The fine line between crazy and insane....kickin' asphalt on the way to Goofy '08

As always...thanks to everyone for stopping by!!!! :goodvibes

Just a quick update on my training this week...

Monday: Approx. 7 Mile bike and 30 minute pilates

Tuesday: 60 Minute Pilates class; 4 Mile Easy Run (pace avg. near 10:30). It was HOT HOT HOT!!! :sunny: Of course...didn't help that I went out there at 1 pm to do it :rotfl: . But...need to get the run in and if that's the only time I can do it...so be it. The weather really wasn't that bad. It only affected me in the final mile...the first 3 were a nice pace under 10:15 each mile.

Wednesday: 60 Minute Pilates class. I would love to bike today..but the weather is very bad around here (storms, rain, etc). So it looks like I'll be doing a 30 minute Ski Machine at some point this afternoon. Just have to work it around my chiro appointment and kids' stuff.

Upcoming week looks like this...

Thurs: 4 mile tempo run; 30 minute pilates
Fri: 60 minute pilates; 10-12 mile bike (hopefully)
Sat: rest day??
Sun: 7 Mile Run

That's it from here :). Hope everyone has a great week!!!!

Great job Aimster :)

What a solid week so far for you...good job!! I'm with you on Tuesday's run, boy was it humid here! I was out there early in the morning and I returned home a sweaty, water craving mess. Gotta remember to take water on runs like that...I bet we are in for a lot of those over the course of the next two months as the summer heat kicks in.

So, forgot to ask you earlier.....when can I sign up for your Pilates class? Can you customize something for me? Personal training maybe? Do you make house calls? :confused3 :rolleyes1

Keep up the good work there Goofy...have a great day!

Hey girlie. :yay: I know I always say the same thing, but you totally ROCK!! :woohoo: Let me be the voice of reason, and remind you to make sure to have REST DAYS!! Even if it's only one a week, you need them and your body needs them. (even though I know you don't like them)

Take care lady and keep on inspiring us all.

You are doing a great job with your training, Amy!:cheer2: Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

Did you find out about the Pilates Certification yet?

Have a great day!

Hey Amy--wow, you are on the ball with your training! I wish I had your motivation lately. I hear you about the weather the past couple of days...tuesday was fairly hot and yesterday the rain threw everything off.

Keep up the good work, but make sure you get a rest day in there, it is important to let your body rest at least one day a week.

Keep up the good work!!

Hey guys...got a solid week of exercise in, so I'm just going to post the week in review. Bottom line is that I've felt pretty good. I think it may be time for new sneakers...I don't get the typical mileage out of them due to the structural problems with my legs/feet. So I'm feeling minor twinges, foot pain, etc which makes me think I'm better heading the injury off at the pass ;).

Mon: 7 Mile Bike w/hills; 30 Min. Pilates at home

Tues: 4 Mile Hill Run; 60 Min. Pilates Class

Wed: 4.1 Mile Ski Machine; 60 Min. Pilates Class

Thurs: 4 Mile Tempo Run w/ hills

Fri: 60 Min. Pilates Class

Sat: 9.25 Mile Bike w/ Hills; Pilates Abs and Arms 15 Min.

Sun: 7 Mile LSD Run w/ Hills; 30 Min Pilates at home

Weekly Totals:

Bike = 16.25 Miles
Run = 15 Miles
Ski Machine = 4.1 Miles
Pilates = 255 Minutes

GREAT week for me. Tomorrow is a rest day  . Thanks for reminding me to take breaks Laurie and Kim  . I usually do get one day off a week. And Pilates only days are basically rest for me at this point :). But really...thank you for worrying about me :goodvibes .

Otherwise...still going through the softball season here. ONE MORE WEEK and we're done. The girls are in the 5 State Softball Regional Tournament next weekend. There aren't any nationals or world series at the 10U level so....THANKFULLY we are just about done.

And yes :thumbsup2 I did pass my pilates certification and I'm starting to line up some jobs here starting in the fall. The one I'm *most* hopeful about will give me FULL use of the health club facility (read:treadmill) which will be a HUGE deal come fall/winter training :). So...keep your fingers crossed that I get that job...it looks good...but some extra PD wouldn't hurt ;).

Thanks guys. Have a great week :).

Super job with everything Amy!! Those are VERY STRONG workout totals for the week, you should definitely be happy with what you accomplished! I think you are gonna be totally ready for Goofy training and the half marathon this fall. I'm so happy that you are staying injury free as well!! *knocks on wood* ;)

You've done a killer job with the Pilates stuff and I can't wait to hear how the full time instructing comes along this fall. I can totally see you in that role...you have the personality, looks and dedication it takes to be 100% successful and I wish you the BEST of luck with it!!

Congrats to your DD on making it to State!! I know you all have paid your dues to get this far, but what an experience for her :) I hope this weekend goes well and she gets a lot out of it.

Awesome job Amy....awesome job.

Have a great day!

Hey Amy---WOW!! What an awesome week of training! I only wish I could get have those kinds of totals!! You are going to be soooooo... ready for the goofy in Jan.!!

Congrats!! on the Pilates training...that is great!!! Can't wait to hear where you will be teaching, maybe I can take a class sometime!!

That is so cool about your daughter's softball team, you must be so proud of her!!

Hope you have another awesome week of training!!!

BTW--are you doing the Westfield 5K on wednesday??

Thanks so much for all the awesome support here...it is really needed during these tough days of summer training. It's hard to get motivated when schedules are so tight and the weather is so darn hot. But everyone's awesome words of encouragement are really appreciated. So thanks :thumbsup2 .

I'll update my official week in training on Sunday. I've managed two decent runs....one 4 mile tempo at a nice 9:20ish pace and one 5 mile recovery run at a very comfy 11:30ish pace. I've biked once and hope to get out there early tomorrow before it heats up and before I head out to PA for softball regional championships. I only got one day of Pilates in :(. I'm hoping to squeeze that into my day tomorrow as well. Tonight I'm going to do a nice 45 minute session here at home to help stretch and work the core.

I'm having MAJOR running shoe issues :sad2: . My favorite shoes...the Asics Kayano XII were updated this year to the new XIII, making it tough to find the XIIs anywhere convenient. Unfortunately the new "improved" shoe KILLED my feet on Tuesday so I had to return them (read: blisters). I tried the Asics Gel Nimbus today...felt great in the store....but by the end of my 5 miler today knees and feet ached like crazy :(. So now I'm going to give my old standby shoes, the Brooks Adrenaline, a try for my LR this weekend. If they don't work I guess I'll be online ordering a bunch of Kayano XIIs to get me thru until Goofy at least, and in the meantime try to find a pair of shoes that don't kill me :(. Stay tuned for updates on my sneaker saga popcorn:: .

Wish me luck in trying to get my training in while I'm away this weekend. It's so very difficult when we're thrown off our schedule. I need to try to do Pilates on my own, a cardio in the fitness center and a 6 mile run...all while watching *hopefully* a bunch of softball games if our girls continue to advance.

Have a great weekend everyone...I'll update on Sunday or Monday.

Wow, Amy. So much going on. Congrats to your daughter for the awesome experience!! She should be SO proud (and you too, of course!)

Congrats to you, as well, for your Pilates certification! :cool1: You worked SO hard for that and I'm just so happy for you! :wizard: Pixie dust for the job you want at that gym. How awesome that you'd have free access. :thumbsup2

Good luck with the sneaker hunt! I say you go online and get a few pairs while you can, if they are the ones that work for you. You don't wanna mess with your "healthiness" right now, you know?

Have a GREAT weekend in PA!

Hi Amy

First of all....Good Luck!! to your daughter and her team this weekend!! So cool to be involved in a big time championship like that :) You guys must be very proud of her! Hopefully they'll bring home the regional crown, but if they don't...it's a HUGE accomplishment to even be there so enjoy the weekend :)

Wonder why they mess around with the shoes so much?? You'd think they'd leave a popular shoe like the Kayano alone...it totally sucks to have to try and find a replacement shoe, especially when you don't really know how the shoe will perform until you wear them out a couple times. Just keep them clean so you can return them if needed :) I'll be sure to keep an eye out around here for the XII's and let you know if I see any :)

Great job on the runs this week, and kudos to you for trying to fit the training in amidst all of the activity this weekend. Good luck with everything :)

Have a great time and I look forward to hearing how it went on Sun/Mon!

Just thinking about you & hope the girls are winning!!!!

Hello everyone. Just checking....as I'm getting ready to check out of our hotel here in Wilkes-Barre PA. The girls lost yesterday :(, it was heartbreaking. My daughter had the best 3 games of her life and made an outstanding play along with hitting a double. What a great experience...but she's going to miss being with these girls I think. It's become such a big part of her life over the past 6 months.

As for me...I did get both a 6 mile run and a 30 minute elliptical in while I was here. So I'm very proud of myself for doing that and it's good practice for when I'm away in a few weeks. We will be going to WDW and doing the 4 day cruise so I'll be super challenged trying to keep all that XT, ab work, pilates, etc going while I'm away. Going to need to dig deep and be super disciplined for that. But I still have a few weeks to worry about that...here are my totals for the week:

Mon: Rest day
Tues: 4 Mile Tempo Run; Pilates Class
Wed: 7.25 Mile Bike Ride
Thurs: 5 Mile Easy Run; Pilates at Home
Fri: 7.25 Mile Bike Ride, Pilates Class
Sat: 30 Minute Elliptical
Sun: 6 Mile Treadmill Run; Arms/Abs Pilates

Totals for the week:

Run: 15 Miles
Bike: 14.5 Miles
Elliptical: 30 Minutes
Pilates: 180 Minutes

Haven't figured out my July totals yet but I'll post them later if I can figure them out :).

Hi Amy

So sorry to hear that they lost, but what a tremendous accomplishment for the group. And how clutch is she? Wow!! To have her best games in the Regionals..that's huge. She's showing that same resolve and game time ability as her mom :)

Way to go on getting those workouts in while you were away. I know how hard that can be (wait...I actually don't know how hard that can be...could someone invite me along on a vacation??) and you did a great job of staying dedicated to your training.

Have a safe trip home and have a great day :)

Congratulations go out to your DD! I know the tournament didn't end like they would have like it to, but it sounds like she did a great job. :goodvibes

Congratulations to you on your Pilates Certification! It sounds like you have some great opportunities on the horizon with that.:goodvibes

Great job getting your training in this weekend while you were away.... Keep up the good work and you'll do just fine at WDW and on your cruise!:thumbsup2

Have a great week!

JULY TRAINING TOTALS

Runs: 65 Miles :cool1:

Bike: 62 Miles

XT Time Total (Bike, Pilates, Ski Machine): 19 hrs, 14 min
Run Time Total: 11 hrs, 35 min
Total time exercised July: 30 hrs, 49 min :thumbsup2

---------------------------------------------------------------

In comparison to this time last year I'd say I ran, easily, 20+ more miles. I am certain that I did WAY more XT. I am very proud of this considering that I was away from home approximately 10 days this month and spent nearly every weekend at some sort of softball tournament, aside from the two weekends that I was away. It is such a challenge to train during the summer months, between the weather, kids being home, and time away. August will prove to be even more daunting, but I am committed to continue the path that I am on. I know that overall I have a healthier approach to marathon training. My number one goal is to stay injury free, my next goal is to get all my runs in the books and my final goal is to get faster. In that order. Priorities ;).

With that said I have not run yet today. I have a "twinge" in my right leg which reminds me a bit of what happened when I got injured. So instead of pushing myself I think I'll go out and do a bike ride today instead, plus a nice gentle pilates session here at home. I'm hoping to get my 4 mile run in tomorow instead :).

So that brings me to my goals for August:

*64 miles running

*20 hours cross training (pilates, elliptical/ski machine, cycling)

*80 oz. of water per day

This will be a HUGE challenge considering I will be away on a disney cruise/wdw 10 day vacation. I'm not complaining...but wow it's going to be really really difficult. I'm setting my goals high but as long as I'm not injured I really believe that I can do it! Goofy training starts the day we get back so remaining true to the training is HUGE ;).

Thanks for checking in :). Have a great day :sunny:

My number one goal is to stay injury free, my next goal is to get all my runs in the books and my final goal is to get faster. In that order. Priorities ;).

I love reading this and think you need to make sure you remember this all thru the training :) It's a great outlook that should get you to BOTH starting lines in January :)

Anyway...GREAT JOB in July!! Those numbers are so impressive!! I really hope that this twinge goes away and is not an indicator of anything more serious. Just remember this mantra:

My number one goal is to stay injury free, my next goal is to get all my runs in the books and my final goal is to get faster. In that order. Priorities ;).

:thumbsup2

Great job and keep up the great work!!! I'll try to not be jealous of the cruise OR the time in WDW....:rolleyes1

Have a great day!

Hey girl. Super impressive numbers for July!! And even better job listening to your body and holding off on the run. I know it's hard, but you are doing the right thing for your body, and I am so proud of you! :goodvibes

Congrats to your DD. What an awesome experience for her at such a young age!

Have a wonderful time on your vacation! (I'm completely jealous :) )I hope you'll share some stories and pics when you get back!

Ran: 16 Miles

--------------------------

Like Scott, I have been having MAJOR sneaker issues. I am also trying the Brooks Adrenaline which is the best alternative I have found to my beloved Kayano XIIs. Unfortunately, they aren't perfect. They were the 4th pair of shoes I tried and finally could manage with minimal pain of one type or another. I'm so upset that Asics changed the shoe soooo drastically :(. I'll reiterate what Scott said, if you find a pair of shoes that you love..buy a bunch of them. I learned my lesson :sad2: .

As for training...I've been feeling pretty good. I have some minor aches and pains. I've been struggling with the idea that I'm not putting in enough miles. But I have to remember that my plan was to build up a very solid base SLOWLY and prepare my body for the rigors of training. I'm also hoping that XT and pilates will help me to recover from LRs quicker and help prevent injury. I've learned to stop worrying about pace...now I have to stop worrying too much about miles. Before long I'll be posting bigger numbers....I just have to have to have faith *cue the George Michael song* that the base I've developed over the past 4 months is sufficient for the upcoming months of training.

Thanks for stopping by to read my ramblings. This upcoming week will be a challenge as I have a Pilates conference to attend in NYC for 3 days. I'll be doing LOTS of pilates classes over the course of those days :). Hopefully I can fit all my runs in as well!!!

Have a GREAT time at your conference, Amy! What a wonderful location! :thumbsup2
