided". She says, "I decided that I want to play a different sport each season of the year, I really like being athletic and I love competition". OMG! I never thought I'd hear those words from THIS child. She has just blossomed into this competitive and scrappy little athlete over the course of the past year. I'm very proud because she's always struggled a bit with keeping up in sports and so forth. Something happened...not sure what...over the past year and she has suddenly found her niche. She plays on two softball teams, one is highly competitive, and she's finally caught up with the other girls and even (begin brag) got a triple with bases loaded along with some impressive plays in the outfield! The best part is she's the youngest on the team, so it's a HUGE confidence boost for her :) . So anyway...I'm just proud to see her work hard and accomplish goals at the age of 9. She's wanting to run with me and that is also very very rewarding. So....yeah I had a good run, but I'm simply ecstatic that I'm raising a child who wants to be physically active and competitive! That is truly a beautiful thing! (/brag).

Thanks for listening. It's just important to me to set a good example for my kids. In part, that is what my running was about...setting a HUGE goal and reaching it. I would love to think that maybe that played some small part in her confidence this year :goodvibes .

Have a great night!!!!

Man, Scott's stirring it up. :goodvibes LOVE IT!! And I know Scott's aware that there are some non-Blake fans out there *cough*me*cough* that are rooting like crazy for Jordin. I just love her voice. I do like that Blake brought originality into the competition, and I'm very proud of him for not beat boxing in every song this past week. But it gets to me for some reason. Sorry, Amy. I'm done with the hijack.

You totally ROCKED that run, my zen friend. :cloud9: AWESOME pace and I'm so glad you're feeling well with the runs.

And your daughter....you sure she's only 9? :confused3 My daughter is 8 and not even CLOSE to that type of athlete. She's just now blossoming into wanting to get "into" the action on the field. I think she honestly has an inner struggle going on of whether to be the prissy girly girl or the strong tough athlete (or a combination of both). :upsidedow Congrats, Amy. You're doing a GREAT job with your girls. They absolutely want to be like you and follow in your footsteps. You're teaching them so many life lessons.

Have a great day tomorrow, and wonderful weekend!

Good morning Amy!

You should print out that last post of yours and keep it. What a wonderful thing to see that you are confident, happy and feeling successful with your runs! A few months ago you felt that you may never have a good run again...it's so nice to see you out there doing your thing :) I can remember this time last year when you were run dancing on trails, evading bear and turkeys, totally content with your training...It's nice to see that side of you back :)

And your daughter...wow...it has to be a great feeling to reap the benefits of doing such a tremendous job raising both of them. You can look at what you wrote and tell that you are an incredible parent...an amazing mom. Your DD's are extremely lucky to have such a great role model to look up to. Great job Amy. :thumbsup2

I hope you have a wonderful day....good luck with the Pilates and XT :)

Hey amy--great job on your runs! Keep up the good work!

I really think it is awesome that your DD wants to try a different sport each season and be physically active! You do set a great example for her by getitng out there and exercising. As a physical education teacher, I wish more parents would do that and set a positive example for thier kids!!

Keep up the good work!!
