This is so stupid.
So here is something more stupid for you.

VERTICAL suggests a line or direction rising straight upward toward a zenith <the side of the cliff is almost vertical>.

PERPENDICULAR may stress the straightness of a line making a right angle with any other line, not necessarily a horizontal one <the parallel bars are perpendicular to the support posts>.

PLUMB stresses an exact verticality determined (as with a plumb line) by earth's gravity <make sure that the wall is plumb>.

Just finished watching the show.

A few things:

Yes, I agree, mom definately needs a new hairdo!!

The kids seemed normal to me. Smiley, happy, children. They are learning alot by helping build the house. They also seem very well behaved, not running amuck causing chaos.

The mom seems very nice, softspoken, but not strange.

The girls wearing the long dresses is a little strange though. Let them wear some pants!

The house was beautiful.

Yes, lots of product placement!!

The kids are very very cute. That last baby was beautiful!

I hear lots of comments on here about them being 'cultlike' but I didn't hear anything on this show to back that up. :confused3 They didn't talk about strict rules, anything 'innapropriate', and I didn't hear them say one thing about God.
(The dad also said "We have land IF they choose to settle down here someday")

Just because someone chooses to live their life differently then you, doesn't make them strange, cultlike, abused, servants/slaves, weird, socially inept, and all the other comments that were made on here.

Is this going to be a regular weekly show, or just the one from tonight?

ITA. With a family of that size they need schedules and structure. How could they survive without it. It would be a zoo :confused3 .

Exactly... and isn't that what she was referring to :confused3

Nope, because there was no guarantee that the base was horizontal. She was really refering to vertical. The level proves that the wall is pointing toward the zenith, not that it is perpendicular to the floor. A level proves that the line is 90 degrees to a true horizontal line. Now if she had to levels, one on the horizontal and one on the vertical and both were level, then they are perpendicular to each other and have an 90 degree angle. Had she got out a protractor and put it on the floor and adjusted the wall to be perpendicular to the floor, that would not be a guarantee the stud was vertical.

I think some people watched this show a lot more closely then I :rotfl:

It's also possible that we missed part of an earlier or later conversation about perpendicular and parallel. It could have been that they were discussing this in class and she just used that as a reference or practical example.
Also I'm pretty sure the base of the wall was horizontal. Obviously SHE would know that being there and looking at it. Terms used in construction are sometimes a little different then math class.
I'm not sure way I'm even responding to this point... I must be feeling a little

Call me weird, but I actually prefer canned green beans to fresh ones! :confused3

We do eat a lot of fresh corn and fruit when it's in season, but otherwise it's canned all the way for us!

I don't know how I would do without my canned tomatoes. And hey..I like frozen burritos too! :teeth:

Jumping in this thread late but wanted to add to this quote....actually canned tomatoes are healthier for you, something about the cooking process. I too, like canned green beans better then fresh and we also *gasp* eat canned veges and frozen foods. We eat many casseroles, sometimes tater tot. We have fresh fruit available to our kids but it's not at every meal.

Although I can't imagine having that many children, I did envy their laundry room and it's been my dream for years and years to have a family closet right in the laundry room! The organization of this family is amazing.

I was the general contractor and architect on my home. One tries to make the base horizontal, but that is not always the case. That is why levels are used so often. DH and I were very maticulous with the level and our sheetrocker told us we had the squarest house he had ever worked on.

The groceries- I thought it was about $370- didn't he say 10 carts, about $37 each? My dh was talking, too  , but I remember wondering where the heck they shop and how could I fill a cart for $37?

Chobie, I will clarify for you why people keep using the term "abusive". Many people, myself included, consider using your children as slaves, withholding affection, not providing adequate nutrition, etc. to be abusive behaviors. Since these are all things the Duggars are being accused of here, IMO people are accusing them of being abusive.

What is tater tot casserole? Is it a regional specialty?

I don't know if you meant that to be funny, but I will tell you, I just spit diet Coke onto my keyboard :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Folks, at the very least, TLC has brought me such entertaining television. Toddlers laying gas lines, lessons on perpendicular, sliding chutes that lead right to the laundry room for girls, 18 people living in a huge 7000 sq. ft. house, but only 3 bedrooms, ropes hanging beside top bunks, contractors having to work with children around them, dad making comments about "number 17" upon viewing his new romantic pad (I actually said "eeww" thinking about those two getting busy) and my very favorite quote EVER----DRUMROLL PLEASE........."I try to buy as many frozen burritos as possible" :rotfl:

Thank you TLC and thank you Duggars :thumbsup2

Entertaining television indeed :woohoo:

So, you making an inference on top of an inference to come up with people are making accusations about abuse?

Most people are just commenting on what the Duggar's chose to show us. If you think those things are abusive then you are the one accusing them.

Most people have said they think the chores are excessive, the parents are never shown being affectionate and the foods they chose to show on tv were lacking in nutritional benefits. If you think that equates to abuse then that is your opinion and not the opinions of others.

I'm glad that I provided some amusement, but my question was serious. I know what tater tots are, but I have never heard of tater tot casserole.

I don't see any signs of abuse going on in this family. I disagree with their lifestyle choices but there is no abuse as far as I can see and the family should be allowed to live as they please. However, if they're going to expose their lives on TV then they'll have to expect comment both good and bad.

Forgive me, obviously I am the ONLY one here making inferences.
